I've been working at a friend's farm over in Bull Valley a lot, and they've been placating (read: bribing) me with occassional treats from this place, even though they themselves are nutritionally and philosophically opposed to such stuff. I guess I'm a bad influence... I've found that I'm growing to like the place; it is always reliably clean, though the staff can be a little on the surly, uncommunicative side most of the time. But hey -- its an effing gas station, not a fine dining restaurant. Sometimes grumpy can be charming, if it's done right. No, this is not "Ed Debevics charming," but what do you want for $2.22? I've given up on the whole ice tea thing; I'm much happier for having just let the whole thing go. I stick to coffee and icees, as needed, and things go along fine. They really have an exceptional coffee and fixin's set up. Viva le roller dog!

Now, before I write this I have to say first that I LOVE the Thorton's in Round Lake Beach. The…read morepeople there are great and the service is excellent. So, I guess I expected the same treatment at the McHenry store where I stopped in specifically for an ice tea. I mean--I had my friend drive there on the way to somewhere else so I could get one. Love their ice tea. Really, really love it. Tall, icy, refreshing and full of lemon--shway! I Get it from the RLB location any time night or day. So, I was a bit surprised when I got to the Mchenry location and found the ice tea machine and the lemon container both dry as a bone. When I asked the gentleman who worked there if I could get some he waved his hand and said: "No--if it's not there then it's gone. And we're not going to make any more tonight because nobody wants it." Which confused me because I was standing there telling him I wanted it. It was...I believe the technical phrase is, "Uber sucky service." I also watched him throw a bit of a hissy fit to his co worker about whether or not the pop machines were clean and how someone else--who wasn't present at the moment-- would just, "Have to deal with it..." Maybe he was having a bad night. That's understandable. It happens. But I still won't be going back.. The experience sucked monkey privates.

Hit or miss, most likely miss. I tried to get help with the people here but they despise the…read morehomeless people and barely tolerate the presence of anyone in need. They do the bare minimum to avoid being kind to human beings. Amy the Manager is decent and kind but the minute she leaves her employees act like they own the house. And when they do that an entire team suffers. As does the world. Nobody deserves judgment on any level and the lady who just did it to me for the last time ought to really try to evaluate gratitude. I'm homeless, she's not, and I didn't choose to be on this path for as long as I have been on it. She needs to stop being negative. I can try to plan on spending time and energy elsewhere. She should get therapy very soon, and realize that she is privy to a discrimination lawsuit.

This gas station is a chain and can absolutely afford to keep someone that valuable! Its 2022 an you get what you pay for. This lady was a dedicated hard worker that any business would value and want to keep, One valuable person it takes to keep and value too keep a business running smoothly is all it takes. I have one respect for a gas station that is constantly low on staff and poor management. This is the reason why they choose to underpay a valuable staff member that would clearly make things run smoothly because of not wanting to pay what the person is worth. Greed never succeeds. Promts to Murphys Johnsburg for continuing to let a great employee go and wondering why staff continues to leave! Go Amy I'm glad you found better you deserve it!
