We came during mother's day brunch and had reservations. It seemed like there was a mix up because we had one adult who is handicapped and two children but we were sat at high top tables. The high chair provided didn't even reach. And sadly the chairs at the table didn't even match, a couple chairs must have been taken from the bar to accommodate our party. We would have gladly waited for the table we requested. The food was delicious. My favorite part was the dessert bar. The limoncello cake was the best. read more

We chose Lucerne Inn because we had an occasion to celebrate. Something a little nicer than the usual. There was so much potential for this to go right. Great view. Cute country inn. But the food was forgettable/bad and the service was painfully absent. After being seated (by an older man in sweatpants), we waited twenty minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We all mentioned that it was weird that we were sitting there for 20 minutes, and wondered if the girl who brought us bread was our server. And we wondered more as we sat for even longer. Eventually, a young woman who walked by us several times serving nearby tables asked if we were waiting long. We said yes. actually, we have been. She avoided the topic and asked for our orders... We'd had plenty of time to decide. We ordered all at once, still hoping that this experience would have a sunny spot. Brussel sprouts as an app for the table, Filet Mignon, Roast Duck, Chicken Quesadillas, and a burger (mine) The brussel sprouts appetizer arrived for the table, and was exceptionally chewy. The burger, ordered medium rate, was charred well-done. I made it through a few bites before i gave up, Everyone else commented their meal was just okay too. No one checked in. At the very end of the meal, roughly an hour later, with half finished plates, the Owner (wearing sweat pants) asked how everything was. He missed the silence and half eaten food. We thought he might have noticed that it may not have been the spectacular, or even moderately good experience that you venture out for. We were left with the feeling that there may have been a time when this was a special place, where you took someone for a special experience. I can only hope it was a bad day/night/week or that something happened that we weren't aware of. But the guy wearing sweatpants seemed to sum up the experience - Nobody is trying here. read more

Dined at the restaurant for a special night out. The food was mediocre and expensive. Service was absolutely awful. Our meal was two hours long due to poor service. Then while we finished our meal (yay, curdled crème brûlée!), the staff started setting up for the Sunday brunch, loudly putting up tables, rolling out carpet, etc. It was so loud I could barely hold a conversation with my father sitting next to me. Either wait to set up the room until all diners have left or don't accept a reservation at 7:30. Seriously one of the worst dining experiences I've had and an expensive one at that. read more

i usually stay away from quaint inns, as i am more of a vegas, large hotel type person. i was unsure what to expect. thanks to rainy weather, my plane was delayed and i did not check in until after midnight. the inn sent me several texts - one reminder that cancellations needed to be made 48 hours in advance; a following one welcoming me soon. i replied to the text while i was gazing mournfully out my airplane window at the unrelenting rains that kept us from leaving the terminal. much to my surprise, someone actually texted me back and told me it would be no problem to check in late - someone was there 24 hours a day. i was relieved. almost as relieved as i was when my lovely flight attendant brought me an overpriced glass of wine and a tiny bag of stale pretzels. these things are necessary when flying. we arrived after midnight, check in was a bit slow, but these things happen. when i booked, i chose the king size suite. however, i obviously suffered a temporary bout of not comprehending the written english language, and booked TWO king rooms - they were adjoining rooms. yoiks. our rooms were not in the main building, there is another building across the parking lot - warning, if you have unwieldy luggage, there are no hotel trolleys to help with this. also, there are no elevators. think of it as exercise. happily, the stair flights were not copious, and i made it to the rooms without believing my death was imminent. rooms are spacious and clean. the 'larger' room had a mini refrigerator and fireplace (the fireplace did not work, maybe they turn them off during the summer months, idk). the adjoining room was nice; bathroom and closet were both smaller than the first room. however, both bathrooms had towel heaters and jacuzzi tubs. yay! here's a little tidbit - if the keurig machine does not work in your room, turn the master switch on, rather than calling down to the front desk and telling them the coffee machine is not working. this may, or may not be from me experiencing it firsthand... this inn is also used for weddings and other gatherings. judging from the wine fueled shrieks i heard the following evening, people were preparing for a future wedding. the grounds are well kept and spacious. a golf course is across the highway from the hotel. if you want your room to be cleaned each day, put the housekeeping request tag on your door - the staff is amazing - our rooms were so clean and fresh smelling. as well, visit the pub and enjoy the chill service while basking in the sun. our waiter was great, we had mozzarella sticks, which i guess were yummy. i didn't eat any; my dining companions did not clutch at their stomachs or groan, so i am assuming the sticks were tasty. i put my energy into my chocolate martinis. someone had to do it. sadly, i did not have the chance to sample the sunday brunch. everyone i encountered at this site was friendly and always helpful. it was a very pleasant stay. the only thing that is pissing me off is how tedious and boring this review turned out. where's my usual lack of decorum? the snark? i must do better... read more

