Staying at The Sutton House, I had passed by The Ballyhoo a few times and I knew it was just a matter of time before I decided to go check it out on a whim. This corner spot is neatly tucked away with a few outdoor seating spots, but the magic in itself is inside. The mix of vintage and old glam showcases the hybrid aesthetic. Perfectly described, The Ballyhoo definitely lives up to the over-the-top decor from their food offerings and styling. I managed to find myself arriving within happy hour and was super please I was able to bring my laptop out and get some work done without it causing anyone a fuss. The server I had was super friendly and she had all the tables she was handling in good spirit. After opting for a local draft beer and some bites, I kept over hearing how delicious the mozz sticks were. Now IDK how one levels up mozzarella sticks, but these truly were some of the best I've ever had. The dipping sauce was super spicy but bearable for anyone's heat preference and the breading and cheese inside had such a burst of flavor you wanted to simply inhale them. What had me in awe though was the cheese pull game. No need to fear about them being overdone not cooked enough, these babies were cooked to perfection with the cheese literally oozing out of each bite. I saw a few plates being served around and think this spot is definitely worth exploring. read more

The wings are sooo good. Small kick, small size, big flavor. Served with a Parmesan dip my husband enjoyed. I liked them plain. The chicken sandwich was about 6" high! Loaded with good looking stuff. Lively ambiance, mood lighting, and billiards available to play. Anna was personable and provided great service. Express Train was AMAZING -- imagine an espresso martini made love with a sweet cinnamon tincture. Perhaps I'm biased, but it's the most enjoyable (and sweetest) espresso martini I've had. Plenty of beers on tap and a variety of unique cocktails. Will be back! read more

the cutest bar loved the pink lighting inside and all the decor. kinda smelled a little like BO but thats not unusual for a bar/pub. i got a cosmo which was super yummy and my bf got a whisky highball and enjoyed it as well. i also got their miso caramel sticky toffee pudding which was soooo good. wish we tried their other food it looked great like their pizza. read more

After a whole day of walking and observing at the Stanley Park and Vancouver Aquarium, a little pick me up and a bite was so in need. We passed the Ballyhoo and decided to give them a try. We were happy with our choice. Drinks were well made and tasty. Chicken wing was standard, on the smaller side, nothing special. Service was prompt and to the point. Since we were there off the pick hour, dinning room was not the busy. There was lots of dark wood that gives warmth and coziness. All and all this place was worth the visit. read more

We weren't planning on going here but saw the chill vibe from the street and decided to give it a try. Food came out fast and was decent but the fries were overcooked and tasted bland. Vintage wallpaper and pinkish lighting added to the retro decor of the bar. Our server was pretty lazy and slow. Acted like she had something better to do on a Saturday night. This is pretty typical in the younger areas of Vancouver where workers are usually college students and have no idea what's going on. read more

That kinda vibe. The Personal meets the Professional Vibe....they have a baby...and wuala this place is born on the corner of Burrard & Smithe. Loved the personalized, super chill, friendly service and the space was mood lit with a view directly onto a busy Friday evening stunningly beautiful Autumn night....(see pic.) The Pepperoni pizza was surprisingly tasty. Super Fresh and cooked perfectly. The Hot Wings....oh ....the Hot Wings....they were hot (in temperature and spicing) and super juicy & chubby....what do I mean by chubby?....meat on on the bone! :)......let's just say....I was talking about them wings 5 days later. The Margaritas were really very good. It tasted like Margaritas you make for yourself at home. Nothing fancy. Just a well-handled, hearty, bold drink served proper. Interesting visit. This was our first night dinner while visiting Vancouver and it was an excellent choice. We were seated immediately though it was a Friday evening around 7pm. Disappointingly they were out of the first drink I ordered, but the replacement Paloma was excellent. They were very welcoming to kids - my daughter ordered the prawn tacos and ate EVERY.LAST.BIT. The next table had a young kid as well, so we didn't feel out of place. I had a great short rib sandwich that was excellent the next day as leftovers. It's a small, cute, quirky place downtown. This is a nice pub with good drinks. I had the Jameson mule, which was refreshing. For meat eaters they have a better selection of food. I'd suggest maybe getting a few more veggie options as they are only really had 3 things to chose from. I had the avocado tofu bowl which is just a salad bowl, it was ok. My friend had beef dips which looked a lot better. They have an excellent fries. Service was decent. The pub has that nice cozy feeling to it. Perfect for pre-movie drinks. read more

I was never greeted at the front door but saw that the guests that came in after me were (Caucasians) and they weren't busy at all. Stumbled across this bar (public house) and was happily surprised, mostly due to the yummy cocktails and decently priced happy hour! Sad that the Irish bar before them closed (when did that happen?!?) but happy with this replacement. I'm a big cocktail fan and loved the taste of the Margarita and Negroni, delicious! My friend had a gift card for the Donnelly group and Ballyhoo was just across the street from where we were staying so we decided to pop in! It was a Sunday morning and we were the first ones there. The inside of the restaurant is super cute with an 80s vibe. They had their ballyhoo breakfast on special for $10 which the 2 guys ordered and my friend and I got the breakfast sandwich. The ballyhoo breakfast came out with big portions and looked delicious. The breakfast sandwich had fennel sausage which was so giant!! I didn't expect it to be so big but it was definitely worth the price. Potatoes were delicious and I love how they had a small arugula salad on the side for something refreshing and crisp to have with your breakfast. Would go back for sure!! read more

Not worth the stop!!! Salad had so much salt in it that it wasn't a salad. Might as well just served me the shaker and called it a salad. The burger smell was not appetizing at all. One would think it was cooked on a dirty grill. Serving food on wood makes you think your artisanal but if the food taste like shit then it just means you can't afford dishes.
