The braised short ribs were really good and mine shredded very easily and was seasoned really well..... the mashed potatoes tasted buttery and was soft - just how I like it.. Traveling recently and were just tired and needed to stop. The location worked for us so we gave them a try. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service. I had a jambalaya fettuccine which was amazing! My husband decided to try the servers recommendation of the short ribs. I think he wished he had gotten a 2nd portion to take along for the next day. They were so tender and delicious! I think they won an award for them. Atmosphere is very pub like but the food is worth stopping for. This tavern had a comfy, laid-back vibe with a full bar and video poker games along the counter. Our server was really friendly and took great care of us, which made the experience even better. The food was pretty solid overall. We ordered the Cajun shrimp salad, Tavern burger, buffalo cauliflower, and fish and chips. I'm giving 4 stars mainly because the buffalo cauliflower didn't actually taste like buffalo -- it leaned more toward a curry-style spice. It was still good, just not what we were expecting. The fish and chips came with deep-fried salmon, which unfortunately was a bit dry. On the bright side, the fries were SO good -- they tasted like they were fried in beef tallow and reminded us of McDonald's fries in the best way. I really enjoyed our experience at Tahoe Tavern before opening night over at the Knight Monsters game. Great food and drinks and some interesting menu options! We arrived for an early dinner around 5pm. The place was mostly empty at the time. We were seated promptly and ordered some drinks. The cocktails were good. The espresso martini was especially delicious. We put in our order for food. I was impressed by the menu. Many things looked good and there were many classic dishes as well as traditional dishes with a twist. Our food came and the two burgers were good as well as the side of onion rings for an extra charge. One of our burgers was ordered with a side salad and there is an extra charge for that too. The birria dip was interesting and had great flavor. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty but we couldn't quite decide what was "Korean" about it. The restaurant is nicely decorated with plenty of tables. I suspect this was not always a restaurant based on the massive mirrored wall. But maybe it's just a unique design choice. Why not five stars? Nothing was amazing. The portions were a bit small, especially the proteins. The chicken patty was very slim and I do think the dip could have had more meat. The burgers were ok, but nothing out of this world. The prices are also high. For four entrees and two cocktails the bill was about $150 before tip. Seems a bit steep, but it is Tahoe. I'll visit Tahoe Tavern again because I'd like to try some other menu items. Overall it's a cool spot. I'd recommend it if you're looking for somewhere around stateline that is not in the hustle and bustle of the casinos. Cheers! read more

During our annual summer vacation, my friends and I decided to try Tahoe Tavern & Grill for lunch as we were near Stateline in South Lake Tahoe. TT&G is a great location offering up some pretty damn tasty food and drinks, along with gaming and sports bar vibes in a casual, inviting setting. Our server, Travis B., was super friendly and took care of our party with some great service and a friendly attitude. Our group ordered a variety of pizzas, tacos and sandwiches. I went with the 10" Deck Roasted Veggie Pizza - sweet San Marzano tomato sauce, custom cheese blend, topped with slow roasted onion, mushroom, marinated artichoke hearts, grilled red pepper, broiled Roma tomato and garlic confit. I really liked the pizza. The dough was nice, so to the right balance of crisp and softness. The ingredients on the Deck Roasted Veggie were delicious and blended well together. There were a couple of slightly burnt crust edges, but overall, not too bad. My friends enjoyed their tacos, pizzas and sandwiches as well. The feedback from our group included that the Pacific Pig pizza was unique and delicious, while the street tacos were just OK. TT&G is a nice gastropub that offers something for everyone, including a kid's menu. The prices aren't too over the top given the quality of the ingredients. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Plenty of indoor seating, along with a shaded outdoor area as well. A half dozen TVs featuring live sporting events, video poker at the bar, plenty of parking in the strip mall space and clean restrooms. Check them out the next time you are near Stateline in South Lake Tahoe for a solid meal, rain or shine. read more

So there I was, I couldn't go home because it was my wife's book club night. I've already been working an hour beyond my regular day. I'm hungry and I have to drive by this establishment on a regular basis. You see I live down in the Carson valley. I give in. I know there are dozens of menu items that I have not tried yet and I already know that I love this place. Tonight I would try something new, and so I did. Tonight it was the Heat Check hamburger. It seemed like if you could think of a food that is spicy it was on this burger. Oh, and before I forget, they start with a half pound of meat. The burger comes with a side of fries, and you could upgrade to onion rings, the soup of the day, a house salad, and number of other items. I chose the fries and then I still had another decision to make. Did I want thin cut fries or thick cut fries? So, as you might suspect, I'm in no hurry and so I check out the two different televisions that are broadcasting a women's NCAA playoff softball game, and a women's tennis match. I think it was the French Open, but I'm not sure. Nonetheless, it kept me busy as I rotated between the two screens. When I arrived at the restaurant it was mostly empty, and it gradually got more crowded as my time there went on. I was getting used to the sports bar ambience, and so I ordered a beer, a tap beer that came out of San Diego that was similar to Blue Moon. Hoping someone at the restaurant reads this! Patrick was amazing, greeted us with a smile and although we didn't have a reservation on a busy night, he made it work! Can't tell you how important that was considering we had just driven over 8 hrs to Tahoe! The food was yummy! I really wanted them to know that Patrick was amazing, but we were invisible to the rest of the wait staff. They literally never looked at us when they walked by. Patrick was busy behind the bar and they NEVER checked on us for refills, etc. It was a young girl, a heavy set man, and an older lady with white hair and a long ponytail. Not the young lady's fault at all for the service, but there was only one server waiting the whole place, and she was definitely busy! As far as the food, it looks wonderful and great! But the flavor lacked a bit as well. The Popcorn cauliflower had some solid reviews on Yelp and Google, but I did not agree that the flavor was there. The Korean Chicken Sandwich had good flavor and crunch, which I would recommend! The side salad was a great side to share! The Ahi Poke to be $40 is just not worth it, honestly. Quite surprising with the pricing and quality of Ahi Poke they are serving. Burgers and fries were standard and nothing special, quite cold when they came out, too. What a hidden gem! The bartender was friendly and helpful with our selections and the chef was super friendly! The wings were flavorful, the best seasoning I've had. The wedge salad was fresh and great (I know it's iceberg but it was great!). We got whiskey sours - they were stiff, yet great tasting, not overpowering. We def will be back on our next visit! Good for dinner as a large party! On the Friday of a holiday weekend, we were able to make a same-day reservation at Tahoe Tavern & Grill. The interior had a very causal vibe - minimal decor, sports on the TV screens, etc. - and was also pretty loud. We opted to sit on the (dog friendly) front patio, which was thankfully much quieter. For drinks, I was able to order the Dragonfruit Mojito as a mocktail, which was tasty and refreshing. My friends got the Strawberry Basil Margarita (very good) and Blackberry Moonshine Lemonade (unusual but still tasty). For food, I ordered both the Popcorn Cauliflower and Ahi Poke. This was way too much food for one person, so I had plenty of leftovers to bring home. The Ahi Poke was mostly good, but the tuna could've tasted a little more fresh. However, the Popcorn Cauliflower was fantastic! The cauliflower itself had a nice kick to it, and both dipping sauces went great with it. My friends all enjoyed their food as well, including the Margherita Sandwich, Korean Chicken Sandwich, and Tavern Burger. Portion sizes were very generous and service was fast and friendly.
