'In Grandmothers We Trust' This Instagram worth brunch spot is a must if you are looking for a sweet bite and picture-perfect meal! The aesthetic alone would attract avid brunch-goers. The number of possibilities for dietary restrictions blew us out of the water with an allergen list and all. The staff was extremely friendly and inviting taking our orders and serving our food promptly! Aside from the cutie social media content, the food was yummy. We ordered an Açaí Bowl, Tropical Smoothie, Green Tea and the Big Brekkie Burrito. The Açaí Bowl is a social media favorite, but also a favorite among the taste buds. Where do I even begin? This place has perfected taste with aesthetics and would make an absolutely killing if it came to NY. One would normally not associate a place like this in Barcelona, but ironically enough this was my first food stop. It was by luck that we ended up here as we arrived on a Sunday. Lots of the yelp places we wanted to go to were closed (I forgot Sunday in Spain is a like a day long siesta of sorts) but yelp said this was still open and within walking distance. The line was long and wrapped around the block, but it moves efficiently and fast. We waited about 30 minutes (which isn't bad considering how small the place is). While waiting in line, they hand out menus so you can look and have an idea of what you're ordering. We ended up with some fresh fruit juices (mine had strawberry pineapple and oranges) and I ordered the classic Benedict, while my sister ordered some power salad. First of all, HUGE portion sizes. I was beyond stuffed at the end. Second, WOW. Every dish was so aesthetically pleasing to look at. Plating and decoration served dual purpose because not only was it good to look at, it was even better wen we ate it. The eggs Benedict sits upon some type of charcoal waffle. I've never had it (or heard of it) in my life. Added a wonderful flavor profile to the dish. The salad with grated cheese and shrimp on the side were perfect complements to the runny eggs. As much as we wanted to love this place, my bf got food poisoning for 2 days straight after eating here.. :/ We think it was from the matcha pancakes because he almost finished the entire thing. But here's our experience in a nutshell: FOOD: - Acai bowl +4/5 The acai was good but there seemed to be more granola & fruit than actual acai. - Matcha pancakes +4.5/5 Taste-wise, these were amazing! But again, it gave my bf food poisoning & the green was so artificial that I'm sure there's tons of food coloring in it. - Brekkie board +4/5 I liked this a lot because there was such a huge variety of bread, banana bread, avocado, fruits, oj, etc.. Searching for a spot to grab a late breakfast Brunch & Cake came up. The reviews looked great - and the photos even better! I will start by saying: Beware of the photos! Everything we ordered look extremely different than they used to. I went with the ham and eggs and it looked totally different. It was basically a completely new dish and instead of a ton of slices of ham on the side they now had the ham ripped up and mixed in with the egg....not what I was expecting. So much so that I honestly thought they brought the wrong dish. I tried to flag server down multiple times...and eventually had to get up and go grab him inside. When he finally came over he looked at me like I was crazy and told me that it was the same dish - but it had just changed. I showed him the beautiful photo....and then compared it to the less beautiful plate I had in front of me and he just shrugged.....the dish had changed. The rye bread was super soggy. The eggs were alright but there certainly wasn't enough ham in there for me. Sat outside in a makeshift windowsill turned bench. You can see it in the photos. Luckily this hasn't changed ;D Now to the good part. The cappuccino was great. Like really good. And since we were technically sitting outside, and it was chilly out.... it was ready to drink as soon as they placed it down. Overall I left super disappointed and this was one of the only meals that I wasn't super excited by while in Barcelona. I might of just ordered the wrong thing, but the service was also horrible, as they were super understaffed and it took forever to have our server come by for stuff like getting silverware or explaining that I might have the wrong dish. read more

