I rarely rent a car when I travel, but due to the prices of rideshares going up, I opted to rent a car. At the Sacramento airport you have to take a bus to where the rental car services are located. The line was at least 40 people deep, and it was raining outside, which wasn't fun. When we got dropped off, I got in line for the Budget rental car line. While in line they had a QR code that stated scan here for faster checkout. I scanned, added my information and at the bottom of the confirmation screen it stated to go to their "express" location. I went there, stood in line, and then was told that I had to go back inside. So that was frustrating. I got back in line inside, and waited another 15-20 minutes to be helped. Budget had by far the longest line and wait time. Once I was helped, I was given a ticket and told to go outside and give my ticket to the woman at the tent outside. Once at the tent, there were roughly 3 people ahead of me, I gave my ticket to the woman. From start to the finish once I arrived from the bus to car rental office to actually getting my car it was roughly 2 hours. The woman working the tent where you gave your car ticket, seemed perplexed that there was only one person running to grab cars. It was unfortunate because it seemed like there was a real lack of communication. No one tried to help. WHen I got in the car, it definitely needed to be cleaned out. It wasn't super clean. This was a real lackluster experience. This experience made me rethink ever renting a car again when I'm traveling. read more

Budget Car Rentals is terrible, I won't be using them again (and by relation Avis since they are Avis Budget Group). I just reserved a car through Budget to be picked up at the San Jose airport in May, using my AARP discount. I have a screenshot of the discounts I was supposed to get, however the correct amount was not taken off, and the final confirmation they sent me did not list the discounts. On the preliminary numbers the original base rate price for the intermediate size SUV was $76.99, this number was crossed out and $62.36 was posted as the base rate. Under that the discount code savings (AARP) was -$20.70, and under that number was a Pay Now Savings of -$6.93, giving a total savings of $27.63 (which is also listed at the bottom). This is on the screenshot I took. Even if the original number of $76.99 was used, and subtracted the $27.63 in savings, it leaves $49.36 before taxes and fees. If the taxes & fees of $27.28 is added to the $49.36, it comes to $76.64 that I should owe Budget for this car rental. However, they charged me $89.64. I called Budget and they told me all discounts were applied and they would not change the bill. It's simple math: $76.99 - 27.63 = $49.36 for the car. Then $49.36 (car rate with applied discounts) + $27.28 (taxes & fees) = $76.64. That's what I should have been charged, not $89.64. What kind of scam are they running? I expect a company to be able to do simple math and to honor any discounts they are offering. I wish I had seen these reviews before dealing with them. read more

Said I didn't want insurance or gas refill fees and they didn't anyways. They expect you to read every single word of the rental agreement as you are being rushed to hurry and sign and since they know you won't/can't read it they hide in extra fees. The absolute worst car rental experience I have ever had. I reserved the car for 2 days. When I called to extend for a couple more days, I was told my account was closed and I didn't have a car. Okaaaay. I called again and was given an extension. However, a day later, I received a certified letter from Budget stating I had embezzled the car and was under surveillance!!! Seriously the WORST service I have ever received. While inspecting my car the employee hit me with the car door and almost knocked me over. No apology or anything after I told him he hit me with the door. He tried to tell me there was excessive dirt in my car but there was NONE and told me he would charge me $250 to clean it as that was their 'standard' charge. When I got upset because I felt that there was no dirt and thing he raised his voice and stormed away and showed me this self typed sign that says he charges people $250 for "excessive dirt or animal hair". I told him I understood but it was NoT excessive. I ended up taking the car around the corner to be vacuumed by a car wash. Pathetic because when I got back he didn't even look at it again. Every chance these people got they tried to get more money from me. I pre booked and paid for my reservation and they attempted to charge me extra. I seriously will NEVER rent from them again due to their extremely unprofessional behavior and frequent attempts to scam money from me. If I could put negative amounts of stars I would. Wife and I were excited...we found a good price for a 4x4 for our trip up to Tahoe. Sadly we rented from here. Guy at the front desk was nice. He said that he technically gave us a slight upgrade for free. He took us out to the car, Nissan Xterra, the exterior was a little dirty but we didn't care. Did a quick check up handed us the keys and sent us on our way, but not before he told us we were responsible to wash the car. Thought that sounded shady and being blunt, sorry East coast upbringing, he told us that it was in the contract to bring it back in same condition. "Whatever, I'll figure this out later." I wanted to get home to back this baby. Grabbed the keys and jumped in the car. All to be met with an old, dusty, butt smell. The car had visible stains everywhere. The greatest of these on the steering wheel. There was some brown old crust that stared at me for the roughly 6 hours up to Tahoe and the roughly 4 hours back. There was ZERO windshield fluid, fun little fact I found out en route. When I called into the car rental place to ask if I could drop the car off early after hours the man answering the phone, as well as, the manager continued to talk over me every time I began to speak. Overall, worst decision I made all Thanksgiving Holiday was renting from here. Please, go somewhere else. NOT WORTH IT. read more

