I've been going to Buddy's for a few years now. Recently, I was quoted 1k for some maintenance on my car from Honda, but when I called Buddy's they quoted me around $600. When it was all said and done, it actually came out to a little over $500. Buddy's is fair, honest, and reasonably priced. As a woman, I really appreciate the fact they don't treat me differently and I trust their judgement, which is more than I can say for other shops. Truly a hidden gem in Scottsdale. My air started blowing warmer. I dropped it off to Buddys. I was prepared for the worst, 1000.00s of dollars. (Been there with other shops) after they looked at it it was just a plugged cabin filter. This is the best mechanic that I have ever experienced! Lets start with the phone call they were so patient with me I Know nothing about cars and get very nervous when calling they made me feel so comfortable and didn't rush me when I attempted to tell them what's going on. I took my car to a different mechanic first and they told me so many scary things that could happen with my car and priced me over $1000 for repairs. I brought my docs from them here and they told me that half the things didn't even need to get done right away! As a female going to a mechanic is an absolute nightmare and I will avoid it at all cost but not here, I know coming here that they will be honest and so kind. Got oil change service at Buddy's for our car. First time customers. They had listed 3 recommended services on the invoice, the 3 items totaling over $3500. Sought a second opinion at Husband's Auto Repair. They found no problem with the two most costly items Buddy's recommended, no work needed. The other item (rear brake job) they performed at a cost that was over $300 less than Buddy's quoted. I'm at a complete loss over the glowing reviews. read more

Buddy's was recommended by a friend, and it has a lot of great reviews, so I thought it was a safe bet. They were friendly and courteous, and seemed to do a good job on my truck. However, when I got home I took a closer look at the bill. I noticed the front struts they replaced cost $563.50. each, for parts alone. It seemed high, so I checked the price of these parts myself. For the same KYB struts they installed, I could get them for $221.84. off Amazon, and $265. off Autozone. This means I was charged over double for these parts! This prompted me to look at the other parts on the invoice. I had my spark plugs replaced with Motorcraft. Buddy's charged me $29.73 for each plug. I could buy the exact plug off Amazon for $9.24 ea., and $12.00 each from Autozone. In this case I was charged over 3x the amount! On top of that, they charged me $223.00 for labor to install 6 plugs (claiming it takes 1.4 hours at $160.00 per hour for labor)! On my F150, these are easy to change (shouldn't take more that 45 minutes). When I called to talk to Jeremy regarding these issues, he said they pay more for these parts than I could get them myself. How is that possible? I asked him if I could speak to the manager, or the owner, and he said he was the assistant manager, and that they would say the same thing. When I asked if he thought this was fair to charge this much, it got pretty quiet. I told him I should get a partial refund. Again, silence. He did say, when he quoted me the prices, I was fine with it. He's right. I should have shopped around first. When he called to give me the estimate, I was surprised at the high prices. I asked for some discount, so he reluctantly gave me 10% off labor (it wasn't offered). In conclusion, I would not recommend Buddy's. Even if they do excellent work, the appalling prices on parts, is unacceptable. And, over $400.00 to change 6 spark plugs (parts + labor). Does anyone out there think this is fair? Or, is it fair to charge your customers over double, and sometimes triple, for parts? To me, it's a real eye opener. My advice: shop around, and ask lots of questions. See if they can justify their inflated prices. read more

Recently circumstances have placed me on the west side of Phoenix. When my check engine light came on I immediately thought of Buddy's and called to bring my car in for them to check out. When they tell me what's wrong I can trust they aren't padding the bill and will fix my car right. I relied on Buddy's for many years, often for some oddball Jeep needs and was very pleased, commending them to a number of my coworkers. But a few years back they changed hands, and with that the personal, reliable touch seemed to wane. My last job was a Jeep Wrangler heater core replacement, which is a tedious, labor-intensive job of removing dash, steering wheel, and a zillion connections to remove the HVAC box and get at the $35 heater core. I was in the middle of moving and didn't want to tackle it, so gave it to Buddy's. Mistake. Upon picking it up, I found that the vacuum lines were not attached so the defrost/panel/floor settings did nothing, which prompted a return trip and fix. Then I found they left the 12 VDC connections for my auxiliary lighting off--finding them squished behind the battery. Fixed that myself. Moved north, and for the next year I found myself finding other connections loose, and a serious electrical issue prompted by a ground that was improperly secured. But the kicker was when I had to replace the core again. This time I did it myself, and once the dash was out I found evidence of seriously slap-dash work: the defroster tube wasn't even bolted down on the two mounting studs and worse, the single interior bolt for the HVAC box--which snugs the box against the various outlets to prevent air leakage--was completely missing. And they had overtightened one of the firewall mounting bolts, which stripped the stud set in the HVAC box. In all fairness, they seemed good folks; always friendly, the prices consistent with the market, and willing to work with some non-standard parts and accessories. But this seems the culmination of a downhill slide, and I'd be cautious giving them any kind of complex job. read more

