I'm really sorry to deliver a bad review for Bruni's since I've heard and read so much hype from so many people that seem to love it. I went with a friend to Bruni's on Saturday evening. We walked into an empty pizza shop with four guys working behind the country. We both contemplated what we wanted before ordering a thick pepperoni and sausage with extra cheese and a thin white pizza with tomato, basil, and mozzarella. For those of you who don't know about Bruni's, their "thick" crust is not like a Sicilian pizza, but just a slightly thicker crust than their thin crust. We grabbed a table and sat down with some beverages. I was pleasantly surprised to find Birch Beer on tap even if it was Fanta brand. After about 20-25 minutes our pizzas came. Right away I could tell that the pizza was different because it didn't have the traditional risen crust around the edge. I grabbed a slice of the tomato and basil pizza and dug in. The pizza crust was a lot denser than I was used to for a thin crust. This didn't make the pizza harder to chew per se, but it wasn't what I really was looking for (this may be something that locals love and that's fine, but I'm speaking here from my opinion.) The pizza crust was also missing salt and had that "flat" taste that you taste in any baked goods that have salt omitted or when not enough is added. Another thing that kind of turned me off was the lack of a charred crust. To me this is a must-have for a good pizza (and most others will agree.) It doesn't take a brick oven to deliver a charred crust, so there's no excuse here. The thick crust was pretty much all that I've mentioned above only a thicker crust. Perhaps the yeast was inactive in this batch of dough? Perhaps my friend and I are two of the only people who aren't into this sort of crust. Regardless of my thoughts on any restaurant (so far) I will always try a second time in case of an inconsistency. Overall, the ambiance was like any other pizza shop and the staff was pleasant and kind. Unfortunately, I'm not big on Bruni's. read more

When pizza is all you do, you better do it well. Bruni's does it better than well, and it can be attributed to the combination of a unique "family secret" sauce, and a flaky thin crust. Some of the other reviewers describe the crust as "crispy", but that definition is a little misleading. It's closer to flat bread and has a delicate flakiness to it that compliments the bold and slightly sweet sauce. Because the sauce and crust are the stars of the show, less cheese is needed which, as an added bonus results in a lighter, fresher, pizza devoid of the oily pools you sometimes get on an over-cheesed pizza. The sausage they use is the "crumpled" type, which I prefer over the shaved or chopped. I had slices of both plain and sausage and for the first time ever, I admitted to my wife that I preferred the plain over the sausage because the sausage detracted from the greatness of the sauce! The premises is as close to a typical generic pizza place as I can describe. They only have about 7 or 8 tables of varying sizes, but it seemed that most people were stopping in for take-out so seating wasn't a problem. It was a little warm in there, probably due to a lack of air conditioning or the large hot ovens in a relatively small place. But they did have a strong rotating fan setup that made us forget about the heat after a while. They are cash only and don't accept credit/debit cards so be sure to plan accordingly. The service was fast and friendly. The bathroom was clean. Several of the tables were a bit messy when we first stopped in, but by the time we ordered and found a clean seat someone was out in the dining room wiping down and busing tables so it didn't appear that they were dirty that long. I hope I haven't oversold my appreciation of this place or it's pizza. There really isn't anything special about it... but I think it's this simplicity that, as Da Vinci once said, "is the ultimate sophistication". read more

What I would do for a Bruni's pizza...oye. I don't know whether it's because I've been programmed to love Bruni's or if it is actually THAT good but holy crap....such.good.pizza. My Mom grew up in Hammonton and worked at Bruni's in high school, so of course whenever we would go visit my grandmom, Bruni's was the only thing we were allowed to eat...except for Royal Crown ice cream. Now that I live in North Jersey I make it absolutely mandatory that I get down to Bruni's at least once a year...which is NO WHERE near often enough but hey, it's a far drive. Everything about their pizza is perfect, I literally can think of no complaint...it's just plain delicious. I can't wait to head down there as soon as the weather gets warm so I can get a large pie and then a large blueberry milkshake from RC...now that is my perfect meal. read more

Delicious pizza. You might not like it if you prefer a lot of cheese and thick crust, but even if you do you would still probably think it's delicious. Their sauce is one of a kind and is what makes the pizza so damn delicious. Since it's thin (and really delicious) I end up eating half of the pizza. Ok, more than half. I noticed someone said that when they went there the place was empty. Yes, it usually is pretty empty. The reason for that is most of their customers order for pick up. Bruni's is actually very busy. I had high hopes when I saw this Pizzeria highlighted on Ch. 17 News but I am disappointed. I did try A thin crust with half sausage half pepperoni and on another day I tried a Sicilian, which was awful. It has no flavor, the sauce is very acidic and the cheese has no taste. The odd thing is the pizza looks like it's going to be fantastic when it comes out of the oven but there's no flavor. I'm amazed that there are so many good reviews.I will have to keep looking for a decent pizza in the surrounding area, but this definitely is not it. read more

