Not only was the dining room clean and well run, but also my bagel was delicious! I had the tomato avocado bagel, but I chose to have it without bacon. I don't know about you guys but when I ask for scrambled egg, well done, with bacon on a bagel, I expect to get a scrambled egg, not a fried egg. I even said it a second time because she told the cook "bacon and egg" and I said scrambled. When I returned it, instantly, she said "but that's how we make our eggs" I said well that's something you should tell people when they specifically ask for scrambled and not fried. After being a loyal customer for many years and after dining with my Registered Service Dog for many years I was thrown out of the Brueggers on One Whitney Ave in New Haven Connecticut on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The explanation given to me was 'no dogs allowed' . I told them I was contacting the authorities which I have done. The employees treated me in a hostile and threatening manner. My dog has been a Registered Service Dog since 2020 and I have never had an incident before. I will never ever patronize this establishment again and I hope they get sued for violating Federal Law. The service is always excellent here. The staff is nice, their bagels are always hot and fresh and their selections of juice and soda is always stocked. The quick breakfast game on Sundays in New Haven could use some competition. After striking out an unnamed, hyped-up restaurant and other standard breakfast option not open on Sundays, my friends and I ended up at Bruegger's. The line here further indicates that Sunday options could be expanded. But I digress. Bruegger's knows how to do a quick, greasy breakfast. While they're not my favorite bagels in CT, they are tolerable, and they have some new flavors, like the hash brown bagel. (Clever!) Talk about quality breakfast! I was looking for a quick breakfast at a bagel shop and came across this cute place. I ordered the "Farmhouse" breakfast sandwich. Two fresh eggs with peppered bacon, ham, Cheddar cheese, and cream cheese on the most delicious cheesy hashbrown bagel. All of the ingredients are top quality and very fresh. I seldom leave comments for any restaurant. Never bothered. I still decide to spend 30min from my busy morning schedule and leave one comment. One attendant from this place is -- Wow -- legendary. I have never been treated and talked to in this manner as a customer. The female attendant rolled her eyes and yelled at me, assuming that I don't understand English judging my Asian face after a couple of confusing conversations. WOW. What an attitude! WOW. I'm a Yale student. I have stayed in New Haven for 6 years and frequented almost all restaurants in the local area. This is the worse experience so far. Part of my visit to Yale, like, three weeks ago, included a trip to brueggers bagels. Brueggers is kind of the first food place you hit when you're walking from the metro north station over to yale. The people working here are all pretty friendly. I got two bagels: one was just a regular cinnemon raisin with cream cheese, and the second one was one of their jalapeno waffles with two eggs and cheese. I thought the cinnemon bagel was pretty straightforward, just a normal bagel. The jalapeno waffle was good, but surprisingly oily. I'm not sure if this is a natural feature of the bagel, or if the people preparing it hear just combined it with a lot of other greasy things. Either way, while it tasted good, the aforementioned feature could be better. I could totally come back here again though. read more

The reviews on this site are pretty poor, and I can shed some light on why: CHRISTMAS EVE DAY: Went to Bruegger's in New Haven this morning. I had such a craving for really good bagels. I checked Google website, and it showed they are open until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve. I tried calling the local number listed by Google, and it goes to a larger, national number and general voice mailbox with a pre-recorded message...so I was unable to verify. So, I drove down there. It's about 6-7 miles from my home. I get in the door, and it's confusing. I asked someone behind the counter where I could place my order. The response is "we are out of bagels." I said, "seriously, a bagel shop out of bagels," at 11 in the morning? There was a bakers rack that I could see with dozens of bagels, and I asked about them, and the worker said, "they are frozen." I asked her if I could buy them frozen and bake them at home, and she WALKED AWAY. This has to be the rudest, most nonsensical place I've ever been to. A bagel place without bagels, although they actually had dozens on a bakers rack uncooked. So many businesses are put out of business by their employees. Love that they're open so early; a lot of breakfast/bakery places here don't open for quite a while! Plenty of seating and no line when I came in around 7 am on a Sunday. tl;dr Do not accept Apple Pay and rude worker. First of all, they do not accept Apple Pay despite their Yelp page saying they do. Or maybe they do accept Apple Pay but the bitter old woman at the register isn't competent enough to know how to use it. After I was told they don't accept Apple Pay, I had to ask a customer to buy my food and I'd Venmo him back. While I tried to avoid taking food I didn't pay for, the same lady at the register kept mouthing at me, asking me questions and telling me to take a survey. I ultimately figure out how to pay for my food, and left the store. I left without a bag and returned to get one. Upon which the lousy cashier had the audacity to mouth "I offered you one, but you didn't listen." I'm sorry, but I was trying to prevent performing theft due to you or your stores inability to provide accurate information regarding Apple Pay. I really do not like this place. Let me start off by saying about 2 yrs ago, I refused to go back after a so called "manager" berated a young employee (who clearly this was her first ever job) by yelling at her while in front of me. It totally turned me off. Prior to this encounter, I saw this same said manager who was just generally rude to customers. What a bummer. I stayed away until my visit today. Remind you, I work within walking distance. I asked for a pastrami sandwich and got only 2 slices of pastrami (see picture). This sandwich is $6.99!!!! I didn't even taste the pastrami on the sandwich. What a freaking let down. I understand this is not a 5 star NY Pastrami deli, but they can at least for 7 bucks give you a decent portion. The back line looks kinda dingy, they could use a nice facelift on those floors (maybe blast the grout lines w/ a powerwasher?) Meh.. The only saving grace is the really nice lady named Mary that works at the front cashing people out. I have seen on some occasions people talking to her as if they are regulars, and they know exactly what they order. She is super friendly and spared this review being a 1 star. Sigh, Ben L. gives more 1 star reviews than he does any other kind, and I have to say, this one is unfair. Bruegger's isn't a special spot, but it doesn't try to be, and it's good for what it is. To my knowledge, there's nowhere else in town where you can even get bagels that were made on the premises. When you walk into Bruegger's, you can see the whole bagel-making apparatus clear as day, and the bagels you get are relatively fresh. I've been to Bruegger's several times over the last few years, and my bagel addict boyfriend is at least a twice a week regular. There's a nice variety of bagels, all of which are fairly good, with nice crusts and chewy insides. You can also get bagel sandwiches, and my usual order is the smoked salmon sandwich on a plain toasted bagel. This comes with a nice portion of lox with plain cream cheese, red onion, sliced tomato, and capers. Lox and bagel is a pretty unassailable combination, and this sandwich is no exception. I do taste red onion all day when I eat this, but such is the nature of red onion. I've also strayed and tried the Western bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, green peppers, roasted red peppers, red onions, cheddar cheese and chipotle sauce. This is tasty, too, and a bit more decadent. In addition to bagel-related goods, you can also get soups and salads, making this place a very decent choice for a casual lunch. You order at a counter and pay at a register, and service is generally friendly and efficient. There's plenty of space to sit, as well as free wireless. People are always hanging around with their laptops and they seem to be welcome. All in all, Bruegger's may not be a place to go out of your way for, but it's certainly good enough. It's probably more of a 3 than a 4, but to prevent the injustice of Bruegger's having a flat 2 star rating, I'm bumping it up a notch. read more

