In Bud Matthew's response to the first complaint against them on the Better Business Bureau website, it was stated by Bud, "we have an A+ rating with the BBB". Bud Matthews IS NOT BBB accredited. BBB gives all companies that are not accredited an A+ rating, even if the company is a dismal failure and deserves an F rating. If you look on the Bud Matthews website, at the bottom of the home page, you will see a picture that says BBB Rating A+. Again Bud IS NOT BBB accredited. Reason for call: lukewarm water. Thought the thermostat needed replacing. Started out with technician arriving 1.5 hours late - I had coordinated x2 with their office for the 1st appointment of the day, not the between 8-12 time their auto appt reminder sends out, and was assured by two individuals the tech would be at my house around 8am. At 9:30, the contract between Bud Matthews and myself had already been breached. She was on the phone when she arrived. Said she didn't need any tools as she was only going to take pictures and would not be doing any testing. Don't know how a tech can tell me what is wrong if not testing. She went in the crawl space and returned with pictures. Showed me there were some screws missing on the unit- said this indicated the unit had been worked on previously. Showed me a rust line and said the unit had a leak, however when I asked if the crawl space was dry, she assured me there was no water seen. And then she went on to tell me the unit needed to be replaced- all this from pictures. Said extra charge for removing old unit, any pipe replacements, and to add a heater expansion tank. She just wanted to sell me a tank - not there to diagnose or repair. House call was $160. Replacement cost would be $2,700+. No quality, no value, no confidence in technician. DId not use for tank replacement. Would not recommend. read more

RIP OFF ARTISTS Several trips to repair nearly new GE oven, lots of parts replaced GUESSING at our expense. At one point, parts and screws fell out all over the floor while they were struggling and trying to remove the unit. I have a bad back the 'tech' said. Finally they gave up and/or I fired them. The GE tech (that I should have called first) diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes, ordered a simple part, fixed our nearly new GE oven under WARRANTY. BMS Techs are trained to 'rip off' the customer any way they can think of, previous unsatisfactory gas dryer repair. STAY AWAY. They're not honest and they're INCOMPETENT. read more

This firm is fraudulent. The plumber showed up at my home to fix a showerhead issue and stayed 15 minutes. He did not remove the part in question but said he would order a new part and come back. He never ordered the new part. The firm also would not tell me the model and make of the part so I could order it myself. I strongly suspect he did not know since he never removed the part - he just fiddled with his phone for 15 minutes and left. The firm keeps trying to charge me almost $200 despite making no progress on resolving my issue. It seems crooked to me and I suspect this is this business' MO. read more

Had the worst experience with Bud Matthews. The came out to look at my oven spending a whole five minutes on diagnosis. I told them the problem and they confirmed. Called me back the next day and told me the display panel had been discontinued. I called to discuss options and they said the could do an install if I bought an oven and if it was at my location. When I called to complain about this outrageous service fee nothing was done to resolve.Granted I probably could have been calmer but I was upset, my bad! In conversation I was told that I did not call after they told about the part issue, as I said earlier I did reach out to them about options. Secondly I was never informed about a $200 service fee just to come, that would have influenced my decision because I knew I had an old oven and parts might be an issue. Here is your warning before calling Bud Matthews...let's start at the beginning. The first part of June, I called for an appointment for them to look at a clogged toiled in our half bathroom downstairs. They came out on June 14 and unclogged the line going to the city tap in. Well, same thing happened again. At that point it was affecting our kitchen sink. Every time we would run water in our kitchen sink the toilet would overflow. So they came on June 25 and ran a snake and camera to see what was going on. June 26th the manager came out and determined that a PVC pipe outside the house was the source of the problem. They said that although this pipe was going downhill it had a little "belly" and needed to be dug up and replaced. They came back and completed the job on July 2nd. That alone was $2750.00. I was very thankful that they had what I thought fixed the issue...I was wrong. About 1-2 weeks later guess what, we had the same issue as the beginning. Once again, we called them and they couldn't come for 4 days. We had to deal with our toilet overflowing every time we washed a dish in our kitchen sink until they could come. They came back out on July 18th and determined it was a flapper inside the pipe that was not opening. This was not the same place that was previously repaired. Keep in mind, I had already paid them $2750.00 to fix this same problem. Once they opened the flapper, the toilet and sink were working, but they advised us we would need to replace the flapper and they would replace the flapper that afternoon or the next day. Well, that never happened, we never got a call or anything. Remember July 18th, they determined it was the flapper. I called multiple times to see why the flapper hadn't been replaced and when it would be replaced. On the 3rd phone call, they said the wrong part came in (which is understandable, mistakes do happen) and that they would be out later in the week to fix. They did not come back until August 16th to install the flapper. Everything works fine now, but now I have a $461.00 invoice for a plumber service call and labor fee. Sounds like I was charged to replace pipe that didn't need to be replaced, since that didn't actually fix the issue. read more

