I came in to Alec's today looking for a new pair of brooks. When I walked in, I was greeted by several staff who seemed to love their jobs. When I was ready to start trying on shoes, I was assisted by Kaitlyn. (sorry if I'm spelling your name wrong!) Kaitlyn was extremely knowledgeable about every shoe on the market. She was able to go into detail when answering all of my questions. She was also extremely patient and kind. I knew what I was looking for and ended up going back over to the clearance section because the shoe I wanted had sold out and I did not want to order anything. I ended up walking back over to Kaitlyn because she knew what I was looking for. Kaitlyn was so incredibly kind and patient that I did not feel rushed or pressured. She had the best attitude and the best costumer service I've ever seen. I would rather spend more money and shop at this store, than order anything online or go to any other store because the customer service is phenomenal. As a longtime customer of Alec's Shoes in Nashua, the experience I had today was incredibly disappointing. Over the years, I've spent thousands of dollars there and referred numerous family members and friends because I believed they stood behind the products they sold. Unfortunately, that trust is gone. I purchased a pair of Clarks on May 9th specifically for an upcoming vacation. After wearing them ONCE to dinner, I realized they were too snug and needed a wider size. I returned to the store June 9th with the original box and receipt, fully intending to exchange them for the exact same shoe in a wider width. The only issue? The soles showed the slightest amount of wear from being worn once. Despite the fact that I was requesting an exchange--not a refund--and despite what I believed was compliance with their stated return policy, I was told the shoes were no longer in "new condition" and could not be exchanged. How exactly are customers supposed to determine whether a shoe is truly comfortable and fits properly without wearing it beyond a few steps in a store? Shoes often feel different after an actual outing. Refusing to exchange a pair that was worn once for a few hours is an unreasonable policy, especially for a retailer that charges premium prices. I have never minded paying more for quality footwear and good customer service, but this experience demonstrated a complete lack of flexibility and customer appreciation. They clearly don't value their customers and don't care about anything other than making that initial sale. There are plenty of other shoe retailers offering the same quality products with much more customer-friendly return and exchange policies. After years of loyalty and thousands of dollars spent, I can no longer recommend Alec's Shoes and would caution others to carefully consider their return policy before making a purchase. I love Alec's shoe store. I started going about 11 years ago. To the store on Main Street. I still go to the new store. I originally brought my grandsons for their shoes. But after that I started getting my sneakers there. And now the majority of our family and a few friends go there too. It's great! Tim's of choices. Excellent customer service. I don't understand why anyone would want to leave a bad review for Alec's shoes. It's my first choice for a shoe store. I was a little worried after seeing a couple of low scoring reviews today looking in Apple Maps for the closing time, but went with my father anyway and things were just like always. Great selection very friendly, helpful patient service, they had what we were looking for in my dad's size. He walked around a little and good to go. I wanted to get my dad, the new sketchers Slip-ins, since he's 99 and move slowly. Call said they sound like hotcakes but we found what we needed. I may go back soon and get myself a pair. Customer service is exceptional. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the product they're selling . They make certain the shoes actually fit you properly. They have every kind of size and width you can imagine . Not only are the shoes well fit. They are incredibly comfortable and stylish. The staff know all about the shoe brands and the shoes come from all over the world. It's an amazing experience ! Needless to say, between the two of us we spent quite a bit of money. But ,worth every penny. If I go back to Nashua, I will bring an extra suitcase just to bring more shoes home.:) However, you can always have them shipped to you. They do have an amazing website. BULLIED BY AN EMPLOYEE. So I'm visiting from another state. My cousin takes me into Alec's shoe store. I'm planning on purchasing three pairs of shoes. Two Dansko's, 1 in black, 1 in brown and a pair of Haflinger slippers in blue. A tall, thin, elderly associate by the name of Brian asks what we're looking for. I tell him. He doesn't have my size. I try a different shoe, he has my size in a different color. This goes on for about six more pairs. I realize I'm not getting all of my shoes here. I take a picture of something else I like, thinking I'll buy it elsewhere. I look up a pair of dansko's I used to own in my gallery to show my