Brunch and Cake is amazing. I went here every single morning during my recent trip to Barcelona and got the same exact thing each time I went. I got the BLT with cheese, a side of potatoes, side of eggs, caramel latte and a mimosa. The BLT was heavenly. It was loaded with bacon, melted cheese, tomatoes, arugula (or "rocket" as they call it in Europe), a yummy aioli sauce and it was served on a warm and flaky croissant bun. The potatoes were cut big and served in a small dish, covered in a chimichurri sauce. The eggs were a little runnier than I'm used to, but I noticed that I lot of the places in Europe had runny eggs; they were still good though. The soy caramel latte was delicious: not too sweet and not too frothy, just how I like it and it was packed with caramel flavor. The mimosa was just okay. It had quite a bit of orange juice in it when it really should have contained more champagne IMO. It was also served warm. Oh well, Spain is known for sangria, not mimosas. I didn't get to try any of the desserts, but they looked heavenly, especially the cakes. I also loved all of the outside seating, even though it mostly consists of a communal table. They also don't take reservations, so if you come closer to noon, you may have to wait a bit, but it is definitely worth it. read more

Great brunch area and when I saw the reviews on this place, I knew we had to go! It was just a walk away from where we were staying, so it was no excuse. We waited a bit to be seated and the hostess didn't seem very friendly. It's extra to sit outside, which in most cases, in Europe, that's how it works anyway. That was fine though, it was a bit chilly and we rather be seated inside. They have the menu in both Spanish and English so it's very helpful. Our waitress looked like someone killed her dog, she wasn't very friendly and seemed easily irritated. I ordered the eggs benedict on the waffle, it was a nice balance between savory and sweet and definitely hit the spot for a morning meal. My daughter got the chocolate banana bread, she was so happy she got it, the look on her face when it arrived was priceless. Our waitress wasn't phased by this at all, oh well. My husband got the eggs and potatoes hash with a side of iberico ham toast. Everything was delicious but how can you leave here without having cake when it says it in the name?! So we got an oreo cake to share, very decadent, I could hardly finish it. The fresh squeezed orange juice and cappucino were great ways to end our meal and wash everything down. It's a nice little stop and definitely worth coming in, but it lost a star because our waitress and service wasn't great. The presentation at Brunch and Cake is one of the best I've ever seen. Every item on the plate is meticulously placed. Seating is hard to come by as this place is chock full of tourists looking to eat American food in a European country, and we were no different. There is, apparently, another place they own nearby with more seating for a bigger group. We waited around half an hour in line before getting a table for 5 near the kitchen, where we could see all the wonderful food go in and out and decide which looked most appealing. I went with "The Full Veggie" which said it was "massive" but it wasn't really. The Eggs Benedict is bigger. Regardless, I was still stuffed and good to go for about 6 hours before feeling hungry again. The drinks here are really great as well. I got a cappuccino made with Oatly, an all-time great oat milk. The smoothies are also delicious -- I tasted my friends' Detox and Immuno, the Detox being the better one. Overall, it's still a very Americanized brunch place -- you wouldn't find this place to be authentically Spanish, especially given the tourists aplenty, but it's probably the best American brunch food I've had. I found this on yelp and knew I had to go! My siblings and I had tickets for La Pedrera at 12pm and since this was on the way from our hotel we decided to go around 11am. When we got there, the line was out the door and around the corner! We decided to grab a quick bite elsewhere and try again on the way back from La Pedrera for a late lunch. We got there again around 2:30pm and there was no line. I ordered the Chicken Super Sandwich and was delighted to see that it had so many veggies and fruits! The chipotle chicken coupled with the guacamole was perfect and the portions were extremely generous. The presentation was phenomenal as colors were spread out beautifully along the plate and the syringe filled with guacamole on top was a nice addition. Since there was enough guac on the sandwich, I used the syringe for my nachos. I also ordered the Banana&Cacao smoothie. While it was a little too chocolate for my liking, it tasted very healthy and was vegan. 