I,ve been doing business with Buchanan's for twenty yrs. Long before Yelp was around so I wanted to chime in. I first came to Robert with an idea of 40 spoke 3" drop ctr. x 16"Harley wheels for a project. But I wanted thicker than stock stainless and chrome spokes. Robert walked me through drilling out the hub and rim to accommodate custom nipples and I sent down the parts to his shop and he did the rest, including all the re-chroming. They're one-off wheels. I've never seen a Harley with them. NO, not 80 spoke fatties from the after market. Bob and his crew worked with me when I was breaking 2-3 rear chrome spokes a year, I run cross country every yr. Robert suggested and replaced the rear with stainless spokes. 175k miles later , still running!! Anyway, I can't say enough about the fine craftsmanship, accommodations, creativity and customer service I have received through the years. Everything is Ol School and done on time as promised. Hands down top-notch quality service. Took it to the Harley dealership to get my rim fix, it stayed there Untouched for almost 2 weeks without even giving me a call. When I called they said they were still waiting on the estimate. I decided to take matters into my own hands so I found a place "Buchanan's" They asked me to bring in the rim, I took it apart and headed to the shop with my rim. Picked up some rims for my dad for his classic car. They were easy to find and great customer service. Even loaded them into my car for me.

I was a customer for 20 years. They do great wheels but...Never again. All was fine until they didn't get the job done on time. They missed their deadline by a week. All the parts were sitting in their shop. They just messed up. This led to expedited next day shipping costs, which they caused because an employee messed it up. They refused to make it right and charged me $300 in shipping to get my wheels in time for the race. Plus the parts and labor to do the wheels. No tossing in the parts or labor as an attempt to make their mistake hurt less. Mr Buchanan served his customers right and didn't push their mistakes into his customers wallets. The same can't be said for his sons now running the shop. His gifts skipped this generation. All is great until they make a mistake and it requires them to touch their wallet to make it right. read more

I bought some spokes from eBay and took them along with my freshly powder coated rims and hubs to a different place to get them put together and trued. They were old rims so I told them if they had any problems with them to let me know and I will get new rims. A month later they called me to let me know they were finished so I didn't think there was any problems getting them done. Wrong! When I put them on and went for a ride it was like riding one of those up and down kitty rides you use to see in front of grocery stores for $.25 when I was a kid. Not exaggerating in the least. Over 1200 bucks just for labor and cost of powder coat and spokes down the drain. Not only that, but I live at the beach and the spokes started to get a light coat of rust after only two weeks. So I bought New rims and took them to Buchanans along with my hubs and had them make new stainless steel spokes and put them together. They came out absolutely amazing! It's been two years and they are still as beautiful as the day they put them together. Still True as true can be. It was for my sidecar motorcycle so it has three wheels and a spare. Well worth it. I'm in the process of restoring a motorcycle, and was in need of having my wheels restored or replaced. They advised me that the cost of restoring the originals would be very expensive, but they would do it. They suggested that replacement rims would be more cost effective in the long run. I located some Italian rims and sent them to Buchanans for lacing, truing and balancing along with mounting my tires. Mind you, this is after some 20 or more emails to Kennie Buchanan, which he patiently answered every one of them. His knowledge and expertise convinced me that they would be the company to send my wheels to. I just received my wheels back yesterday, and I was extremely pleased with the finished product. up to over $350 per wheel. I was greeted at the front by a young man who told me he was new. He acted so confused when I explain to him that I brought my hubs and rims I literally had to ask him are you OK?. Kenny then try to explain to me his rate per hour and the cost of building the spokes. I get it, labor is hard to come by and quality workmanship is going to cost you. But quoting me one price over the phone and when I bring my parts in to have done and the significant difference in price is so unreasonable and frustrating I have no choice but to give them a bad review. This is poor business in my humble opinion. They were asked to lace my wheels and true my rims that's it which I thought $149 per wheel was sufficient. But boy was I surprised. Poor business practices, and the bait and switch was unacceptable. I poor Customer Service, incorrect price quotes, Bedon switch, all reasons for a negative review. Not good as an understatement. From what I read they have a lot of one stars. Buyer beware. read more

Purchased Excel shouldered rims and stainless steel spokes for my 1976 Suzuki GT550 Cafe project. Laced the front stock hub with no issues, however struggled with the rear. Contacted Kennie and he said send it to him and he would set it up - laced and trued at NO CHARGE! He had it dead on straight in a couple of weeks. Outstanding service!! It's crazy because I have been dealing w them since the early 1990's and had pretty great luck for a family run business that does things the right way and makes motorcycle dreams happen for so many. Yes the pricing a bit high if you're used to the whole buying crap for nothing on amazon life we lead now.... They have some really nice products at Buchanan and a super knowledgeable staff which at times I have needed and I know my way around motorcycles pretty well. Extremely fast service with custom projects, it's good to support family businesses with American made products. Recently had a rim drilled to fit a Royal Enfield hub, rim sent had a Japanese lacing pattern, not European. They were kind enough to exchange the rim to fit the original lacing pattern (must specify during order). A new valve stem hole was drilled to fit new pattern, original hole was plugged, they did a great job and is not noticeable at all. Turn-around time was very quick and took care of return shipping. read more

A spoke got loose and broke away on my Super Ténéré and after calling around for a single spoke(Yamaha sells in sets only( a set cost between $70 and 80),all leads pointed out to Buchanan. I went there with my mangled spoke and incredibly enough they crafted one for a whooping $2.20The young( bearded )man, did not get his name, was really kind to measure everything from the wheel outside. I am a restorer of vintage British motorcycles and I recently sent a rim and hub to Buchanans to be spoked with specific written instructions not to polish out the markings on the rare Dunlop alloy rim that I included with the job. I paid over $500 dollars for this rim! The job was sent back to me completed with just about all the markings on the rim polished out! Interestingly the receipt for the job also listed the instructions not to polish out the markings,which were ignored.. The staff and the owner seemed very defensive and argumentative about their screw up.The result now is that I am out the $500 I paid for the rim plus trying to find another one with the correct spoking pattern.I definetly would not do business with this company again especially with a job that is more than routine- they just don't give a hoot and do not stand behind there work. Ordered a spoke set from Buchanan's on Sunday. Angel called me on Tuesday to discuss shipping options. I told Angel I need them before this weekend so we decide to use 2-day express shipping. She guaranteed me that it would ship out Tuesday and arrive today. No package today so I send her an email asking for a tracking number. She stated it wasn't even going to be shipped out until today. I have tours booked for this weekend and now I have to scramble to find a company that can ship them here overnight so I don't have to cancel the tours. Angel did apologize for any inconvenience, but followed it up with "I don't remember talking to you, I talk to many people everyday from all over the globe". Nice! She then said they would be happy to send it overnight to me for $104.29. I was already paying almost $50 for 2-day shipping. They should have offered to just split the difference and send it overnight. Oh well. read more
