I had a dog who was attacked by 2 huge dogs a couple of years ago. My usual vet was just too busy to see her. In my panic I stopped at every vet on the way to the emergency clinic in Sumner. One place wouldn't even open their door for us. Buckley Vet had her come right in. We've brought all of our dogs there since then. Dr. Shaman is fantastic. Buckley Vet has been pretty good to me and taking care of my pack of Boston Terriers. Prices are a little bit high but I'm ok paying because I feel I get better service. I also like how I can keep money on their books so when I have to send a friend or family member in to handle drop offs/pick ups there's no issues with paying or I can just deposit money to cover the surgery before hand. I've done shots, wellness checks, nail trims, spay, neuter, anal gland expression, and one euthanasia. They also did wellness checks throughout the pregnancy of one of my dogs and assisted in getting help for a 5day old puppy who was having eye issues. The team was more than supportive when one of my dogs was diagnosed with cancer. They worked with me to get all the information needed to make an informed decision. At this time of my dogs illness it was best to offer thorough comfort care instead of spending unknown amounts of money for a 5% chance of remission. Wait times for an appointment/surgery can take time but they usually have good availability for vet techs to handle simple things like nail trims. read more

Dr Lauren diagnosed and started treatments for my dog. After starting the cushings meds a followup test was needed to see when his chemistry is with the new meds. This was to be a full day stay for him. His cushings causes him to drink excessive and have a constant nervous pant. I dropped him off for his day and provided a crate matt, his blanket, his 9am food allowance and 2 treats. ​I also requested his nails be done since he was there all day and possible work a few at a time to help his stress stay low. When I picked him that evening I was handed a trash bag of urine soaked bedding, his full food and treats, and he was a wet mess to travel in my car. AND they didn't trim any nails. It appears he was only given attention when a few seconds of test gathering was needed. I don't believe he was even allowed out of the cage. Next visit they needed urine. I pulled in and left him in car. I explained he was going to pee as soon as his feet hit the grass and I could get a stressless sample for them if they could provide a container. The little Jr vet up front who answers the phone informed me that's not how they do business and besides they may want a sterile sample. I informed her my dogs have been providing me urine samples longer than she has been on mother earth. She pouts off to the back and 2 techs show up to get a sample when I let him out of the car. Next visit is a shorter stay for testing and i ask his hair loss on tail is cushing related or something we can address. When i picked him up they didnt look at his hair loss. I did get a vet call about his test results and all was great. I asked when i should see improvements and no direct answers were given. Just some hummimg and hawing. Between med prices at $200 monthly and testing at $325 minimum easily had me over $2k in fees and the dog is still exactly as he was. I have since relocated for my own health reasons and we are starting over. There are numerous vets in this office and i have only seen dr lauren once on our new patient visit. I have spoken twice with her on the phone. Communication is weak. The last vet that called and said all was great come back in 6 months. 6 weeks later dr lauren is calling saying it time for the 6 week test not 6 months. This is an unexpected expense out of nowhere and she even said we can probably reduce the dose. He has NEVER improved. Dr Lauren is a good vet. Communication can improve some and unattended and unfed animals should be looked into. And the receptionist needs to start being a little nicer. read more

