On 6/6/25 I brought in my senior dog (doxie mix 17lbs) to check on a lump he had, and they suggested we also do a senior blood panel as part of an annual checkup. It seemed reasonable so I told them to go ahead. Upon bringing him in, he was acting normally. He was alert and wagging his tail, pulling at his leash, doing all of the normal dog things he does. After being taken into the back for bloodwork for 15 minutes (which felt like way too long), he came back a different dog. He was lethargic, wouldn't stand up, could barely move his head and his gums had lost all of their color (they were white). When I asked the vet (Dr. Dill) what he did to my dog he just shrugged at me, but once he saw his gums had lost all of their color, he became visibly worried and tried giving him some oxygen. After 10 minutes of oxygen it became apparent that he was NOT responding so I grabbed my dog and rushed him to the nearest emergency vet. We spent several hours at the emergency vet while they stabilized him. Once he was stable he was still not acting right and his red blood cell count was down from where it had been when we brought him in. My dog ended up spending 24 hours in the emergency room (totaling over $3500) and is still not fully recovered. The vets at the emergency hospital do not know for sure what happened, but after running all of the tests and observing him for 24 hours, believe it was a chain of events that began due to being overly stressed and having far too much pressure applied during the blood draw that was performed at Foothills. In no world did I ever think that a simple blood draw would almost kill my dog and cost me an additional $3500, but due to the incompetence of Foothills that's how my 6/6 and 6/7 played out. I would never recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone. read more

If you have a large breed of dog or other livestock I definitely recommend. We had a mastiff that needed a procedure during Covid and they were so supportive and accommodating even though bringing a sedated mastiff back out to the car was a challenge, they are great. I loved at visit the vet would get down on the ground with the big guys. Made it less threatening. read more

I made an appointment for my two cats' yearly check up as a new client. The person on the phone was friendly and welcoming. She told me there was an $85 charge that would be applied to their visits but would be charged if the appointment was missed. I agreed to that as I didn't anticipate any issues with making the scheduled time and set aside time on my work calendar and continued booking their first visit. The day of the appointment, I received a call that their vet's surgery was running late and could I come in tomorrow instead. I said yes and they moved the appointment to the following day. The next day I had a work meeting that went longer than expected and I missed the appointment. I texted my husband during my meeting and he called the clinic and said I could still come today but was stuck in a meeting. They said that didn't work and to reschedule. I am responsible and never miss appointments. I felt terrible and my husband called back some time later to reschedule. He asked if they would make an exception and apply the $85 charge to a rescheduled visit and they said no. I understand I missed the appointment; however they asked me to change the original appointment and I agreed to that even though I had set time aside from work for the appointment. I feel like this was a missed opportunity for them to gain loyal new local clients--we will be making the longer drive for our previous clinic. read more

Best vet ever! My dog and I had just moved to Buckley. He started having dental issues and they immediately got us in. The staff are all friendly and I found the pricing to be completely reasonable. Fuzzy ended up needing 2 surgeries. He received top notch care both times. The highly knowledgeable staff took as much time as I needed to explain things to me. It meant the world to me how well he was taken care of. Fuzzy actually gets excited when I tell him we are going to the vet. I highly recommend this vet office. read more

We will never go back. We've been a customer for around 5 years and taken 7 different animals in over that time. Due to other vets not taking new patients we took our chances. We brought our 2 year old dog in for a spay. Around 1 pm they called my wife saying everything went well and we could pick her up around 5:30. Then around 3 pm I received a call saying they lost her. The way this was handled was about as unprofessional as it gets. They can't even use their phone system properly. I was called by the vet tech then asked to hold because the doctor needed to talk to me. Everyone knows this is going to be bad news. But from the confusion in Dr. Vetter's voice he didn't even know who he needed to talk to. They never pushed the hold button so I listened to their incompetent conversation while I waited to find out they killed my dog. Dr. Vetter used a lot of veterinary terminology to explain what happened but never once owned up to what he had done. What's done is done but I hope nobody else has to deal with anything like this. A lot of people have good things to say about Foothills but I don't think they have ever been to a real small town Veterinarian. The kind that remembers who you are when you walk through the door rather then the dollar amount on your invoice. And a Doctor who has the common decency to make the tough phone calls himself. Foothills is the best! We have taken both of our dogs there and everyone in the entire office is amazing. My son LOVES to go there because he gets to search for their cat and play with their toys:) My favorite part is Dr. Vetter is very honest with you--which I appreciate and respect in a doctor. they can be this way because get to KNOW you...they knew us, our dogs, our son...all by name, remembered facts about our life and asked us about them--they were just great. We had to put our oldest pooch down a few weeks ago, and the people in the office were incredibly supportive and it was like they lost a member of their family too--and it was just a peaceful experience. They even sent us a PERSONALIZED card in the mail signed by every person in the office. I can't say enough good things about them--100% recommend. read more

