This place was nice and conveniently located near Koreatown, where we spent most of our time. The staff was very kind, and they have a bag check for before and after checking out in case you want to do a little more shopping. The downstairs cafe is nice, and it does get packed in the lobby. Clean gender-neutral bathrooms. The room upstairs is nice, oddly positioned, but nice. There are no ceiling lights, only plug-in ones that are hard to move around the room. The water in the bathroom should run for about 5 minutes before even getting hot water. At night, my husband and I heard squeaking, so either it was a mouse or our imagination. read more

I recently stayed at the Ace Hotel New York with my young daughter, who has a heart condition. On the morning of our second day, our room was already 79 degrees at 8am. I went to the front desk, was told someone was working on fixing the air conditioning, and was offered a fan. We returned that evening to find the room had climbed to 87 degrees with no resolution in sight. We had no choice but to immediately check out and pay for a night at a neighboring hotel where the AC worked perfectly. The hotel's website explicitly advertises air conditioning as a room amenity with no disclaimers. What they don't tell you is that their building runs on an older 2-pipe system that is physically incapable of providing cooling during the heating season. This is a known issue, you can find multiple responses from their Director of Rooms on TripAdvisor acknowledging it, yet they continue to advertise AC without any disclosure. When I requested a refund for the night we were forced to leave, I was told it was too late because it was after 3pm. After escalating via their text system, they refunded the third night and some fees, but refused to refund the night that was actually uninhabitable. Their final response was essentially 'you're welcome to pursue any action you feel is appropriate.' If you are traveling with children or anyone with a health condition, book elsewhere. And if you do book here in spring, know that your room may have no ability to cool down regardless of what the thermostat says. read more

Lobby is lovely, but can get quite noisy in evening. The room was fine, the bed great, but very utilitarian, almost Spartan. There was no closet, just a rack made with metal pipes, and a big desk made of a patched-up board running along the headboard of the bed. The bathroom was so small, and the shower was put in the center with raised tiles around to make for a center basin to keep water from going all over the floor. The distance between the shower basin tiles and the wall was about five inches, and I stubbed my toes several times on the basin tiles. Luckily, I'm small, or I couldn't have gotten to the toilet, which was on the other side of the shower. The room was on the Broadway side, and it was very noisy at night. Stay on the 29th side if you can. Nice, big refrigerator, but no coffee pot, not even a cheap Keurig. Could do better. read more

The Ace lobby is gorgeous and in a good location of town. It's nice to have the juice bar and coffee shop downstairs. The staff is really trying but everything else is ehh. This is not a big box hotel so each room is different and quirky. It took 3 room moves (first room had no power, and the second room had water coming out of the ceiling), to get a room. The front desk was beyond frustrated themselves - I had the last room in the hotel so ultimately I was glad to have a bed to sleep in and it felt very safe. New York is special so you need to be flexible. Prices are crazy so if Ace is what your budget can afford, go for it. But take a deep breath and give it some patience. Enjoy the city! read more

Love that they upgraded us to a larger room! But our stay was fine at best. Pros: The best part is that the bathroom is huge and water pressure is good. There's also a desk so that's nice. Bed was also big. Limited hangers for clothes and space for luggage but it's NYC so that's pretty typical. Elevator was pretty fast compared to other hotels. Cons: The room was way too warm with no way to adjust the temp, so we would open the windows to cool it down at night (but opening the windows mean a lot of sound pollution, so you can't really leave it open all night). The lights are pretty dark. Room is carpeted. Everything is worn. This is the aesthetic but it feels not just industrial but also dirty and old and musty. The micro fridge is stocked to the brim so if you want to put something in there, good luck playing Tetris to make your leftovers fit. read more

I no longer stay at Ace New York after my wife and I watched a mouse scurry across our room late one summer night in 2025. The staff did relocate us promptly, but only to a significantly smaller room, and despite multiple follow-ups we were never offered any adjustment to our bill. This was especially disappointing because I'd stayed at Ace roughly a dozen times over the years. The vibe is stylish, the rooms are minimalist but comfortable, and the NoMad location is excellent. Poor follow-through from management soured what had once been my go-to hotel in Manhattan. I do still recommend Ace Hotel Brooklyn, however. It's a much newer construction and, presumably, less prone to rodent issues. read more

The customer service at this hotel is atrocious. The employees are so unbelievably rude and dismissive. I have never seen anything like it. They are very disorganized and speak to their guests like they are idiots. I experienced it myself and overheard a few other guests during my stay who had a similar experience. Lazy and rude staff. The hotel rooms are also atrocious. Filthy, dark, dingy, smelly, musty, in shambles. Simple things need to be replaced. This hotel management should be ashamed of themselves for their failure to train their employees properly and upkeep their hotel to bare minimum hospitality and cleanliness standards. Absolutely never staying there again and will be telling everyone I know to avoid it as well. read more

