Reserved a car for a one-way to Miami airport. Very early flight Monday morning so I had to pick up the car on Saturday and pay for an extra day because Key Largo Budget is closed Sunday. (Why? ) I reserved the car 3 weeks in advance and at 10am Saturday morning (Budget closes Saturday at 1pm) there were no cars available. Anyone can take a reservation, HOLDING the reservation is the most important part of the reservation process. The Clerk was polite but not helpful. I called customer service, equally unhelpful. This is a recurrent issue, Budget doesn't care. It's been going on for several years. Scheduled an Uber that cost only $20 more than my 2 day rental, lesson learned. Call 2 days ahead to confirm they will have your car. read more

When I walked in, Nash Wahba demanded that I sit down because he was working on someone else's reservation. I asked for the bathroom, and he sighed as though it was a great inconvenience and walked me to the back hallway to point out where the bathroom is. When it was my turn to be check out, he hurriedly gave me my paperwork and was in a big hurry to lock up and get out of there. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon. I pointed out that he did not walk around the car with me to note any dents or scratches on the car. He grabbed the paperwork from me, and wrote in a bunch of scratches on the car diagram and handed the the papers back to me. He rushed me out of the store and locked it up and took off. I would normally rate a 3 but in this case they called to reconfirm my car for the pick up date then told me they didn't have the size car I had rented (full size) and would have to give me something smaller without even offering to adjust the rate. I showed up and ended up in a Jeep Compass... a little difficult to get into with my large frame, but not a huge deal. It was raining outside so no big deal that it wasn't washed and there was visible dirt on the outside. Inside there was sand on the carpet and floor mats so it wasn't vacuumed either, there wasn't a whole lot so it wasn't a huge deal. Otherwise the car was fine. I rented a car on 12/22/16 at the Miami airport and returned it on 12/23/16 to the Key Largo location. 1/2 mile before returning the car I filled the gas tank then dropped the car off. When I dropped the car off I was charged a $13.99 fee which, according to the sign on the wall right behind the counter is ONLY supposed to be charged when the customer drives less than 75 miles and doesn't fill up the tank. I informed the counter person that I filled the tank, showed her the receipt and she checked the tank. She then lied right to my face and claimed that the $13.99 fee wasn't a gas fee and that I had to pay it. She would not remove the fee. I called corporate right when I got home and they confirmed that yes, the $13.99 fee is a gas fee and was supposed to be charged only if the car wasn't refilled with gas before being dropped off. They promised a refund and a call back from either a manager or someone in corporate. I have not received either the refund or call back. It is now 12/31/16 and I have called no less than 3 times asking where the refund is and when I will get the call back from the manager or person from corporate and each time they tell me to wait and that it will be posted in a couple days. Each time I wait the couple days and no refund is posted. I rent cars at least 3 times a month with my work, always with National or Enterprise and have never had an experience like this with a counter person who lied right to my face. I've had it with Budget and am going to be doing a chargeback on the rental unless that refund is forthcoming. read more

hello, wish I can do a zero stat rating. The sign says open 8 to 5 I had a 10 reservation it's now 10:30 a.m. and I've been here since 8 a.m. standing in the hot Florida Sun. I called the local number and the lady said I'll get there when I get there. Call the Budget customer service and they offered me a $40 credit that's not going to help me when I miss my flight. This is the most unprofessional core run location I've ever seen in my life and I would not recommend budget to my worst enemy. read more

Please do NOT rent from here! I pre-paid for my car 2weeks in advance. When I went to pick up my car at my scheduled time, I was told "it is running 2 hrs late" call later to see if it is here. I called at 4 and was told it was 30min away. I went back to rental store, and sat until 5:10. The car NEVER showed up. Nash(the employee) claimed he went above and beyond by staying late waiting, when in fact his ONLY job was was to provide a car. Kicked us out told us to call customer service to get our money back(because he "couldn't do anything to help" He wouldn't let us use the store phone to call while we were there. His last statement was "if the car is here tomorrow, I could rent it" he would be there at NOON, not 8am(opening time) $400 later I had to taxi and Uber from key largo to fort myers. Thank you Nash and BUDGET for ruining my day and my trip!!! Now I am sure I have to fight to get my money back for a car that was never provided!!!!!! read more

Really it's a zero. Our reservation was for an 8am pick up. No one was at the location...we waited for an hour, still no one showed. A call to corporate yielded no help except to say they would book us a car through Enterprise. Well, Enterprise did not have a car available so now we are without a way to get to our flight in Ft. Just a quick sum up would entail this is an individual owner franchise that runs to his own liking and does not follow what budget normally follows with customer service. I reserved a compact car with them and on the day I arrived at the time to collect the rental the man at the counter states he does not have the car class I reserved. His reply is the next class of car up is the only available and I have to pay almost double my reserved rate. When I told him this was an unfair practice and was at no fault of my own that he sold out my class of car his reply was that I either pay that much higher rate or leave without a car. i left without a car as I am not going to be extorted. I have rented many cars over the years from a variety of car rental places and whenever a car of the class reserved wasn't available the next class was given and honored at the original reserved rate. Not here! Just beware that reserving a car here does not mean much of either getting the class of car you reserve nor the price reserved. read more

