I came in tonight and got a bottle of wine and a pizza with my friends. They corked the bottle of wine because I only had one glass of the bottle I chose. Then I went into the Arcade next-door for the farmers market. Someone from Buckeye Winery saw me in the arcade next-door and told me I could not have my wine with me and confiscated it from me. I gave it back because I was not trying to cause a scene, but that is ridiculous.... Not being allowed to carry the bottle of wine you bought. They took my purchased bottle from me. read more

Awesome everything. Food, wine, and service. The place was not very big, yet the location is awesome. The decorations were cute and cozy, making you feel comfortable and at home. In town for a concert at the Midland Theatre....Toto. This gem is within walking distance of parking and the theatre. It appears to be female run if not female owned. We started with a wine flight. Sweet Summertime (strawberry), Celebration (White Zinfandel), Pink (Pink Moscato) and Farmers Daughter (sweet white). I got a Chicken Pepperoni Parmesan Panini which consisted of chicken breast, pepperoni, marinara sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. I got the chips and pickle chips for my sides. My man got one of his normal items when we eat out, a personal pizza with pepperoni. For dessert we had a wine slushy, cotton candy if I remember correctly. It was very sweet and delicious. The perfect end to a great meal...now off to the show. We will definitely be back to see another show, food and wine. read more

We had an 20 minutes in Newark the other day, so we stopped in the Buckeye Winery. First time in and it had a store/bar atmosphere. We sat at the bar and sampled 5 different wines. Our favorite though was the Cotton Candy slushie. It was very tasty! We need to return when we have more time and get a bite to eat. The pizza looked good. read more

One of my favorite places to go! They have the best wine slushees and I love the pickle pizza and roasted red pepper dip! The staff is always fantastic and you can bring your family which is great for me since I have younger children. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing. The bloody Mary's are also delicious as well!! read more

I enjoyed my first visit at the Buckeye Winery tonight with my parents. My mom ordered a sangria that was sweet and tasty. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio. It was a passable white table wine, but it's not really a Pinot Grigio in color, aroma, or flavor. Later, I ordered a peach wine slushie that was fun and sweet and yummy. We also had a cheese pizza with regular crust that was very tasty and a soft pretzel with beer cheese. The cheese tasted like sauce for macaroni and cheese; it wasn't my favorite but we ate it. We sat outside and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Our server was nice and attentive without being overbearing. I will probably return in the future to enjoy a leisurely evening on the sidewalk seating. read more

We were on our way to Columbus. We stopped to find this winery. Let me tell you the staff was absolutely amazing. We tried all of the wines we wanted. Some for me were just alright and others were fantastic. I like dry red and white wines. However they have a pina coloda winery. It was actually pretty good. I purchased a bottle of this. Nice little wine bar in downtown Newark, attended a painting event here which included 2 drinks. I arrived early did a wine tasting so I could select my favorite . I had to try the wine slushy which was super delicious. I had the watermelon and strawberry. My friend also had a gluten free pizza which she said was delicious. Street parking and they do have outdoor seating. The band for the evening was doing a sound check and sounded great while I was painting. Highly recommend buckeye winery. read more

I've been to a lot of wineries and I would put Buckeye Winery in the category of wineries that make good-tasting wine, fun open-to-all atmosphere, and feels more like a cafe than a winery. (Bonus points for selling wine-making supplies!) I think the only downside to this winery is that it doesn't feel like a traditional winery. But I don't think that's their intention either. You walk in and it's a gift shop/urban wine bar. Plenty of seating, lots of wine to choose from, and the bartenders are friendly and seem to be all family and friends. I appreciate this type of winery for what it is. There is nothing prestigious or pretentious about the wines here. You know what you're getting. I didn't taste a thing I didn't like here. I appreciate the idea of wine slushies too if I'm in the mood! Live music? They have it here on select weekend nights! If this is the type of place you're looking to drink wine with your friends or significant other, I am sure you'll enjoy yourself here. For a small downtown Newark watering hole, Buckeye Winery is the perfect place for a girls night out. Is it the best wine I've ever had? Honestly, no. But it's not too shabby either. You can try a little bit of everything to find one you like without breaking the bank which you cannot do at other places. And the staff is super friendly and laid back. Two words: Wine. Slushes. We had the raspberry slush at the Newark Food Truck Festival and I cannot get it out of my head. This was the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day. I don't usually like wine but this was the perfect amount of sweet and smooth and could definitely get a girl in trouble! We also tried a glass of watermelon wine which was good but doesn't even hold a candle to the raspberry. They have a great selection and I can't wait to try some more! read more

My husband and I stopped in to sample some local (Ohio) wines. Being fans of mostly reds we sampled 4 varieties from the surprisingly long list. While the Merlot and Cabernet-Shiraz lacked a bit, the full Cabernet and their Luna Rosa were quite good and we ended up getting a full glass of the Luna Rosa with our late lunch. We had their margherita pizza (only $10 for a 12" pizza) and took a couple of bottles of Cabernet back with us. We plan on returning to the Winery with family that lives in the Columbus area! read more

My first visit, and no one acknowledged my entrance. Two people at the cash register looked when I walked in, but didn't greet me or even offer a smile. Another person apparently doing inventory, again walked right past me as I was walking in, and again no greeting, no smile. Had to ask for assistance. I did get what I went for, and the wine was good. Now my second visit. Again no one greeted me or asked if I needed assistance. This place is not a welcoming place at all. Went to the "Wine Down Wednesday" at Buckeye Winery last night and had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday! They have great wines and beers. Award winning pizzas and the friendliest owners and waitresses you will find anywhere. They also had a DJ that played jazz music that was very good and two vendors selling their photos and beverages. The place was full most of the time from 5:30 to 8:30 but you never had to wait for service. Great place to frequent on the square of Newark, Ohio! Try It! A Newark resident! read more

From a red wine-taster's perspective the wine was not very good. Each taste I had lacked age and balance. They were almost still bubbly, sort of like a wine flavored aklaseltzer. Each wine tasted similar to all of the others. The service was not up-to-par for a winery with a decent tasting room.. I've had far better professional experiences. Each wine-tender (there were two in a room of about 30 people) seemed more occupied with eating left over cheese and crackers and cleaning up for the night rather than taking the time to pour a taste of wine, describe it and guide you through their wines. Besides the reds, I tried a couple whites, both with ambiguous names but I'm guessing were a riesling and a vidal mix, both of which were loaded with sugar. This was ashame considering the grape used for the wines actually had a nice flavor. I also tried white chocolate port. This taste made me gag. It was horrendous, and I stopped tasting at that point. I consider myself an experienced wine drinker and have visited many wineries throughout Ohio, but I am by no means a wine snob. I am not a stranger to $4.99 wine or 2-buck chuck if you know what I mean. I would dodge this place unless you are drinking beer as reviewed previously. read more