The rooms at the Ace Hotel Flatiron feel like some kind of cheap, nightmarish steampunk escape room. And not in a FUN way. My room had a strange pipe in the center of the room and it was not immediately obvious if it was functional or decorative, which is pretty bizarre. The entire space was underlit. In order to see anything in my suitcase, I needed to drag it under the one, dim light source in the center of the room. The shower in the bathroom was configured such that it was impossible to keep the water in the bathroom (not in the shower, in the actual bathroom--water would soak into the room's carpet each morning when I showered, no matter how I adjusted the shower curtain). There was also considerable mold in the bathroom. I don't expect much from NYC hotel rooms. It's a tough market and you're always juggling value vs location vs amenities, but the Ace just felt...gross and dim, like a tenement that was renovated as quickly as possible to flip into a hotel. I also think that the Ace's aesthetics (steampunk escape room, as mentioned) DON'T do it any favors. The small spaces seem crowded, decaying and dirty. The staff was absolutely lovely, however. This was a quick work trip where I just needed a place to crash each night, so I wasn't as put out as I ordinarily would be, but I will not be returning to the Ace Hotel Flatiron. read more

When I walked in to this very dark lobby I was surprised my parents chose this place to stay. The elevators were tiny and usually overcrowded. Hot. The rooms looked like the hotel I stayed in when I was in Russia in 1997. The AC was out for the entire hotel the whole time we were there. The tv in my room did not work at all. For the amount of money I was paying to stay there I cannot recommend it at all. The location is good but what an overall terrible experience. I will not be back. read more

I usually stay downtown but with dynamic pricing, the hotels I typically like were pricey for Spring, so I decided to give NYC's Ace a try as they had a good rate. I'd been to the lobby and to adjacent Stumptown to meet friends dozens of times but this was my first actual stay in the hotel. Overall, good. Lobby does get LOUD in the evenings/nights, almost club-like. But the room itself, despite me choosing a smaller one, was actually pretty sizeable for NYC standards. I didn't feel cramped at all. The hotel's style/aesthetic was great of course, but I might think again about this hotel, as the location is too close to touristy spots (Herald Sq, etc.) and the streets surrounding were packed with B&T kids out partying. Ugh. Oh, WiFi can be spotty, also ugh. read more

Stayed at The Ace for four nights last week in a Medium King room. I'll start with the pros-- great location. Super close to the subway. The staff were really friendly. The lobby can be pretty buzzy, especially in the evenings, but the hotel itself was pretty quiet. The room was pretty large by NYC standards, so we didn't feel on top of each other. The cons-- the rooms could use a little TLC. The paint and carpet have clearly seen better days. The bed was pretty low and very firm. Not really an issue for us, but definitely temper your expectations if you're expecting a luxurious bed situation. The bathroom doesn't have much ventilation and our shower did not drain well, we were often left showering in a puddle. The rooms are very dark and lack storage options. There wasn't a lot in terms of in room amenities. The thing that annoyed me most was a random $8 charge for a charity donation that was not disclosed at the time of booking (booked directly through The Ace website and paid in full in advance) nor was it mentioned at check in or check out. Just feels a bit shady, and I wouldn't have minded if they mentioned it at any point. Based on other reviews, looks like I'm not the only one who had that problem. And to end on a positive note-- they do offer bag storage. This was especially helpful since we were unable to check in early and hand some time sensitive things to get to that morning/afternoon. If they ever remodel and I'm looking for something in NoMad, I would consider staying here again. Otherwise, I'll keep staying at The Refinery or sacrifice some space and stay at the neighboring Made Hotel. read more

I came here for a staycation and really enjoyed my visit. **What I enjoyed** -The location is great. It's in close proximity to Ktown and Flatiron, and major transportation hubs so it was pretty convenient to travel around -We opted for a room which had a view facing the empire state building -Spacious room. Generally rooms in NYC are like sardines in a tin can, but I surprisingly found the room being able to comfortably fit two people -The lobby bar is pretty cool and has that vintage look and speakeasy feeling **What could be improved** - Poor Drainage. The shower and sink drain took forever to unclog! - Noise. Even on a higher floor, you may hear noise from either the street or elevator if you are a sensitive sleeper Overall, a great atmosphere and not a bad stay! read more