We had all you could eat seafood. It was horrendous. The haddock was soggy, the muscles look like they were thrown on the plate and they looked sketchy and the tiny salmon fillet was overcooked and had some sort of a sweet sauce on it. The pecan pie for dessert had a texture to it of more of a jelly. We enjoyed the water. read more

ROOM INFESTED WITH BUGS!! Spent a night in room 27 over Columbus/Indigenous Peoples weekend. It was supposed to be a 2 night stay. However when I returned to my room Sat evening I found it infested with flies! I killed 4 with the tissue box in the room, then called the front desk to ask for another room. I was told they were full and couldn't move. More bugs were found in the room so I called the front again and ask for that night to be refunded as I wasn't comfortable staying. The very nice young lady at reception called the owner and informed me that he was willing to offer a $65 credit for Sat, because I stayed Fri and not had any complaints about insects the first night!!! I have included pictures of room 27 and its extra inhabitants, on the ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom, as well as dead on the rug. I actually had to dispute the charge on my credit card because the owner didn't feel that flies were a valid reason to cut my stay short. I will add that the young lady at the desk was very sweet and as understanding as she could be, as she was obviously in a very awkward position. read more

I'm a food connoisseur and I'm make chef style dinners. I choose this restaurant based on the Chef. I was very disappointed the risotto over cooked it should have a bite to it. The swordfish was over cooked dry and had way too much blackened seasonings. The rack of lamb said Parmesan encrusted and it was really breadcrumbs patted on it right before service. The presentation was nice. The lady who sat us was rude but our server was very nice. read more

I'm here right now for my second night. I am loving my stay. First off... I was not looking to stay in a high rise hotel or modern AirBnb. Or else I would have. I wanted something that took me away from the madness of over population and traffic. And this place was perfect. It's nestled peacefully in the hills between congested Bar Harbor and Bangor. A wonderful escape from all the craziness. It's very quiet here and very beautiful. My room looks out to a lake and I have heard loons calling from it while in bed in the evening reading a book. The room and furniture is dated, very dated, but that was what I was hoping for. A real Maine Inn experience. One that took me back in time. And although dated, the room was EXCEPTIONALLY clean. Fresh linens on the bed. No dust on anything. The shower is spotless. The AC works great too which I really didn't have high hopes for. So that was a pleasant surprise. Overall just a wonderful spot if you're looking for comfort and simplicity. And maybe even want to feel like you're time traveling a little to the 1950's. I didn't try the restaurant, walk the golf course or hang out by the pool. But they all looked pretty wonderful too. Maybe next time. read more

The view was beautiful. The deck was nice but had lots of problems with our orders. The amenities state that the pool was available but it was locked up. We could not even sit in lounge chairs near pool. The owner spoke to many locals but never spoke to us. We spent over $525 for dinner, a night stay and drinks, it would have been nice to have been greeted. I do not feel we would stay again. The food was absolutely wonderful from the restaurant for dinner. We had the special lobster with scallops and shrimp stuffing. It was the best meal of our trip. Well, we drove up from Mass for the ghosts. We even stayed in the "most haunted room"-- room 8 ---three nights ---- Not one thing occurred. For over $200 a night, we would have appreciated a fridge and a microwave in the room, and being greeted warmly-- at least. Packaged powdered cream does not a coffee make. The owner was cold and stressed when we arrived. I asked her if she was having a bad day-- she said she was just busy. The parking lot is full of big pot holes. The room was nice-- plain but clean. The towel warmer was a bonus, as was the whirlpool tub. The toilet in the room is so blessed low-- If you have bad knees you may get stuck! Time to upgrade to a decent one. The bar near lobby looked good. Continental breakfast -- meh-- didn't even have water. Packaged granola bars, packaged danish. Had to go find someone to make some coffee. The dining room was lovely and very pricey. The food was excellent. George was our server and he did a fabulous job. The person in the room above us apparently was a pacer-- very heavy footed -- the floors squeak like heck. If you're a light sleeper, I'd bring some ear plugs. Lord. There is absolutely nothing to do in Dedham-- unless you like a gun store and a salvage store. We are going to Bar Harbor today. Don't go here for the paranormal. It's a farce. read more

