My appointment was at 10:00 AM, but due to traffic I didn't arrive until 10:25. I felt awful, but Jaime was incredibly kind and understanding, and still took me in right away without any frustration. Once in the chair, everything went smoothly. She gave me a relaxing wash and a quick but thorough cut that turned out just how I wanted. She even shared helpful tips on how to maintain the style at home. Despite my late arrival, I was out by 11:18. The whole experience was efficient, pleasant, and professional. I booked Alex for a cut and perm. The cut was great. Alex listened to my needs and he was open to communicate in turns of aesthetics and stuff. I was surprised that my hair weren't shampooed at all during my service. I did a perm so he rinsed my hair a couple times.. but no shampoo before or after. The worst thing is their towel on the washing bed (the one that would contact with your neck). It smells (like dirty towels) and the location got contact with it felt itchy afterwards the smell from the dirty towel remains on my neck as well until I shower at home this should never happen at a four dollar sign salon. Besides that, the store was clean and quiet. My appointment was 1PM - 4 PM. Only two people were working at that time--the two owners. Tbh it was the first time I saw a hairdresser do everything himself--all the preparation, cut, perming, washing, etc. The limitation of staff resulted in lack of attentiveness. During the perm, the medicine touched my face, and overall the experience was not up to the standard. I really hope that they can improve because hair coco has lots of potentials. read more

Although I am not a fan of layers, she recommended that face framing layers would look good. I trusted her and was satisfied when I walked out of the salon. After going home and washing my hair I noticed the right side was shorter and uneven. The face framing on the right is choppy, shorter and not blended in well. I was so excited to find this place with such great reviews, as my previous lady retired and I've had bad luck finding a new salon. :( With the COVID-19 situation, the salon is currently taking 1 guest at a time so they can sanitize between appointments, so it may take some time to get in their books. I had the pleasure of getting a cut by Jamie, who I especially appreciated for not commenting on my horrendous hair situation from the last cut I got. She took the time to ask what I wanted and made sure I wouldn't regret the length I requested to chop off. She gave me a few suggestions and I left it in her hands. Though it was a little more pricy than what I usually pay for a cut, it was very much worth every penny. She made my mop hair turn into something I couldn't stop touching all day. She is also the blowout queen. Other salons give up using the hairdryer and resort to the flatiron because I have a lot of hair, but she used the blowdryer to finish and perfect the look. She suggested I do the c-curl perm, which I agreed to. She quoted me higher than what the website stated, but it may be because I have a lot more hair than most so it would be more time-consuming. The first pic was color I want and showed to Jamie. She told me it would take two bleach treatments and it would turned out like darker and yellower than the pic. But as I wash the hair, it would turn more like the color in the pic I showed. I agreed and let her do my hair. The second bleach was totally just smear bleach directly on my scalp that I felt heat and pain immediately. I was shacking through this processed so Jamie take me wash it off. I didn't get a chance to see how the bleach turned out since they day my hair directly on the washing chair after washed off bleach. It took 4 hours and how my hair look is on the second pic. NOTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THE COLOR I ASKED FOR!!!!!! They convinced me that the color look beautiful and charged me 450 DOLLAR for it!!! What's more to it is that my hair is completely damaged by them! There are clusters and scabs on my scalp and my hair stars to break in the middle! My advise to you: RUN AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!! read more

Getting my hair done in preparation for my wedding later this year and wanted to add some dimension to my black virgin asian hair with a balayage and some chocolate pieces to pop in an updo. I showed her a picture from pinterst and she used way too many foils and lightened my whole head and I look like a carrot top. My first go around I was basically orange. After one wash at home, I'm crying and asked her to fix the color. She toned it and made it a darker color, no dimensions and I'm back to black with a reddish tint. I spent $460 plus tips with a lot of hair damage to get my original hair color back. Insanely overpriced and she does not mention it at all. Very disappointed. read more

It was my second time there for a magic perm straightening. It turns out they didn't really straighten my hair. The natural curl was messed up and my hair has navel looked worse. The solution they used has also severely damaged my hair. My untrained friend did my magic perms before and it has never been so bad. I have hair about three feet long and the root are ( about three inches) is the most damaged part than the rest which has been processed much more than the root area. With that, they wanted me to go back there and spend much more money to get treatment for my hair to fix their permanent mistake. read more

