*This review is NOT about Bryant Park. It is specifically about the public bathroom at the park.* Before our trip, my husband was looking up NY attractions on Atlas Obscura and came across the fancy bathroom at Bryant Park. I didn't recall this bathroom when I visited Bryant Park in 2016, but that is because it was installed in 2017. The morning we arrived in Manhattan, my husband and I met up with the lovely Marianne W, and we walked to Bryant Park. Needing to use the bathroom, it was the perfect opportunity to check out the fancy bathroom. We must have come at a good time because there wasn't much of a line up, maybe only a couple of people ahead of us, but the other times I passed the park, the lineup would be at least half a block long. There are bathroom attendants (I think they are city employees) managing the line and ensuring the bathroom is kept clean, and they do not accept tips -- there was a sign explicitly stating this, which was appreciated, because I wasn't sure. Clean, well-maintained, and nicely decorated, the Bryant Park bathroom is definitely one of the nicest public bathrooms I have been in. However, there was one minor oversight: in the stall, there was nowhere to place my coffee. There wasn't a little ledge and you couldn't place it on top of the toilet paper dispenser, so I had to put my coffee cup down on the floor, which was thankfully clean. This is a decent hotel tucked in Chelsea not far from Herald Square…read more There's a small outdoor space before you enter which is nice in the city. The check in desk is to the left after you enter the lobby and there's a small snack and soda concession area to the right. There's a nice lounge area in the lobby as well just past the elevators. I didn't have a chance to see the breakfast but it was this area as well. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. There's also a roof deck area with chairs and lounge areas as well which was nice.

Check in: Check in was fine, the front desk associate checked us in quickly with no issues. The guests in front of us were spending time at the desk arguing about putting a card on file, so that took longer than usual. But the associate handled it really well. The room: The room had a decent amount of space for a NYC hotel room, but no amenities whatsoever. There was no fridge or microwave, but i can deal with that as the room was just a place to sleep for me. The staff: This is where I knocked a few stars off for. while the front desk staff was wonderful, the housekeeping staff were terrible. I have stayed in many hotels here and haven't ever encountered staff like that. The housekeeping staff ignored the DND sign on the door twice. Which having a background in hotels previously, that is a big no. If the guest has paid for the room until checkout time and has a DND on the door, you don't knock and call the room instead. Both times that the DND was ignored, we were asleep and got woken up by it. When I answered the door there was no apology or anything, just them asking about housekeeping service. Staff should be trained better on this as It should be company policy that the DND doesn't get ignored.

He scanned our ticket and we boarded. The bus was pretty full, so we ended up sitting separately. The above head storage bins are kind of tight, so I had to take something out of my over stuffed backpack to manage to wiggle it in. While my purse sat on my lap. I liked the foot rest and the hook on the handle on the seat in front of me. Trash bags were hung here and there. Looks like they also provided small bottles of water for us, though we had to grab those ourselves. The electric plugs didn't seem to work, but perhaps the ubs plugs in the ceiling did. Our driver was a great communicator. He set expectations so we knew that we had a 20 min rest stop before arriving at Baltimore, and pointed out things to help us to pay attention and to get back to the right bus. He warned us that given current construction that we were sure to arrive later than what our tickets said, and gave us his best eta given the circumstances. Another passenger later commented that the bus bathroom was clean. We kind of ended up being dropped off on a brightly painted bridge in the middle of no where - perhaps on Maryland Ave?, by a bus stop. A short walk from Penn Station.

The transmission was bad, the alignment and suspension were shot, and the bathroom door did not latch. The suspension was so severely degraded that it audibly bottomed out on road bumps, causing motion sickness among multiple passengers. The transmission could not maintain speed on inclines, making the journey slow and stressful for everyone on board. The windshield wipers were so worn they could barely clear rain from the windshield (a serious safety hazard). Overhead storage bins would not latch, risking items falling on passengers, and the lighting inside most of them did not work. The spare tires were stored in a luggage compartment and had dangerously little tread remaining. We paid Rally/OurBus for what we were promised would be a newer luxury coach with ample luggage space and modern amenities. Instead, we got an old bus with no electrical outlets, damaged seat upholstery, and a bathroom that reeked before a single passenger had even used it. They sent us a vehicle that should not be in passenger service. When we sought a refund, we were bounced between Rally/OurBus (the broker) and All Aboard Express (the bus company), and now neither company will return our calls. Save yourself the headache and book elsewhere!

And if you don't feel like walking, there's a subway station (34th - Herald Square) just outside of the hotel. The staff was so friendly and welcoming during our stay. Loved how their mini-market had pre-made cocktails and lots of snacks and beverages. There was also a couple of food trucks just across the street and tons of restaurants too all around. The mattress was comfy, pillows just right, the room size was spacious given this is NYC and most hotel rooms are tiny so this one was great. We stayed in a king room with a city view and had a beautiful view of the Empire State Building. I also liked that there was also a microwave in the room. That's not always standard so I appreciated that. Although we didn't partake, they do have a bar on-site that is open I believe until 11pm (not sure if this is every day). My only complaint was that during cleaning hours in the morning, it sometimes look a long time for an elevator to arrive since the cleaning staffing was out in full force. But during other hours, they came quick and rode fast down or up. Definitely would recommend and I would come back and stay again.

I was charged three different amounts on three different cards: one charge at check-in, another on the card linked to my Marriott app, and another on the card I actually wanted to use. At no point during check-in did the front desk attendant ask which card I preferred they just swiped a card that I assumed would only be used for incidentals. The strangest part is that each card was charged a different amount, and the staff hasn't been able to clearly explain why. I've only been told to wait 5-10 business days for reversals and processing. The whole situation is very confusing and frustrating. 4/10. UPDATE: This issue was resolved through my banks, management was very helpful and responsive but weren't able to explain why mulitiple cards were charged and why they were charged different amounts. I appreciate the escalation, handling of this matter and response but I don't think I'd chose to stay here again.

This hotel is great location wise to both Bryant Park (Winter Village) as well as decent walking distance to both Fifth Ave and Times Square. Staff we interacted with were friendly especially those at the concierge desk with food recommendations and other questions. Also was a big plus to not hear much for city noise considering it's NYC. Onto the negatives though, during check-in and almost any time we were at the lobby it seemed understaffed for front desk causing extremely long wait for checking in. Parking wise I would advise against valet as it took forever for our car to be picked up and we were warned it would take 45mins-hour for our car to be retrieved. Although thankfully when checking out it took around 20 minutes because of our earlier than check-out time departure. Room wise they could use some updating and one of the lights did not work and the worst part was they did not even clean out the trash bin from the previous stay in the bathroom (see pictures). It made us question the quality of cleaning that was performed in general. Before returning to this property I would be checking other NYC Marriott properties for our next trip. The negatives took a little more focus than the positives unfortunately. The best things about here is its location and the concierge staff!