We called because our Airbnb very much NOT meet the expectations that we generously paid for. I called the Concierge man and he said he was fully booked for the weekend. Then, I politely asked for the day after that and said he was fully booked. Then, I politely asked for the day after that, and he hung up on me in the middle of my sentence. I am updating to add the checkout experience. The owner was high tempered and shouting/screaming/ranting at me for my review. He basically said that because I am a pet owner, the room I got would be the room that pet owners get and not the room as shown on their website. High price room and terrible experience. we arrived late and after walking thru the dining room to get to our room which was odd but okay we were seated for a late dinner. Not sure how one cannot make a good chx quesadilla but that was the case- and steak was not tender by any means. Ordered a specialty drink which was terrible. Bed was comfortable but the room itself had a loud buzzing fire place- dirty stained chair I did not want to sit on- shower had free standing water as the the drain did not seem to work and no water pressure. Went down for the free breakfast and only orange juice- jimmy jean microwave breakfast sandwiches floating on water with a few ice cubes-and a couple of containers of individual cereal. The display about the inn were interesting but a lot of dirty things to handle and a broken antique phone. Mentioned much of this at check out and the man I presume as one of the owners seemed dismissive of the concerns. Especially about the shower stating it was one of their newer redone rooms. i worked 48 years proving customer service and will not be coming back. read more

Stayed the night at the Inn, staff was great, upgraded us and allowed us to have late checkout since we were having Thanksgiving dinner there the next day. Dinner was ok for the price. Desserts were either store bought or frozen (cheese cake) depending on what you got. Other menu options did not taste anything like this description on the menu, which was disappointing. As a former executive chef of 9 years you got to give your guess what it is described as. If it wasn't for the convenience of not having to cook and clean I would not have payed the price per person. Was a dead give away of quality when the childs price was over 20$ cheaper and just was missing a app, But still had full portions of everything else. read more

Service was outstanding! Distancing requirements were great but still have that homey feel it is known for. Also stopped I. For dinner on the patio a week or so later. I'm getting this out of the way first: the view is spectacular! It is a lovely spot, and I'm actually giving them an extra star for the view and the service. I've been to The Lucerne Inn four times for their Sunday brunch, and before this visit, my last was two years ago. Unfortunately, the food seems to have gone slightly downhill since then. The English muffins under the Eggs Benedict were all burned, which didn't matter as much as the Hollandaise not being tasty. The bacon was standard buffet, cooked-in-the-oven type, which means it wasn't really crispy. The fresh fruits, veggies, olives and shrimp were all very good, as were the desserts. Unfortunately, it was the cooked food that was simply lacking on this visit. read more

This review is for Sunday brunch. Lucerne has a beautiful location. It's a lovely old building and has a great view of the lake. Try to request a table near the windows on the first floor for it. We brought my dad here last weekend for Father's Day. Lucerne has a brunch buffet on Sundays, and while it isn't cheap ($23 a person, I think?), it's totally worth it. They have regular breakfast stuff (eggs, fruit, bacon, sausage, baked goods, waffles, bagels and lox), but they also have options for people who feel more like lunch food (at ours they had beef burgundy, rice, potatoes and veggies). They also had an omelette and carving station. Finally, they had a huge table of desserts, like cheesecake and pie. What I especially loved about it was that nothing was left out for long. Everything tasted fresh--they even managed to poach the eggs for eggs benedict without overcooking them (really hard to do if they're not immediately being served). I haven't been there for dinner in years, so I can't speak for that (I remember we came here for dinner before my senior prom--we all felt so fancy), but I'd highly recommend the brunch buffet. read more

Invited good friends out for my birthday, last time we eat at Lucerne inn was almost 20 years ago. We remembered it being great. But we were very disappointed with our dinner the other night. The seafood was over cooked and heavily breaded. The Chef chooses the starch which was waffle chips(really) $36 per meal and you just get fries. I ordered crab stuffed haddock. The crab had little hard things thru out. The rice side was a cold orange mushy pile. Gross. Needless to say, 4 people had very disappointing meals. Paid $203 for the meal plus $40 tip to the waitress, who was the only pleasant thing about the night. Next birthday we are heading to Bar Harbor! read more

We went to the Lucerne Inn to celebrate a good friend's birthday. We were incredibly disappointed from beginning to end. We probably waited 10 minutes upon arrival before anyone helped us even though there was a woman sitting in an office nearby who saw us come in. She eventually acknowledged our standing around and brought us into the mostly empty dining room to be seated. Our waitress was very nice and attentive and was the only bright spot of our entire evening. The four of us ordered different entree's from the menu and not one, two or three, but all four entrees were almost not edible. The ravioli was swimming in some sort of brown sauce that was supposed to be curry based, the fried haddock was overly breaded and overcooked, the scallops were also just as bad - over breaded and overcooked. The broiled haddock wasn't much better and the sides were almost unrecognizable. The Lucerne Inn is a historic hotel in a magnificent location, but for how beautiful the hotel is, the food is definitely the ugliest and worst we've ever experienced. Definitely not worth your time or money, we'd give them a negative 5 if we could. read more

