The broken sign that spelled out "udd" instead of Buddha might have been the tipoff that this once reliable place (I'm told) had lost its luster. We were a well behaved party of 7 adults 3 young people who arrived at 8 and by 10pm were surrounded by a full staff using mops and brooms while we were still seated and some of us still picking. Disgusting. Meanwhile we noticed that the restaurant stored it's toilet paper in full view of the dining room, and there was a mob and bucket next to me at the entrance to the kitchen. It smelled. In fact, I think the whole place smelled a little 8th Ave in Hell's Kitchen (where there is a sewer problem). It's one of those places where they barbecue at your table and the cook quickly divides the food on the grill and delivers it to your plate from a stainless cooking utensil. He was not very careful. He also squirted sake all over several people, instead of getting it in their mouths. Rushed service, limp noodles, burnt shrimp. And then the cleaning crew pushing filth everywhere. For this, $600, and there were only a few cocktails, as 5 of us were not drinking alcohol. This place is disgusting. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. Has really fallen off lately. Staff is rude, had a pick up order - not only were things incorrect, the soup was awful. Basically watery broth with two tiny slivers of mushroom. Sushi rolls also were not great, and only one tiny container of soy sauce. Why? We ordered more than one roll. So my daughter is a minor 10 years old I pointed to the menu and said hibachi steak... Well apparently I didn't say minor hibachi steak and she saw me pointing to the menu underneath where it said MINOR section for ordering.. So instead of charging me the minor price for steak dinner they gave me an adult one for $23... I went to talk to the manager.. both the server and manager were useless.. I have been going here since they opened, most of the people working here are not very friendly. The past 2 times I ordered Beef in Sambal sauce a dish I really like. I told them I wanted it extra spicy and to please thicken the sauce since it has been very watery. When I got home it was tasteless and still watery. I have found that no matter how you order it you will get it the way they want to make it. Same goes for General Tso Chicken does not come out spicy and has been soggy. Been here a bunch of times. Food is passible. Service is normal. Usually empty so fast service for lunch is why I go. Ordered grub hub delivery and specified extra extra ginger on 2 of the lunch specials we ordered. Even said charge me extra if you have to. Received order 26 minutes after they told us with not only no extra ginger but barely any at all. Couldn't eat sushi without ginger so only ate a little. Called a manager he totally blew me off and said next time I give you ginger. There wont be a next time. They will probably close soon anyway read more

I love the hibachi experience but this place should be shut down. The server sat us down and the place was not busy for a Friday night which should have told us it wasn't a hot dining spot. The waitress missed our drink orders but I ordered twin lobster tails, hibachi. I didn't recognize the lobster. It looked like it was old sitting out of the refrigerator for days then he served one serving on my plate. I was silly for noticing the chef served a lot of shrimp and 1 little lobster on my plate, I didn't order the shrimp; so I asked for the correct order. MY MISTAKE! I didn't eat the rice or noodles I just had the soup, salad, lobster and shrimp. My s/o had some of my "lobster" 1 minute into getting home the both of our stomachs were cramping and we were sick to our stomachs for the evening. My stomach is still churning I don't think the chef knew how to cook seafood or the seafood was bad from not being refrigerated. This place is a major thumbs down- do not waste your money I recommend Edos! There's a reason it's always jam packed but it much more worth the money. read more

I came here for Habachi, after discovering that my favorite Japanese spot, Gasho in Elmsford, had closed its doors. My family and I sat down at the table, and the prices were much, much higher than our beloved Gasho, so we decided to order off the regular menu. We all ordered different things, as the restaurant is Asian fusion. I had sushi while my brothers ate Chinese, and my Mom had Thai. For Americanized fusion food, the Thai and Chinese dishes were standard, similar to fast food take-out. The Thai was probably the best dish of all, but it was still just ok (but then again, I know real Thai food, so I'm sure I've been spoiled). As for the sushi, I couldn't finish eating it despite being hungry. The fish was not fresh, in fact, my friend who also ordered sushi, got sick later that night. I'm not holding back with this review because people deserve better than sub standard food, disguised by a swanky interior and high prices. Restaurants like this don't last; I've seen them come and go. Maybe if they stop taking themselves so seriously, and hire a talented chef, Buddha may have staying power. For now, try Red Plum in Mamaroneck instead. read more

