Edamame was perfectly seasoned and firmness was on point. The portion was generous. Mountain roll was fresh, neatly prepared, a good combination of flavors, . I got the curry chicken and it was not so good. It was soupy, the amount of non sauce ingredients such as chicken and potatoes were scant and cut too tiny. Good sushi, quiet spot. However, despite its posted closing time of 9:30pm on Fridays, my date and I were rushed and pressured to leave by 8:50. Our waitress actually became rude and borderline aggressive about it, dropping the check while we were still eating, and then returned to our table three times before I could pay. Tried this for the first time and must admit the yelpers with the bad reviews (but no helpful constructive feedback on the place or the food - just negative comments and innuendo) had me think twice...I am glad I discounted these reviews. Food was fine and service was good. The sushi plate with the salmon, tuna and yellowtail along with a roll was the dinner. Sushi was fresh and tasted good. Tuna was high quality dark meat tuna and the roll was eel and avocado (it was heavy on the BBQ sauce). It was however more tasty than expected and higher quality. The sake was American which is not drinkable so I had to send it back and they were accommodating and replaced it with a lovely Ozeki sake. I must complain to Yelp. Why are reviews that say that the people in this place look Asian etc permitted? This is discriminatory and the review says nothing about the food or service. Not sure if there is a forum for complaints but someone needs to look at these reviews. I will go back. read more

This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants ever in Colorado or ever since I have been on the mainland for the last 48 years! Ever since I moved to Parker almost 6 years ago and this restaurant is about 2-1/2 miles from my home. The sushi and sashimi are always fresh, very tasty and cut/served to the right thickness. I am very familiar about fish since I am an Asian Pacific Islander. My father was captain of his own Tuna Vessel in Hawaii along with his older brothers and my grandfather. My grandfather's involvement was very instrumental in starting the commercial Tuna fishing in Hawaii which is now called Unted Fishing Agency. I always like to go to Shoyu Sushi and have enjoyed everything on your menu. One of my favorites is your Assorted Poke (Tuna or Salmon or a combination of both) since I have eaten it since my early childhood days. The servers that have waited on me are Aliano and Sam. I have also met Lilly who has an enthusiastic bubbling personality. They are all great and very friendly and efficient at what they do for me! Most of all your restaurant is very spacious and clean and I was thinking about bringing my senior Hawaiian Club members for lunch on a Wednesday in the very near future. I ordered a selection of food that was well over $30, their delivery minimum, and they forgot one of my orders. I called the place back and the manager was on the phone. I asked if they could deliver the order they forgot, as I was not able at the time to drive to the store. She told me that I could not do that, as my order that they forgot was only $6 and their minimum was $30. She was rude, obnoxious, and unreasonable. I was on the phone with her for 25 minutes, she constantly kept on leaving me on hold, and refused to be a kind person. Shoyu Sushi - when you work at a restaurant, you are supposed to be kind. This has got to be THE BEST sushi place in Westchester that I ever tried. I actually stumbled on this place one day, and now it's my place to go to. The sushi is Very fresh always. The servers are also very kind and inviting. The place is very authentic Japanese inside. To the right, beautiful tatami-like wooden booths, and to the left regular booths, and tables in the middle. It is smaller than most restaurants, but very well spaced and decorated with a lot of creativity, but not overdone. I love this place, and if you love sushi this is the place to go! :-) read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews here. I know it was only my first time, but my experience was fairly good. The yellowtail and salmon tasted good (and looked fresh), and the service was decent. Prices are reasonable, so what is there to complain? And there's plenty of parking in the front...or off to the side. read more

Why do people think this place is authentic???? It is not a Japanese restaurant. Chinese chefs, Chinese waitresses, Chinese music, even the decorations are just Japanese style but written in Chinese. We even had a nice conversation with the waitress in Chinese. But good for them. Go to some rich, white neighborhood, charge 20 bucks for some mixed vegetables with soy sauce, and the Scarsdale soccer moms won't know the difference. I was curious about this place for a while and went with my husband on a Sunday and it was empty so we didn't walk in. We came back a couple of weeks later mid week and it was busier and loved it for a few months but then we went one day for lunch and the sushi chef had a horrible cough which made me feel grossed out about having sushi while he was coughing mid winter in a bad flu outbreak. We didn't go back for a few months than we decided to stop in again and upon walking in to only one table being occupied we were told we couldn't sit in the large comfortable booth but in the tiny booth across from there which seemed ridiculous since the place was basically empty why not let us sit there. The woman was so rude about it and basically screamed at us for trying to sit there that we just left as the other woman came over to offer water. Definitely not going back. read more

Sushi is fresh, probably a better spot to order and pick up rather than eat in. The booth seating is absurdly uncomfortable and the service is pretty bad. Pros: Food comes out quickly Cons: Service does not check in regularly and don't pay attention at all. They also make it seems like once you get your food they want you to leave. So first the customer service was terrible. As my husband and I were looking at the menu the waitress came by 3 times within 10 minutes, seeming more impatient with every time she visited. The last time she stood there with her pad out and we had to decide what we wanted at that moment. So we had a brief discussion in front of her and made our order. I also ordered something that was never delivered... which was fine because I wanted to leave. Checked the charges and it was not on there. The food was sub-par and the rolls fell apart in our hands. The whole experience felt rushed and the atmosphere felt too quiet, slightly hostile and rushed. Also too expensive for what it is!! I visited Shoyu this afternoon with a group of 8. Even though they were open, the second we opened the door we saw the waiters/waitresses lying on the booths. I guess they thought they could take a nap while they waited for customers to come in. Then, we ordered for the table and the waitress seemed annoyed that we didn't order "enough" but I made her well aware that I was going to order more; I just wanted the group to taste the different types of rolls before I ordered for each person. I, as a customer, was made to feel self conscious about my order. The experience was unpleasant to say the least, which is unfortunate because the sushi was good! read more

I have gone here many times, and usually the udon soup and sushi is pretty good, albeit a little overpriced. However, last weekend I ordered delivery, and when the sushi arrived, there were dead bugs sitting atop my sushi. It was absolutely disgusting! We used to enjoy coming here, but it has gone downhill, and after today we will never come back. The chicken was served RAW. We did not even receive an apology or acknowledgment. The only response we got was "the ends of the chicken were cooked"...which really doesn't help anything. The waitresses were very rude and hovered over us while we paid the bill.
