Best pancakes in Richmond! I also love their omelettes and bacon. This tiny family run restaurant is the best breakfast spot in the area. Could the hash browns use a tad more salt? Maybe, but is there is a salt shaker and homemade salsa on each table. And their pancakes have just a subtle hint of vanilla, their texture reminding me of the pancakes my mom used to cook, not those overly fluffy pancakes that you find at other places, ones that taste like the inside of a box. Cafe McBryde will forever be my family's special place. My child and I have been coming here since before Covid and the owner is such a sunny gal! Super nice, friendly, and always welcoming, making it a very cozy and homey type of feels. Even after long absences since my son moved schools she still remembered him each time we dropped in even though he was a few years older and a few feet taller! The food is still as good as it was a few years ago. I'm not really sure if the menu has changed today but at least it remains consistent and they kept rice and Gluten-Free bread as options. I love that they still carry gluten free bread!! My child had the GF French toast covered with bananas and syrup and he completely wiped that plate clean! I hope this place sticks around forever! Small breakfast and lunch spot with a cute homey feel. The single server handling all ordering, serving, clearing/cleaning tables and seating customers was remarkable- no wasted time or movements. She took care of everything and everyone like a pro. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, SFPD: McBride Omelette with a short (but very big) stack of pancakes, and a Vegan Scramble with hash browns. I should have asked if the scramble had tofu (which seems would make it a scramble vs. sautéed veggies) but the veggies were good. It just felt lacking for a meal. Everything else was good. I opted for fruit in lieu of home fries for an extra $1.50. very fresh, more than I expected. The wife gave a 2 thumbs up to her spinach omelette. This is the cutest little restaurant in Richmond Ca. The food was so good, packed with flavor and made with love. Our server was quick and polite! The restroom was clean and also cute and cozy. We were there on a Sunday after my son's game. We waited a little over 30 minutes before being seated, but once we were seated, everything moved along nicely. Just a typical small diner. I went here for brunch with my family. We ordered a waffle with eggs and bacon, a grilled cheese sandwich with fries, and the McBryde omelette. Waffle, bacon, and eggs were pretty standard. The grilled cheese was kind of sad, with not much cheese. The omelette felt more like scrambled eggs laid on top off avocados and bacon. The servers were nice. I feel like we might have felt better about everything if we didn't have to wait 40 minutes after ordering to get our food. I'm not sure if the wait is always this long. My husband and I enjoy walking to Cafe McBride to treat ourselves to a hearty breakfast, which is my husband's favorite meal. There is a Senior breakfast that filled us up thoroughly and was tasty. We added a pancake, which was as big as the plate, so we shared it. After 59 years of marriage, we know each other's appetite. I have been hoping up try this place for a while after hearing good reviews. We came in around brunch time. There were only two other people inside but soon the whole place filled up. They only had one server so service was a little slow but she did let us know she had called for backup and a while later a second server came. I had the Tito's waffle without the bananas it was delicious. I debated getting a side of bacon because it was $5 but I relented and I am so glad I did that bacon was thick and so good and worth the price. My husband had the club sandwich with onion rings. Decided to explore a new place for breakfast with the kids. My youngest found this cafe, not too far from home. The outside is a bit tired looking, but the inside was warm and welcoming. The wait staff equally warm and welcoming, and responsive. We ordered the banana waffle with a side of bacon, French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, the vegan scramble with hash browns and the egg white scramble with fruit. It all looked yummy and was served in good time. My daughter loved the waffle, saying it was fluffy and the bacon was cooked perfectly. The French toast had a hint of vanilla in the batter and the eggs were light. My oldest liked the vegan breakfast, which was sautéed veggies and jalapeño, but said the hash browns tasted under seasoned. I enjoyed the egg white scramble, loaded with sautéed veggies and the fruit cup was a nice mixture of brightly colored fresh fruit. The biggest critique for this place, bringing the rating down a peg, was that the veggies were a bit over cooked. You know, when your meal is predominantly fresh veg, it's important to see the colors bright and the texture just short of crisp. The unseasoned hash browns were probably just an oversight. This used to be our favorite go to local diner spot a few years ago. But as time went on and with every visit this restaurant has disappointed more and more. With every visit the staff and waitress have become increasingly uninviting. There have been multiple times where the location was not open during scheduled times of operation. And multiple times where the waitress becomes increasingly rude if the restaurant is busy. During our recent visit we were able to grab a table but I noticed every single other person afterwards received cold shoulder treatment. Rudely telling customers that staff was short due to call outs, wait time was long and closing is in an hour. Essentially telling people to get lost. With no other options like placing a togo order or welcoming them to wait and a thank you for their patience. We have been told this during previous visits as well! And not to mention during our last visit you could VERY CLEARLY hear the kitchen staff yelling (yes yelling!) and arguing with each other. The entire atmosphere has become extremely uncomfortable, unpleasant and uninviting. This spot used to be a pretty decent bang for your buck dining location compared to nearby diners like Dennys. But with items now being very overpriced for pretty mediocre food and horrible service you are much better off going to Dennys or any other nearby diner. Truly unfortunate what has happened to this location. read more
