My Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-In Hybrid has a couple of recalls so I took it in to Scott Robinson Jeep down the street and fortunately, Stellantis is going to pay for my rental....BECAUSE MY ENGINE & BATTERY MAY BLOW UP! This is a joint Budget/Avis Rental Car Agency and I had expected them to be busy. Very thankfully, on a Saturday morning around 11am, I was in and out quite efficiently and the staff was kind and helpful. Usually renting a car takes forever and the person helping you is as dumb as a box of rocks. I wanted an all-electric and I had a choice between a Tesla Model 3 for about $60 plus tax or a Kia Niro for $40. Since I had a cap that Stellantis would pay for, I chose the Kia Niro and I am quite pleased with it. The car was clean, in good condition aside from a few noted dings and such and super fun to drive (man, it has some real get up and go!). Overall, I had a good experience here and would recommend it if you need a rental car between Torrance Blvd. and Del Amo on Hawthorne Blvd. read more

How are you a manager and you don't know the company policies. The so called Manager Ashley, refused my secondary form of payment to closeout my rental. I told Ashley that I've done this at several Avis rental locations and this is the only one that won't allow it which is strange. I decided to call customer service and they told me that it's allowed and not sure why they won't allow it. Ashley mention that it's their policy and every location is different. I also, tried to show her one of my previous reservation where I used a secondary form of payment but she refused to even look at it. This place is terrible! I rented out a Tesla- model y for a month while my own car was being repaired. Let me make it clear: They do NOT maintain their Teslas on a regular basis, which is a huge safety issue! Soon as I pulled out of the parking lot, the monitor said something was wrong with the seatbelts. Not only that, while driving on the freeway, I can tell something was wrong with the wheel alignment or suspension! I called them to return the car, but they told me I would loose my monthly rate and be charged $2,000. They said they would exchange it for another Tesla Y. Problem solved, right? Nope! I exchanged the car for another Tesla model y and the system said the same thing! It was constantly saying, "Service Required!" Not only that, but that Tesla too, had alignment/suspension issues! Not only that, but the tires were very low and the front, left tire was very damaged. A man (stranger) had to flag me to get my attention at a stop light, to tell me that the tire was going to pop! How terrifying! After that, I was over it! I left the car on my street until it was time to return it. I took that raggedy Tesla back on its due date and I told the representatives about it. They really tried telling me to my face that the cars I rented had been repaired before I got them! I said, "If they were repaired right before I received them, then why did they say 'service required'?" They actually had nerve to tell me that it was because they didn't update the system, and it was Tesla's fault because they send their Tesla's straight to Tesla for repairs! The lies! I know, because I own a Tesla! It is no way Tesla repaired those two raggedy Tesla's I had. One of the men, was very rude, telling me, "I know where this is going." Implying that I was trying to find a reason to sue! I was like dude, please. The way you all don't take care of these cars, I will be the least of your problems. I will never rent another car from them. My safety isn't worth it. I rather spend my money with a place that keeps their cars up to date and has better customer service. By the way, inside of their Tesla's (at least the two I was lucky to get) smells terrible! I tried air fresheners and took them to car washes and they still had a nasty stench that I can't describe. This location is great for me as I live in Redondo Beach, and they always have cars available, especially last minute. The cars are usually in good condition. The service is good and the process of renting is relatively easy, especially if you have a budget account. Don't expect to get the exact car that you want. So if you see Tesla 3 or something similar, plan for the similar. Your car won't always be ready for you as soon as you arrive, so plan to get there early to give them time to wash and vacuum out your car. They are very busy at times, so to be on the safe side, have a buffer. And check the gas gauge or power gauge (if you're renting an electric). Overall I think it's super convenient to be able to rent from them, well worth the minor inconveniences. read more