So is there a possible way to give no stars? I've never walked in to a place where the people working there were arguing with other customers. I needed a car to rent and I choose them. But when I got there at my approved time at 8am. I was told they didn't have cars. And that I would have to wait til 11am. Any ways long story short. I tried to to leave and they tried to get me to get a car. After all that happened I was kissed off 100%. When I left I shouted that this was bull shit. Then manager then came out and began to yell at me. Told me I should disrespect him and his business. I get I shouldn't have done that but working in customer service I know if a customer is angry and has choice words. You don't leave your office and yell at them on the street. A few years ago I put a reservation on a rental car when coming to visit from NC when I got here the rude worker shrinny informed me that my credit wasn't well enough, but I have great credit? He pretty much shooed me off and ruined my trip to CA. Second encounter was when I moved across the country with a budget truck, one state away the truck started leaking water from the radiator, got two bald tires and the brakes went out!!! We contacted corporate and they said it would a 90 minute eta to rescue us on the side of the road and it took 12 hours!!! While I'm explaining this to the drop off location in tracy ca the attendant Coney, was trying very hard to help us find a solution when Shrinny comes not just rudely interrupting our conversation but shouting at us that nothing can be done! I have NEVER felt so unwanted in a "place of business" in my life. I would advise to NEVER do business at this location unless you want to be treated like scum. Shrinny is probably one of the most unprofessional men I have ever encountered. I've rented cars and a truck from this location several times. The service has been fine (until today) though I've seen the older male worker argue with other customers while I've been checking in. I had a reservation for a car and as I pulled into the parking lot today at 11:55am, the same worker was standing on the porch using his hands to shoo me away. I parked anyway and he told me he was closing at noon for New Year's Eve and the computers were shut down. Never mind the reservation or customer service. I'd been a loyal customer, but after today, I will not spend a cent here and likely at any other Budget location. I suppose I should have turned around and walked away when I walked up amd clearly two woman were arguing with two Eastern Indian Guys. I figured it was the customers fault until I got inside and found why. Apparently they want to run your credit before renting you a card. Being protective of my information I asked why....and if it was a hard hit or soft hit on my credit. They couldn't answer. I got a little irritated but told them do whatever. Worst customer service ever! I rented a car for 3 days so I could bring my daughter to preschool while my wife used our car to go to work. We have an English Mastiff and needless to say at times her hair gets on our clothes. When I returned the vehicle the Indian man behind the counter repeatedly accused me of transporting a dog in the car because there were a few dog hairs that transferred from my clothes to the seat. I told him several times that I had not used it for my pet and that it probably came from my clothes, yet he insistently accused me of it. I told him I had the car 3 days would expect that they would vacuum between rentals which agreed, followed up by another comment about dog hair..... So pissed......terrible customer service and false accusations! I rent cars pretty frequently, and sometimes rent locally in order to save gas on a long road trip. I generally go with Enterprise because they're nearby and have good weekend rates. However for a 3-day midweek trip to San Diego I saw I could save some money by going with Avis. Big mistake. The manager at the Tracy office seemed to be a nice man, but possibly so accustomed to dealing with dirtbags that his demeanor has evolved to assume every customer is a potential dirtbag. Since most rental agencies as of late seem to strive for stellar customer service, this was a little bit of a shock. I was told that if I left my personal truck on the premises, it would be towed. The explanation had something to do with Avis policy and liability, although I've never heard of such a policy at any other rental agency I've ever used. After having to sign a separate, locally generated document promising to return the car in a clean condition and also receiving a lecture on the subject, I was a little surprised to see that my proffered car already had a well-worn seat, sticky console, and muddy shoe prints on the carpet. After spinning out a couple times accelerating from stops in the rain, I checked the tires and sure enough two were almost completely bald. I carry my own auto insurance for rentals, but I left with a very uneasy feeling that I would have to argue over every pre-existing blemish on the car upon return. I've never had such a feeling with Enterprise. Returning the car turned out to be much smoother than I anticipated, however Avis did tack on two additional small surcharges above and beyond the price that had been quoted me online when I reserved the car. Something about local fees. Overall, the general experience was not worth the $70 I saved, and I will definitely steer clear of Avis in the future. read more