I loved Cascade vet, who I guess merged with this place and now they are wayyy more expensive. Also they didn't even call me back with test results and check out seems to be confused with every answer to a question. Leaves you feeling confused with what you're given. I'm very skeptical whenever taking my animals to the vet's because I feel like the auto industry, which I personally am in, is more in the business of making money than it is actually helping people. Let me start by saying the place really holds up to its reviews ... from the office staff to the veterinarian herself I felt that my animal was significant and cared for. I was only given recommendations for things that needed to be done and honest answers when questioning how this would affect his care and what benefit they would be to figuring out the cause of the problem. I've never had a place give me an honest answer about not doing a test because of its cost them at the likelihood to upkeep the treatment would be but more realistic approach of treating the symptoms that he'll likely always have due to his bad skin allergies. I brought my dog here for a spay, which is a very routine procedure. They were recommended to me by someone in the family so I had assumed that my dog would be safe. She was in perfectly good health when brought in. When I went to pick her up, they had said that she had a bad response to the medications that made her throw up, but that she was doing better and could be taken home. I then waited close to 30 minutes because she would not get up out of the kennel, I ended up having to carry her to my car. Then, after bringing her home, I contacted the vet again because my dog was not moving at all. She would lay down and whine and would not even lift her head. They again, told me it was nothing to be worried about, it was just the meds wearing off and to just keep an eye on her. Fast forward to a few hours later, my dog was bleeding out on my living room floor from her incision sight. She had not moved from the spot she was in for those 5-6 hours so there was no way that it was possible she tore her stitches. Because the vet was closed at that time, I took her to sumner veterinary hospital where she was immediately taken into surgery. The vet that took care of her immediately called me as soon as she was out of surgery to give me updates. They also explained that there was no sign of sutures on the inside and that they thought that the spay had definitely gone wrong. I was able to pick her up in the evening the day after I brought her in. She was energetic and back to her husky self after that surgery. I contacted the vet that did her spay in the morning after leaving at least 5 messages, I got a text. I then asked to speak to the vet who did my dogs spay and they told me she would not be back in the office for 5 days. I contacted for 2 weeks before I finally got ahold of the vet who did her surgery and it was the OWNER. She did not answer any of my questions nor offer any help for the cost of the surgery that was required, due to her mistake (approx. $2100) or the cost of the spay (approx. $700). The vet was completely unsympathetic to the fact that something that they did, almost killed my dog. I am just thankful that my dog is still alive, despite this vets awful handling of her. I highly recommend ANY other vet. read more

One of the worst experiences I have had with a "professional". Took the dog in because of issues with limping and coughing. Had to stay in the car and couldn't go inside with the pet. After the dog was inside for 5 minutes we were told that they could not take x-rays or do an exam on the throat because they did not have time. But the exam cost $65. Dr. Stevens has been my dogs doctor for the past year now. She is absolutely amazing with my german shepherd. He's a rescue and I'm not sure of his past but he's very reactive to everything just about, he's also very loud. Needed some medication for my dog, and this was the only place I was able to find it. I called all the places nearer to my home, but didn't have any luck, and the BVH was just about my last resort. But when I called I was told they have no vet in the office and are booked until monday (it's tuesday). So I would not say they take emergencies. First time at this Veterinary clinic. I am not sure I understand the negative reviews from other posts as this was not my experience, at all. My dog was treated at a local Vet hospital for congestive heart failure. Now, between the ER visit and the previous vet that I had been with for 20 years, I felt my dog was a paycheck for them, especially seeing my desperate plea to help him. I started interviewing other vet clinics to hopefully find a new location for him and hopefully restore my faith in the Veterinary field. I was lucky to find a clinic that I felt comfortable with and scheduled an appt for him for 2 weeks out. Days after setting the appointment my dog started showing signs of respiratory distress and either passed out or had a seizure. Immediately I called the new vet clinic and they were not able to see him immediately and suggested the Buckley Veterinary Hospital. I called and they told me to come right in. My dog was treated and cared for by Dr. Kissack. She was not only very caring but treated me with respect. She examined my dog and explained everything in detail, even brought the results of his x-ray in the room and explained all of that in detail as well. She made adjustments to his medication and he has done better. Dr. Kissack even did something that no other vet has done for me. She called a couple of days later to discuss other concerns about my dog and the options that would be good for him. If Buckley Veterinary was not going to be able to see my dog in his emergency condition I would have taken him to an actual emergency vet hospital again, certainly would not blame ANY facility if they say they can't get them in. Not sure about anyone else but my dog has to have daily medication. Costs of medication goes up and frequently, that is no fault of the vet that's in part due to big pharma. All of my own medications have gone up dramatically in one month's time as well. I would highly recommend this location based on my personal experience. Very ill run practice. Every time I have taken my two dogs in, I've had to wait no less than 25 minutes to be seen. The last straw was yesterday with both of my dogs there, I asked for Trifexis prescriptions for both of my dogs. At check out, the invoice was marked up 200%! I went home to check my other invoices from my prior vet and Buckley vet is charging 150% more than a West Seattle practice. I checked online costs and they're charging 200% more than retail. I went back less than 24 hours to return the *sealed* packages and was told no. She explained that it was their policy but couldn't show that policy in writing on the invoice or posted in their waiting room. read more

