The stations always smells of urine and the elevators are outdated. While I am sure they pass inspection yearly, they could still use an upgrade. For one they are way too small. When my son was stroller age, I could barely fit his stroller in the elevator. The wheels were barely able to fit through the elevator doors. Transportation itself is ok as long as the trains are not late or stuck on the track. Perhaps this was the motivation to replace the older the trains for newer ones. While I have seen the implementation of newer trains, all trains have not been replaced. I rode two older trains today that reeked of urine and were a little dirty. I am happy to see that they upgrading the trains however. I hope they keep that same energy and give the metro rail stations a makeover.

Previously I'd go to the Okeechobee station…read morebut switched to the Palmetto station because of a scary incident I experienced and an acquaintance that was almost beat to death at Okeechobee station (no clue where the security guards were, probably sleeping as usual). Palmetto has an open parking lot which makes it easier to see what's going around. The security guards are attentive and they have one typically driving around the parking lot with a golf cart. If you need assistance or have questions for the most part they attempt to help you. The bathroom at this station needs so serious remodeling....I hate going in there because no matter how much they try to clean it it doesn't look like it (oh and don't expect paper towels to dry your hands because it seems that's non-existing in this place). Would love it if the metro left on scheduled time but a lot of times that doesn't happen thanks to every other metro being out of service (probably because they're so old). I do enjoy not having to deal with traffic so this is the best way to head to Downtown and nearby areas. Compared to other stations in the north this is probably one of the safest ones. Most people that ride from this station are headed to work, courts, or hospitals.

The Metrorail comes in here but over the last thirty years as the City of Miami has evolved so has their central station. Years ago it was Government Center and I would connect to the metro mover. Now as Downtown has changed this truly is the main station. I come into here from Miami Airport to get to Downtown. Also it backs up into Brightline which is around the corner literally steps away. Lastly all the City buses come through here around the building there is a place a block up for the buses that go 595, in front of the building is buses going every ten minutes or so to the Golden Glades than a few steps from that at the side entrance to Metrorail is the 95 express buses. This place is literally a pu pu platter for all your transportation needs in and out of the City of Miami. I highly recommend it as parking is getting increasingly harder to find as well as expensive. You can get monthly passes which make it even more affordable if you come here daily as I do. Also across the way is a brand new Einstein's for a quick morning bite. It is very well lite in the area so don't let the name Overtown fool you it seems very safe. So far so good.

Issues / technical difficulties forcing single tracks with massive delays and inconveniences on a far too frequent basis. Third world country train service; Miami deserves much better. The escalators and elevators at various train stations often do not work either. Do not count on Metrorail to be operable and have a backup plan (Uber) at all times. I would give Metrorail zero stars if that were an option.

But it is very similar to what other cities call Subway. I guess since Miami can not run much underground construction, the MetroRail is all above ground. The one way ticket is $2.25, but you can get a full day pass for $5.65, which allows for unlimited transfers between metrorail and buses for one full day...if you get a $2.25 ticket, you will have to pay another $2.25 when you transfer. We loved how clean the trains were, the AC was working very well when we got on. We were even a bit cold inside the train. The signage on approaching stations is very good and the maps and routes printed on the inside of the trains are very useful. The Metrorail offers one easy ride to get you where you need to go. Be from Downtown Miami and Brickell to Coconut Grove and South Miami as well as a quick trip to the airport. There are two distinct rail lines that depart from the Dadeland South station on US1. The Orange line ends at Miami International Airport and back. The Green line runs further up north with connections to the Tri-rail and Virgin MiamiCentral. There are stops along each route at many of Miami's top attractions such as Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Brickell, the Lyric Theater, Hialeah and more. Metrorail opened in 1984 and it is Florida's only rapid transit metro system. It is composed of two lines of 23 stations on 24.4 miles of track.