I had a Bosch microwave oven that occasionally was popping a breaker. I thought I would get ahead of the problem and have it check and repaired before it was a big problem. Again it was working 95% of the time. They came in thought the problem was the door switches so they changed them. After that it popped breaker as soon as the door closed. After repeated attempts to diagnose the problem they some how blew the control board ! Now I have nothing. The next day they called to say they can't get the board anymore so they are done. Now I have to replace the microwave for $2000. They say it's not there fault, the board was probably the problem. How convenient... I am stunned at the lack of accountability this place has. One star is to high a rating as far as I am concerned. Never again . read more

$$$$. Courteous, Professional, Capable, Expensive. $75 to show up + $200/hr (in 15 minute increments - i.e. $75 to show + $50/15 min). So thats $275/first hour. I used them for relatively minor residential plumbing issues - mainly hot water mixing valve inefficiency in master shower - took 30 min of work, so that was $175. The main problem I see with this type of pricing model is that you feel rushed to solve the immediate problem and don't want to spend any time talking about any potential larger issues. IMHO, this leads to short term thinking and places short-term profits over longer-term customer satisfaction. read more

One of the worst company we used. They came on Tuesday and were not able to figure out what the issue was. They tried something and charged us nearly $500 for 1h of work. Their rate is $50 every 15 minutes. On Thursday A/C stopped again. We called back and ask to come back because it was not working. We asked if we could not be charged for labor again, but just for the parts (if any needed) because we were already been charged and the problem was not fixed. The manager denied it saying they would charge about $400 and this may or may not solve the issue. Our request was met with impoliteness and unprofessionalism. Here some sentences that we were told: "I am an engineer so I am the expert not you..." "My technician needs to feed his children..." "This is America [with obvious indication about my accent] nothing is for free.." Please if you ever think to use them; stop, think twice and dial another number. read more

One week before Thanksgiving I awoke to find that our refrigerator (which is only 4 years old) had completely stopped cooling. The company that the warranty people use couldn't even come out to look at it until the day before Thanksgiving (for which we were expecting 10 people for dinner). I called Bud Matthews and they sent out a repair person that day, diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. They came back to repair it when the part came in, and it was fixed and cooling again before Thanksgiving. They did me right. read more

Was given a 2 hour window (better than 4 hours) for arrival. Job required ordering a part and return to install. Benjamin explained the needs and process. I called on Wednesday for a dishwasher repair job. The call was handled promptly, efficiently and professionally, all possible charges being carefully explained. The appointment was for Thursday between 1 and 3. At 1:10, Luis the technician called and said he'd be there in 20 minutes. Twenty minutes later, he arrived, and about thirty minutes after that, repairs were complete, at a (by today's standards) reasonable price. Totally and completely satisfied. read more

Beware - they are charging $264 per hour. Yes $264 per hour for labor fees. And you do not have control on how much time they take for labor (including being on phone calls). Not only are these people crooks but they are incompetent. We hired them to replace about 6 ft of gas line and two regulators which sell for about $60 each on Amazon. They charged us almost $600 for the two regulators and then tried to cheat us on labor. When caught, they immeidately reduced the bill by half. However, the job itself was botched in a way that would create dangerous gas leaks in the near future as they used steel clamps to secure copper gas line a major no no. In just a short time there was extreme corrosion where the steel touched the copper. For this reason, either the copper has to be protected with a plastic sleeve or nylon clamps have to be used. They did neither so the corrossion would have eaten through the sidewall of the pipe and caused gas leaks. This was a rookie mistake. In addition, since they replaced gas line, a portion of it buried, they were required to pull a permit, which they did not. Had theyt done what was legally required, an inspector would have caught the improper install right away before any damage was done to the lines. We are going to file a complaint with the NC licensing board, consumer affairs, and the BBB. Stay far away from this company! read more

They said that yes, they have had many great Yelp reviews which have disappeared from the site. Also, they have been trying to get help figuring out who the unhappy posters were so that they could correct any issue. I contacted Bud Matthews for HVAC service and my experience did not meet my expectations. Here are the details of the many issues I had and you can decide for yourself: 1) They performed a $300 repair without checking with me beforehand. 2) The $300 repair was for replacing a simple programmable thermostat which seems very expensive. 3) They do not credit the $100 diagnosis fee towards repairs performed so my thermostat replacement cost me $400. 4) Replacing the thermostat did not fix the problem so then they diagnosed a bad blower motor. While it is certainly possible both things failed at the same time (thermostat and blower motor) it does raise questions. 5) They wanted $800 to replace the blower motor but did not check or ask me to check if it might be under warranty. It was under warranty and all you have to do is call in the model#/serial# to the manufacturer to confirm this. 6) When I told them the blower motor was under warranty they said they would check into it and get back to me. Two days later I had not heard from them so I had another company order the free replacement blower motor and install it for about 30% of what Bud Matthews was ready to charge me. 7) To give credit where credit is due (thus the 2-star rating) replacing the blower motor did fix the issue. read more

