Wow, I haven't been treated this rudely in a long time. Turns out it was by the managers of this location. They were blocking thru traffic chatting in two cars. After waiting several minutes I asked them politely to move. They continued to chat. When I said how rude they were once inside the manager, Joana, accused me of being the one who was rude. Even the employees detailing cars asked them to move and then just shrugged and said they were the bosses. I hope enterprise can hold a higher standard for how its leaders treats their customers. This was always my favorite enterprise rental place. I drove out of my way to come here because the service was excellent. I have given them excellent reviews on many platforms, most often in their company surveys. I know business is hard, they have had to decrease the hours. But the service is not excellent any longer. I just was caught in traffic and needed to pick up a car, thinking I could get there by seven before they close, now they close at six. I began calling at 5:45 to ask if they could remain open for two minutes. I was put on hold repeatedly never picked up until one minute before close. I asked if she could stay open a few minutes so I could pick up the car. She told me that the safe was already locked. I arrived at 6:02. In the past, I could've counted on someone helping me out. Not any longer. When I asked when they stopped answering the phone, she said she picked up and got dead air. But I was on hold repeatedly and never picked up. I truly looked forward to renting my cars here a few times a month. My loyalty is now broken and I will just go to whatever company is closest and most convenient. I always was a loyal customer for Enterprise, especially this location, because I still felt like a customer, valued. That is no longer the case, sadly. read more

I reserved a car this morning for $40/day at the Durham Enterprise on Hillsborough Rd. When I arrived they claimed they were out of cars and tried to charge $70/day instead of honoring the confirmed rate. This is blatant bait and switch. I spent money and time on Ubers just to be scammed at the counter. The staff showed zero accountability and treated this like normal business. Enterprise should be ashamed of this location. I rent frequently from this location, at least once a month sometimes more. The pros: convenient location, only 2.5 miles from my home, the staff is super friendly and accommodating, any time they have not had a car I reserved they have upgraded me with no additional costs. The cons: they never have cars ready on time, if I schedule pickup for 9 and I'm there at 8:55 I still have to wait 20-30 minutes for a car to be ready. The cars are rarely cleaned properly, I have on many occasions taken the car down Hillsborough Road and run it through the automated car wash. This is an extra $15-20 on my part. And no one seems to ever clean the vehicle upholstery. The office building needs to be cleaned. I was there this week at 8 am and the carpet hadn't been vacuumed, the floors were dirty and the smell was horrific. Two men came in behind me and 1 commented to the other that he would be outside because the smell was nauseating. It really was bad. The cons are aggravating whenever I have to rent a vehicle, but the convenience of the location and the good attitudes of the staff have kept me from looking for another place to rent. read more

Our experience here was worth taking the time to write a review about. We were immediately greeted when we walked in by the manager, Kevin. Kevin was kind and courteous and most importantly, efficient and quick. We were there less than 15 minutes. My car had just been in an accident the night before, and we were in and out and on the road in our rental (which WAY exceeded expectations) in a matter of minutes. Drop off was super easy too. Zero issues with our rental. It was an amazing experience. Honestly, we were nervous when we first read the reviews, but you can tell they are really trying to turn this place around and it shows. The pleasant and well-trained representatives who answer the reservations line (at a remote location) can't possibly prepare customers for the--at best--blank stares and flat affect, nor at worst open hostilty that will confront them at this location. There is simply nothing resembling service here; just bodies filling jobs while they await their next gig. Think about it: If they were a well-run operation with happy customers there would be no need for a "Customer Service Manager" to constantly monitor online reviews in an effort to do damage control, but be assured there will be a message with a too-little, too-late offer to "look into this further." We rent from the location multiple times every year, over the past ten years, and they have consistently treated us well and have gone above and beyond to make sure we are happy and being treated fairly. This includes helping us out when the information from insurance companies or a 3rd party site (through whom we've made a reservation) doesn't match up with what their system generates. They will enter a manual discount, or whatever they need to do, to make things work. They are kind and cheerful on top of it. Recently rented a car from this Enterprise rental place while traveling to Georgia. The process of renting a car was easy. They were busy and there weren't many cars to choose from. We were given a Ford Edge. The rear breaks squeaked, the trunk would not open and the lights on the side mirrors kept flashing even when there wasn't a car passing. I was definitely unsatisfied with the rental . I explained my complaints to the representative after returning the car at Enterprise, but he didn't seem too concerned . read more

