We have lived in Etown for nearly 14 years, and we had always ignored this place due to its location...we never really had a good experience in a strip-mall cafe. We kept hearing about the excellent burgers from our neighbor, though, so we decided to try it. Holy cow, we were impressed! This is the BEST burger I've eaten in my life, and that is no exaggeration. We ordered cheeseburgers with everything, and they came with hot, crispy fries. It was all delicious! Especially the sweet tea...just like my Mamaw's! If you're looking for a juicy, delicious burger, look no further! Meh...it's a hometown dive housed in a strip mall that's only open early in the day (don't even think about a late lunch...) staffed by middle-aged women working way too effing hard given what they're serving. The food is entirely blah, below real, normal, deli-style average. And has been since this place opened, back ten plus years ago (garden accessories in the dining area acknowledged), so it's clear that's not gonna change. Sandwiches served with crappy, usually stale, chips. Everything has a haphazard, temporary booth at the Peddler's Mall - kinda feel. But bless their hearts, they serve the hell out of it...every plate seems to turn up like it's a fresh, rush, on-point job...Even though what they're serving is pretty much pathetic grocery deli-style pre-sliced crap on grocery store bread, without salt, pepper, or seasoning. (Or, frankly, cooking of any kind.) Their "Reuben" (in quotes for a reason) is an offense to all delis, everywhere. Mama knows her Reubens, and this, sir, is no Reuben. I really wanted to like this place. The service was not friendly or professional. They told me to sit wherever but then "Oh! Not there, it's clean." Hmmmm...Do you want customers in the dirty area then? That's where I sat. The servers and kitchen crew could use some etiquette lessons. Talk about your weekend party elsewhere or at least where patrons cannot hear you. The food was nothing special. I ordered the Reuben because it's typically a flavorful sandwich and that was not the case. The meat was rubbery and the fries were over cooked in old oil. When I asked for bbq sauce (for my fries, not THAT outrageous), the server said it would be an additional charge. Really? Solid breakfast location. Not exactly an expansive menu like you see at some places, but they have the basics (eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, country fried steak, potatoes, etc). Everything tasted good; in fact, the eggs even tasted farm fresh. The staff was absolutely friendly as can be, and the service was quick. I was eating within 5 minutes of sitting down. The place is situated in a strip mall, but when you walk in it looks like a place out of American Pickers, with all the old push cars, bicycles, and wall art. Very nicely done. Lots of locals frequent here, which you can tell by the way the staff and patrons talk to one another. It's nice to see places like this still around. I just finished a relaxing breakfast at Bub's Cafe. It's my first time here, and I am so glad that I decided to try it. It was exactly what I needed today. Scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, onions, and a side of tomatoes; nothing fancy, but it was delicious. Further, it was very quickly delivered to my table, hot, & accurate. My server was attentive, keeping my coffee cup filled, without being a pest. The atmosphere was the really best thing for me: eating to the soft murmur of conversations around me, a soothing music occasionally accompanying a server from the kitchen; I even heard a waitress humming to herself once and when is the last time you've heard that?! All the while, enjoying my meal and looking around at the old-fashioned signs and toys that are liberally sprinkled about the walls and ceiling. The Women's Room was clean and supplied. Four-egg ham and cheese omelet can't be beat. Hash browns were crispy and cooked just right. The toast had been out of the toaster, plated and stacked on top of other plates of toast for a while. Don't bother with the coffee: not very good. We (2) were greeted by a hostess as soon as we sat down and she quickly brought our not-very-good coffee. Our waitress soon arrived to take our order. That's when the clock started. The stop button was punched more than 30 minutes later, and that was after a four-top was seated and served before us. Had to ask twice for ice water. We were never asked how our food was once it was served. This was our third visit, certainly not enough to qualify as a regular, who clearly get preferred service. Biscuit are usually my favorite part of the meal. I got to tell you I didn't eat it. I took a bite and it was gross. As far as E-town goes, this is the only "must-try" spot. Skip the chain garbage and eat at Bub's. First thing one should know: they're a breakfast-lunch only establishment. And they do both exceptionally well. The biscuits and gravy or pancakes are a must for breakfast. For lunch, go big with a burger and fries. The Frisco melt is my personal favorite; Bub's also does a mean BLT as well. Look, if you want something with mango salsa or something that will make Guy Fieri shove fistfuls of food in his giant maw, hit up Ruby Tuesdays or O'Charley's. Very limited hours. We stopped here for lunch during a weekday and it's noticeable that most patrons are regulars. Wife had the daily special for 6.95, a pork chop, real mashed potatoes, and baked apples. I had a mushroom Swiss burger. Everything tasted very good. Service was fine. This café is off the beaten path, but is worth traveling off the main road to find it. They are open early in the morning and typically close mid afternoon. If I remember correctly, they are closed on Sundays. The menu is simple, but they do the basics very well! My wife and I were doing the Bourbon Trail, and staying in ETown. When we travel, we have 1 rule.... NO chain restaurants when we eat. After a couple mornings of hotel continental breakfasts, on the morning we checked out, the desk clerk recomended Bubs! And am I ever glad she did! The breakfast menu isnt very big. I got the 4 egg Denver omlette, with hash browns, and my choice of toast or a biscuit. As my wife and I sat down, I noticed another diners plate of biscuits and gravy. So I went with a biscuit and had them put gravy on my omlette and my biscuit. And let me say now, Im not a tiny, skinny leg jean wearing guy... Im a big boy, 6', and just a tad north of 300.... They crack the egs individually for each order. Omlette, scramble, fried, or sunny side up... When the last time youve seen that in a restaurant?? Anyway, back to the gravy.... I LOVE biscuits and gravy, I f I knew how good it was, I would have tried to eat my weight in biscuits and gravy..... and probably exploded in the process. Seriously, its a small menu, they are open to like 3pm I think it is during the week, 11am on saturday, and closed on sunday. 1 reviewer gave them 1 star for being closed on Sunday.... really?? This review is from our third visit to Bub's. We are not going back. Bub's is loved for being the mom and pop with wonderful diner breakfast and lunch (we haven't done lunch.) It has a nostalgic decor, including the toy cars mentioned in other reviews. Bub's has its regulars - but if you are not a regular, tough. We waited 50 minutes for our omelets. The coffee has been yucky 2 of our 3 visits (this place should have excellent coffee, but in our experience, its awful.) We saw other tables getting food before us. Our waitress did not care. She clearly felt she was too busy to ask us how things were going or to bring the water we requested when we couldn't stand the coffee. A friend of ours eats at Bubs for breakfast daily during the work week, and they make her breakfast as soon as they see her car in the parking lot, she says. We are happy for her and the rest of the regulars who form the Bubs Cosa Nostra. But for us, who did not grow up here, and who want to eat sometime before noon, Bubs is now a big: "Nope!" read more

I honestly can't believe this place is open with the way they treated us our first and last time there. The cook was the issue. We had a nice waitress who took down our order correctly. She gave the cook the order and they sent her back out to let us know the ENTIRE TABLE HAS TO ORDER BREAKFAST OR LUNCH. UHHHH. What kind of policy is that? A really stupid one. Poor waitress looked abused. She said he's not in a good mood. Oh great...that's who I really want cooking my food. Wow, it was busy. I was kind of shocked at this little strip mall café being packed. The only thing I was not to thrilled about was the prices. The food was good, but not worth almost $8 a sandwich and over $1 for a drink. All they sell is burgers and salad not much choices. I had the patty melt, good rye toast and the cheese and onions complimented it well. The sandwich comes with fries and a piece of cantaloupe.
