We accidentally left behind my daughter's wallet when returning our rental car at theTampa airport. We realized within 20 minutes. We immediately ran back to the rental area. After some time they said they located the wallet but the money was taken out of it. $200! The manager proceeded to tell us that he watched the cameras and no money was taken, although the manager would not allow me to see his badge/name and couldn't tell me who found the wallet. Reserved a rental and get to the Guess Rd location and they say they do not have any inventory. He said I would have to wait for a return. I said why didn't you call me and say such. He advised he wasn't the owner. I then stated I wanted a refund and he hands me a piece of paper and says call customer service. The man in there is rude - owner or not. When I mentioned that the car they probably assigned to me had dog hair, and I was allergic... he said "that's probably as good as it's going to get." A car was successfully rented and returned. And they are open on weekends, so that was convenient. That said, there were a few issues. The first issue was the pre- check to assess prior damage - averted disaster. This was a car that was definitely smoked in previously and there was even an unnoticed cigarette burn (hole in fabric) on the passenger seat. On both things we had to go back in and make sure they were noted (it was NOT on the initial pre-check) so we didn't get blamed for it. There is a sticker for a $250 penalty for smoking, so I'm not about to get stuck with that. There was some strong cologne or air freshener smell in there to cover it up (by the previous renter or the owner, who can say), but the smoke smell is unmistakable. My gag reflex doesn't lie. The second main issue was the drop off and associated attitude. We turned it in three hours early with the correct amount of gas and no animal hair just as was emphasized and obligated. No big deal. Fine. $300 for 500 miles. But THEN upon the return, the clerk made a big deal about not charging us THIS TIME for us not vacuuming out the "sand." Now, this was a vehicle one person used for work, it's not like we all went to the beach and brushed off all the sand and dirt from our feet and ass cracks in there. There was no vomit or any bodily fluid. I might even charge for that, I don't know, but you still have to make that known beforehand - and I don't know how much you can legally require of a customer in that regard. If vacuuming and detailing the car is required, though, that should be a signed agreement, like bringing it back without new dents or cigarette burns, but this bringing it back ready to rent to the next person is a very odd and unreasonable expectation to spring on someone. That seems like a business model problem. I get that you need to save money, but that's not the place to cut corners. It's going to require maybe a new guy to clean the cars and do maintenance. And also more than a hand held vacuum. Also, this should've been a red flag... Upon arriving to rent the car, there was a gentleman who reserved a truck who was reasonably peeved that this location didn't have what he requested and they weren't about to remedy the situation. He was told to go to the back of the line and call customer service and complain to them. It may have been just a bad two days that we happened to see, but this was what happened. Customer service needs to be a bit more of a priority. Maybe we are out of the customer is always right era, but customers are paying for something and I'm guessing businesses still want repeat business, so there's that. Enterprise has always been good for us, but sadly they weren't open on Sunday. read more

This location will charge you up to 150 extra if the car isn't returned in absolutely pristine condition. It won't be rented to you in pristine condition though! Renter beware. We have always rented from enterprise on hillsborough and never had this problem. Won't be returning to this spot ever again. read more

I arrived at this location after making aon online reservation. According to them they do not have their inventory linked to budget site. When I inquired about solutions after having taken a car service to get there, the attendant was very rude and actually held up a brochure and pointed to fine print to tell me it was my fault with maybe the most condescending voice imaginable. They had a very dirty cape pet and did not even have seats in their waiting area. This is the second bad service experience I've had at this location . I will definitely never go here again. Told myself I'd write a good review assuming all went well since this place has been slammed in the comments (most of which are quite dated) First off the price was amazing! 5 day -1 way rental to NJ for cheap! No idea why it was so cheap unless Budget needs to get trucks back north...But Ill take it. Truck had 144k miles on it and I drove 10+ hours straight without a single issue. Was recently maintenance per the schedule posted on the inside of the truck wall. Communication via email prior to pickup was on point and the guy behind the desk was friendly and professional. Truck had its war wounds but it was all well documented and made drop off in a breeze. Cant say much more besides give this place shot. read more