When I walked in this hair salon for the first time today, I was so surprised at how all the staff paused what they were doing for a second just to say hello to me. The hair stylist, Jamie, provided me with snacks, bread, and chocolate and even made me a delicious latte while I waited for her to finish with a customer before me. The assistant who washed my hair was so nice as well. After shampoo and blow dry Jamie asked me what kind of hair cut I wanted and she patiently listened to what I had to say. During the middle of the haircut, she noticed that I was leaning more toward cutting a lot of my hair off because my hair was pretty damaged from previous bleaching and perms. One of the things she recommended was cutting off a good amount of hair and getting a c-curl perm on the ends so my hair would look more healthy. Throughout this whole process she explained patiently what she was doing and made sure I would not regret cutting off a lot of my hair. I am so glad I listened to her because she did an amazing job with my hair. To everyone wondering if you should try out Hair Coco, I assure you, once you come here, you will never want to go to another salon. Everyone is so friendly and talented and the service is amazing. I have been going to Alex for my haircut when he was still working at HairTalk down the street on Route 40. Needless to say, when I got a text from him about his new salon opening up, I jumped ship. Hair Coco is a delight. Upon walking in you will be greeted by the staff and offered coffee/water/tea. There is a sitting area on the left as you walk in stocked with chocolates and other sweets (they even have Ferrero Rocher!). The minimalist look gives the place an air of class. It definitely feels like walking into a salon in Asia. Your haircut also comes with a complimentary shampoo. Overall great place. Staff is friendly, courteous, and professional. I saw Jamie several times for basic root touch up and cut. Then about a year in, I decided to change my hair and do some highlights/balayage. Jamie charged 600$(!!!!) and it took six hours. I am not even exaggerating the time it took. I sat in the super uncomfortable wash chairs for so long waiting on her while she worked on other peoples hair. At the end, my hair looked like it was colored with box dye. I couldn't hide my dissatisfaction. It did not look like I had highlights at all. You could barely see any difference. She kept telling me it would lighten after a few washes but it really hasn't. read more

They require everyone to wear masks and they didn't even ask me to take off the mask to make sure the color/haircut fits me. Not professional. I got a wavy perm, while my friend got a c-curl perm and both ended up exactly the way we wanted it. I've been looking for this barber for the last six years of my life. Ever since moving to Baltimore, I've not found an adequate place to cut my Asian hair, let alone a good one. Asian hair is quite different from that of other ethnicities, and barbers inexperienced in cutting them have had obvious difficulty with mine. On many occasions I would leave an establishment a slightly diminished man. Either my hair was too short (despite my plaintive entreaties), resulting in a colic that stuck up in the back. Or I would end up with a glorified bowl cut that would require weeks to re-grow into the swoopy bangs I enjoy. Anyway. Hair Coco is the best place I've found for my male Asian hair. It is run by Korean people who are very competent and friendly. My girlfriend and I walked in and were immediately greeted and offered a wide assortment of snacks. The table in the waiting area was covered with the magazines you'd expect at any hair cutting establishment. But there was also chocolate (Ferraro Roche) and Asian snacks galore with a well-stocked tea and coffee selection in the corner. I got my hair washed and my hair cut, and it was the first time in years that I felt like I came out of a barbershop looking better than I came in. They even mostly fixed a mistake that a previous hair cutting mishap made elsewhere left behind. In sum, I will happily be driving the 40-odd minutes from Baltimore to get my hair cut here in the future. If you live closer and/or have Asian hair, you should not hesitate trying Hair Coco out. read more

This is my second time there, first time it was great, the hair stylist was super friendly and I had a super cute cut and perm. unfortunately this time I tried a different stylist and I won't be going back. I did a cut and magic perm, first of all the hair stylist didn't give me any suggestions after I repeatedly asked for advice, after the perm my hair looked dry and frizzy and she said it was because my hair was damaged prior to perm. I had had many magic perms before from different salons and this was definitely the worst. Now after two shampoos my hair looks frizzy and there is no style whatsoever. Got a men's haircut and downperm from Alex and was very satisfied. (FYI downperm is for asian men's side hair--prevents the hair from growing sideways and presses it downward.) Got a digital perm here and it turned out great!! All my friends were asking where I got it from. It took about 3 hours, but they give you amazing service, making sure you're comfortable and asking if you need anything. They provided a lot of snacks to munch on and give you coffee or tea to sip on. I took my kindle there and that definitely helped pass the time, so if you're getting a perm I would recommend taking a book to read. It wasn't crowded at all, which I appreciated due to COVID. There are two stylists here: Jamie and Alex. I had the pleasure of having Jamie cut my hair. I basically wanted to chop all of my hair off for the summer, about 10 inches off. But was a little nervous because I wanted to go shorter than I ever did before. Very BAD. I went there to dye my hair. While bleach ing my hair, they didn't do it correctly and made my scalp bleed... After I went home, my scalp hurt for a week. It was really painful. I have dyed my hair before, and this never happened. After I washed my hair for the first time after bleaching, the surface skin of my scalp fell off... My hair was damaged so much. Even with these terrible suffers, they didn't dye my hair evenly.... I called them for a solution for this, and they refused to answer. DO NOT COME. read more