My mother and I booked a car rental for Avis (which is the same site as Budget.) She was going to be listed as a secondary driver and we didn't realize she had to be present to be added. She works in walnut creek so she rushed to town but hit traffic on the way. I thought for sure the employee was going to ask me to return the next day but he actually stayed a half hour past closing time till my mom got there and we got the car. They find hidden extra fees buried so deep in policies you have never heard of before...it's absolutely ridiculous. They tried to charge me an extra days fee for bringing the vehicle back a couple of hours BEFORE the deadline. They're excuse was we can't re-rent the car today...well if I brought it back on time to the minute you couldn't either! Had to leave the car and take the keys only to come back on time. The guy in front of me brought the car back 15 mins after his deadline and was charged for an extra day as well. The vehicle I was given was in absolutely horrible shape. I do not expect an off the showroom floor car, but there are limits. EVERY panel had some sort of damage. Deep scratches on the front and rear bumper, all 4 doors, the hood, the trunk lid, and the roof. Good size impact dents on the rear passenger door and rear fender. The drivers door had a large run in the paint from the handle to the rocker panel from egg or coke damage. When the damage was brought up to the person he told me this is your only choice or I can upgrade you to the next class for a charge. When I asked about the three other full size vehicles on the lot he told me he could not rent those and I would need to upgrade. Absolute crooks at this rental place. I'm astonished at the terrible customer service!! Ali Alamdar (whose name was on the business cards, but maybe not the actual worker's) the man working was an older middle eastern man whose accent was so thick his English was too hard to understand, so I was translating for my poor uncle. The worker is the most rude person in this job field! I've rented cars so many times my pocket book hurts. This experience left such a bitter taste in my mouth I'll never rent from Avis or Budget again. This rental was desperation because I needed the car on a weekend nearing their closing time. I called to make a reservation around 1p on Saturday. He informed me he wouldn't make any reservations over the phone and said I "better get here in the next 20-30 min or He wouldn't rent me a car because it's too late and nearing closing in an hour!" When I got there he was very annoyed and started badgering me and others that were there saying he couldn't believe we would come in so close to closing time. Uhhhh what!? He told me to come in!!!!! He commented that it was ridiculous to be serving customers so close to his closing time of 2p. He had to settle the accounts and paperwork, and he said he had a family to get home to. The car was scratched and he barely made the rounds. I went around and checked the car myself which infuriated him and he said don't worry about it. Contrary to his request I asked him to mark them down. I wanted to cover myself because he seemed shifty! Upon returning the car, again he commented on everybody coming at once and was again visibly annoyed. He commented to one lady he hated his job and wanted to quit. WOW!!! I read all of the reviews and had a similar experience. Except that it was car related and not customer service. When we arrived we were given the keys to the car, but told that the tire pressure was low on the car and would require air. One of the two attendants then proceeded to add air and had me look at the dashboard and tell him when the light went off. When my girlfriend approached the car, she noticed a strong unpleasant odor coming from inside the car, including a cigarette smell. I then approached the car and noticed that every single seat, including the rear seat was disgustingly filthy. Heavily soiled seats that looked like they had never been cleaned. I complained and was given an upgrade since there were no other cars in the same class. Prior to returning the car, I removed all debris that was accumulated during our trip. Upon checking the passenger's seat pocket I found a potato chip bag, piece of clothing and a un-identifiable case. Not being my doing and uncertain of the contents, I did not remove them. When I returned the car, I had the attendant come out to the car. I showed him the trash and told him this was totally unacceptable. His only reply was that he would speak to the person responsible for cleaning the cars. I never saw anyone other than the two guys, so for all I know there wasn't anyone there to clean the cars. I have travelled and rented cars for 20 plus years and I have never seen anything like this before. I will most definitely be taking my business elsewhere, even if I have to travel to the Bay Area to rent a car. At least I know it will be clean. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with the Customer Service. TERRIBLE! I brought back my car and the representative pointed out some dog hair. I told him it was from a box I had put there and I cleaned it up. He took it over to the male that washed the cars and came back in. He told me that next time he would have to charge me extra to get out the dog hair because the detail person said it would take an hour and a half to clean the interior. I told him he should tell that person he should be happy about having a job and that if this was such a nuisance, let me borrow the vacuum and I will clean it up and it will only take 5 minutes. It was just hair off my clothes. I didn't know you had to detail your rental car before you take it back to them. I won't be renting from them again anytime soon!!!! read more