10/10 would come back to try the açaí bowls. Randomness is the best. Near the end of our trip I decided... I don't care about unanimous decisions and I am just going to go wherever I want... you can come if you want other people... and if not, whatever. I got the thing with Mac N Cheese in it with some killer sauce on top and just a perfect bite with a little potato, cheese, egg, and a little sweet. I was delighted. All their food is intense and fun. The Nacho sandwich was incredibly fun. It comes with a guac syringe that makes it super unique. Cheese and bread and chips and guac. Just another one of those bites that makes you so happy. All of the french toasts are delicious but be prepared for a sugar overload. I recommend getting one of those and one of the savory dishes and biting back and forth between the two until tastebudgasm. THE VERDICT: Another place that was delicious that Spain delivered. It has something for everyone sweet and salty. Like I already stated the artistry of the food is on par with the taste. It isn't one of those all frills places with nothing else that are so common. So happy I found this place. It reminded me of an LA breakfast, but better quality and nicer environment. I got the toast with almond butter and Chia pudding. At first I thought the almond butter was like peanut butter, but no, it's actually Almond. Butter. I thought it was a little too sweet, but still delicious. My mom got the Eggs Benedict with salmon on a hot dog bun and she said it was the best she's had. The flavors were perfect, one flavor was not overwhelming. Dad got the French Toast that he loved, but thought was also a little too sweet. How can I not give this place a 5star review?? This place is the cutest & their food is the prettiest I feel like I'm back in Korea with all the decorations that go into each dish! Mango smoothie & Banana cacao smoothie: We enjoyed these Bc they were not too sweet. I feel like the sweetness was mainly from the natural ingredients they used (fruits). Vegetarian burger: Hubby isn't a fan of 'fake' burgers but his eyes lit up when he took a bite. He didn't forget to mention 10x how this has to be the best vegetarian burger he's ever had, anywhere. But the chips on the side weren't a hit. Avocado toast: I think the bread has olives inside? I normally hate olives unless it's on my pizza but it went so well with my dish! There was a line outside this place and thankfully we didn't have to wait too long in it. The place is a definite guiri fest where you hear more English than Spanish. But with that being said, the food is amazing and the wait however long it may be is worth it. The only bad thing is that they run out of dishes and compliments quickly and don't do enough to substitute. For instance I had the brioche French toast which was supposed to come with sweet home fries but didn't and they offered nothing as a substitute. Excellent breakfast! I had the scalloped potatoes w/ eggs. It came w/ a slice of lightly toasted focaccia bread w/ a thin shaving of ham on it. Tasted wonderful! Also got a slice of sourdough toast w/ jam--great bread! So good, came back in the afternoon w/ my wife and friends. Our group of 4 split desserts and sammies. 3 of 4 shared cheesecake and all agreed it deserved an A, though the carrot cake cupcake only rated a B. The best part of the afternoon visit were the sammies: the grilled brie sammie was wonderful, the bread lightly toasted and the brie was evenly melted and oh so good w/ the green apples and nuts. Went to Barcelona about 2 months ago and I still remember this food. Huge portions and great food! I got the bagel with mashed potatoes (sounds strange but it was really good) and scrambled eggs. One of my friends requested a plain croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs and it definitely wasn't plain... The croissant was so soft and buttery. Just like some Yelpers, I really wanted to believe that this place would be as good in flavor as it is in aesthetics. Usually you're not lucky enough to get both. That was me! The wait is super long if you don't show up at a 'good' hour and if you have a big group, just forget it. You're better off splitting into smaller groups, which is what we did. It still took an hour for us to get seated. Smoothies were too sour for me. And usually I'm a huge fan of anything fruity. Bummer. And of course I got the chipotle chicken sandwich (Gotta do it for the 'gram right? It did look really good though!), which sadly turned out to be a mediocre sandwich. The guac and tortilla chips didn't go that well together, and honestly guac coming out of a syringe got dry and boring after the first minute. The best part of the plate was definitely the chicken. I was full, so I was happy. My friends had the smoked salmon bagel, the rice bowl, and the matcha pancake. Didn't get amazing reviews for those plates either, but I personally liked the matcha pancake. If only it wasn't so sweet. Maybe we should've tried the Eggs Benedict instead. Oh wells. Service was great nonetheless, and although I don't think I'd recommend this as a top brunch spot, I don't regret coming here given all the hype about it on Youtube AND on Yelp. read more

