There's a fat line behind me so then I was trying to figure out what I wanted but felt bad because I didn't want to hold up the line. Next time, they could put a sign up for what's not available. It's a young feeling lunch place in the south end of Richmond. For those of us that live here, that's kinda nice. Young woman behind the counter lookin sassy and texting... I'm not so keen on that. Post- food review, well got a burger. It was okay but didn't have the aioli the description said it would. In any case, what I ate was delicious! My friend and I came for lunch. The ambiance is casual with plenty of indoor seating. We opted for outdoors because it was sunny. We ended up sharing an appetizer and an entree. It was a good thing we did, because the entree was huge; we could have easily split the meal with a third. The shaking beef had a heap of rice topped with a good amount of beef and was served with a salad. The beef was medium well, tender, juicy, and flavorful. Also, it had a rich sauce, and me and sauce on rice?...best friends. I'm glad it was served with salad because it was definitely a protein heavy meal. The lumpya was Shanghai style and served with garlic chili sauce. They were deep fried to crispy perfection. I was definitely pleased with this visit. I work right up the street, but just discovered this place yesterday. I came back today because it was so good. The portions are huge for the price. The food was incredible. I highly suggest the lemongrass chicken. I am currently eating the cobb salad (to-go) and it is great! The service is fast and friendly. I will be coming back weekly. read more

When I first came here, I was a little surprised because the location was by the marina in an industrial part of town. I shouldn't have judged the location because the pork banh mi's were delicious!! This sandwich had a lot of flavor and it had the right portion of meat and garnish. As much as I would like to give this place 5 stars, they messed up on my order and gave me a side of fries instead of a salad. I know I should've checked my order since it was to-go, but I was so excited to eat that I didn't think they would mess up :( However, my bf got the salad with the house dressing, and that did not disappoint! The vegetables were fresh and it was a combination of all my favorite veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, and more! Some places serve pathetic, tasteless salads, but this is a great option to pick as your side! Even the fries were crispy and seasoned to taste. What can I say about this place, it was amazing. The lumpia is to die for, I ordered the bacon, pastrami sandwich with loaded fries, Omg!!!! The girls ordered Cheese burgers with fries....very good. The portions are big so I'd say come hungry. They have a variety of foods for whatever you are feeling that day. I mostly get a salmon salad. Found this place while at the ribbon cutting for the new ferry service from Richmond to SF. Soooo goood. Fast service and great staff. I ordered the cob salad. It was supper fresh and tasty. I only wish I had asked about their dressings as they had a creamy cilantro dressing that folks kept picking up. My coworkers picked up the hot ham and cheese and the blue cheese burger. Really good rendition, as it wasn't a few bacon bits whipped into cream cheese; rather, it was a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and several strips of bacon crushed on top and liberally sprinkled with chives. It took me a month to go through all the menu items I wanted to try at the Bubbaloo. It's always good to have options and it was a nice addition to the area. Unfortunately, until recently, I stopped going there. First - after the kinks were worked out - there have been no changes to the menu. No new items to try, nothing so outstanding, has made it on the go to lunch spot list. Fried shrimp was one of my favorites - they never have it available anymore. I liked that they opened early and offered breakfast. But - most things on their breakfast menu is either too greasy or not cooked correctly. They use frozen patty hash browns - I can get those at any fast food place. Eggs are not cooked properly - brown eggs = the cooking source is too hot. I've been to the Bubbaloo 2 times in the last 6 months. It gets busy during lunch, so it had been my habit to call my order in, to save time. It seems like they don't bother to answer their phone anymore. If I can't through, I go elsewhere, not worth wasting my hour lunch waiting for it if I go in to order. When they do - I always seem to get the same girl who is oblivious. When I ask what the soup of the day is - she never knows. It takes her so long to reply, I can picture her turning around each time to look at the specials board. Specials! I can understand keeping your menu standard - but it would be nice to offer a special consistently to change it up! Why I think another year hiatus is coming up for me: I ordered a house salad (it comes with different vegetables) substituting romaine for spring mix. What I got - a Caesar salad. Next time, I order a Bubbaloo burger - no bun. I still got a bun on top of a mess of a burger. Gone were the fried leeks and mushrooms, I said no cheese - got cheese. read more

I have been here a couple of times and each time the food has been good. So far my favorite is the Banh Mi sandwich with marinated pork, it was excellent! I tried the Banh Mi with chicken and it was good too, but the pork is better. Their bread is great and the salad that accompanies the sandwich is simple and fresh. This is definitely a unique place to grab lunch. When you first walk in you can't help but notice the giant painting on the wall and list of items to find in the painting. The menu ranges from teriyaki chicken to various other dishes. I went for the teriyaki chicken with a salad and an order of loaded fries to share with a coworker. The service was quick and the chicken was good with a unique teriyaki marinade that I haven't had before. The loaded fries are enough for 3 people and covered with cheese, bacon and the usual goodness. You'll probably want to get here a bit before noon since this hidden place fills up pretty quickly. read more

They have many specialty items and a balance of everyday american cuisine items (burgers, wings, sandwiches, fries, oatmeal, eggs, bacon) Taste A+! I've had a burger (average) & fries, sandwich (was really messy but tasted good), shrimp (size and taste were great) & fries, the lemon grass chicken and pork chops (both taste great) over rice and salad. Both times the rice was under cooked and I was afraid to try their other "over rice" dish because of it. Well my coworkers were raving about the shaking beef over rice so I went in, let the server know I was interested but I had a dilemma w/the rice, the server was very proactive by suggesting a sample of the rice and if I didn't like it, they would but the beef over salad. She asked the cooks to pull my rice from the center and what do you know...the rice was perfect!! And the shaking beef is amazing! I sampled the tomato bisque while I waited, great! Girlfriend and I had lunch there today. We were pleased by the ambiance of this relatively new restaurant. We ordered the lumpia and Egg rolls for the appetizer. The lumpia was done to perfection, and paired well with the sauce. My girlfriend who is asian and has had all kinds of lumpia, said this was high on her list. The vegetable egg rolls (aka spring rolls) right? Were also done very well. Crispy, and tender... For our lunch we had the teriyaki chicken chicken sandwich and the shaking beef. The teriyaki chicken was juicy and tender, and the combination of the glaze and wasabi cream sauce was excellent! The shaking beef was good as well, lots of tender beef, marinated to perfection. With the veggies and rice it was a tasty combination. Looking forward to returning and trying some of their other dishes. Serving pretty much breakfast and lunch only... so weird hours...
