The 'breakfast cook' was working lunch and went out two of the blandest, sickest looking chicken breasts on a plate and told the server it was a sandwich. This afternoon, a friend and I met for lunch at The Back Street Café in Muldraugh. We were seated in the small room near the kitchen -- just two tables -- and soon after ordering, we noticed a ROACH crawling up the wall beside us. I discreetly told our server. The server standing right next to her DIDN'T REACT AT ALL. No glance, no gasp, no concern. A few minutes later, someone from the back came and killed it. I said, "I hope this isn't a reflection of the kitchen." NO RESPONSE. We debated leaving but talked ourselves into staying. When the server came to address an issue with my meal, I admitted that the roach had turned my stomach. I also shared how surprised I was that no one had even acknowledged what had happened -- no apology, no reassurance, no "We're so sorry, it's an old building -- this isn't typical." Just silence. A shrug. I thought they might at least send a manager to speak with us. My friend asked if anyone had been notified. The waitress said she had told "Ms. Sue," but no one bothered to talk to us. I've always enjoyed this place in the past. But this wasn't just about the roach -- it was the complete lack of care or accountability. I won't be back. read more

Came for Schnitzel, however it's only on Thursday & Saturday. We stay menu was limited. Our waitress struggled food no silver ware or side dishes. Loaded baked potato was straight from the microwave. It was sent back bet it came a plain instead of loaded. The actual cod fried fish was good. We apparently didn't get the full memu as we noticed a table near us ordered breakfast. Breakfast looked great. After no mustard, non original A1 we asked for our ticket. It arrived with more apologies it was 2 separate tickets and a piece of pie had been added in error and was removed. We had just finished up a hike at Tioga Falls and wanted to find some lunch nearby. We pretty much just went for the first place we found on Yelp. Lucky for us, we stumbled across this super charming cafe! This place is so cute. It's right behind a hotel, and seems to attract tourists, as they also sell T-shirts. Everything from the service to the food was great, and they have everything from burgers, to pizza, and even seafood on their menu. We both kept it simple with a burger, and it did not disappoint. Party of 5 - came for the German food. We had high hopes but very disappointed. They were out of some of the sides. The mushroom gravy was congealed and not good. We waited a long time for our food and it came out cold - lukewarm warm. Even though we asked repeatedly for refills, our server said there were no clean glasses? Why not just put a small pitcher of water on the table? This was our first visit and we were not impressed. I literally made a yelp account because this was so bad. I wish I could comprehend how a business owner can let a restaurant run like this. Management has failed. A total of 3 employees were in the restaurant counting a cook the other 2 servers were brand new. The bar was closed and locked, and it took us 40 minutes to find that out and change our drinks. (Yes we had a girl who didn't have a drink for 40 minutes). We were in the restaurant for 3 hours and got our food 2 hours and 45 minutes into the wait. After the long wait for the food it was over cooked and the lights were shut off on us. We didn't get 20 mins to eat, half our food was not given to us, it was over cooked to shit. This hidden gem in Muldragh is something that should not be missed. The servers are very friendly and they go out of their way to lift your spirits. My favorite mals here are the country-style breakfasts... always plentiful servings with real homemade biscuits. This little gem is hidden behind the old Gold Vault Inn in Muldraugh... a local landmark. For dinner, I recommend the country fried steak or pork chop dinner. My husband wanted just 2 sides and, with a little friendly arguing ordered the green beans and Mac & Cheese for his sides. The Jaeger schnitzel was tender and crispy, but the "mushroom gravy" was disappointing. The gravy was just brown gravy from a mix with no seasoning, or flavor, and the mushrooms were barely cooked. It felt thrown together. The potato salad lacked in flavor, but the red cabbage & the cucumber salad were both quite good. My hubby's green beans were out of the can and the Mac & Cheese tasted out of the box, he wouldn't eat it. We never got the rolls. I was not a fan of this one. The food was bland. They seemed to not really care about offering us service. The waitress seemed stressed and over tasked even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Our last night here it was after closing time but the doors were still open because a family was finishing their dinner, I asked if they'd mind if my husband and I could stop for a beer and they were totally cool with it and we all catted it up for a few. There are really only two reasons I can't give a higher review. Second morning we were here that waitress wasn't the best and it wasn't full in there. But Hillary was completely amazing the two days she was our waitress. She really seems to enjoy her job and getting to know the people here. Husband ordered the Schnitzel dinner. His mac and cheese side and green beans were both ice cold. Green beans tasted like they were right out of the can, no seasoning. Mac and cheese was dry and had no cheese flavor. Spatzle side was ok but also cold. The schnitzel was cold and very tough to cut through. His dinner roll that also came with meal he couldn't even stick his fork in because it was hard as a rock. I tried to order a pizza on their menu which was why we went in the first place and informed they weren't making pizzas. Ordered Greek salad with creamy Greek dressing but was informed when the salad was ready they were out of that dressing. Would have ordered something else. Never saw the waitress after food was delivered, she never came and asked how everything was. Had to track her down for the check. Our waitress was very sweet, but the food wasn't good at all. My catfish sandwich was dry (no condiments that it was supposed to come with), and half the size of any catfish I've ever seen (definitely smaller then the bread). It was so small that one of my friends offered me some of their Cod. Their Cod was mushy. I love sweets and ordered some lemon cake thinking there's no way I could go wrong there.... but I was wrong. My friend and I decided to try a local restaurant to show support. We had been told how good it is. We arrived at 7:50, not realizing they close at 8:00. We order our food and a beer. Our meal was cold, bland and sucked. The waitresses started pacing our table and turned out lights. We ask what time they close, they said 8:00, but no worries, you are fine. Half way through the meal, we decide we can't eat any more of it and just pay our ticket and try to finish up our beer. The waitress comes over and says to us, our manager is on the phone and wants to speak to you. The manager proceeds to tell us the waitresses are under age and need to leave, so we need to finish up and leave too. Mind you, we weren't there long. My friend informs her that she had underage servers, serving us alcohol, gave us shitty food and service, then asks us to leave... we will be sure to let others know NOT to give business to this place anymore, including all our military friends that are their biggest supporters. The place is unique and the outside is very appealing with outdoor seating as well. Immediately greeted and sat in a clean dining area. The decor is stunning. The waitresses were extremely attentive.