I was having issues with the ride of Odyssey. And since I had just purchased an expensive set of Michelin tires I made an appointment with Steve at Buddy's for an alignment and check out the issue with the ride I left the car at the shop and walked over to a nearby coffee shop. I wasn't there more than 15 minutes when I got a call from the shop letting me know I needed a wheel bearing and hub assembly. I was given two options and when for the lengthier warranty. They told me the car would be ready by noon. The car was actually ready at 11 am and then I was on my way. The Odyssey now rides perfectly, almost like it's brand new. While there was no way to check the pricing on wheel bearing & hub assembly when Buddy's called me, I did check afterwards. The price was well with the normal charges for parts and labor. I would have no issues taking the van back to Buddy's for any additional repairs. read more

Sloppy work and completely slapped together. Went in for a water pump and had asked for my lower control arms to be done. They told me they could press in the bushings and ball joints to both sides. The cost was extremely high but I figured they were pros. Hell no. I left them bushings, ball joints, and a master control arm kit to make it easier. They said they could take care of it. I also had a motor mount and alignment done. When I picked up the car the alignment was terrible. The car pulled heavily to one side. After 3 days a bolt flew out of my strut! The nut went down a storm drain but I retrieved the bolt. I called to inform them about this and they didn't care. Told me to take it somewhere else and have them fix it. I could fix it myself but I wanted to let them know this wasn't done right. I looked further and I saw that my ball joints were not done. They were completely Shot! Metal grinding on metal. I called again and asked why my ball joints were not done. They said the tech didn't see anything wrong with them and were in good working order. They were Shot! They replaced the bushings but not the ball joints. How are they that dumb? Those new bushing are now being over worked because the ball joint is shot! They then told me they didn't see ball joints in the car. As I had them in my hand in the car. They say ball joints on them. They proceeded to lie and tell me they were, tie rods? I thought they were certified but they can't tell the difference between a ball joint and a tie rod! Not only was this not fixed but they put the Cv-axel nut on wrong. They did not pin the nut down, instead they just tightened it. They charged me 500$ and only bushing got done. Bushings that I bought. The only thing they could do for me is give me a free alignment. Are you kidding me, like I'd ever bring my car to that slop shop again. They couldn't even align it right the first time because the ball joints were shot. Oh, but they still made me pay for the first alignment. 1,450$ was the bill. A few days later I put in the ball joints, that they claimed were tie rods. One goes in with no issues, the other one is stripped and bent! Brand new ball joints and one is damaged! I couldn't even get it to thread through. Pretty sure they denied ever seeing those ball joints because they damaged it. The annoying part is, one guy will be polite and professional. Whereas the other guy could care less. I work all in that area and on cars. I don't think I'd recommend buddy's auto to anyone. read more

We are on vacation from California and noticed my steering was shaking at 60mph? So we went on Yelp and found Buddys. They took really good care of my car. My car needed a rubber bushing in steering column and a front end alignment. He also rotated my tires and had him do an oil change. Plus he gave us a loaner car to use. We've taken both of our cars to Buddy's a few times now, in the last year. They've done everything from oil changes to new brakes and rotors. And this most recent job they did for us will be their last. I would think that customer loyalty would be important to them, but I can tell you it absolutely isn't. This latest go round, we needed a new battery and new brakes/rotors. They then quoted us a price that was practically DOUBLE what Airpark quoted us. Really? You've serviced both of our cars multiple times and are still trying to take us for a ride? (no pun intended). Buddy's quoted us something like $350 for new brakes/rotors. Airpark? $185-$190...that's a HUGE difference and as soon as we called Buddy's to see if they'd match it, they immediately agreed. Meaning, they were just trying to make an extra $160 on repeat customers. Pretty bad business practice. We'll be taking all of our future business to Airpark. read more