The rooms are sad and depressing. The design team that this place used should be fired. The lobby is perfectly fine, but the rooms are dark, dreary and depressing. Our room had exactly one light bulb hanging from the ceiling ! Horrible ! I love designing with the color black (I'm as Designer ), but there is a right and a wrong way to do it. I am 5'2 and I cannot sit on the toilet without my legs hitting the wall. Unless you like going to the bathroom sideways I would stay away from this place. There is no warm water. None. Run it for 10 min and still nada. No overhead light. Two side table lights only. Felt post apocalypse. Yeah it's a good location but I'm not giving stars for that. This was expensive and only slightly better than a youth hostel. Noise level a 10. That full lobby is not patrons. It's people getting coffee and enjoying free wifi so it looks busy but it's all a ruse. Just makes it hard for guests to enjoy. I'd like to complain in the strongest possible terms about our treatment today at the Ace Hotel in NYC. Having booked well in advance, my wife and I tried to check in today. We were told the only available room was one with bunk beds (!) instead of a normal bed. When we protested that we had a reservation for a standard room with a double bed, they merely laughed it off, saying that we were contractually required to accept whatever they had available. This was a hard one to rate because there are both positives and negatives to this place. When we got to our room on the first day, the tv did not work, and there was a radio playing. We tried calling front desk but the phone didn't work. Also the thermostat didn't work. We are not really ones to complain but did want a tv. so we simply asked for them to come look at tv. a guy came in and said we needed to connect it to the wifi. the cable tv to wifi? yeah i don't think so lol. we went back down and told them what the guy said and they said that was absolutely not the case and they would just change us rooms! We were happy. I will say, the lobby is dark BUT i think that is the vibe they are going for. They know it's dark and would obviously change the lighting if too many people were complaining. Many people sit in the lobby which makes it a good atmosphere! Lastly, the staff is very friendly and willing to help and even gave us a discount for the hassle . I'm giving it 3 stars simply due to the whole tv thing taking a whole day to fix and the thermostat not working. read more

There's no air conditioning. I recognize it's an old building but it is uncomfortably hot and humid in the rooms and even though there's a thermostat control, the air is not cold coming out. Contacted front desk this morning and was told something about a two pipe system and that there's no A/C? It's 80 degrees in here. Also, unrelated, but there was someone's half drunk iced coffee in the mini bar fridge when we arrived eew. Not impressed with the place based on how much we are paying per night. I have other notes but that's the main one for people considering staying here in the spring/summer. read more

I love the Ace hotel chain, but I am incredibly disappointed by the front desk staff at this location. Today when we checked in they denied the Chase Sapphire reserve free room upgrade and late checkout that should have been included already. I asked if there was any way to get 2 extra hours (2pm instead of noon) and he said it would be another $175, the cost for another night. This is not up to their normal standards. I've stayed at this Ace Hotel twice. Once was more than 10 years ago (2012?), and the last time was last weekend, when I visited NYC with a friend. Both times has been a trip with a friend, and both times I've stayed in their bunk bed room. Perfect for a friend trip, but I might be too old to spend the night on a bunk bed soon (do we age out of bunk beds or do I stop when I can't climb up anymore?). The room is tiny (which makes the bunks genius), with the sink in the room, and the shower and toilet in the bathroom. Would I want to stay in this room for a week? No. Was it totally fine for a 2-night stay? Absolutely. Ace hotels are always cool, and this one is no exception. There's a Stumptown coffeeshop in the lobby, a lobby bar, a popup wine bar (that was a surprise, and I wish I'd asked about it and tried it), and a fantastic restaurant attached (if you're interested in fantastic Austrian food and wine, definitely check it out - it's one of my favorite restaurants I've tried in recent years). The service is great (everyone is very friendly), and we never had to wait long for an elevator (something that often happens in NYC hotels, maybe because of the age of the buildings?). The location is great - right in the heart of NoMad, it's close to several subway stations, walkable to the Moynihan train station, and surrounded by attractions, restaurants, and bars. Not a bad place to stay in NYC, and we got a great deal on our stay (definitely keep an eye out for those good deals)! read more

I used to come here when I was younger and visiting from the west coast. Thought it's be a good idea to come stay here now as an adult and on business. I was wrong. Not sure if it's gone down hill a lot or what but I probably won't be coming back. Electrical outlets that don't work or spark when you plug something in. A "thermostat" that's hanging on for dear life (and doesn't work) by only a few wires. Iron also doesn't work, it leaked water all over my shirt. Etc etc. the only redeeming quality about the place is the bar... and that only gets you so far since it's also open to the public and you can just simply go there and NOT stay in the hotel. Lastly, I will say that after I complained a few times they finally checked on my room and the thermostats. It was so bad they didn't even know where the thermostat was supposed to be until I showed them. They eventually moved me to a different room on the last night and "comped" me w a drink ticket..... but that ticket apparently wasn't even good for a black iced coffee?! Like seriously wtf!? Anyway. Yeah, stay somewhere nicer and visit the bar and have the burger. You'll be far better off. Or don't. read more