Tried to charge me and make me pay for a bigger new vehicle. I have never had this happen before whenever a rental company does not have the car that you reserved They always honor the reservation without having to pay the difference in cost. I phoned into the reservation system and was told I could get a car if I prepaid for the rental. I did and when I showed up for the car I prepaid for I was told they don't have it and that I wouldn't get anything else for the rest of the day. That was on August 11,2024 and it's now September 3,2024 and I still don't have a credit for the rental that never happened. I have tried numerous times with no success. NEVER AGAIN, Pre-ordered Tesla 3/12/24 in Torrance - upon arrival 3/20/24 no Tesla - they palmed me off with a Hyundai. Next day drove almost 50 miles to Laguna after exiting freeway the vehicle started to sputter in traffic, appeared to be losing power, after 10mins. car was down to 15 mph, but then returned to normal. We decided to be safe and drive back home on surface streets - it took an extra 1 1/2hours. Returned car next morning to Torrance Budget only to find no electric cars at all. I was in a rush to pick up my grandson 17 miles away in Sta Monica, so accepted the car (represented as being with a full tank) only to discover after a few miles that the car was almost COMPLETELY OUT OF GAS (about 1/2 gallon). Rushed off freeway and put $20 in the tank. My grandson took photo of dash immediately I arrived in order to prove Budget/Avis as to what happened - it took numerous e-mails to finally get someone to admit Torrance Budget's folly. Upon return of car the manager discovered the previous customer had left the car empty. p.s. the odometer was still registering the time as Daylight Saving Time (12 days after clocks changed). p.p.s. DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION!!!!! I should've checked yelp first before making a reservation here! BE WARNED! I booked a reservation thru Costco on 7/17 for pickup on 7/26 at 5:30p for Intermediate SUV. I was supposed to go from work, take a bus to the location to pickup the vehicle. The day before pickup I happen to read the bad reviews here on Yelp and got worried. Things like they ddnt have the reserved car or that there was poor customer service was things I read. So at around 9am the day of pickup I called and talked to Josh. I told him I want to make sure that they will have a vehicle for me because I don't want any surprises since I am coming in 30 mins before they close. He checked my reservation, saw I booked an SUV and said not to worry. That they see my reservation thats why they ordered a vehicle for me and it should get to the lot between 2-3pm. I offered to come early to pick up if that would be better he said no need that the vehicle will be there for me at 5:30p. So that made me feel at ease. I left work, took the bus, got there at 5:38p. Josh checked me in, and at first gave me a contract to sign with a different price Costco gave me. He saw the mistake and said he will take care of it. He made the adjustment and reprinted the receipt for the correct price. And then he said he will bring in the car up front for me. After a few moments, another staff spoke to me and asked if i was picking up a car. I said yes. And then he motioned to the front of the office saying that my car is ready. Lo and behold, i saw a white PICKUP! I told him, no that's not mine! He said yup that's mine! I said we booked an SUV, he said that is a same level SUV. I was totally dumbstrucked! I said you go anywhere and ask anybody, a pickup truck is not an SUV!!!!! He said well it can fit 5 people. I said yah, but how about our stuff? He said there's a lot of room at the back. But I said unlike an SUV, it's not covered. He said well that's what they had for me. And started to walk away. That made me so upset. Him and josh were getting ready to close, switching off the lights and cleaning up. They kept on repeating, I'm sorry that's all we have. That that's a valid alternative to my reservation. I said there were three other SUVs in the lot why can't I have those. They said there were pricier than my reservation. That the two costs about $1,000 for the wknd and that the other one is reserved to be picked up tomorrow. I said with the hassle that they are giving me and the unbelievable switch up that happened they should be giving me those as options. Aside from the incorrect substitution they made, (confirmed with BUDGET corporate that this was a wrong substitution!) josh was telling me that they just got my reservation that morning. What a lie when I have my email reservation to prove that wrong! He said the lady who was supposed to return the SUV that I was supposed to get called and told him that she cannot make it today. And I asked him why didn't he call me earlier. He said he ddnt have to since he found me a car. Unbelievable! I told him to cancel my reservation to reverse everything! They didn't even care, he reversed it right away and continue closing up! I will be complaining to Corporate and to Costco about this. With all the bad reviews of this location, they should close this down or replace the employees or retrain them. First lesson they should have is knowing the difference between a PICKUP truck and an SUV!!! If I were BUDGET/AVIS corporate! I would be ashamed of this location and it's staff! read more