If you love your dog, don't come here! Dr. Vetter removed a small cyst on our beloved dog's belly. The stitches were inexpertly done and the wound was oozing and draining. He sent us home without antibiotics and the wound became infected. We took her back to Vetter 3 days after the procedure and he said to us that the wound was NOT infected, but sent us home with antibiotics. He had the gall to charge us for a revisit, but we were so worried, we just paid and went home. When we removed the dressing to replace it, the wound was covered with an old, scratchy washcloth; not a sterile pad. What kind of place is this? The next day, the stitches ripped out (our dog had not touched them...she was wearing a collar). We rushed her to Sumner emergency Hospital, and they said there was lots of dead tissue, it was infected and that Vetter gave her the wrong antibiotic and pain pills. When I called Vetter the next business day and told him what happened, he says "these things happen". He then said that he wanted to see our dog again...like we'd take her back to him! If you want professional care, this IS NOT the place to take your dog. HE IS A BUTCHER! read more

I called at 7 pm on a Sunday night expecting to get an answering machine and got a kind and caring vet who told me to come right in and he would look at my doggie, even though he had just returned home from a business trip. Awful experience. I went in to have my Lab put down and they talked into numerous tests and treatments which gave me hope. $1500 later, my lab was sent home worst than when he went in. I cannot express how AMAZING this Vet Hospital is. Dr. Richard Vetter and his wife Kathy are so kind hearted and loving. Them and their staff do everything in their power to take care of your pets. They do large and small animals. We take our horses, cats, and dogs here. I've seen goats here on numerous occasions! On top of amazing service they include you on everything and on all of the options that they offer or that they know that someone close by might offer. They have your pets best interest in mind and they are always so dedicated to each of their patients. They took care of my elderly Sheppard on a late Sunday night. The clinic wasn't even open and they took the time to see her and help her out. I called after hours on a emergency for a 33 yr old horse who was choking. My normal vet was not available so I called Dr Vetter. After explaining the situation he made a house call to work on my guy. I found Dr Vetter very professional, knowledgeable and skilled. It took 2.5 hrs to remove the blockage on my horse, ending at around 11pm. I was impressed by how Dr Vetter handled the situation, especially him coming out for a patient he had never met (a lot of vets won't do that). I highly recommended him as a veterinarian. read more

We got tricked into an hour drive for a consultation only. We have a mini pig that is an amazing pet!! She needed her hooves trimmed and we were having a difficult time finding a vet or groomer close to our house that would do the service. I started calling some vets that were more out in the "country" area where they have livestock. When I called they made me an early morning appointment to trim her hooves, I was given a reasonable price and told we could speak to the vet about possibly getting her altered at the appointment. I was told her hooves could be done no problem as long as she would lay still. I said if I bring my husband we could keep her calm and laying down. The office is an hour drive away, we have a 5 month old and my husband works nights. However our pet is important to us so I made arrangements to get the whole family up and to the vet because on the phone it they made it sound like they were going to work with us. When we arrived at the office the vet came out to do a consultation. He said he never trims hooves unless the pigs are sedated, which increases the price by more than 10 times. I explained what I was told on the phone when I made the appointment, he said he only does it under sedation, no exceptions and he would treats our pet like family. How about treating the customer like family and working with us since we drove an hour??? When I asked what next he said he would have someone get us a quote to do the whole package, then left us sitting in the waiting area for our quote. I said what about the hoof trim that we scheduled an appointment for? He said nothing and walked away. I don't know how you can treat our pet like "family" with out even taking us into an exam room and touching our pet or answering our questions. After waiting 20 mins for the quote, there service are 1&1/2 times what I was originally expecting for altering the pig and 10 times more for trimming hooves. We will not be returning to this vets office. This is not how you treat "family". read more

