This was our second our visit to the chain and first in this place. Our server was really nice. Starters were good but the main pizza (Mediterranean) came out very bad. I love Buddy's and consider it the Detroit standard for Pizza. This location is considered "newer" in my book as it's only opened in the past few years. Most of the locations I've been to have been open for decades. The decor here is similar to the other locations, but it seems so much bigger and brighter! Current decor, large bar area, and of course, plenty of seating. We were seated immediately in a Saturday evening, and we loved it. Literally walked in and the hostess seated us immediately. The menu here is obviously the same, and the people I was with all wanted something different instead of piling on for one big pizza. I got the Detroiter pizza with Minestrone soup and a glass of wine. The alcohol selection here on the menu seems a bit limited, but I'm sure if I had a special request, They would've made it for me. Being that I was absolutely starving, I didn't have the energy to order off the menu. Service here was good, but it felt like either they were busy or short staffed a person. Another warm body would've been great. I could tell because it seemed like the same two or three girls running the floor like crazy and only one bartender at the bar on a Saturday night. I am a Buddy's ride or die so I wanted my husband to experience what I am used to at other locations. I am soo disappointed what we just spent our money on. The pizza was cold when got it home and the bread was just lumps of old bread that had absolutely nothing on them. I hate that this was his first experience. While the pizza itself is pretty good it's overpriced and overrated. I'd give the pizza maybe 3 stars for what you are getting. The service I would give negative 5 stars to this location. We had a terrible waitress the first time who left all the plates to pile up. No refills on anything. It wasn't until the end the manager realized what a complete mess the table was, with stacks of dirty dishes piled up. He apologized so we gave the restaurant another chance. Our second experience was worse. Our server was very awkward and made way too much conversation when it was clear we didn't want to talk all night. She got our order wrong after I repeated it clearly twice. She said the thin crust had 4 slices. Same thing our last waitress did. It has 6 slices. We were given a wrong pizza and when we acknowledged it she got very defensive. Instead of taking it she left it for the entirety of the meal, probably hoping we'd eat it and she wouldn't have to find a manager. Her tone at the end was snippy, condescending, rude. The manager didn't come to the table even though they knew something was wrong. This was around 4:30 on a weekday in a nearly empty restaurant and I watched him walk around the entire time doing next to nothing. I will go once in awhile for carryout but will never dine in at this careless and unprofessional location again. read more

Goodness, I hate to leave a one star because the first time I ate there, it was actually really good but ever since then it has been awful. I ordered a pizza yesterday and whoever made it was extremely lazy. It was a simple pepperoni pizza. The sauce was in a couple of big clumps in the middle of the pizza so most of it didn't have any sauce at all. It was way overcooked and completely stuck to the paper underneath it. I recently moved from San Diego to the area. I was under the impression Detroit had good pizza and maybe there is good pizza here, but not at buddies. read more

Great setting and service for our party of 11 from Tracey. Like all other Buddy's, nothing compares to the original spot on Conant. For some reason, same signature char cannot be replicated across the chain. That said, it really does not disappoint either. If you changed the name, you would 't say a thing. Pies are delicious if a little under sauced and they may have the best chicken wings in a pizza joint around. 3.5 for food, higher marks for local and service. read more

The manager is extremely rude! We came in for our fundraiser to support a local clinic that provides therapy to kids with autism. The manager was clearly irritated by all the kids we brought in and went out of his way to make us feel uncomfortable. He was not friendly or welcoming at all. Lack of empathy for sure. read more

Got my order wrong for the third time we've ordered. I've never called until today. Young man that answered the phone took the complaint and essentially said, "Sorry, but what do you want me to do about it. I've already said sorry." We paid for the items- at minimum you should offer to refund me for the item I didn't get. He offered to get the manager on the phone, but only after I expressed that I think just saying sorry was not enough now that they've gotten my money three times without recompensing us. West Bloomfield and Warren locations are run so well, great customer service- we'll be avoiding this one from now on. read more

I have never had such a rude server. Mary Beth was our waitress. She was short and rude right from the start. We had about 8 in our party, and I don't know if it's because the tip was already included so she didn't feel like she had to be nice, but her tone was condescending and just plain nasty. We had some questions about their dairy free cheese and not only did she not know anything about what we asked (it's stated clearly on menu), but made numerous condescending comments about our questions surrounding it. After that experience, I wouldn't recommend that location to anyone. read more