First off, the restaurant is open to dine in (social distancing, masks when not sitting at table). That being said, this place is a gem. Location is outstanding, and the dining room has windows on the spectacular view. The food was excellent - Started with brie and toast, brie was warm, mellow. Went on to new England clam chowder, which was more of the cream broth vs a thickened variety, but plenty of clams and potatoes, along with onion and other seasonings. Very good. For main course, I had the crabmeat stuffed haddock - very fresh, fish flaked off, crabmeat was a nice touch. Excellent. We didnt make it to desert - portion sizes were generous. One other note - while this was a somewhat upscale restaurant, they were very accommodating of our family including the three of our children that we brought along. read more

We used to come here for brunch and it was good-but the quality of the entire experience has really gone downhill. We were seated in an UN-air conditioned room with the door open on a hot day. There was also no view in this room what so ever. The food was horrible!! Bland or "off" tasting-selection was no where near what it used to be. The cocktail shrimp keep getting smaller and smaller each time we go. We left extremely disappointed and hungry. We won't make the mistake to go back ever again-and that's a real shame seeing as how there are so few good places to brunch in the Bangor area :(( read more

Regardless of whether you decide to enjoy dining in the restaurant (opens at 5pm) or in Rian's Bar (after 4pm), the food is excellent. We ate in the bar and the service was great as were our meals and drinks. There is a full bar although they do not serve draft beer since the pandemic? We hope they resume serving their famous Sunday Brunch soon. There is a 9-hole golf course across the street which offers great views of Lucerne Lake as well as the surrounding rural geography. read more

I stayed here for 2 nights when I came to visit our dog's breeder. This is such a great hotel! Granted, it has some weird ghost stories attached to it (if you're freaked out, avoid room 8, apparently, although supposedly the murderer ended up going to room 5 and commiting suicide sooo....) I digress. This place is super charming. And the price can't be beat! It's in such a great location, you're in a beautiful spot but can still drive to Acadia National Park as well as Bangor and anywhere else. The room was amazing, we even had a little fireplace as well as a TOWEL WARMER (omg don't look at me like that, towel warmers are a luxury and should be treated as such). We did have the Sunday brunch, which was delicious, but I remember thinking it was crazy overly priced. However, it is a buffet, so you can eat whatever you want. Would recommend a reservation for brunch as it got packed later. The food was decent brunch fare and they had an egg station, which was nice. The lucerne inn was absolutely amazing! We had a girls weekend away here, couldn't be more happy with our choice! The staff and food were absolutely outstanding! Dave the bartender mixed up great drinks and provided a friendly atmosphere in the lounge. Keith and Mike offered excellent dining room service. Cynthia the housekeeper was very attentive to our needs and made sure we were always comfortable. Food was upscale and portion very comparable to price! Quality was to die for! This is one of very few dining rooms with the old style grace we used to know. Spacious, simple, actual wood burning fireplace. Quiet enough for civilized conversation. AND excellent food. Tonight was lovely serving of rack of lamb. Very nice F onion soup. Finished with torte that had nice hint of dutch chocolate. On a cold winters night dining by fire is heaven. An amazing establishment with great food, friendly service, and remarkable views. The owner, bartender, and servers are friendly and approachable, and have accomodated my every request the many times I've been there. I think my favorite is brunch on Sunday mornings. It's like your typical brunch buffet, only more delicious, and features eggs benedict, made-to-order omelettes and waffles, and hand-carved roast beef and ham. All for less than $20 per person. Make a reservation because this does get full, especially if the hotel is hosting a wedding that weekend. Another great feature is Wine Down Wednesdays. Many wines on their extensive wine list are half off all day on Wednesday. Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 6pm every day except Saturday. Certain appetizers are half price, and there are special drink prices too. Another awesome feature is their monthly wine dinners, where wines are paired with each course of a 5 course meal, and representatives from local wine shops discuss the wine and how to enjoy. This does require a reservation to get in, but it is not to be missed. Around $60 per person for everything, which may seem pricey, but where else can you get a 5 course meal including wine for that little? It's too bad that I live so close to this wonderful place, because going there so often is going to make me fat. :( read more