I was surprised to read the reviews, consistently negative below. I needed a rental vehicle for a few days while enjoying the keys from our sailboat. It was a quick and easy online experience to rent a full size car for a very reasonable price. I reached the rental counter on time. The man operating the counter was friendly, kind, and even generously upgraded our car for the term of our rental for no extra charge. I made a reservation online and paid for it, when I showed up to the Key Largo Location to pick up car, I was informed they did not have that car available only bigger vehicles and I had to pay more. The correct way would of been of giving me what they had available and honor the price as this is a mistake on their part. RIP OFF!!! We needed to change our drop off location for our rental car, I called the office twice to confirm what I needed to do. I was told I had to bring the car back, close out that ticket and open a new one to change the drop off location in order to avoid the fee. I did exactly what I was told to do and was still charged a $300 fee to drop the car off somewhere else. I called them as soon as I saw this charge and they said they could not help me, they would have to contact the manager and give them my information. I called back the next day because I did not hear anything back. The same person answered the phone and told me he spoke with the manager and I just need to wait for them to call me back. Still no call back. In the mean time I contacted the 1800 number to speak with customer service. They weren't any help either. RUDE. I was offered back $200. So it cost me $180 to rent a car to go from Key Largo to Ft Lauderdale as apposed to the $35 on my receipt. I said that was not acceptable and I called back the office and the same person answered the phone and this time he was very rude. He told me all they do there is rent out the car and hand over the key and I needed to wait for management to call me. I asked to speak with the manager and he said he could not give me their contact information. Worse customer Service every. We had a flat tire and no one would even offer a car exchange. Road side service was an hour wait. We changed tire ourselves and had limited access to places we wanted to travel due to donut tire limits. Will NEVER rent a car from them again. read more

Had to wait over an hour at the Miami airport. The check in system is old and out of date. They did not have the vehicle that we had reserved. We needed a vehicle for eight. We waited until they found one. When we got to the van, it only sat 7. We were suppose to have car seats. They were not in the car. The person with the car seats was rude and not very helpful. Overall, I will never use Budget again. We are frequent travels and have not had problems in the past. But, this did it for us read more

Clerk told me to call some other rental service. Thrifty, a few miles away, said they always have customers showing up frantic and angry because this Budget location (Key Largo) continually disrupts and ruins travel plans for their customer with paid reservations. If the staff knew when they closed the night before that they would need to have a car available when they opened the next morning, why didn't they make arrangements to provide one? Don't Rent from Budget - We Were Left Stranded by the Side of the Road! We rented a 2017 Hyundai Elantra GT from Key Largo Budget. The counter clerk "said" the previous renter filled up with gas but that the gas gauge was broken. We took the car and checked the gas level by trying to fill it in Key Largo but it wouldn't take more gas so we trusted there was gas in the car. We drove around about 120 miles and then headed to FLL airport on the Turnpike. At exit 43 the car stalled out. Apparently we ran out of gas!! The gas gauge was broken and there was no gas in the car as Budget claimed! We tried to put more gas in back in Key Largo but the car wouldn't take more gas so we trusted there was gas in the car. Big Mistake! The only job rental car companies have to do is rent reliable cars and Budget totally failed at that. Budget doesn't take care of their cars. They don't care if they give malfunctioning cars to their customers. They don't do their due diligence. Don't rent from Budget. There's plenty of other, far better run rental car companies out there. read more

Reserved a car and showed up to the location before scheduled time to find a note on the door that said "helping another customer currently please call xxx-xxxx if you need help". I called the provided number and was told by the employee that she was trying to track down my reserved car and was told "I know this isn't very professional of me but have you tried seeing if enterprise has any cars" at this point I had no clue that there where no cars available, why would I have checked with other car rental places. She also told me that she would call me once she figured out where my reserved car was... she never did. I ended up scrambling to find a car to rent from thrifty whom had plenty of cars for my flight the next morning. I asked why I did not get a phone call and he advised me the system was down 5. as I told him this was unacceptable his words were that basically were sorry about your luck good bye and I did have some few choice words back to him.. so before you rent here . do not order online as they have very few cars that's why there prices are so much cheaper than everyone else around that area , also make sure they have the car available that you want at the time you requested . I did call budget and yes they did refund me my money back they told me it would take 5 days but that being said the storefront itself should be able to do a credit since they take your payment there.. If I could give zero stars I would. I normally don't leave reviews unless I've had an exceptional experience one way or the other, but the experience I had compelled leave this review, hopefully this will warn people not to do business with this establishment. I reserved a car from March 2 at 8:00 am to March 3 pm. My reserved rate was roughly $14/day, which I should have known was a little too good to be true in the first place. As you might imagine, I was being charged for 2 full days, even know I was returning the car the next day. I was fine with that, I understand that if you have the car over 24 hours you will be charged for an extra day, I get it. Instead of just keeping the car until the next day, I thought I would be courteous and bring it back so they would have it for someone else to rent, as i would no longer need it. I had reserved the car to pick up at 8:30 am thinking that I would start being charged at 8:30 am regardless, but that i could pick it up starting at 8am. We were coming from a wedding in Islamorada and driving the car back to Boca Raton. We were getting a ride to Budget from family members, so in the case that they were leaving early, I wanted to make sure we could pick the car up early if we needed to. Well we didnt wind up getting a ride over there until 11. When I got there, the guy said "you had a car reserved for 8:30", I said "Yes". He said, "well you never came, so we gave it away, its first come first serve". If it is first come first serve then why do you have a reservation system??? I figured they would have at least called me first and said, "if you don't get down here and pick it up, we are going to give the car away". In any case, I can deal with that - what really got me upset is that he also said "if another car comes back, we can't give you the same rate, because it will be under a different reservation now, so instead of $14/day, you're rate will now be $75/day". Which I was not happy about, but can deal with. I said in that case, then I would like to have the car for the full two days (at this point we decided we were going to spend some time in Miami on the way up and we would need the car until the next day, especially since we were paying a hefty price. The rep said "we can't change the original reservation". He had just told me that the rate changed because it was a different reservation. This was a complete stick-up - they knew that we had no other option and took complete advantage. A company like this will eventually reap what they sow. Do not ever use this company - I have dealt with Hertz and Enterprise and never had any problems - I will continue to deal with them and let everyone I know that Budget is a scam and a rip-off. read more
