Brush Salon is awesome! I'm not all that picky about my hair - I go for natural coloring and classic styles. Really all I want is for it to look good without spending too much time in front of the mirror everyday. Since my hair requirements are so basic, it should be simple to find a salon and stylist I love. That's not been the case. I've gone through a long list of salons and been really underwhelmed by the talent and shocked by the pricing. I found Brush by stumbling across an Instagram image of a friend's new hair style and it was PERFECTION. I tracked down the salon and stylist info to make my own appointment. I was blown away by the facilities - it wasn't too busy or too loud. It was actually really relaxing. Not only was the salon phenomenal, but so was Madison. She was the first stylist I've seen in years that did an amazing job on my hair - cut and color were both perfect. I've been back since my first appointment and was unable to schedule Madison on short notice. I was a little leery at first, but was extremely happy with the way my hair turned out. Lily is amazing! I just moved to Wilmington in July, and Lily was referred to me by a new friend I met when I arrived here. The girl who did my hair previously sort of didn't hit the mark, especially around my roots, so I reached out to Lily to help fix. She did just that! Her pricing is also reasonable, and the salon was in a great location and very comfortable. Lily is also so sweet and friendly - as a blonde, it's super hard to find someone who can hit the mark the first time. Still never got a refund or any further contact from salon on fixing the issue with my botched hair job by amber. Never received an apology or anything. They still claimed that the new client discount of 20% was their effort at giving my money back but I was a first time client at this salon. Smh. Amber and her manager/ salon owner argued that my hair photos are inaccurate and false and my hair is my fault. When I originally told Amber my hair was not right she argued that it's the lighting and it will look icy and not dark after she dried it and I'm different lighting so I took plenty of photos and still very disappointed and feel very bullied by staff. I wish I could say this was a good experience but it was awful and degrading. I work in service industry and definitely would help any unhappy clients if I had any.. a few of my clients used to work with her and alerted me amber got fired for calling people the N word and stealing money from her coworkers at beauty bar.. she definitely robbed me and fooled me. read more

I get my hair cut by Ashley at Brush and I have to say she's amazing. She understands my hair and what it will (and will not) do. She always takes the time to listen to me, offer suggestions, and is always prompt for an appointment. The atmosphere is great- not like some other salons where you feel like you need to be uber-rich or a supermodel to go there. I highly recommend this salon if you want a good cut and/or color. read more

I've been seeing Kim for a couple years now and it's because of her that my previously over processed bleached to the high heavens hair is now healthy and a more complimentary shade of blonde. She definitely has a knack for designing what looks best on her clients- which is what separates a good hairdresser from a great hairdresser. I visited Brush today and let me tell you, I had the best experience! I decided on a whim that I NEEDED to get my hair done today. After calling a few places that either didn't answer or couldn't get me in, I called Brush. Emily answered the phone and was so nice! She said that she would call a stylist and get someone to see me for an appointment at 1pm. Roxanne was my stylist and not only did she have a friendly demeanor but she also did an absolutely incredible job! I couldn't be happier! Thanks Brush! I will be back soon! read more

My hair was out of control by the time I was able to get it cut. It is wavy so I either cut it short in layers or use the waves without getting bird's wings on the sides. I got a cut from Emily who was very nice. This was my first cut with her and I probably should have said I wanted it shorter at the end but I thought I would just leave it. It was my fault for not speaking up. I am left with my hair being too long but again, not Emily's fault. I may go back in the next couple of weeks and try again. read more

I was in Wilmington today to get a facial at my go to spot, and I decided on impulse to get my hair cut. I looked on trusty Yelp for a place close to where I was already going to be, and they needed to be able to cut my hair at a specific time. Brush had no problem with fitting my impulse decision right on in. I arrived a little early and tried to waste time by looking around downstairs at the Co-Op grocery store, that I fell in love with, but I eventually decided to just go wait upstairs in the salon. It's cute. It's like you're in an industrial tree house, and it's nicely decorated. They use Bumble and Bumble products, if that matters to you, me I'm really indifferent about it, but like I said, it's nicely decorated. I was told Rachel would be cutting my hair, and she walked up after I'd been sitting for, literally, 2 seconds and told me she was ready for me. FAST! I like it. Rachel is adorable. She's this cute, friendly bubbly blonde who just looks like someone you'd trust your hair to. I'm actually pretty passive when it comes to my hair, but I did have some slight request this time because with my last hair chop I ended up with some layers that grew out funny. I asked Rachel to fix these and she did, no problem. Anyways, I recommend Brush Salon if you're looking for a spot to trust your mane to. read more