I've been waiting to go back to Buddy's for some time now as I have been back for some time. This was my first time trying the Shelby location and right off the bat, it was massive inside. You have your typical Buddy's style decor with nice nods to Michigan all over the wall. My party was seated promptly and the service was great. We ended up ordering the Spicy Italian, the Henry Ford, and the Detroiter. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the crust as it didn't seem to get as much of a rise/wasn't as thick as I remembered from other locations. But other than the crust, everything was still up to standard. The cheese and toppings across all three were great and always, and the Henry Ford with the Blue cheese was a pleasant surprise (first time trying). Overall great experience. read more

Who doesn't enjoy Buddy's? Even before moving to Michigan, we knew Buddy's was the place to go. The fact that they have gluten free crust is the cherry on top. A four square gluten free pizza with fries is our go to order. Their ranch sauce is delicious. We've enjoyed ourselves while dining here, even when an Oops or two happens. Ordered from here the other day while in town for work. I came here two years ago when in the area and was so excited to come back! I got a 4 slice Detroiter with a side of blue cheese and a tiramisu. The pizza was okay. It was very lacking in sauce. It honestly tasted way better cold the next day. The blue cheese was gross I was not at all a fan of whatever type they use. The tiramisu was very tasty though. I think I'll have to try a different spot for Detroit pizza next time read more

My last three experiences with Buddy's have provided a very solid pizza experience. The pizza has pretty darn good - today's was great. I'm increasing my rating because the pizza has been stellar. It seems like Buddy's has heard and responded to a chorus of complaints about the dip in quality and focused on quality. I hope that continues - because Buddy's deserves to be the top Detroit pizza. I'm still not giving it 5-stars for two reasons: The antipasto salad is still a sad example of what this salad was. It's poorly topped with salami, ham and cheese -- and overall, they're not bothering to fill the container all the way. Secondly, a couple of good experiences do not fix the poor experiences over the last few years. If the good pizza continues - they will deserve another star. If the good pizza continues and they fix the salad? Then they're a 5-star place again. Please fix the salad. read more

Went to the Shelby location last night for dinner. Usually, we go to the Troy restaurant which can have hit or miss service. Bigger than the Troy location and we got sat right away. Server was awesome and attentive. Both the Hawaiian pizza and the pepperoni pizza were great. It should be known that the Hawaiian pizza has BBQ sauce on it (we didn't read the menu). The antipasto salad was standard. The Buddy bread fresh and great. Got a cup of the minestrone soup and that was delightful! What a nice surprise. Lastly, ordered the cheese ravioli with meat sauce. Was good as well. They had Sam Adams Cherry Wheat on tap which is my fav. All of this to say it was a great dinner! read more

New Buddy's in town! Hurry in and get your name on the list. We were told it would be a 40 minute wait but actually it was about ten minutes. Kelsey, our waitress, is a happy and kind person. She took great care of our table of four. We brought grandma here for dinner on the Friday after Christmas. Appetizer: We started off with their antipasto salad which fed all of us AND still had leftovers. Main meal: Original Detroit-Style pizza and a Super pizza. Leftovers. Hurray! I'm a big fan of their Buddy Brew beer. Hubby tried Labatt Blue from Canada. So happy that there are more Buddy's Pizza joints popping up all around MI. Hoping to try the Kalamazoo location (coming soon) next time we come to MI. Large dining room with tons of tables all around in different aisles to make it more homey. LOVE BUDDY'S PIZZA! We have gone to the locations downtown (Conant), Warren, Novi, and Dearborn. This is a great location and they will be a great addition to this area. Let's start with service. It was excellent; our server (Kelsey) was excellent and we were told 45 minute wait that ended up being 15 minutes. For food we ordered the Antipasto Salad to start; this Salad has chopped meats and cheeses with a lite Italian dressing. Our pizzas were The Super and The Detroit one with pepperoni. Everyone loved the pizzas. We live in Chicago and these pizzas are just better. I remain so excited that this location has opened and I am begging Buddy's to open a location in Schaumburg, or, at least, downtown Chicago. The Michigan transplants will keep them busy! read more

This was my first time dining at the Shelby location, as I usually frequent the Warren location. I never knew there was a Shelby location, until a friend told me about it. I was satisfied with the fact that I was able to sit out in the outside patio area, and it wasn't as crowded as I assumed (it was 6:00 in the evening on a Friday). There were more customers ordering carry out opposed to dining in. I usually order the same food; so I ordered the Wings, and the Detroiter 8 square pizza. I also tried the Antipasto Salad. Everything was really good, as expected! Service was good, and there wasn't a wait for food! As I am thinking that maybe since the Shelby location is a little lo-key, I wouldn't mind going back! We went to Buddy's Pizza for something different, we first met there 15-years ago, a meet and greet. We found that the service by, Zoe our waitress was excellent, the food was very good, we ate a meatball sub and Carole had a Chicken pita sandwich.