We have been Buddy's fans for some time - service was friendly and pretty fast. However, I refuse to be ripped off with inflated prices so Buddy's is now off of my list. I took our Pilot in to get an oil change and have a warning light checked out. Jason called and left a message to say that I needed a new battery (as I figured) and new rear brakes (also something needed). So what is my gripe? I was quoted over the phone $350 for a rear brake job. Thinking this seemed like a lot I called Airpark Auto for a quote - $185 - $190 for rear pads and rotors is what I was told. I called Buddy's back and Jason promptly matched the price. To be $20 or so off from shop to shop is one thing. To ask $160-ish more is ridiculous and means I cannot trust their quotes moving forward. My friend Jon has been going to Airpark for years and I will now be taking our cars there. Shady place. They pretend to be extremely professional and nice but once the bill comes they change. I was told a certain price and when the bill came it was more. I asked why and was laughed at, told it's not really that much more. So? It was only about 10 more but why tell me a difference price to start with? Is that common practice for alignments? Since you decided to mention the cost of alignments I'll comment. Network alignment is cheaper and Firestone offers a lifetime alignment deal for 180 or so. I don't know what dealer you go to but I doubt it's 200. I'll decline your offer to come back, even if you paid me I'd never bring my car there again. The shop I took it to after visiting you lifted the car and showed me the parts and how they were not worn. Saying a competitors opinion is not good is laughable. They turned me away and told me I didn't need to spend any money with them! You told me I need to replace parts, they told me I didn't. How is their opinion bad? You didn't show me the "worn" parts. They showed me the parts were fine. An honest shop wouldn't give a fake list of parts that needed to be replaced or change the price on a customer, which another review claims you did. I'm going to give them 5 stars all across the board. We've been trying to put in good shape our old 2001 Dodge Dakota. With terrible experiences with other auto repair shops. I found Buddy's business card on my windshield and decided to give them a try. They fixed the issues we had with our truck in a timely and efficient way. This was over a year ago. We kept going back to them and now our old truck is looking and running better than ever with an AC working great in our Arizona heat. We still have more work to do in the truck and definitely will be back to them. They never keep the truck overnight, So far. The job is usually done the same day and we got a loaner car every time our truck is in their shop for repairs or maintenance. I never had a problem scheduling an appointment and Brian always explain very clearly the charges of the repairs and the recommendations for next time. We will go to Buddy's Alignment & Auto Shop for all of our auto services in the future. read more

Again, Buddy's did an excellent job! I have a custom car that I built starting from a bare frame to a complete sports car so you can imagine I'm very protective of my baby. The only guy I've ever let touch it is Rob at Buddy's. For the second time, he did a 4-wheel alignment after I upgraded a few things on the car and, of course, it again drives beautifully. Previously, he charged the air conditioning since that's another job that requires machinery and skills I don't have. A friend recommended Buddy's (apparently Buddy's kept their car in good shape up to 200,000 miles!)... they were so great. They recommended getting one service, and the cost very reasonable (especially compared to what I paid at the dealership). I have only great things to say about Buddy's. They were incredibly helpful and very honest with me. I found them using yelp and I sought them out for a second opinion. Sun Devil auto in North Scottsdale told me I had THREE broken engine mounts and would have charged me over 850 dollars! Buddy's shop looked at my car for free and informed me that I only had TWO broken mounts and quoted me at about 600 dollars. They got me into the shop the very next day and had my car completely fixed before the end of the same day. They also charged me 30 dollars less than the original quote. I am looking for a location to get my alignment done, so I am calling around to local shops to see what their prices are and what kind of equipment they use. well I just got off the phone with the lady at Buddy's and she asked what kind of car I have and I told her, and she told me it would be 100 bucks.
