I made an appointment here as a new patient for a check-up and because I was experiencing extreme pain in/from one of my teeth. So, I go in for the X-rays where the nurse tells me to put my front teeth in the groove. I do so. She tells me again. I tell her they're in there. She tells me again. I tell her again. She finally comes over and bodily tries to move me which causes some pain because, guess what, they were in the groove and moving me pushed them out by force. Well, then comes the pre-exam with the nurse who proceeds to jam the smaller scan-gun against the appliance in my mouth (jammed against my teeth). She does this several times before allowing the clip on plastic O-ring to fall partially into my mouth. Trust me, the fun is only just getting started. She asks me if I'm experiencing pain and I said I was and had been in constant pain for days. Finally, here comes Doctor Bodner who rolls through with his exam. Well, apparently he can see a cavity, but "nothing that should be causing pain." Well, I don't know what to tell you, because I'm in pain. Now mind you, I had to point to the tooth on the outside, point to it with my finger on the inside, then take off my glasses and point at it with their arm, then point out it with my tongue because he just cant seem to locate the tooth I'm talking about that would be in pain. Well, he refers me to a periodontist and sends me on my way...no treatment for the pain, no prescription for pain medication...nothing.
Well. Periodontist can't see me for another two weeks and the pain is getting worse by the hour. Remember that scene in Castaway when Tom Hanks was so desperate for relief he broke his own tooth out with an ice skate? Think that level of pain. So we call back explaining that I'm in agonizing pain to the point where I can't sleep at night. We tell them that OTC stuff just isn't cutting it because I have the MC1R variant gene which means I have an unusually high tolerance for anesthetics and painkillers. I explained that I was taking some leftover Hydrocodone from my last dentist and even that was only barely taking the edge off. So, the receptionist schedules an emergency visit and advises us to arrive half an hour early for them to administer the correct dosage for treatment.
Go in. Sit in the treatment room for the entire half hour staring at the paint dry. Doctor Bodner comes in and literally says the exact same thing he said the first time. He sees a cavity, but it shouldn't be causing pain, he has no explanation for why there is pain, I should go see the periodontist. I explain AGAIN that I'm in agonizing pain (and haven't slept for 5 days) he does a test to see if it's cold-induced pain (which I already told him it was 24/7 pain). He repeats about not knowing why there would be pain and to go to the periodontist. I explain that the appointment with them is still a week and a half away and I'm in pain now. I kid you not, this "DOCTOR" tells me to go home, take two ibuprofen and an aspirin and I'll be right as rain. I explain AGAIN about my tolerance and that I can take between 30 and 50 ibuprofen a day with no noticeable effect. He proceeds to tell me that doing that isn't good for my stomach but acts like he doesn't want to prescribe anything else. I tell him even hydrocodone is barely cutting it to which he snippily replies "Well, I'm not prescribing you hydrocodone!" as if I was a junkie looking for a fix rather than a patient who's twice come to him in agony. I explain it doesn't have to be hydrocodone, but it needs to be something stronger than an OTC medicine that hasn't been doing anything to alleviate my pan thus far. But again, he told me to just take two ibuprofen and an aspirin because he's not prescribing me ANYTHING and the only other thing he could recommend is that he could "call in" a dental surgeon to do an extraction. Keep in mind I thought that's what the appointment was for and was why the front desk told me I'd be numbed out appropriately.
If you're in pain and looking for relief, I'd advise you to look anywhere other than here. Heck if you're looking for anything other than a cleaning I'd look somewhere else. These people don't seem to do anything. Need a root canal? Get referred somewhere else. Need an extraction? Get referred somewhere else. Need receding gums dealt with? Get referred somewhere else. Come to them in pain? Get treated like a junkie and told to go home and take two aspirin. Completely unprofessional quacks masquerading as doctors content to send you home with a band-aid on your severed limb. read more