I booked my rental car (small SUV) online through an easy process. Once I arrived to the store, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the pickup process took no time at all. Once the the transaction inside was complete, the associate took me right outside to my ready and waiting vehicle which happened to not be the Ford EcoSport that it said online but a beautiful Jeep Compass. The car was detailed and ready to go. On drop off, the process was quick again and the staff that day was amazing as well. Highly recommend using them. read more

Terrible customer service. When I got the car (mind you I was picked up) no one at the branch told me that they do not offer drop off/pickup services on the weekends nor is it a publicly displayed policy. Hence there was absolutely no way for me to know this. The manager told me they would have informed me had I made the pick up reservation the day before but that wouldn't help either because if that was my only day to pick up and they told me that they don't pick up on the weekends, I would have been in the same boat. So my only choices were to pay for two extra days or pay for an Uber, which I did. Regardless of how inexpensive an Uber was, if they understood the concept of customer satisfaction, one of their five employees working at the front desk could've easily drove me 10 minutes to my car. My boyfriend and I came here over the weekend to pick up our rental car after a bad accident. The representative we worked with, Donte, was extremely friendly given our unfortunate situation. He was very knowledgeable on the process and was able to provide us with tips and additional information on working with our insurance companies and the other car's insurance company to ensure coverage was extended to the rental at no cost to us. That was really helpful because between all of the insurance representatives, attorneys and police, everyone neglected to tell us about that. Donte made sure to provide us with a safe, clean and brand new vehicle for the next two weeks. He was very kind and provided excellent customer service. It was a pleasure working with him and he's certainly a valuable asset to the Enterprise team. It's people like Donte who provide exceptional customer experience that make companies great! Unfortunately these employees don't really work. Rachel was incompetent on the software on a a one way trip. As she said we needed to book a reservation from our phone in the line. When it was clear she could call the 1800 number to help us. When the situation became very clear that I was frustrated with the customer service. Another member of the team got involved and was even more rude about the scenario then Rachel employee. This employee refused to give me her name. I ended up getting my rental from the Chapel Hill location. I filed a complaint with corporate as well. If this place wants to be successful. It will need to take a hard look at the employees running customer service as they clearly do not want to be there. Looking forward to get the response to email the care team. This outfit did not honor my confirmed (and credit card backed) reservation, greatly increased my chances of COVID exposure, and then told me they would not rent me a car at all because I was very angry that they offered me only a van instead of the mid-size car (Jetta) I reserved. I was willing to pay more for any kind of car, and told them that, but I could not and would not drive a van 6hours on the highway. Sure, they have the right to offer a similar car, however, other than having four wheels, these hardly can be considered comparable automobiles. After having to take an Uber to pick up the car, they subsequently left me with no transportation home or to my ultimate destination 6 hours away, where my family was expecting me. I had to take another Uber home and then yet another to go much further to a Budget Car Rental airport location that was dangerous wrt COVID potential transmission due to crowding and very poor air circulation in the small rental desk building where I had to wait in line for over 1-1/2 hours to finally get a car. A reservation is a reservation. I booked the car, provided my CC as collateral. It is clear that cancellations within 24 hours of the rental car pickup date will be charged in full to the CC on file, so whether I pickup my car at exactly the appointed time or 2 hours later, I am paying for it one way or another. So not honoring my reservation and telling me it is my fault is such a crock. Enterprise has taken for themselves both the right to charge you for cancelation and the right not to honor ones reservation. Not honoring a reservation is an outrage and horrible customer service. It just is, and it is an abuse of the little guy (ie, your customers). There are real consequences, as noted above, beyond the fact that Enterprise Durham will never get a penny of my business. read more

I cant give this place a minus 10 or I would. HORRIBLE customer service!!! We were quoted three different prices for the same vehicles. Got a call from Enterprise and said our rate would be $120ish. When we got there they didn't have what we reserved and charged us $166 for what they had. This location seems to operate on their own set of rules. They said they left a voicemail several days before the date of the reservation. That voicemail did not say that a lack of call back would result giving our car away. We showed up at 12:25pm and had to wait shortly before being helped. Then we were told we were late because "the reservation is for 12pm" and they did not have our car because we were late and because we hadn't responded to the voicemail from days ago. Nowhere in the rental reservation paperwork does it indicate that a call back is required for keeping a reservation... that kind of defeats the purpose of making a reservation in the first place. The reason was to provided that this is the same is what happens at doctors offices when they call to confirm appointments. Doctors offices do not cancel appointments due to lack of confirmation. That's not done. Nor is this a policy (the voicemail thing and the 30 minute supposed grace period which is also not in the reservation policy language anywhere) that we have ever experienced in every other branch of Enterprise used over several decades. A minivan was offered which was not at all suited for what we needed (SUV with AWD for snow) and then we were told they would not serve us after I stated my dissatisfaction as noted above. Frankly this is the first time ever at an Enterprise that the experience has not been a positive one. Guess there's a reason this place has 2.5 stars on Yelp over 70 reviews. One star. read more