The Ace is exactly what it claims to be: Ace!!! When we want to spend the night in Midtown, particularly if we are going to a show at the Garden, this is one of our first choices. The place simply exudes a vibe of hipness. Walk into the lobby and transport yourself to the essence of cool. The check in clerks at the front counter are unfailingly helpful. Don't hesitate to let them know if you're in town for a special event, they might upgrade your room. Speaking of rooms, for Manhattan they are very well sized. We had a medium room which had TONS of space. The room was interior so it did not have a street view, but the windows to the courtyard gave plenty of natural light. As with the rest of the room, the bathroom is quite spacious. But I would have to say that far and way the star of the room is the mattress. Wow! I don't think I've ever had a better night's sleep; it was impossibly comfy. Ace actually sells them, but prepare yourself for some sticker shock. Last but the certainly not least, the Lobby bar. The stories that space could tell. Saddle up to the bar, grab a drink and commence some of the best people watching you will do in your life. The Ace is an absolute recommend. read more

I am currently staying at the Ace Hotel if everywhere else wasn't booked up we would leave, and while the decor is undeniably stylish and appealing, that's where the positives end. Unfortunately, everything else about my experience was far from satisfactory. First off, the lighting is horrible, a single overhead light by the door and two weirdly placed lamps is all you get. The beds are set way too low to the ground, making it uncomfortable to get in and out of. The mattress was thin and hard, leaving me with a sore back after a few nights. The room layout was confusing and impractical, and I was particularly frustrated to find the fridge hidden in an instrument chest. It was stocked with overpriced items - $9 box water and small cans of soda, making it impossible to store any of my own items. Given that we are here for Thanksgiving, the freezing temperatures outside made the lack of proper heating in the room even more unbearable. The heat didn't work, and the bathroom was a complete disaster. It had no heat vent, making it feel like a freezer, and the windows wasn't sealed properly, letting in a draft that made the entire space uncomfortable. To add insult to injury, the room was cluttered with items for sale like bathrobes and vinyl records, yet there was no microwave in sight. When we ordered room service, which came with the typical upcharging, I expected at least decent food. We ordered two $25 burgers and fries, along with a chicken sandwich. Yet, they somehow managed to get the burger order wrong three times, despite it being a simple request for cheese and bacon. On a positive note, the location was great, and the staff was nice, And I really like how the adjoining businesses are interconnected with the hotel but honestly, I would not stay at the Ace Hotel again. The combination of uncomfortable accommodations and poor service overshadowed any charm the place might have had. read more

My room window faced another building (which is understandable since it's NY), so there's no hope for natural lights either. The ice machine broke during my stay and I had to go to the bar every night to ask for ice. 2 stars since the location is a few blocks from Koreatown and I could go to HMart and all my favorite Korean restaurants every day. read more

Below is the photo of the drink coupon they gave me after taking my reservation for an ADA compliant King room with a roll in shower, then giving me a room with a tub, then lying about the fact that they don't have King rooms with roll in showers, even though it says so on their website. So yeah. I had to book at a different hotel for my stay in New York. Oh and what others have said is true: the room is dark and smelly, and mine had a toilet that kept making noise every 3 minutes (leaky stopper, $1.50 to fix at Ace hardware, which is the only ace I'll be patronizing from now on) For the love of all that is holy don't stay here if you are disabled. A month or two ago we stayed at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn, a generic, lower-tier hôtel. How does our experience paying literally twice as much at the Ace compare? What did paying luxe rates get us? - The Ace threw in a non-negotiable extra $50 fee when we arrived, informing us that we should have read the fine print. This is unlike the discount place which just stated a price and billed that price. - The Inn had coffee and tea in the rooms. Ace has a coffee shop in the lobby and you're expected to purchase from them. Having a coffee shop in the lobby is not an excuse others use, though: in other places I've stayed with a restaurant on the first floor, they'd put up a separate beverage station for residents. - Forget coffee, the low-budget Inn has drinkable water. We were handed boxes of water when checking in and told that we should take them because the tap water at the Ace isn't good. - The Inn, like every other hôtel or cheap youth hostel I have ever stayed at, has a lobby where you can sit and read if you want a break from your room. The Ace closes its lobby after a certain hour, at which point security will escort you to the elevator to your room. I went back to the room and felt trapped in a way I'd never felt before at a place I paid to be. - This part of NYC is an extension of the gallery district, there are visual artists everywhere, and somehow the Ace is the only hôtel I've ever stayed in with no visual art. No offense to word artists like Jenny Holzer, but pithy phrases stenciled here and there isn't the same. [Ace does have one art display in a hallway on the way to the bagel shop. Consistent with its approach of treating residents as captive customers, there is a handy price list.] - Maybe there are little extras you get from staying at a luxe place? I missed them. The soap is commodity stuff, not even going so far as the usual cruelty-free or vegetarian tier you'd find at places who shoot for stylish. It's a playing-card themed hôtel, but they don't even have playing cards the way the shabby coffee shop down the street might. We paid on the way to twice what we'd paid for a place down the street, and got far less in exchange. Our recommendation: Stay at the generic place nearby and soak in the ambience at the Ace lobby during coffee shop hours. You'll basically be having the same experience as the residents, for several hundred dollars less. read more