What a charming little restaurant! I found this place thanks to my trusty Yelpers. After browsing through the amazing pictures, I was dying to check out this place! Get ready to stand in line because the place is popular! After a 30 minute wait we were seated at a packed table outside. It was so cramped where our elbows were touching each other. My SO hesitated and wanted to wait for another table, but we were told by another diner that we should sit where we can because opened seats are already hard to come by let alone being picky. So be forewarned of the space issue. I ended up chatting with two lovely girls both from the States so it turned out to be a great seating arrangement. While waiting for our food, I was ogling and drooling over these girls' dishes and that's the story of how we became acquainted. Over my stalking of their food. Their dishes looked beautiful! I was hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed with what I ordered. Oh boy, my jaws dropped as soon as our dishes were brought out. I mean, my goodness that plate of eggs benny was absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen this dish presented in such a beautiful manner! It was so beautiful that the girls across from me asked to take pictures of it. Honestly we didn't want to eat it because it was too painful to ruin such a beautiful dish. But alas we must eat. I didn't expect the food to taste all that great because often time IG-worthy dishes are mostly for show (yes I did post this on MY IG account) but yet again I was proven wrong. Worst place we ate in Barcelona. I knew I was in trouble when they could not serve a breakfast burrito without beans. Healthy restaurant? Not even fresh! It gets worse. Aside from all inedible flowers they throw all over your food, the already prepared burrito was cold on the inside. Maybe it was left over from the day before. Tasted like crap. Dog food. I think mayonnaise inside. Barely a trace of egg. Also had some unknown black dots in the food, like poppy seeds. If you are looking for gluten free, they offer nothing. Wife had Eggs Benedict without bread. Iced Latte was almost 5 Euro and served in a small little glass. Had some strange flower parts sprinkled on top. And red stuff. At a bakery eating a wonderful croissant and espresso and pretending this never happened. I appreciate the owner wants to look into it. It's not about the date I was there. It's a question of making a burrito fresh to order and not microwaving a pre-made one. I could not get a burrito without beans because clearly they are pre-made. Even a cheap greasy spoon diner makes a burrito fresh to order. Only a gas station or 7-11 sells them made and microwaveable. Make your burritos fresh and do not shower with disgusting garnish to make it appear like it's made fresh. It's not that hard to make a fresh breakfast burrito. read more

I was really excited to try Brunch & Cake after seeing pictures of their beautiful dishes and reading lots of positive reviews. While in Barcelona, my mom and I stopped by for an early dinner. There wasn't too much of a wait since we were eating at an in-between meal hour, so we were seated quickly. Inside, the restaurant is quite small, but in a cute and trendy way. The waiters here speak pretty fluent English, and served us tap water and took our orders after we had a few minutes to decide. My mom settled on the salmon poke bowl and I ordered the poached eggs with shrimp and lobster hollandaise sauce supersandwich. I mentally prepared myself for a heavy meal. When the food arrived, they were noticeably very pretty. My mom and I posed for pictures with our food before digging in. But after expecting a flavor-packed first bite, I was disappointed that my dish looked a lot better than it tasted. It didn't really taste like much at all - the hollandaise was airy and creamy, but didn't have a rich lobster or traditional hollandaise taste, and the house made black bun and salad were bland. Fortunately though, my mom enjoyed her poke bowl. The fish tasted fresh and the seaweed salad and accompanying veggies were just right. Food-wise, I probably wouldn't recommend Brunch & Cake to my friends visiting Barcelona; there are plenty of much better American brunch places to try in America. read more

I do understand that the staff might be stressed from all the people, but that still doesn't give them the right to treat us bad. The first time I went here a few weeks ago, a lady put us at the end of a long table so I was by the leg of the table. Later there came more people, so the same lady told me to scoot over in a really harsh way even though there wasn't any more space. Since they get so many customers they should tell people that if they are coming in groups, everyone from the group should be there or else they don't get to sit together.
