I ordered the gnocchi with mussels, and clams in an eggplant sauce. The Hubster had the carbonara. Both were delicious. The shellfish was full of flavour. Service was very polite. I made a reservation here 2.5 months in advance of our trip to the Almafi coast. My wife and I walked in and spoke to a waiter...showing him our reservation. The waiter stated that all reservations were cancelled the night before. Another American couple had a similar experience as us. While we waited to speak to another waiter, an Italian family came in and was seated immediately. We spoke to another waiter who threw his hands in the air and said they were booked for the night so we left. Don't waste your time. Food looked overrated too. The food here is ok at best. The service is very poor. The owner and the staff are very arrogant. We had a bad bottle of wine that was past its prime and tasted like vinegar. When I tried to return it, they wanted to charge me half the bottle. They told me this after they already took it and offered to replace it. The Owner came out and tried to charge me. They had already dumped half the bottle and then brought it back to me because I told them if I was going to pay for a bottle I wanted it back. Stay away from here. Bar Bruno was a great choice for a meal out in Positano. We made a reservation several days before (which I recommend if you want an outdoor spot). The view was incredible and since it is a little higher up then the center we had a wonderful view of the city and ocean. The food was affordable... Mixed feelings about Bar Bruno. First, the positives: + great location + al fresco dining + totally fabulous & affordable wine + homemade pasta with frutti di mare = incredible + linguine with clams and parmesan = also incredible Unfortunately my friends got the dishes mentioned above and I ordered the pasta with fish, which came with all of one tiny sliver of fish. Laughable. Also, the shrimp in the shrimp pasta was reported by friend as being very fishy tasting and not deveined. These two dishes were remarkably bad, but if you steer clear of them and focus on the frutti di mare or linguine with clams, you should have a great meal. Another downside - we had the absolute slowest service on earth. I get that it's a seaside town and we're on vacation and everything, but my stomach doesn't understand "Italian time." read more

This is a very special place in Positano. The food is delicious an authentic. Though it is not located on the beach, the views are AMAZING. The tables are set up along the cliff overlooking all of positano, so each table has an unobstructed view of the whole town and the ocean (yachts galore!). This is definitely a place to relax and have a nice long romantic Italian style meal. The service is good but slow, but that adds to the charm of eating in such a small special place. They have some of the best espresso we had in all of Italy, made in a very old espresso machine...authentic! For those who say they prefer Bruno's to Chez Black, they are both very different experiences, and cannot really be compared. I would suggest doing one night at each, as Chez Black is more of a scene, while Bruno's is intimate and private. read more

Worst food I've had in Italy so far. The view, dining outside and very nice and attentive staff = 4 stars, the food = 0 stars. I first ordered the steak -it was fatty and too tight to even cut - the inside was grey, I sent it back and asked for chicken instead - it tasted off and the texture was rubbery. My husband got the pasta and it was very doughy and over cooked. I'll note that neither I nor my husband ordered seafood which might have been a better choice and I did notice other dinner enjoyed their food. I'd recommend coming for a glass of wine and enjoying the view - stay far away from the food - your stomach and wallet will thank you. read more

Epically rude and inattentive wait staff. Nino, who seemed to be the head waiter, took some dislike of us (we had the audacity to stop in without making a reservation). He questioned our wine choice, deliberately brought the wrong water, and 'forgot' to bring a second bottle of water when we asked. Our meal, when served by someone else, was superb. But no further attention to be had - we sat for 30 minutes with a faint hope we might be offered a coffee, aperitif or dessert, to no avail. We finally got our check; I had to go inside to find someone to take our money, and happened to see Nino hanging out outside the kitchen. I let him know we weren't happy with the device and walked out. We were a block away when he ran up to us to tell us he was 'offended' by my comments about his service. Location is good for views (but so is everywhere else), only this place is a pain to drive up if you're staying in the heart of Positano overlooking the sea deep in real and authentic Positano. The view is obviously phenomenal. The service is somewhat lackadaisical. The food is not the best you are going to find in Italy, but it is better than nearly any of the Italian food you will find in most other countries (France, US, Singapore, etc.). Three stars for an Italian restaurant in Italy, although it would be four stars for those other countries. The prosciutto e melone was excellent with very thin and soft slices of prosciutto and green honeydew (not with cantaloupe, as it usually is served in Rome). The pasta alla Sorrentina was delicious but a little too rich. I think they put butter in their tomato sauce and may have over-done it because it was too orange. It felt a little like the sauce on an Indian dish. The waiter said they had "strawberry cake" but when we ordered it we got sfoglie, a thin phyllo dough shell filled with crema-type pudding, maybe 1.5 sliced strawberries, and a sea of over-processed, red food-dye strawberry sauce which was clearly from a plastic bottle. The chocolate ice cream was a little better, but again too much sauce from a bottle. The 7 euro mini bottle of prosecco hit the spot. read more

Bar Bruno is similar to other restaurants along the single winding road running through downtown Positano: it has indoor seating and a restaurant and also a small number of tables outside, across the road on the hill edge with views overlooking the beach and town. The view is really lovely if you happen to get one of the outdoor tables. Also good people watching. Be aware the traffic on the road--of the pedestrian, two-and four-wheeled varieties-- are going by inches from your table. This makes for an energized dining experience, if you like real sidewalk-style hustle and bustle. If not, the inside portion of the restaurant may be more to your liking. The food is decent, and only moderately overpriced (you're paying for the view, after all.) They have a good wine list with a nice representation of local wines. The service is....well-intentioned but clueless and very chaotic. It as if they fired the real wait staff en masse and hired the local boy scout troop. Be prepared to keep after them on everything. Table management also appears to be a mystery to them. Despite having a reservation of our own, we and several other coupes got asked several times to get up (in the middle of dinner) and move to another table because they had apparently forgotten someone else had made a reservation for 10 people, requiring a game of "musical tables". You have to take this sort of chaos with a good humor, but just be prepared for it. read more

A little late review but I was not a " yelper" last summer . What an experience . AMAZING . The views of Positano from the restaurant, are STUNNING . The place is gorgeous literally on a sidewalk along the cliffs of Positano . The food is exceptional. The service very attentive, friendly and efficient . There's a small area across the street so the waiters have to cross the street back and forth . On a warm night , the breeze from the sea feels amazing dining al fresco with a candle light white tablecloth table . Is simply fantastic . The past is fresh, the sauces are homemade . The wine list extensive and affordable ( well , the wine in Italy is very affordable ) Nothing better than waiting for the table with a glass of champagne people watching and looking at the beautiful town of Positano . A very nice restaurant slightly up the hill in Positano. There is outdoor and indoor seating; and the views from the sidewalk seem to be as good as they can be in Positano... just as long as you don't mind motorcycles and Fiats whizzing by you as you eat. The food was delicious. I had a Gnocchi frutte di mare, which included homemade Gnocchi, fresh seafood, and a delicious sauce. For my second course, I enjoyed their steak topped with garlic and fresh herbs. Although it was very fatty, it was flavorful as well. It just wasn't a ton of meat for 20 euros. I finished with a nougat semifreddo that was probably the best dessert I'd had in Italy. Fantastic! I'd definitely recommend Bruno to anyone in Positano... especially if you're looking to save a few bucks from the heavily traveled spots down by the water. read more

Bruno's serves up the best spaghetti pomodoro I have ever eaten. Delicious, fresh and perfectly al dente. The caprese was beautiful and the tomatoes were perfect. The mozzarella had the perfect amount of salt. Really delicious. We went back 2 nights later and had the exact same meal.