This place is a rip off joint. Their prices are higher than other Budget rental. They have "rules" that no other Budget uses that they apply arbitrarily. The place seems to be owned by a family and the father is the worst! Don't use him. He asked me if my credit was good because he was going to have to run a credit check! They placed a $100 hold on my Amex account because it was a credit card but if I had used a debit, they would have only place a $50 hold. What? Corporate does not have these rules. Reserve on line! I moved this past weekend and opted to use friends as movers instead of getting a moving company. Since I've never rented a moving truck before I went right with the standard UHaul, which turned out to be a complete disaster. At the suggestion of a friend I then looked up Budget Car Rental and I am so glad I did. I was able to secure a truck through the Budget located by Northgate mall and the staff was excellent. As soon as my friend and I walked in we were greeted by one of the staff members and he quickly looked up our reservation. The only hiccup was the truck we had reserved was unavailable, but this was not a problem since the staff member quickly upgraded us to the next available size free of charge. I have never experienced such courtesy or willingness to correct a mistake this fast in any type of car service. The overall price of the truck was a steal All in all, I really enjoyed using Budget Car Rental and if I ever need to rent a car instead of a moving truck these guys will def be top on my list. read more

This location rented me a moving truck with two outdated inspections. The truck had broken shocks and rusted out spring. After driving two hours north, the truck broke down and Budget stranded us for over 25 hours on the side of the highway. We ended up renting another truck from U-Haul and unloading our stuff from the Budget truck into the new U-Haul. Budget has yet to give us a sincere apology or reimburse our expenses. The prepaid car was not available when I arrived to pick it up. I have used this site around 10 times over the past year for business. I prepay to ensure there is a car available when I go to pick it up. They informed that my car was rented to someone else because I was an hour late from the pickup time used on the web site. How can they rent that car to someone else. That is renting one car and getting paid twice. Although 3 employees were sitting at their desk shooting the breeze, a fourth person was handling the desk, picking up the cars and going through checkout with customers, so needless to say it took a while to get to the desk to find out my car was rented to a walk-in and to be informed it was my fault for not being there before the walk-in came, even though I had already paid for the car. My fault entirely for continuing to use this site after I had been downgraded once before because my pre-paid car was not available, and once having a car with badly used tires, however I have now learned my lesson about renting from this site and picked up a replacement car at Hertz which was available and was a mid-size SUV instead of an economy car for virtually the same price. read more

I reserved a 26ft truck from this location a month prior to my planned move. 2 days prior to my move down to Florida, I arrived at the location at which I had reserved the truck, on time, and they told me the truck wasn't available. My father in law took the day off of work to help with the moving. They said they had an available truck an hour and a half away that we could use. We simply did not have time to take out of our day to spend half the day driving to get a new truck that was far away, not to mention, it would have been more expansive to drive that far with a diesel truck. They then offered 2 16ft trucks but, of course, we don't have the man power to drive two trucks and our two cars down to Florida. My dad is already flying down to help drive the truck so we can drive our cars. We ended up going with uhaul. We called uhaul and they had a truck available right then and there, and they were very nice. The budget team didn't even know if the truck that we were supposed to take was fixed after over heating. No one knew anything. I definitely won't be using budget ever again. read more