Had a date here with someone about a month ago. I've read online this place was a good place to study when I was looking up places I can study for the CPA when the NYPL was closed. To be honest, don't think a hotel lobby/cafe/bar is ideal for that, but it is a surprisingly cozy place to hang out with someone. It feels like a cabin at some ski resort. So cozy and the lights are dim. Give me a hot cocoa and snow! I don't know how to ski so this visualization will not take you to the slopes. We met up on a Saturday and cocktails are not served until 2/3 pm. You can get wine and beer in the meantime. The drinks are not bad. To be honest, I am not sure how the cocktails really were because I was pretty drunk by the time they started serving them. However, one thing you cannot miss is the fried chicken sandwich. WOW! It is the second best fried chicken I had in NYC. No one can do better than Jacob's Pickle, but second is very high up there in my book of things. If you live around the area, check this place out. Get a cocktail and the chicken sandwich. Make it a moment. Heck! I may go there alone one of these days, I have not stopped thinking about that chicken sandwich! read more

Absolutely horrible. Booked a one night stay for $320. and the room we were given was impossible to breathe in- thick MILDEW STENCH. We were given another room where there was NO AIR CONDITIONING. Mind you, it was 99 degrees outside. We spoke to the front desk where he said the entire building was out. That was a complete lie because we were just in a room with air conditioning. We had no choice but to leave and drive all the way back home. They refused to refund us. If you're thinking about staying here, don't. There are hundreds of other hotels to stay at in nyc for the same price that actually care about their guests and have air conditioning. read more

Cool property. Lobby: perfect for digital nomads. Funky toilets and screening room downstairs. Real coffee from an artisanal coffee shop. There are fashion forward funky clothing stores and a popcorn / toy store in the same buildings. Solid high speed internet. All good Front desk: the staff sometimes seem...... overwhelmed. Came to midtown for a conference a couple of blocks away from this hotel. I had never heard of this hotel before. Having set the context for this review, I will say this is the best hotel I have stayed at in years. The room was great, the check in was smooth, the bar was hopping, and everything was just perfect. And yes, I will buy some of their merch. Demerit? The super hip Brooklyn front desk dude when I checked in definitely was not feeling customers over 40. I'm mixed on this place Location is great, staff is friendly. Bar has tasty drinks. Great bagel & coffee places attached. We got a 1 bedroom suite, which was HUGE. We needed space for 3 adults. When I made the reservation I was told the suite can accommodate 3 adults... yet there is only one king bed. Couch is not a sofa bed. You can get a rollaway, but there is a $40 daily charge. I was pretty irritated because I was already paying over $600 a night! Was also told we would have "an incredible view"-- it was just the street lol There were all kinds of weird problems/quirks with the room. Constantly had to call the front desk, where they would walk us through whatever fix was needed. Limited room service hours, which was surprising for NY. No vegan options, also surprising. I would give the hotel three stars but the hotel lobby bar experience four stars. The check-in staff was pretty down to business but the staff at the breakfast bar counter were especially friendly and hospitable (bravo!). Why three stars? I suppose the hipster, dark vibes of this hotel just doesn't do it for me. The lack of natural lighting paired with the dark decor made it feel a little suffocating. The room itself was very small (as to be expected for NYC) and clean. The bathroom was the star of the show. Albeit small, it was well-designed. I also appreciated the breakfast/bar drink token that we received upon check-in. The breakfast menu features some healthier options like oatmeal, avocado toast, coffee drinks and so on. For those who appreciate top notch bathroom amenities, I especially enjoyed there shampoo, conditioner and body wash. read more
