I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so after having an absolutely incredible experience with the team at Buckman's in Exton. Without going into too much detail... I had a complicated return situation that I was convinced would end up going poorly for me. But to my surprise, after explaining the situation to the store manager (Ernie I believe his name was), he took absolutely incredible care of me. Helped me with my return, helped me find the right product, set me up with a sales person for a dialed-in fit, and made the experience super positive. Honestly, it was one of the best customer experiences I've ever had and I will 100% be a Buckman's customer for life because of it. read more

Never have written a yelp review because I've never had good enough service to want to write something. I had wonderful service at the tent sale this fall [after looking at name tags] I can tell you the wonderful girls who helped me and checked me out. Kate, bryn and an Alexis were wonderful help to me, such refreshing faces of kindness to be faced with. You never see teenagers with such grace. Good job Buckmans! read more

Arrogant staff ... at least that was the attitude of one staff member that seemed to yell over the one or two humble, educated, and experienced associates I originally was working with. This person asked me 4-5 times where I rented my skies and then went on to bash the place I rented from. I can't tell if he was bashing the other store or my judgement. It also had absolutely no relevance on why I was there. Either way, it disgusted me. Show me your value, don't just bash another local business owner or my choice in where to shop. My wife asked "what is the best value in ski socks?" and he tried shaming her by saying "we don't shop by price, we shop by performance". The boot fitting was rushed and I was only given the opportunity to try on one boot. Looking back, the boots where not the correct boots for me. The next day I returned it all. The same sales guy got into with me. Twice the manager had to grab his arm and ask him to back off. The manager did seems to be a good guy. Luckily I found a really chill, patient, and knowledgeable place an extra 10 minutes away. read more

For a chain that dominates Southeastern PA, these stores are subpar. As a skier, I will only write about skiing here; you'll have to see other reviews about snowboarding. Hard Goods: the selection of skis and boots is limited to recreational skiers. Any type of "specialty" gear is confined to terrain park kid stuff. No race gear (and I'm not even talking about FIS approved - I mean off the rack, beer league gear). Very limited performance gear. No bump gear. Back country - what's that? Soft Goods: actually pretty solid in terms of general skiwear. Decent selection of brands and offerings. Again, no race gear, though. Tuning/Shop: oh please, these guys are terrible. Helen Keller must be dressing their stone for tunes. I brought in a pair of skis for stonegrinding and the resulting pattern was amateurish, at best. It was even worse when I looked at them with a true bar later. Clearly, their shop techs do not know what they are doing and their management is completely unaware. I wouldn't trust them to attempt to give even a basic tune to any of my skis - even rock skis. Rentals: I have rented gear for some novice friends and family. Their intake process is chaotic, to be kind. The rental gear was in decent shape, so no complaints there. The return process was simple. Accessories: decent selection of goggles and helmets. Usual selection of basic level accessories like locks and carriers, racks, gloves, and hats. Go elsewhere if you need wax, files, tuning tools and supplies because you probably won't find what you need here. Leashes, packs, and the like? Not so much. Service/Knowledge: customer service varies from friendly and attentive to condescending and off-putting. While most of the staff seems to be people (kids) who have limited knowledge and experience, if you ask around you will find a couple of former ski town locals who know their stuff. Find them and get to know them (I actually found one guy at the Exton store who I would trust to fit boots well). I found the managers to lack meaningful ski experience, and who try to bluff their way with spouting product knowledge. I grudgingly rate this place with 2 stars as it, admittedly, is a step up from the big box sports stores. Definitely a far cry from ski shops in the mountains, even in Northern PA (see my upcoming review of Idlewild for a comparison). Not even close to ski shops in ski country (not that I expect that in this area). read more

We had a rental that went bad, left the store with 2 left snowboard boots which we did not know until we got up to the mountain. Staff was very kind, helpful and apologetic; exceeded my expectations. But please make sure you try on BOTH boots before leaving! read more

Worked with staff to get a pair of snowboard boots transferred from another store only for Buckman's to never contact us that the boots arrived. When we visited the store a couple days later the boots had been sold to someone else. No attempt from manager to remedy the situation. Disappointed and will be taking our business to Ski Bum in Glen Mills or online!!!! read more

Went in for a routine wax. Was a week out, asked if they could get it done in 5 days. They wanted to charge me an extra $8 for 2 days. Waxed them in 20 minutes at home. Wish wicks was back. Family owned business that just wanted their customers to have fun and keep coming back read more

Buckmans sucks compared to Wicks. They don't know anything. 1 person in the whole place. Took my business to Ski Bum and spent $1800 there.

Definitely not Wicks Ski Shop. Very unfriendly staff. I've been there three times. Front register girls not warm and friendly at all. And they definitely have airs of attitude. The woman with dark, bobbish hair on the retail floor from Wicks is still great! The guy, looks managerial, bigger, taller, talks to his employees like no one else is in the room. The ski rental guy I dealt with was great and knowledgeable. And they ship the skis out to be tuned, waxed and adjusted even rentals.. which takes longer. But please, find your friendly, family oriented customer service. I miss Wicks that used to be on the site that Buckman's bought out. Darn. But felt I needed to leave a rating.