I've been renting from this location on and off for 4 years. This time I was an hour and a half late to return the car. I called to explain the situation and was told I would pay an $18 fee for being late...cool. I signed up for the $20 a day damage waiver. Somehow their math became $20 + $18 = $57. I was double charged all taxes and fees. I was also charged for add-ons that I did not consent to. I asked for the damage waiver and specifically specified I did not need Roadside Protection nor PAI/PEC...but look, they got added on somehow. They offered to take off Roadside Protection and PAC that I didn't ask for in the first place and nothing. Save yourself time and money, and head to the Hertz a mile down the road. You won't be surprised by any extra $20 charges when you return it. read more

I had the worst customer service experienced on 12/19/2022. I was totally humiliated to the point that I wanted to just walk home. My reservation was made through my insurance company and I was treated like I was some criminal with no business there to rent a vehicle. I have never felt so degraded in my life. I was also put in the smallest vehicle on the lot. The customer service associate that helped me needs more customer service training or just fire him. After my car was t-boned by another car which ran a red light, the insurance company made arraangements for me to have a rental vehicle while my car was getting repaired. I received 2 emails from Enterprise, completed the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Priority Pass, and obtained a confirmation email and confirmation number for the date and time of the vehicle availability. When I got to the auto body repair shop and contacted Enterprise, I was informed that they did not have any vehicles available for 6 days. Enterprise on 3143 Hillsborough Rd, Durham, NC did not reach out to me until after the auto body repair shop contacted them, while I was waiting for them. They did not reach out to me or to the insurance agent to let us know no vehicle would be available, nor did they reach out to any other local Enterprise facilities. read more

Worst customer service I've ever had! I thought I had reserved a specific type of car, when in fact it was just the "class of car". When I got there I was told they were closing at 12 and they seemed very impatient to begin with. I was shown the car they were renting to me, which did not qualify as an SUV in my mind. It was the same size as my Honda Fit. I was told I could upgrade, but all they had available was a suburban. When I complained that I thought I was renting a Nissan Rogue, as that is what the website had shown, the customer service rep said "if you don't want to rent this then dont" - (referring to Honda Fit size car). Awesome experience all around! After booking the reservation online I had a few questions. They were very helpful when I called and answered all of my questions. When we arrived to pick up our 15 passenger vehicle Charles helped us right away. He actually showed us 2 different vans that were available and let us choose which one we wanted. He show us everything we need to know about the van. The van was spotless and very comfortable for our large group. They kept saying "they're on they're way" as I've been sitting in the parking lot now 35 minutes later. I'll have to cancel my events. I wanted to rent a car for a couple of days while home on break, since my fiance works and I don't currently have a car of my own, and was getting really sick of being stuck in the house all day. My fiance dropped me off, since we assumed getting a car would be no big deal. Wrong. He asked to see my driver's license and a credit card, so I handed him my license and my MasterCard. He looked at the MasterCard like it was a dead rat and said, "I need a *major* credit card." Um, what? How is MasterCard not a "major credit card"? I couldn't find my AmEx, so I asked if they could take the MasterCard and he asked to see two utility bills to prove I lived here. Then he needed references. To use my debit card. To take money DIRECTLY FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT. Seriously? I mean, SERIOUSLY? Then, when I was told that if I kept the car from Monday until Thursday (past 9am), I'd be charged for a full week. So they can charge for 3 days or a full week, but not for 4 days (or 5). Talk about a ripoff. He did eventually work things out and get me in a car, so I was grateful for that, except that it reeked of cigarette smoke. Overall, this was a supremely disappointing experience. read more

Waited an extra 15 minutes to be picked up after I called once in the morning to schedule the pickup. I was told I'd need to call two hours in advance to remind them to pick me up? I am not sure why they could not set an alarm or write that down, but I guess it was more important for me to interrupt the class that I was teaching. As well, when I finally got to the place, there were more than enough people to have picked me up on time, and I still had ti wait 15 minutes to get a car.