Stay clear of this place. For a place that only does pizza , you'd think it would be good. The parts of the crust that weren't burnt tasted like crackers. The pizza had no taste at all and when I asked the guys that made it if he had some Parmesan cheese, he made a face and slammed it down on the counter. I said "Thank you" to which he didn't respond. That's some good pizza. Perfectly done thin crispy crust. Delicious sauce, just the right amount of cheese. Perhaps Bruni's is so good at pizza because that's all they do. That's all that's on the menu. Thin, thick, medium, large, and an assortment of toppings. No delivery, cash only. This old-school pizza place is a definite must-try. My son has eating issues. Bruni's pizza is one of the things he will eat. And he does ask for it. This was great when there was a Bruni's in Millville. But that closed. As did the one in Buena. It's a long drive to Hammonton, but we do it occasionally because of him. This is not the kind of pizza that I yearn for. There is not enough cheese for my liking. But Fritz likes it, so we eat it. The crust is good. I find the pizza expensive. We don't get toppings are they seem to come out to about $15. That's a lot of dough, not much cheese, and sauce. This is similar to Manco's pizza in Ocean City, that some swear by. read more

Walked in and asked for a takeout menu. They told me they don't have any, I should go down the street to another store because they have them? Umm, what? I looked online for a menu and they don't have one there either. It's alright. The place is pretty cool and has that New York pizza joint feel to it but the pizza taste is far from it. The crust was thin and chewy, very starchy. The sauce didn't have much flavor either and there was barley any cheese. I don't think I would come here again but maybe later in the summer just to see if I caught them on a bad day. read more

When I moved to Hammonton 2.5 years ago I would have rated it 4 stars but it is going downhill I'm afraid. It used to be thin crust pizza that didn't bend when you held it up and had just enough crunch in each delicious bite just the way I like it. I am a self admitted pizza snob. It is one of my top three foods, I like it with a variety of toppings, different crusts and different styles. This place is old school. Cash only, great family atmosphere, and just a few traditional toppings. Now to the pizza, fresh and delish! I would like it a litter crisper, but still very good! Bruni's is known for it's pizza- because that's literally all they make. The staff was super friendly and efficient. I thought the pizza was ok. That's about it. It was crispy and satisfying, but I don't think I'd go out of my way for it. And the price is a little steep. $13 for a large pie seems outrageous for South Jersey. If I'm around this area again (visiting the local vineyards) I'd possibly swing by. read more

Best thin crust pizza I've had in a long time, even after my wife and I just completed a 12 day trip to Italy, and stopped in NJ. The 3 "best pizzas" we had in Italy had NOTHING on Bruni's. Ordered the hand patted 1/2 mushroom, 1/2 sausage/pepperoni. The sauce was tangy and there was plenty of it as I like. Although the pie was well covered by pepperoni, the sausage was finely ground, like a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, "dusted." The mushroom had the appearance of being the canned variety. I didn't eat any, but I was told that they did indeed seemed to taste like canned. This is puzzling. Still, an excellent pizza. Also, be aware that this is a small place that is geared for take out business. Be prepared for paper plates, and only soda/water to drink (no alcohol). read more

First of all, Bruni's has a very unique, proprietary type of pizza. If you like thick crust pizzas, this isn't the place for you. Bruni's main pizza is a thin and crispy. The dough and sauce, in my opinion, are near perfection. I hesitate to call their pizza NY style even though it has a thin crust. Bruni's is the pizza i grew up on, and the one to which all others are compared to this day. i heard that ownership has changed since then, and there ARE minor differences but the sauce, cheese and crust are pretty much as i remember from childhood. thin 'cracker' type crust, basic but tasty toppings. the pepperoni has always been my favorite. it's been a while, but i'll be passing through Hammonton this weekend and can't wait for my first bite of Bruni's! read more

We decided to try the new Bruni's Pizza in Buena, NJ. We were a tad disappointed that they didn't offer subs, cheesesteaks or fries. We quickly realized why they only specialize in pies and pepperoni bread. I'm a die hard pizza enthusiast and very critical. I would agree that their pizza is the best in Southern Jersey! A family favorite! Bruni's pizza is different than what I think of when I think of a traditional Italian pizza, but it always hits the spot. It is similar to a Mac and Manco's pizza- cheese and sauce are swirled on top rather than layered, it is not very oily, and the crust and dough are powdery. It has a bit of a sweeter flavor. The smell of Bruni's alone deserves 5 stars- it is one of my favorite childhood smells! I really only prefer the cheese pizza. The sausage is sub par. The pepperoni pizza is good, but again I prefer the cheese. I rarely ever eat at Bruni's. It is small inside, less than ten tables and no table service. It is not the most comfortable seating either. I don't believe they have any booths. It is definitely a takeout spot. read more

Pizza was really good!! When we walked in, we were told a pie was coming out of the oven so we had hot, fresh pizza. We had the lunch special of two slices and a drink for six dollars which was well worth it. The sauce was very tasty. Being from Brooklyn, I can be real picky about my pizza. I would have given it five stars but I prefer my pizza to have a little thicker crust than what was served. Plus, it's family owned which I like to support. read more

My whole family and I , as well as several friends have SWORN by Bruni's pizza for several decades as the best of the best!!! All of a sudden they CHaNGED!!!! the crust is not crisp as before .It is floury and chewy!! The sauce is also COMPLETELY different! Everyone has said the exact same thing? I went back 3 times trying to convince myself that I was crazy or that my taste buds had died!!! Alas.......we all came to the same conclusion. They raised the prices and lowered the quality by changing the original recipe! . I would have gladly paid $20 for an original Bruni's pie! Bruni's is the best pizza shop ever! Yes, it even beats my favorite practically from birth, Mac & Manco's (OC). To top it off, Rick and Danielle are the nicest people you'd ever want to know, with three beautiful girls. The only negative would report is more of a warning: it's a cash-only business.