Our teens participated in an educational event at nearby Yale University, so hubby and I stopped here twice during the day. Our morning visit was terrific. The service was great- happy employees, pleasant small talk, and fast service. The bagels were perfectly delicious and there was plenty of seating, even on a busy Saturday morning. Our evening visit was around 4 pm and was just as pleasant. The staff was still super friendly and we were not rushed along even though they close at 5 pm. The service was awesome and the food was tasty (great bagel sandwiches!) and made to order. There are dozens of different bagel selections and it was interesting to see the bagels being made on site. SUCH a disappointment. I had heard a lot of positive things about the Bruegger's chain in general but I was SO not impressed here. The service was excruciatingly slow. I would hate coming here during the week and needing to be on some sort of schedule. It didn't help that I was stuck behind some indecisive hot mess hung over cougar type who not only took for freakin ever to figure out what she wanted, she also changed her mind five times while ordering. If you don't know what you want, gtfo the way and figure it out. That's not their fault though. The pumpernickel bagel was pretty good although I don't think they toasted it enough. More places need pumpernickel bagels. They had a myriad of options for cream cheese, I got smoked salmon. Now I realize the two bagel places I normally frequent actually have chunks of salmon in their cream cheese and I have forever been spoiled by Ami's in Waterbury, but this cream cheese was not very salmon-y. Once upon a time Dunkin Donuts had salmon cream cheese and it was better than this, which was a vaguely fishy flavor and that's about it. You East Costers need to Yelp more. This is located on a prime street next to the Yale campus and no Yelp review yet? They make their own bagels here. The asagio cheese with lox & cream cheese was alright. From the set up and price I was expecting a more gourmet bagel. I had gone to this place every day for lunch for years. After moving away for a few years, I recently came back. I went back there one day a few weeks ago and bought three bagels. When I opened the bag, they were all flat and misshapen. I figured it was near the end of the day and chalked it up to that. Today, I walked 2 miles in the humid heat to get bagels at 11am on a Saturday morning. I spent $15 to buy a dozen + 3 plain bagels. When I get home, I see that a full half dozen were the same flat, misshapen hockey pucks. The worker picked those deliberately to get rid of them and ruin my order even though there were three baskets full of plain bagels. Any self-respecting bagel shop or even half-decent person would not include those in an order, never mind sticking them in an order of a dozen so the person wouldn't notice they'd basically been robbed until they got home. I hope saving $1 in ingredients was worth losing a customer of 10 years. I am furious and absolutely disgusted and will NEVER go back there. read more

After a long drive, we found a parking garage on Grove Street and had about 45 minutes to grab lunch before a scheduled college tour. This place was just down the block from the garage and no one in our party objected, so in we went. Ordering here is confused. They ask you some questions in order to build your sandwich, but then after you sit down they tend to think of more questions they should have asked. Some of our party had gone back to the restroom, so it was a chore to get everyone's input. Then they ran out of bread. Admittedly, it would probably have been even more of an embarrassment if they'd run out of bagels, but still - no bread? My daughter was surprised by her bagel-based sandwich, but didn't complain. Reviews were mixed, but we wanted a quick New England bagel and maybe a salad to go before catching a train, so we gave it a try. Overall, the food was okay. Bagels were on par with what I can get in the mid-Atlantic and did not at all live up to the New England-level quality I've had at other places. They were small and dense. I got a lox and bagel, and the lox was fresh but since the bagel was small, the onions were overpowering and the cream cheese/tomato/lox/capers/onions squeezed and fell out of the bagel with one bite. Their drink menu included chai tea lattes, but when I ordered it they said they were out. My sister ordered a moca latte and when asked if whole milk was okay, and she requested skim or 2%, they said whole was all they had. *EDITED: Bruegger's chain contacted me after reading my review.