The owner, Dr Woods is one of the worst vets I have had to deal with in probably 20 years. She is extremely condescending towards owners making them feel like they purposely failed to care for their pet thus causing whatever event that happened. I have seen and heard the same reviews about this vet. If I need to see a vet at Buckley I purposely ask that I not see Woods. I have had no issue with the other vets and in fact they have been both caring and professional. To my dismay I have heard Woods is going to my usual location at Lake Tapps Vet. I have been there many years and with many pets. I will not continue there if Woods is the only vet and I understand the staff at Tapps is leaving which is a shame as they have been amazing. I will highly recommend to others to avoid using Dr Woods if at all possible. Pet owners love their pets and usually will do anything they can to help them. Dr Woods treats owners so badly I can't imagine having to put my pet down in the presence of this person. read more

The vet My dog saw today was so completely rude and tried to imply that we were not trying to help our dog not only have we done everything that she has told us we also have seen the dog dermatologist they recommend for allergies I have spent over 5000$ on just this issue we have done blood test done the food trial and taken all the medications that they have recommended minus the human chemotherapeutic medication which had horrible possible side effects and cost over $800 for a month and they still weren't sure if it would even help. He goes to the groomers every week and when the vet recommended that we have him tested for specific allergies if she would have looked at her notes she already did that and when she said we should put him on a specific medication and was told we already tried that and said yes but you said it worked yes it did till it didn't and that's when they sent me to the dermatologist which was also in her notes. I have always taken my dog in myself but had to work today so had my best friend had to take him in and she was told that she is hearing everything third hand which is not true I just wanted to get him in right away for a possible eye infection. She made it feel like we didn't want to spend the money on him but that's not it at all I have spent the money and just don't feel like I should spend it again because you can't read your notes . I feel I have a responsibility to the public to inform them of what happened to my dog. I took my dog here for what I thought was conjunctivitis from my Shepherd licking her face when she was in heat but she was also not eating which confused me which is why you go to the vet. She had to put down about two weeks after I took her here because the vet who did her exam overlooked what should have been an obvious (to an animal doctor) infection my dog had. An offhand remark "to keep an eye on her teeth in case that's the problem" led me to a different clinic where I had her teeth cleaned and two extracted. Four days later, we're at another very reputable animal hospital where the doctor there knew immediately my dog had pyometra and this was confirmed by tests. Emergency Surgery was immediately scheduled but it was too late because of kidney failure. The money I spent between the three visits was well over what an initial surgery for pyometra would have cost. I should have taken her to the trusted hospital that only employs highly trained doctors who can effectively communicate with their clients. Dogs can't tell you how they are feeling but a good doctor can help translate. If I had taken her ANYWHERE else my dog would still be alive. read more

They refused to refill the medicine unless I brought her in for an office visit. Even though my vet called them they still refused. Clearly they prioritize money over an animals comfort. My problem is not the treatment received I think the techs and Vet have a good knowledge of what they are doing however they do seem to be shifty when it comes to charges. They do test and give medications without explaining any charges or cost, and then when we came back for the follow up my charge was almost twice what I was told it would be because again another test was done without me being able to accept or decline and not being advised that it was an additional charge. I am a full time student living on my disabled veterans benefits so my income is incredibly limited so have two surprising large bills was very frustrating and when I questioned the second bill the lady at the front desk was very rude and short like how dare I question charges. I would not recommend this practice unless you have no concern about how much your services will cost. read more

Once she got to Washington from California, Buckley Vet Hospital did all of her tests and shots. The fact that they go above and beyond to help out homeless pups makes them top on my list. I went there today with the heaviest of heart knowing today was my last day with my beloved dog. The staff was so caring, compassionate and professional. They walked and talked me through the procedure to euthanize my dog. They took care of me as well as my pet and made the visit as easy as possible. My almost 9 year old golden retriever has arthritis in both hips and knees. He tore ligaments in both legs years ago and I nursed him back to health without the expensive surgery recommended. I usually go to Lake Tapps vet (now called Wellhaven) and for many years and pets, was seeing the previous owner, Dr Davidson before she retired. We had agreed on a treatment plan to control my dog's discomfort and give him quality of life. It is and has been effective for about 2 years now. This was followed up by not one but 2 vets that had replaced Dr Davidson. To confirm that daily medication wasn't harming my dog I had senior dog labs drawn recently which showed all his tests as normal so his pain meds were not harming only helping. I recently needed a refill for the pain meds as I was getting a 3 month supply but my usual vets are gone and due to more changes at Lake Tapps, I had to request the refill with a rotating vet who could not order the refill. She has to use Buckley Vet, specifically Dr. Woods who I consider very impersonal and not sympathetic to owners at all. Periodically due to Lake Tapps being booked, I have had to use Buckley Vet as their back up and have had a horrible experience any time I used Dr Woods. She treats you like your incompetent or not trustworthy with your animal and its very upsetting as I love my dogs and do alot to ensure they receive good care. Woods refused to order the refill without my dog being seen. I absolutely did not want to see Woods so I paid a vet bill for an appt with the rotating Lake Tapps vet who examined my dog, confirmed his condition and recommended to Woods to continue the same course of treatment. Woods only approved a one month fill and I now have to discuss alternative treatments even though what I am doing is effective and comfortable for my dog. Why? Woods is not listening to myself as the owner or even the vet at Tapps but seems to be setting me up for unnecessary vet visits with alternative attempts at treatment which will only cost more money and probably just make my dog uncomfortable. I have heard from many others to include staff that she treats other owners the same way. Very rude and condescending! I would recommend not using this vet or if you have to use Buckley Vet, make sure you request not to see Woods. She has an extremely poor bedside manner and I question her concern for your pet and the owner. She does not care to listen to you as the owner or even your pet. Very disturbing. read more