Not only did he fix the broken prong of my AC but got a switch that would turn it on and off so I wouldn't have to plug/unplug each time (it sits high in the wall) - and went back and forth to the fuse box in the rain because the switch wasn't marked properly - on a late Friday afternoon. He clearly explained the charge. I will continue to use them for all my appliance and plumbing needs! read more

We had a great experience with Bud Matthews Services for HVAC replacement. On the first hot day of the season, we discovered that our air conditioner would not turn out. Bud Matthews Services sent a technician (Terry) to our house for repairs the very next day. Because of the age of the unit and the problem (no coolant), the unit could not be repaired. The technician explained the various options available to us and the costs involved. Based on factors of age of the heating system and efficiency considerations, we decided to replace the full HVAC system. Bud Matthews ordered a new system and the installers (Jose and his assistant) were at our house within days. They had the system operational and ready to go in two days. The technicians and installers were friendly, respectful of our home and family, efficient and knowledgeable. Bud Matthews, the owner of the company, was involved in every step along the way and really seemed to care about the quality of the service. We will definitely work with this company again for all of the many services they provide. read more

We have used Bud Matthews for many years. His staff does good work and stands by what they have done. Recently a plumber fixed a leak under our sink to my husband's specifications. This required getting additional valves and other supplies. The next day, we noticed there was still a small leak. The plumber was here within an hour, fixed the previously hidden leak in just a few minutes, and there was no extra charge. He was very apologetic for missing this leak. Bud's service representatives were punctual and cordial. They troubleshot a problem with our clogged dryer vent, trying different approaches when the first try didn't work to clear the line. They explained everything they were doing as they did it while we watched. They were very efficient and moved quickly to remove a huge wad of damp lint that was stubbornly stuck in the recesses of the rather long exhaust duct. We are and have always been pleased with their promptness, professionalism, courtesy, prices, and quality of work. Highly recommend! read more

On Wednesday afternoon I called Bud Matthews plumbing with a plumbing emergency. We were in town doing some things on a property we own and needed help ASAP. Bud Matthews was able to send someone out within the hour when a couple of locals I called couldn't get to me for a week or more! They were very professional and courteous and the fact that they could send someone out so quickly on such short notice speaks volumes of them as a business. However, be prepared to deal with a lot of attitude, particularly if you are dealing with Bud himself. And be prepared to pay an outrageous price. What I was charged for a simple problem was unbelievable. I asked about why the bill was so much (after the work was completed) and there was no good answer. These guys are excellent. The guys came out and were 5 minutes early and were quickly able to identify my problem with my BOSCH Diswasher. They did not want any money for the visit and indicated once the part arrives they will be back out and settle up at that time. Co, called me back within 1 week and once again they arrived 5 minutes early, quickly repaired my dishwasher and left the old part (on purpose), to show what the problem was and validating they actually made the repair. The visit was extremely reasonable. This company is run very well, from the customer service call, follow up. etc.. EXCELLENT!!! read more

I would never use these folks again ,,, horrible service!!! poor customer service... these sub par plumbers installed an water heater in my 80 year old moms home, left her resident with the heater leaning out into her Hall way thus leading to the system malfunction after calling an diffrent Plummer(recommended by friends I was able to get my elderly mom an safe and secure system ... when I call them I was told(Simon the Manager) that they don't have to do anything and that my mom is responsible for getting it corrected,, ( bull) So after two days of call I was able to get an inspector to review there POOR Craftsmanship only to be told that had I not turn off the system if would started an FIRE ... you can imagine my surprise to know that the plummer replace the water heater left my Mom an toddler nieces in danger of been trapped by fire!!! read more

I love being able to call one company, no matter what needs doing in and around my house. The most recent project involved a new roof and gutter system, in addition to smaller improvements and repairs. They scheduled a plumber quickly to fix my problem, he was able to come earlier than scheduled which was great. Work is charged by the hour but I did not see any sign of the plumber trying to stretch out the time to make more money. Plumber went out of his way to make sure everything was working properly,even returning at no cost when we discovered that some of the items I purchased for installation were defective.