My dog Elvis came down with a mysterious illness where he was throwing up and had severe diarrhea. Dr. Vetter saw him immediately and quickly diagnosed him as having Parvo even though he had been fully vaccinated. He saved my dog's life. I've used Dr. Vetter for both my dogs and my two horses. I know I can reach him in an emergency and at all hours. Dr. Vetter is everything you want in a vet. He's the modern day James Herriott. He has an old school compassionate approach with modern day technology and knowledge. I have peace of mind knowing that should I ever have an emergency he'll be there to help. He took care of my pony when she foundered and called in the services of Dr. Arnold to consult on a lameness issue with my other mare. I can't say enough about him and his staff. We took our 16yr old dog to be put to rest and they were awesome I really can't say enough good things about all the staff but especially the vet she was so kind, understanding, and gentle. It was a nice afternoon so they offered us a place out under a tree to do the procedure. This was such a peaceful place to let her go, she was very calm (not having to go into the office). Unfortunately due to a number of negative experiences I've had with this office I find it necessary to find another Veterinarian. They have cancelled two scheduled appointments I've had, they didn't have medication ready when it was supposed to be, and they weren't available to see my dog when she had an emergency. As for Christine at the front desk, she lacks compassion and customer service. When I tried to get my dog in for an emergency, Christine only said that they could see her next week. When I asked her why she couldn't be seen immediately I was told that Dr. Vetter would be out of the office. Good customer service would have been to show some empathy, apologize by immediately letting me know that Dr. Vetter would be gone and offering a referral. None of that happened. I told her I would have to find another Vet then and all she said was, "ok". Poor customer service is the number one reason people move on and she is the main reason I'm leaving. read more

This is the place I have been looking for! I have tried out different vets and clinics for the past two years that I have had my current dog and this is the place. The office staff are welcoming and kind. The doctors and techs took their time and were very caring and kind to both me and my dog. They were very informative and helpful without talking down to me. I have been to multiple other places and the doctors are in a hurry or don't explain prevention and answer questions. We have been taking our Labrador to Doctor Fetter for 8 weeks after our dogs birth. We found him totally by accident but it has turned out to be a Blessing. Doctor Vetter is a country doctor who started out as a horse veterinarian which he still does, and then went into dogs and cats. He is a compassionate man who cares a lot about the animals he takes care of plus the owners of the animals. His staff is considerate and caring, you can tell they care when they get down on the floor with your animal and talk to them like they were there's. I don't ever post anything but in this case I am, I have gotten to know Doc Vetter as he has performed many procedures on Jake and one major surgery from an accident at 6:45am Jake hit a stump that ripped him from shoulders to his back legs. I carried Jake to my truck and called Doc Vetter who did not hesitate and told me he would meet us at his office. 500 stitches and months of tender loving care later Jake is back running full tilt. Jake is my wife's and my son and I thank Dr Vetter for helping and caring. read more

Dr Vetter and his staff are amazing. They took care of our 12 year old labxshepherd cross after he was diagnosed with cancer by another vet. His professionalism, straight forward but caring approach made us feel comfortable with him right away. He gave us options but did not push anything on us and our dog, who was normally anxiety stricken when we would go to the vet, came to adore the staff here and was comfortable because they gave him a room or a horse stable, they didn't put him in a kennel with a bunch of other barking dogs. Love Foothills Vet! Dr. Vetter and staff are beyond amazing. I took my beagle there as I was referred there and he has helped her so much with her back, liver, and was always panting. Dr. Vetter is so patient, helpful and we just loved him and his staff. One of the workers even came in on her day off to walk my dog, wash her blankets and feed her as she missed her so much. I seriously had tears in my eyes when I heard this as my dog loves this place now too. They emailed me photos and updates on how she was doing and that just made my day. If I could give them 10 stars I would! I recently moved to the area and tried the other local vet in town and had multiple negative experiences there. We decided to give Foothills Vet a whirl. I am so glad we did!!! I have a Chocolate Lab that just went through dual knee surgeries and Dr. Vetter was fantastic in assisting in his recovery. The surgery I had elected to do is less known in their industry and Dr. Vetter even took the time to contact the surgeon that did the procedure to familiarize himself with that surgery in order to properly care for my dog. We also have a new puppy and have been in there often for typical puppy care and they have been fantastic with him too! We were not done yet...we have 3 dogs...and the third was having some limping issues and Dr. Vetter did a full workup on her as well. The Lab has been getting the cold laser therapy Dr. Vetter recommended and he was a different dog in a matter of days. Thanks to Dr. Vetter, all of our dogs are doing great! Dr Vetter and his staff are always professional and conscientious, even (especially) when it's not good news. They have been my go-to vet for 13 years, through now 3 horses and 4 dogs. I am consistently impressed at Dr Vetter's extreme attention to detail. I've also been in the position of having to make a difficult decision between spending thousands on a maybe or making the call now. They have been incredibly supportive regardless of the outcome and always do their best to insure we have as much information as possible when making decisions. Dr Vetter doesn't hesitate to collaborate with his many excellent contacts either, and my experiences with them have been equally good despite the tough circumstances that required them. Their office is located in Buckley, quite a ways off most people's normal drive. It's worth the drive, both when I lived in Maple Valley and currently despite the hellish traffic from north Tacoma.