cousin, when Brian comes back with yet more bad news about another shoe they don't have, and asks me, "Are you going to buy shoes here or are you a window shopper?" Taken aback, I said, "Excuse me?" My cousin trys explaining that I'm from out of state, this is my opportunity to buy the shoes, and I was merely showing them a picture of some old shoes. Brian angrily starts picking up all the shoes strewn on the floor, (including the one pair they did have in my size) I took those and said "I want these." Brian then proceeded to get about 5 to 6 inches from my cousins face to tell her he did not appreciate me taking pictures of shoes in front of him, it was rude. Thinking my cousin was behind me, I walked up to the counter to make my purchase. I also asked the check out girl for the manager. Another gentleman interjected and said "Here comes one". I turned around looked up at Brian and asked "YOU'RE a manager?" He smuggly said, "Yep" and walked away. I asked the check out girl for a higher ranking manager. My cousin came up to me in tears, humiliated and shaken and informed me that Brian got in her face and forcefully told her that we should have explained our situation to him ahead of time. (As if that is required) Another tall gentleman, younger, dark hair with a beard showed up. I started explaining what happened. He was starting to defend the other manager. (As the owner of two multi-million dollar construction companies in California and Arizona, I would never allow ANY of my employees to treat a customer with such rudeness , disrespect and humiliation, EVER! Bullying is a No, No! Especially from adults!) I told the second manager, "I don't care what the excuse is." He put his hand up to his chest and said, "If you're not going to respect me as a human then we have nothing more to discuss". As he walked away I asked the check out girl for someone with some since, the owner maybe? She said to try calling Diane, another manager. As we pulled out of the parking lot I could see a group of people talking in a circle inside the store. I eventually called Diane and she defended both managers by saying they have been working from 6 to 7 and they're tired. She asked me what I wanted and I told her she needed to know that she had a manager bullying customers. She said, "OK" and hung up. Well Diane , I'm sure they get lunch and breaks. If not, you're breaking a labor law. My company's run from 7 to 7, 7 days a week. My employees put in as many hours as they want. Usually 60 per week. They're tired and still would not be allowed to treat ANY of my customers the way you and your managers treated me and my family. To the owner of Alec's shoe store, I challenge you to check your store cameras for October 14th around 5:40pm and see the way your manager, Brian, treated not only a customer but a woman. When you buy any foot wear, ALWAYS take the box the new ones came in. They don't tell you that if you don't return them in the new box, that they won't take them back or return any money. I fought with them. I lost about 30 bucks for a empty box I did not have. Plus they DONT tell you if you don't have the box, you can't get your money back. This place is nothing but a SCAM. I've done imports and expirts for 25 years, they buy these sneakers and shoes for dirt money, really cheap, the resale is incredible. I have gone on a popular website and bought my sneakers, if I don't like them I can send them back, and try another pair. No fancy sales men with only interested in commission. I spent around 150 dollars on a pair of Hoka sneakers for my son. After four months, the material of the front right side of the right shoe separated from the sole - about 4 inches. The man at the front looked at the shoe, flipped it over and immediately said, "these shoes look worn". He then went to see the manager. The same clerk came back and said they could do nothing because the shoes looked worn. Duh - a teenage boy wore the shoes for 4 months so they did not look new. However, Hoka's are expensive because they are supposed to be excellent quality shoes. Obviously not. Alec's should have stood up for the customer. The shoes were only 4 months old! They have the relationship with the manufacturer. Instead, the clerk handed me the Hoka phone number. Alec's did nothing, even though the shoe was obviously defective. They did not want to be bothered. So, they lost a long-time customer who had shopped there for over 15 years for 4 people. So short-sited. Buyer beware, IMHO, this store does not take care of its customers if the purchase is defective and/or the shoe is worn for a few months. Very disappointed. My son has cerebral palsy and wears low rise braces called SMOs. Due to the braces, we were having no luck finding a shoe that would fit him properly. A friend at work recommended I tried Alec's. There was an impressive variety of shoes that worked for my son, and the salesman was very familiar with the types of shoes that work well with children who wear braces. Most importantly, my son was treated just like any other kid or customer despite his complex medical needs.The entire staff was very helpful and handed