I took my cat in to see them and the Dr was extremely nice, I'll give that. BUT.. Something was obviously wrong with my cat, she had lost massive weight, had a terrible time trying to eat was breathing heavy and was lethargic. They took her back for her exam, did blood tests etc etc etc (So they say) and gave her fluid and told me they couldn't see anything wrong. As I was walking out the vet literally said to me "Don't worry, she isn't dying or anything." A few days later it was the weekend and she had worsened so we took her to the emergency vet in Sumner. They almost immediately came back saying there was fluid on her heart and that she was in congestive heart failure. HOW THE HELL DID BUCKLEY VET MISS THAT?!? And have the audacity to tell me that she isn't dying and not to worry?! Within days of Buckley vet seeing her she had to be put down. My poor cat was so miserable and so sick and they just let her go saying she was OK. I got charged out the ass to take my cat to Buckley vet to try and help her and got charged that much for them to do literally NOTHING. read more

We recently moved to the area and decided to transfer our services there. That was a mistake. We have a new puppy and they did an OK job with him. He did have an infection that they missed. They seem to think I didn't know how to raise a puppy (he is my 4th I have raised) The third time we took him in they finally gave us medication that cleared him up in 24 hours. We also have a lab that blew out a knee and I took him in. We met with Dr. Stevens. She is very sweet and was great. However, they could not get their surgeon in there for 3 weeks. I was not going to let my dog walk around on a lame leg that long. I elected to get the surgery done at another clinic. I took him into the vet to get his stitches out and they thought he might have an infection. Dr. Wood told me to take him back up to Wallingford where the surgery was done because they would not treat him for the infection as they did not do the surgery. It turned out my dog did not have an infection. I should have read the reviews on this vet before we took our animals there. Lesson learned. read more

We have two lab mixes with some behavior needs. The vets have always been very good with our two dogs and the receptionist is always great at getting our dogs into a room quickly rather than waiting in the waiting room with other people and pets. One of our dogs started having seizures. The vet was very clear on what our next steps would be depending on how our dog reacted to the meds. She was patient and answered all my questions. After another seizure occurred she told me what I needed to do and if he had another seizure to call and ask to talk directly to her. Everything seemed to be going well. We were about to go on a long road trip with our dogs and realized we'd need to pick up extra meds for the seizures. This was easy and we were able to pick them up in a couple hours. We were staying at a cabin in the middle of nowhere a few days into our trip when our dog had another seizure. I immediately called the vet and explained what had happened to the receptionist. She told me she would relay all my info to the vet and get back to me ASAP. Within 30 minutes I got a call from my vet herself. She had just gone over my dogs paperwork with colleagues and spent the next 15 minutes explaining everything to me. She was very thorough and helped me make some tricky decisions. I genuinely think they care about the animals and will do whatever they can to help. I appreciate all there extra effort and the follow up phone calls after appointments. read more

If you need a vet to care for your dog while they are alive this place has compassionate care. And they also consider your feelings as the owner, but if you need your pet cremated for a private cremation take them elsewhere because there is no guarantee you will get that private cremation you paid for. My dog was to have received a private cremation and they botched the paperwork and it ended up a group cremation and no ashes were returned. read more