This is for a truck rental. Short story: I needed a one way rental. Booked online a couple days before. I called to confirm they had our truck before I got there, they said good to go. I got there (after 2 hour road trip specifically to move) and they didn't have any trucks, let alone our truck. They directed us to another store 30 mins away that wouldn't answer phone and we never got the truck. More complete story: To give you some context, I was doing a one way rental from Durham to Greensboro. I reserved a truck online because budget seemed to be cheaper than U-Haul for a bigger truck even. Everything seemed to be fine during that process. My parents live in Richmond where I also spend 50% of my time for work. My parents said they would help me move over the weekend so we headed down to Durham from Richmond on Saturday morning. I made the reservation for 1 pm because I knew they closed at 2 on Saturdays and I figured I would give myself a cushion. We called about 45 mins beforehand to make sure that there were no problems and get specific directions. They told us where they were next to so we could easily find it. They told us that they had us down for the correct reservation and everything was all set. So we get there at 1 and they tell us that there is an "inventory problem". They didn't have any trucks let alone ours. After not apologizing (which just added insult to injury), they told us that the Raleigh location had the 16 footer we were looking for. I asked him to call to make sure and he did but the store wasn't answering so he was then put on hold. I immediately called U-Haul to see if they had anything, they didn't. I then gave him my cell phone number to call me when he got through to the Raleigh store to confirm that they had our vehicle (or even A vehicle) and got in the car to head down to the Raleigh store. I also then called the Raleigh store myself but I guess their system defaults to the corporate number if the local office doesn't pick up right away. The problem with the corporate office is that they don't know a stores local inventory apparently. So we started calling around to other places. There are about 20 U-Haul individual "neighborhood dealers" around Raleigh so we started calling those and Penske and Ryder and others... We finally found one that had one after about 30 mins on phone. We never made it to the Raleigh store because I had to pull over to help my parents find these locations, and phone numbers and such and cars were pulling up behind me at some points (oh it was a disaster...). So I never found out if there was a 16 footer at the Raleigh store because we never made it. That store was 30 mins away from the one in Durham so with all the other frantic calling around and a couple u-turns, we never made it. So, we found a U-Haul that had one and since we couldn't get in touch with the Raleigh office, we turned around and headed towards the sure thing. Well ... we moved and chose Budget because of the online deal ... when i arrived at the store, there were 2 men (a short bald black man and a very greasy fellow) and a woman working. i asked the rep (greasy) at the store if i could pay cash for the truck in cash when we dropped it off and he would refund the deposit. The bald man came out from behind the counter and told me they do not accept cash anymore (which is illegal in NC, all debts have to have the option to be paid in cash) i was a little upset and simply asked him his name so i could know who i was dealing with. He SLAMMED his hands down on the counter, looked me straight in the face and said, "get out of my store you fucking stupid bitch." i was APPALLED. i again asked him his name because now i am upset, he says, "Fuck you, you stupid bitch, you do not need to know my name." i said, how will i know who to complain about if i dont have your name? he says, " Fuck you bitch, i will fucking kill you." i am NOT KIDDING. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. i told him i was calling the police. My boyfriend was waiting in the car and i went and grabbed my phone, when i told him what was going on, he approached the door to speak to this man. the man then locked the door in his face and told him to leave. the police arrived and told me i was able to press charges for communicating threats but i declined because to be honest, i am a little scared of this man and do not want him to know anything more than he already does about me (all of my info was given to budget when reserving!!) The police gave me the card of the manager of the location, Nat Oliveri. i called and spoke to Nat, the first time he told me he would just refund our money and that he thought i should press charges. he said he would call me back in a few days and let me know about the refund. i have not heard from him so i called today, today he told me he didnt know if we "deserved" a refund because we didnt fill the tank with the appropriate amount of gas. He also told me that the man who worked theres name is "confidential," i have the paperwork showing that it was a 3/4 of a tank when we picked it up which is the same amount Mr. Oliveri says it was returned with. i again asked him to refund our money, he now says that i need to contact customer service and request the refund and that he would approve it. i will be taking my complaint as high as possible and working to get our money back, not because we need it but simply because this is wrong and it is the least they can do. FRIENDS, I AM WARNING YOU, PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET AND IF YOU DO, CAREFULLY CONSIDER WHICH LOCATION YOU ARE RENTING FROM AND STAY AWAY FROM GUESS RD. read more