his special needs with professionalism and sincerity. Went to Alecs to purchase some orthopedic work shoes. Always went to this store at its old location in South Nashua and never had an issue. Went with a list of several different shoes branda and styles from my podiatrist to try. Was actively looking at the shoes for a solid 15 minutes while sales people were ignoring me and talking to one another. I approached an older gentlemen with my shoe list and was asking if he could show me a few things on the list. He informed me he had no clue about the shoes even though they are a popular brand they carry and passed me off to another female sales person. I do not know her name as she had no name tag and did not have the courtesy to introduce herself. I asked her to measure my feet and she told me I was a 9 1/2. I have always been a size 8. I voiced my concern about that and was simply assured we would find the right fitting shoes. This sales woman was extremely rude and got aggitated anytime I asked her a question. When I asked her to bring out smaller shoe sizes as my feet were falling out of the 9 1/2s she would march off, come back about 10 minutes later, toss the boxes on the floor and rip off the shoes I was currently wearing very angrily. Eventually we came to a pair that seemed to have all of the qualifications and specifics I needed. (I am a chef.) Sales woman was still insistent on a size much too big. After awhile I agreed to get a slightly bigger size 9 with the smallest width they had as I have very Narrow feet. Without any words she grabbed the shoes. Threw them on the counter and began ringing me out. At the end of the transaction she simply walked away without saying anything such as "thank you" or have a " good night.' This alone left me with a very poor experience. While I was leaving I looked at there posted return policy which states you can return in "new condition" shoes within 15 days of purchase with reciept and all tags. 3 dollar restocking fee would be charged. Ita important to note absolutely NOTHING was stated about a manufacturer defect with shoes being thw only qualification for returns. I brought the shoes home and wore them only in the house a few times to break them in. The shoes caused me extreme foot pain which only adds to the foot issues I already have. I called and asked to speak to the manager whose name is Dan. I explained the situation and that I had only worn the shoes in my home not outside to get messy. He asked me to bring them in with my receipt and he would assist me. I did just that. Uppn trying the shoes in front of him he acknowledged and verbally agrees that they were too big and didnt seem like a good fit. He ended up finding me another pair that fit much better. However he refused to exchange the shoes stating that their policy "only allows exchanges due to manufacturing defects." Absolutely 100% not stated in their policy at all. I asked if he would make an exception as the shoea were in near perfect condition and I have been a customer off and on since my youth. He refused stating again that "we only take back shoes with a manufacturer defect." Which again is not stated. I am not made od money and simply could not afford to purchase another 100+ dollar pair of shoes. So because I paid for the incorrect fitting ones I left the store with them even though I can not use them. Manager was rude, unapologetic about his employees wrong doings and even tried to blame me for their poor service. I will NEVER return to this store again. read more

This has been my go-to shoe store since I was a child. I remember when they were on West Pearl before they moved to the old Miller's building. I took my own children here for all of their shoes, from their first shoes to adult shoes. I give that background to explain that I don't make this review without regret but the service and pricing at Alec's has made it so that I won't return. I've been dissatisfied with the service I've received the last several times I've been in but I know that the last few years have been rough on everyone and I've been willing to make excuses, given my lengthy, happy history. The final straw was a recent trip to buy my mom a pair of shoes for her birthday. I had an idea of what she wanted and I picked out a pair and requested them in her size. When I got to the cashier I saw the sign explaining the new return policy. I explained that the shoes I picked out were a gift and may need to be returned if I chose a style she didn't like or if they didn't fit right. I asked if they would be subject to these new return fees and I was told that they would "if a salesperson needs to wait on her again". I told the cashier that I was confused by the "again" since no one waited on me this time, they just grabbed the shoes from out back. I was told that they would have no way of knowing that when she comes back so she'd be charged. I completely understand that there are people who take advantage of return policies but I have a problem paying a fee (the amount doesn't matter) when it's a gift. They have a computer system that tracks purchases based on your phone number. That system could be used to track repeat return offenders rather than passing fees on to every customer. read more