Horrible customer service. Reserved a 7 seat suv, which they did not have when I went to pick up. They offers a 5 seat suv in its place and at a cheaper rate. When they drew up the contract I was paying as paying more than my original reservation. When I questioned the daily rate Ashley the the rep assisting me said she couldn't modify my reservation to reflect the cheaper rate. So she gave me a $30 discount to bring the cost down to the original reservation???? So where's the cheaper rate???? Rip off. I had the worst experience ever here at the Torrance Budget location! Not only were they unprofessional but very understaffed and uneducated staff. I rented the Cadillac Escalade and as soon as I enter the vehicle it was filthy and the break pad monitor warning light was on. As soon as I pulled off the lot the breaks were very unstable and I had to press the break all the way down to come to an actual stop. This happens to me over the entire weekend and caused me not even to drive it when I got to my destination. I was supposed to bring the rental back on Monday 1/22 but I called the Torrance branch and explained to the lady that the breaks were acting up and I didn't want to drive down the mountain since it was snowing, she ignored my concern and since she was the only employee working I was put on hold for 20 mins without any response. So when I brought the rental in on Tuesday 1/23 I kept the truck running so I could show them the break pad monitor warning she said that they got it from LAX and that it should have been fully inspected before it got to them, so they never even checked is what I was told! I asked her if the manager could come out and take a look at it and all she did was charge me for the additional day and said he was to bust and that he was going to take it to get inspected. I've been calling all day to speak the the manager and all the employees say is he's busy. So I've continued to call and they are waiting on the service results in order to further assist me? This is the worst experience I have ever had with a rental company and horrible customer service, I really don't know how this location is still in business, every customer there had a complaint and had to wait since they were understaffed. I will be sure to leave a review on YELP to make sure people are aware of how bad of an experience I had to avoid this from continue happening. read more

This experience is comparable to renting a room in Las Vegas. They say it's one price, but BEWARE. 27/a day is 200 a day. Mileage and insurance. We were scammed for 50 bucks. I am currently disputing a charge from your location. I booked a pre-paid rate and was charged almost double once I returned the car. The gentlemen that assisted me said I was able to return it the same day. He never told me that I would get charged double if I returned it early. They need to be trained better on how to navigate those conversations. I tried to dispute with my credit card company and Budget said I signed that I would pay the penalty which is a complete lie. If there was an option of - negative stars I'd choose that. First off I made a reservation of a specific car which they didn't have available when I got there... I had to get a much larger truck and of course that was more expensive. My employees got stranded while being on the freeway and waited for 3 hours before budget sent out road assistance. Every time I called for an update I would get put on hold sometimes I'd be on hold for over 30 min before someone would just tell me again to wait. At no point did they give me any answers or were apologetic about the truck being defective. When I asked about me being charged for a defective truck the guy on the phone who's name was JC said "I don't know"... because of course that the best answer to give a customer. I am in Customer service and the last thing I would want is to give someone a hard time. This was one of the worst experiences I have had. I have my car in the shop and figured I would rent a car so that I can take care of somethings. I used a rental site and felt like Avis/Budget offered the best rate. They were 3 miles away and closing at 6 so I made my reservation and showed up at 5:30 (which was my reservation time). There are two gentlemen at the counter behind the desk. One was Josh and I didn't ask the other guys name. There were 3 different groups waiting while Josh was helping a customer. The other associate just sat behind the counter. No one said "One moment" or "We will be with you in a sec". The other guy did nothing to assist Josh. I honestly figured this is what you get when you book an inexpensive rental. When I got to the line after waiting about 15 mins, Josh told me that they didn't have the car I reserved. If I wanted a car with Avis/Budget I would have to pay more. I was extremely confused at first. Josh went on to explain that since I booked it just 1 1/2 hours ago they don't have it. Now look man, I was online and had a plethora of rental places to choose from, I took a Lyft to get there and now if I get a car from them I will have to pay $10-$15 dollars more a day. He did start to call and check other Avis's yet he kept giving me the same explanation as if it was my fault that they ran out of the economy cars I booked. He did not apologize, he was not rude to me, he was just indifferent. Josh could have cared less. That was the source of my upset. He didn't care. His coworker didn't care. They were basically like "oh well". Josh did find a car for me. I even said to him that His indifference doesn't work in the world of customer service. He just stared at me and said "Yes that is why I called and got you the car". There was still no apology or empathy or understanding. Another associate took me to inspect the car and simply said "That is the corporation" when I explained the situation. Still I am a customer and no one here seem to understand that or care. It was like an "Oh well" attitude. I appreciate that I got the car and yet I didn't enjoy how I was treated at all. BTW I did get loud and tell them I will just sit there throughout the night until I get my car even if Josh had to call Jesus Christ himself has to get it. "Call