I had my haircut here last month by Amber. She was great - very experienced - and she actually listened to me. The salon is spacious and full of light - a nice, relaxing environment. Amber used a wonderful Moroccan oil on my hair when she styled it. The cut was a bit pricey ($50) but worth it. I will definitely be back. This haircut was the only one out of 3 so far that I've had in Wilmington that I have been satisfied with and that I received compliments on afterward. read more

I had a cut and partial highlight with Jesse. She did a very good job on my highlights and made sure to fully understand how I wanted my hair cut( she did a great LOB for me,which is a long bob). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they don't offer any sort of first time client discount. I think that is important when looking for a new stylist because it can get really pricey and you may not be very happy with with what you get. Also, the rinsing sink is very uncomfortable. I think all sinks are uncomfortable, but this one was actually making me squirm. I felt bad because Jesse was trying to make it better but to no avail. I would recommend her to others. read more

I first moved to Wilmington in 2003 and I used to drive back and forth to my hometown for a haircut because, well if you're like me, you hair is precious and you have to know that whoever is dealing with it is on point and great at what they do. In 2007-2008 I finally decided it was time to give the locals (selective) a chance with my hair. I finally found and settled with Brush Salon in 2015 (I know! That was a long quest but like I said earlier you have to be selective when it comes to your hair)! From the moment you walk in Brush, it provides a nice open concept. The receptionist is always nice, points you to the beverages while you wait if your stylist isn't finished yet when you walk in, and the vibe is just chill. Rachel Robinson is my current stylist after the previous Rachel (still at Brush) moved out of town. Rachel listens to what you want and makes perfection everytime!!! From cuts, to highlights, to hair and make up for my shows, this girl can do it all and mixed in with the atmosphere at Brush, you can't go wrong! A couple weeks ago I got my hair cut and styled by Madison Elise! My hair had not been cut in over a year. She gave me a beautiful face frame cut in the front and cut several inches off. She was super friendly and easy to talk to. I had never been to Brush Salon before, but now I have found my new hair stylist. She suggested I try something new and get my hair lightened up for summer. Tomorrow I have an appointment with her to get my hair colored. Hands down the best salon in Wilmington, and I should know I've pretty much been to all of them. I requested an appointment with Kimberly, the owner, and was lucky enough to take advantage of a cancellation a few days later. The salon is really nice and has a laid back vibe, there was a wedding party there at the time of my appointment and they were all gorgeous and very happy with their hair. Kimberly was sweet, professional, attentive, everything you could ask for. Most importantly she gave me the best hair cut I have had in years!!! She also added highlights and toned my hair to exactly the shade I showed her in a picture. She consulted me on what I wanted and gave her expert advice on what I should have done. Had a haircut today with Lori. She was very personal and professional and she gave me a great cut. I have been a hair stylist myself for 10 years and just recently moved to NC from NJ. I haven't had my hair cut anywhere but the salon I worked in (Pink Comb Studio, Nutley NJ) in 5 years. So going to a new salon was a bit scary for me. I recently had an appointment with Roxanne as well, and she is outstanding. And I'm pretty picky about stylists! I have changed stylists several times since the one I had for years moved out of town. Roxanne really listened to what I wanted, offered tips, gave me a couple of product samples, and was a pleasure to chat with throughout my appointment. She was meticulous, but didn't take forever. I was extremely pleased with my cut and will trust her next time to do some subtle highlights (evidently many stylists in town don't understand the word "subtle"!). The salon itself has a pleasant atmosphere: not too big, not too small, classy without being snobby, and everyone is friendly. The cost of services is consistent with other nice salons. read more

I'm writing this review because of a completely unacceptable experience that can't go unnoticed. It's unfair, unprofessional, and just cruel. My sister had an appointment with the owner, Kimberly, for a very basic color/balayage. After the service, she had performed a style of color that was not what she had asked for, and wanted it corrected. Kimberly told her afterward that what she wanted is not the color technique used, and that she was wrong. We know very well that that is incorrect from experience. My sister expressed her extreme dissatisfaction with having a service she did not ask for, and instead of compassion she was met with hostility making her feel small. In any other business setting if you're unsatisfied, the situation is corrected under any circumstance, and there is sincere apology and reconciliation; regardless of any perceived miscommunication. She was treated so horribly that she didn't even feel comfortable going back for a correction. This person left the salon shamed, worse than before, money wasted. Treating anyone as horribly as this for something that should absolutely have been corrected is just bad business, and inhumane. If you want a guaranteed good experience, I don't suggest trying this salon. read more