Really bad! We had the steak hibachi which I assume was fine. However, the salmon hibachi and the scallop hibachi were horrible. Completely overcooked. Don't they know that seafood cooks for less time than other meats?! They came off the grill after the steak. Scallops only need to be seared. In addition, the guy dumped a whole bunch of what I think was teriyaki sauce on top of my scallops making they so salty that they were almost inedible! I can't figure out how this place has the same rating as Edo in Port Chester at the time that I checked. Someone else got the eel bowl/dinner and that was bad as well. We heard about Buddha from a friend who ate here and so I suggested we go there last night and so we did. Right from the get go the decor was a subtle rip off of Tao in NYC, (pronounced Dow by the way people not Ta-ow). They also ripped off another restaurant chain I've seen and have been to up in Hamden CT, actually they may even be the same company really as that one. Hibachi this isn't folks. I wish people on the East Coast would learn that this is style of cooking in Japan is Teppan Yaki and not Hibachi. Hibachi is done with hot burning coals and a grill. Teppan is done with a griddle/flat suface. Don't let anyone tell you different. Some idiot yelled out Hibachi 20 years ago and it has stuck now. But please stop calling it that. It's Teppan. The service. Our server Michelle was all over. Perfection. They were so fun and so nice. We would definitely go there again purely because of our server Michelle. Our cook was great too and a treat to dine with. The Food. Hands down I have to say 4.5 out of 5 this night. We plan on trying it again for that Hit or Miss ratio. I have to say it was fan-freaking-tastic. The salad dressing, a Ginger dressing that was a creamy one, was the best I've ever had. Better than mine even and I have awards for mine. Grrrrrrr. Damn them. We both had filet mignon and lobster tail and it was spot on perfect. Loved that they gave you shrimp and veggies and a choice of Brown, White or Fried Rice. Think Benihana's only 10x better. Noise: Too loud on this night and the parents with kids deal was out of hand. Not sure who was in charge this night. The kids or the parents. Most were just plain horrible letting their kids wreak havoc like it was freaking Chucky Cheese or something. Running around like little rug rats. And it was kid packed in there this night. So if you're looking to hold a conversation or be on a first date good luck with that. Hopefully they start a No Krazy Kid rule here. Doubt it though. Although Buddha in Rye Brook is open, they are not following Covid guidelines at all. Went there for a bday and they were ridiculously overcrowded, had every table full with no separation of tables, zero distancing between large parties and the worst of all was when the waiter put my daughters leftovers in a to-go box and used his BARE HANDS to scoop the overflowing noodles back in to the box. Threw the whole damn thing out because I wasn't about to give my child food someone else had touched without gloves on! Yes, I contacted the restaurant the next day and got a huge run around. So not worth the price we paid. In addition to that, the chef absolutely drenched my daughter and I in water ruining our night. We sat there soaking wet and dumbfounded over the fact he would do that. The hibachi food is delicious and I enjoy going; however, I try to stay away on Friday or Saturday nights because it tends to be very noisy. I went to Buddha because my wife was at a shower at the West Chester Country Club. I later found out that I could have eaten at the club but I was delighted that I went to Buddha. I had one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I had the Hiba steak which was accompanied by a delicious soup and a wonderful salad. I have dined and many of he 3 star (highest level) Michelin restaurants in Europe including Maximes in Paris but this was right up there with them. He would come by and take our unfinished food off of the table and say, "All done?" before it was too late to say NO. I was sad. I paid $20 for my food to be taken out of my hands. I had hot and sour veggie soup, hibachi noodles, and hibachi rice. Needless to say, it all tasted the exact same. You may be wondering, "How can soup and fried rice taste the exact same?" If you're in the area and don't want to go to White Plains, then it's a choice place with pretty much all you can think of from East Asia, although select foods. I recently went there for the 3rd time and had a pork pan friend dumplings and was really surprised - they were Hong Kong good... and the beef satay was decent too. My wife flipped on the scallion pancake - a perfect hang over dish since it's full of oil. They didn't quite understand that cilantro was, even though it's used in that side of the world, or what fresh chilies were. The waitress asked if we were ok with bell pepper and celery (as far from cilantro as garlic to the coco bean). Anyway, with much persistence we did get dried chillies with were pretty spicy. 95 bucks (including wine) later I was wondering if this place is that worth it. Whoa! Talk about Buddha, he's right there when you walk in! Or at least a giant statue sitting above a lovely little koi pond. The rest of the interior was very nice, though a little dark, especially for lunchtime. We were seated right away and our server was prompt in bringing our drinks and food. Not very personable but he did everything correctly and efficiently so I can't complain much. My bf got a spicy salmon roll which I kid you not, came out in 90 seconds or less. He also got the General Tsao's both of which he devoured while still leaving room to help me eat my yummy Thai basil chicken. I gave someone a piece of my dragon roll and they couldn't tolerate it. They said it was too fishy. I tried it again and realized they were right. It was very fishy. I've had dragon rolls countless times and it has never tasted like that before. Who knows if the food was fresh. If I get sick I'm going to post it on this site. We also got shrimp tempura appetizer. Interesting experience, I left my gloves at the restaurant and didn't realize it until 2 hrs later. I returned at 10 pm just as they were closing and getting ready to leave, I ran in quickly and stated I left my gloves at the table. I was anxious to come to Buddha because of the mixed reviews but we have now gone on more than one occasion and I have to say I absolutely love it! Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Buddha is very nice and upscale, definitely one of the nicer places to eat in Rye Brook. The lighting and sculptures gives it a lounge type atmosphere that's hip and upscale so it's a good place to go for a night out with friends or a date. Someone was having a birthday party on the hibachi side while we were there so they can also accommodate large groups. Food: All of the dishes we ordered were very tasty. We got the vegetarian lettuce wraps, pan fried dumplings, vegetable spring rolls and garlic eggplant. Everything was very fresh, cooked to perfection and the service was good. My husband and I always share the main dish because the portions are large enough that it's definitely a full meal even when split between two people. The menu has a great selection of vegetarian and vegan friendly items. Price: For the atmosphere and quality I feel the price is a bargain for what you get. Sushi pricing is exactly the same as other places around that don't have as nice of an atmosphere. We didn't eat hibachi but the people that were seemed really entertained by the show they were putting on. Overall we will definitely come back again. I have eaten here twice so far, and each time I had something different and both meals were really good. The side salad is just lettuce, but the house dressing is great! The prices are pretty reasonable and the service was always good. The soda from the fountain is not so great, but one can ask for a can of diet coke, which is perfect.
