I've had pizza from the East Coast to the West Coast. Good pizza and bad. I've learned to recognize the telltale signs of a good old-school pizza place. Bruno's Roseland has almost all of them, so I went in with pretty high expectations. I was not disappointed. This is pizza at its best and its most basic. There's nothing fancy here. Just fresh dough made in-house. Fresh vegetables cut by hand. No frozen ingredients. A sausage blend recipe I'd pay good money for. And ovens that have probably seen tens of thousands of pizzas. No gimmicks. No trendy toppings... but they do have anchovies, which I asked for! Just people who know how to make great pizza by sticking to what has always worked. read more

Great staff, alright food, but the interior needs a serious do-over. The furnishings feel like they could have been plucked from the neighborhood Goodwill. Not conducive to out of town guests. The pizza is alright, but I wouldn't consider it good. While I personally loved the thick bready crust, runny and thin, relatively tasteless, pizza sauce is a no-no. . I lived in Chicago for 10 years, I've had GOOD pizza. When I saw this particular Bruno's had new owners I was hopeful that there might be a GOOD pizza joint on the North Side of South Bend. I was wrong. Just on a whim I pulled in here and ordered a plain cheese pizza. My theory is if a place can make a GOOD cheese pizza then all of their other pizzas should be GOOD! I got a 12" pie for $13.91- a little pricey for a plain cheese pizza, but IF it's REALLY good then it might be worth it. I was in here at 9:15 on a Tuesday night and no one else was in the restaurant. While I was waiting for my pie to bake they received one phone order in about 20 minutes- they were not busy. I told the new owners how I had been in here about 9 months ago and the pizza was not very good and he promised me this was going to be a GOOD pizza! The 2 people working here continued to talk-up their pizza as I waited. I got home and snapped a photo first thing. I took a bite and immediately knew this was going to be disappointing. The pizza had almost NO sauce on it! (I took a photo!) The sauce is the flavor! Everything else is just greasy cheese and dry crust! I picked around the pie, thinking maybe the sauce was just uneven and I happened to get a "dry" slice. There was almost no sauce on most of the pizza. We got the combination pizza and it was fantastic. The toppings, the cheese and the crust were all busy right. We were in town for a night and decided to order some pizza for delivery to our nearby hotel. I ordered 2 medium pizzas, a small pizza, an order of garlic bread, and a salad. It came to $66! Seemed like a lot for me. They told me it would be about an hour for delivery. It turned into about 1:45. The salad and garlic bread were good, not spectacular. The pizza, unfortunately was not good. The crust was thick, hard, and overbaked. It was tough. Certainly, not anywhere close to being worth the cost! Stay away from this place. read more

Are first time here . Went to the Garth brooks concert and are hotel was across the street it was either pizza or Taco Bell with a HuGE line . Went here pre-pandemic. I do NOT like using my credit card and being asked to add a tip. If I choose to tip on a pickup order, that should be my decision - i feel like they put you on the spot and do not like that. Visited post pandemic and I can tell you driving up, the place looks like an abandoned business - you would likely NOT go here judging from the outside. Inside is no better - its all walled off now and no inside seating at my visit. The staff on the phone was rude taking my order - refused to accept Bruno's coupons. Okay, fine. Pick up - rude lady - made the wrong size pizza from what I ordered - handed it to me anyway and charged me the full price. One pizza was very good. The other was not good and the toppings were pouring on the side - I sat on the flat floor in my car so I know I did not do that (not my first rodeo on that). I find this is probably not a place I will return to. I worry about cleanliness, rude staff and always being asking for a tip when they ring me up. Will stick to downtown South Bend location where I get much getter service and the building is not in such a state of disrepair. Overall I love the Bruno's pizza chain. I've often gone to the original location and the one in Granger with great success. Last night I decided to try the one in Roseland. Ordered a large pepperoni and sausage at 8 PM and was told it would be 35 to 40 minutes. After couple extra calls the pizza showed up at 9:30 cold and smooshed to one side. Called and spoke to the manager and told him we wanted a new one and would pick it up. Manager said it would be ready at 10 PM. Showed up at 10 and didn't get the pizza till 10:30. For years I had all but given up on Bruno's around town. Too much crust and the service is usually not great. The new owner/operators in Roseland have won me over, accommodating my request for super thin crust. I have to transport the large 20" pie in the trunk of my Corolla. Most importantly, the service is very friendly and the toppings are fresh and generously portioned. We eat off this huge pizza for a few days and it reheats nicely. It is easy to see that this is a family run operation and the family cares about what they are serving. read more

Bruno's is my favorite pizza in town, but I will never go to this location again. I called ahead and ordered a pizza, showed up 20 minutes later to find that they had forgotten my order. No worries, I'm a patient person and it happens time to time. So I had to wait 20 minutes while they made the pizza. During this time, the 2 people behind the counter were answering the phone, taking payments from customers... and making pizza. Without washing their hands. One of the cooks was making pizza and pausing every 5 minutes to blow his nose, again without washing his hands. He was also wiping his nose, touching and scratching his head... all with bare hands. In south bend over the weekend and got a recommendation from my cousin for Bruno's Pizza. Upon entering we got a good vibe from the place and a friendly greeting. They had great cheese bread as an appetizer and for the main course, the big draw is the pizza and man do they deliver. We ordered a large "Ward" style with mushrooms onions garlic and sausage. all the ingredients were really fresh and the pizza crust was near perfectly done. I like this Bruno's on Dixie Way (SR933 north of South Bend in the Roseland area) for carry-out. Honestly I don't know how they can keep this location in business... I've never seen anyone dining in or anyone else picking up a pizza at the same time as me. Every time I've ordered a pizza from them, its been very good, as well as really inexpensive for the quality that it is. The picture that someone posted of a Bruno's pizza looks pretty much exactly like the ones that I've had from there. Love the sauce, all the ingredients are fresh and very tasty. It is easy to get to, you just take Michigan north, past Notre Dame, and this location will be on the right between a couple hotels. There's a side/back parking lot next to the building and, well, no line inside to pick up. read more

Pizza preferences are so personal it's going to be hard to please everyone but this place has a great handle on good, fresh make to order pizza. They're generous with the toppings and sauce, the salads were fresh and tasty. The price was very good and delivery time was fast. My own personal wish is a slightly less thick crust but like I said - that's a preference, not a problem. It may have been a thicker crust but it was cooked all the way through and not doughy. Very great service! Even tho two people just had babies they still seem to have things rolling smoothly ordered the 20" Margarita with chicken and Jalapeño on it and it was cooked to perfection. You can tell the dough is made fresh (it doesn't have that old yeast taste) and you can tell the veggies are fresh they where prepping them as we where walking in!!!