We rented a Ford Expedition prior to heading to the beach for a family vacation. This rental was paid for in advance, online. The day of pick up, my wife called to tell them that she was running late getting out of work at the hospital. She's a nurse in a surgical recovery room, so she had good reason. She was informed that if she did not arrive at the scheduled pick up time, our car could possibly be given away to someone else arriving early. However, this did not make a lot of sense, since we had previously been told we could not pick up our car prior to the scheduled date and time...so, if somebody else arrived early, how could they get our car?? Regardless, she hurried out as soon as she could and rushed down there. On arrival, the rude attendant proceeded to tell my wife that Budget would be losing money since we were late picking the car up. How is that possible, since we've already paid for the car?? Wouldn't WE be the ones losing out, since we've already paid for that reserved time frame? When my wife tried to discuss these points with the attendant on site, she was told "You don't get it, and I'm not going to argue with you about it." What?! What employee addresses a customer that way?? Next, she was also told that using the roof rack on the car was "against the rules." However, this is not stated in the contract anywhere. Also, they guy who actually checked her in the car told her that we could use the roof rack, but we were responsible for any damage. Isn't that the case with any rental car? If you drive it, your responsible for any damage. Lastly, the car had not been cleaned, had bird feces all over the windshield, AND was out of wiper fluid to clean it. Needless to say, this will be our last rental at this Budget site. read more

I have rented cars from this Budget many times, but the most recent time will be my last. Normally, the customer service is very slow compared to other rental car companies, but I have continued coming back because they are very competitively priced. This time, however, the service was unbelievably bad. While waiting to get the car I reserved, the previous driver of the car came in and returned the keys. The employees basically took the key and handed it to me, so the car was not cleaned on the inside or out (one of my favorite perks of getting a rental is getting a nice, clean car). I was disappointed but not appalled until I returned the car and the employee told me I needed to vacuum the car before returning it. He told me if I didn't, they would charge a cleaning fee. Having rented at least two dozen cars in the last few years, I have never been asked to clean a car before. Rather than arguing, I stupidly went ahead and cleaned it - it only took about two minutes. That two minutes of cleaning that those employees should have done themselves cost them a lot of business. Update: after complaining to Budget corporate, they sent me $50 in gift certificates. I still don't think it will be worth visiting again. read more

We were rented a moving truck with a bald tire which could have killed us and anyone around us if we hadn't noticed it at a rest stop. At that point we waited 6 hours on the side of the highway, sat on hold with the EMERGENCY number for 2 hours, and were transferred to about 10 different "customer service" people. Not one of these people was even pleasant to us. Spent $200 on a last-minute hotel because we couldn't finish our long drive by the time our tire got fixed at midnight. When I emailed customer service to ask for reimbursement for our extra expenses and express my concerns about the horrible service we received, I got ZERO RESPONSE. Unbelievably disrespectful ON TOP of the legal issues of renting someone a vehicle in some a dangerous condition. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

We just rented from this location earlier this month without an issue, but when we tried to pick up a reserved vehicle today, we were told that they have NO VEHICLES available to rent. Mind you, the website stated that they have a full selection of all vehicle sizes. The staff member did not seem to care about the inconvenience, nor did he try to provide any services to remedy the situation. He offered no explanation as to why this occurred (another customer service representative informed me via phone that he should have updated his inventory for online customers). Called to confirm a car reservation. The person accused me of scoping out a car in the lot and asked me to not do that. I was in my office 20 miles away. I asked for a certain car. He told me that was not possible. After several minutes of conversation with him, I joked that he was in the wrong job. He TOLD me I was in the wrong job and hung up on me. I called back to get his name. He told me a name. When I went to pick up the car, I asked to talk to the manager. I explained to him that "xxxxx" hung up on me. He said the guy no longer worked there, left 4 months ago. I said your man on the front counter just told me he would be back at 4pm. He said he just left the building. It is currently 12 noon. What is going on? They are all covering for each other. I called corporate and lodged a complaint. I called (800) 214 - 6094 and filed a complaint. If you call, get a 8 digit CASE ID NUMBER (mine is 15842089). I had to call back to add to my complaint as the first car I got had a flat tire the next day. They sent out a service truck and mounted the donut tire.... you know the one rated at 50 MPH. Really? I rented the car for 6 weeks. I asked them to give be another car and they accommodated that request. Poor customer service. They talked in a circle and I felt I was being street hustled. read more