someone Josh, there has got to be someone higher than you that you can get on the phone". My point is that this whole company needs to hire people and train them on how to deal with customers. This Del Amo location was cheaper than everyone else in the area, so we went with them, and waited an entire hour to pick up a car once we got to the location (in a tire store), because there was only one guy working and there were two people ahead of us in line. Literally 30 minutes per customer, because this poor guy was answering phones, dealing with customers, running to get cars, even quickly washing cars before he brought them up. His lunch sat untouched on the back counter the whole time -- why does he still work for a company that operates like this? There was no management anywhere in sight -- do they care? Do they even know? Against our better judgment, we gave them another shot this week, because the prices are higher everywhere at Thanksgiving and they were still cheapest in the area. This morning they call and say we know you have a reservation, but they won't have any cars this week, sorry. Well, thanks for letting us know three days in advance I guess. Back to Enterprise. Budget should shut this place down and move that poor single employee to a real location. I guess since I have to give one star, that star is for him -- zero for everything else. I would give them a zero if I could. The car we were supposed to pick up had no keys. The replacement car had been peed in...yes pee! Or some damp liquid in the seat. The second replacement smelled like vomit, but they didn't have anything else. It wasn't even washed. We had to wait another 15 more minutes for them to hose it off. Yes, a garden hose wash. We bought air fresheners and febreezed the car as soon as we could and drove mostly with the windows down. When it was time to return it they gave us the bill and we charged it. However, they switched the price and now I have spent over 4 hours of my time dealing with employees that just don't seem to care. Even the manager, Baron, was rude and did nothing. We rented a car through Costco Travel and of course we went with the best deal. Thanks Budget! The pick up and return was very easy. We got a really nice car with a rear camera. I deducted a star because we left a brand new unopened pack of Ex-Lax in the car (one of us was bloated hahaha) and the staff either threw it away or took it. They should'nt have assumed it was rubbish. Since we didn't use it, I was hoping to return it (paid about $21) and I called the very next day too. Sure it was our fault for leaving it in the car but geez not everyone is perfect. They should have a bin to put things that are left behind in the car. read more

I called at 12:20 to ask this was a problem and was told that as long as I arrived before closing I was fine. Thinking my rental was taken care of, my wife and I took a taxi to the location. When we got there, the girl behind the counter told us there were no cars left. At no point during my initial call was I told there was a chance that no cars would be available. I'd give 1 star, but I gave two instead since it was my fault for missing the appointment. If you rent from here, don't miss your reservation time. Dropped of my Subaru and received a free laoner to be picked up two doors down at Budget. Walked into an office area that is in much need of an overhaul, and cleaning. Attention to appearance has left the building a while ago for sure. What's that smell??? As I am trying to find out, someone looking like a mechanic walks in, disappears, and appears again with warmed up leftovers or something. So why the Four Stars? I rented though Costco Travel. I had a price that was given to me online which included an extra driver. At the counter at the airport however everything changed. I informed them I did NOT need any insurance because I have full coverage on my cars. This was verbal. I was asked to sign the waiver declining insurance but was unaware of liability attached at the very bottom. The Budget employee told me I was signing a waiver to decline coverage. When the car was returned on time I was charged an extra hour also. This amounted to an extra $90. So far I have the extra hour refunded but can't get the insurance cost refunded. So disappointed in this American Company and the lies to get more of the allmighty dollar. read more

We needed a truck and ended up coming here. It's further than the one closest to our address but they had their gates closed and no one answered the phone. We came to this location instead and were a bit alarmed about the price (it's $0.10 more per mile and $10.00 more per day than what's advertised online) but the woman helping us, Shazia, stated that that is the online reservation price. I'm admittedly still a bit salty about that but I think that's corporate more than this location's doing. So if you're thinking of renting, do get an online reservation before coming. Shazia was very polite and professional the entire time she helped us. She even found ways to help save us money with various discounts. We still ended up spending quite a bit, but it was worth it. We rented two trucks and the last one did have a steering issue, just the steering wheel facing a complete different direction than straight. Not terribly bad, but not a really comfortable drive for me, wondering if it was going to give out any time soon or not.