So husband bought 4 pair of Chippewa Made in USA Work Boots with Shearling shaft on 9/27/19. About 5 weeks before Corona lockdown 3/22/19 my husband started to wear the boots. 2 weeks into wearing part of the suede/shearling upper pulled away from the leather it was stitched to. He brought it to a cobbler in Boston and picked up around 3/18 right before Boston construction shut due to Corona. He started wearing again when Corona shutdown lifted on 5/18/2020. He installs acoustical ceilings. After 2 weeks a huge area of the suede pulled away from the leather portion of the shaft. You can see the teeth like shape of the suede that pulled away. Went to Alec's shoes they said over 60 days take up with manufacturer and did nothing. Chippewa said to send the boots back at our expense as they need to thoroughly inspect the boot. I sent them pictures. They say need to send back and will not commit to any refund even after seeing pictures. I suggested having Alec's evaluate. Nope. My husband has exclusively bought Chippewa since he was 18 yrs old. He is now 51 and says he will never buy them again. Alec's shoe's, meh, ok I guess. I don't get why Alec Shoes won't talk to their Chippewa Rep about the defect. The boot retailed at $399. We got them for $100 each as they were last season Alec's said. I would expect to get more than 6 weeks of wear from them. Lucky us (sarcasm) we have 3 more pairs sitting in the closet! Since my husband and I both have difficult to fit feet, we have purchased many, many pairs of shoes from Alec's. Both at their old location and their new location. Last Friday afternoon I asked about a line of SAS ladies shoes. The salesman informed that line was not carried. Next I asked about a line I know they carry but I wanted it in a particular color. I was informed that, that particular color wasn't carried. Then the salesman walked away from me. He didn't offer to inquire if they order that color for me, which has happened before, he just walked away. He was done with me. I am not going to say that I will not shop at Alec's in the future but I hope that management will train their sales force better. Before last week I would have given the store 5 stars. read more

The first thing you need to know about shopping at Alec's Shoes is that if you're expecting some outrageous bargains you are probably not going to find them here. Sure, there's clearance, and the entire second floor is dedicated to discount shoes (and other goods like purses and bags), but the real pull is the variety and customer service. My mother has a whole host of unpleasant foot troubles from finicky arches to Morton's Neuroma. She can only wear shoes with a toe box that's 3.5"+ wide, a heel that's approximately 1.25" tall... etc, etc, etc. It makes shoe shopping very frustrating and difficult, and it usually winds up unsuccessful. We do spend a little bit more here, but it's always worth it because the service is exemplary, and we actually FIND what we are looking for. They are a bit fussy about returns, and parking on the street is kind of stinky... it's usually pretty busy too, but understandably so! If you have special needs for your feet, this is where you want to be. read more

We park up the street and stop in at Peddlers Daughter or Martha's Exchange then head down to Alec's Shoes. It is usually busy but the people always seem to handle it just right. It makes me smile here. They measure the kid's feet and help to pick out shoes. The selection is far better than most area department stores and they have shoes that are going to last much longer and wear better. They have sizes, widths and styles no one else is going to have. So... I have a lot of memories when it comes to this store. Memories that were so strong, when it came time for me to buy some shoes while I was home on my Christmas break, I kind of insisted that I do it here. I actually remember when Alec's was a much smaller operation, down the street and around the corner from where it is now. It's a much bigger store, and it's a safe bet that if you're a downtown Nashua junkie like I am, you've been to this store for at least one pair of shoes. Most of the people who work here are the same people who worked here when I was 6 years old. There's something about that that's reassuring to me. Also, Mrs. Haggerty still works there, so I spent a great deal of my time here having an enjoyable conversation with her. Really, the staff here is amazing. You can ask them anything and they are going to sincerely do there best to try and help you. I spent most of my recent trip in the upstairs clearance area. The shoes here aren't typically cheap, but are pretty reasonably priced regardless. I was happy just not to be paying NYC sales tax. I ended up settling on a pair of red Nikes (my mother insists they are "gay shoes" but everyone else I asked did not share this opinion). At $60 bucks, I thought that was a pretty great deal. There was a lot of choices, even on sale. If you need shoes and you live in Nashua, buy them here. Period. read more