If I could not put a star or a negative star I would have. This Avis/Budget Care Rental in Tracy on Grant Line Road is HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!!! Don't rent from here unless you want bad customer service, dirty cars and extra charges just because he can. The manager is absolutely awful and has no customer service skills and doesn't care. He speaks to his customers badly, argues with them and argues with his co-workers right in front of customers. He doesn't inspect the car before you drive off but definitely wants to inspect it upon returning it. You make a reservation and get there to be told no cars available !!!. I believe he just makes up the rules as he goes day by day. If you are thinking about renting here just read ALL the reviews before you do. If you absolutely have to cause you know life happens and you need a vehicle ASAP, just go in there prepared, make sure he inspects the car and you are right there inspecting too, bring it back with gas, pick up all your trash/papers, etc. or he'll try to charge you an extra cleaning fee, bring it back before your time, inspect it again before paying. The only good thing about this place is the location is convenient and you can get a very good rental price at times with online reservations !!!! read more

I would give this negative Stars if I could!!!!! Made an online reservation my card was charged no problem. Later on that day I called customer support and explain to them that my debit card with a temporary card because my wallet has been stolen a week ago. The representative I spoke to you told me that I can provide the PIN to prove it is my card and as long as it's the same card I made the reservation with this shouldn't be a problem. Call the location in Tracy and asked if they had pick up service the guy told me know because he's the only one there so I told him I would be a little late for my reservation. Call the cab and took a cab there cost $62. Go to pick up my car and the guy would not take my card because it doesn't have my name on it even though I explained to him I already spoke with a customer service representative and they had okayed it. After 45 minutes on the phone speaking with a representative and their supervisor the supervisor tells me that their supervisor does not answer phone calls but will call me back within 48-72 hours. It's been almost 72 hours and no call. Final resolution there are not going to rent me the car but they are going to cancel the charges and I will get a full refund. Pay another $65 to get home on my way get an email saying my reservation has been cancelled and they are refunding me the charges - $150 for a cancellation fee. I call and talk to another representative and ask them to simply cancel the charge. They tell me they can only refund me and it will take 5 to 8 business days. I explain to them that I need the money to be able to rent a car from someone else because I have a meeting I've been waiting for for over 6 months and I need the car to get there. They tell me that it is just an authorization hold and that they will release it and the money should come up in my account. No it doesn't come up on my account. I get a charge of $231.26 and a refund of $81.36. I called back and get a bit representative with a major attitude that tells me then for them to release the hundred fifty dollars can take up to 2 weeks. So I pay $130 in cab fares Plus $231 to drive one town away sit on the phone for 45 minutes come back home with no car and $350 less. There was no attempt to compensate me for anything and even less attempt to correct the wrong. I will never ever rent from Budget Car anywhere in the world for it was the worst experience I have ever had renting a car. Some of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with and I live in Stockton. I highly recommend going anywhere but to budget or Avis or they simply do not care about the customer all they care about is their money read more

First the reservation I made online said they particular truck needed was available, yet when I arrived it wasn't. Upsold to bigger truck but their credit card reader wouldn't read any cards that I had nor the other customers. It got to the point that the guy there did nothing and started to get upset with me because his equipment didn't work. Although cheaper by a few dollars than U-Haul its not worth the hassle and he tells me to call my insurance because regular insurance won't cover them. WHAT?!? and was gonna charge $45 for their insurance. SUCK IT!!!! I walked across the street to U-Haul with no reservation was taken care and out the door in 10 minutes after wasting 45 at budget.next time I will listen to my own advise as to pay a little more to get what your expectations for service fulfilled. read more

I go to this place quite frequently. Reading all the negative reviews just makes me laugh. I have a corporate rate through Avis, and I end up picking up cars at this location. They can't give me too much of a runaround on price because of the corporate rate, and I think that also automatically raises my esteem in their eyes and they treat me ok most of the time. But everything I read about the owners being rude, arguing with customers, etc is pretty accurate based on what I've observed. They did try to give me the runaround one time I rented a minivan during Christmas break, at our corporate rate, and they were mad at me because they could have rented same minivan for like $300 more, and they were trying to convince me to take a different car, and I was like no, I need something that will seat 7, and they were still trying to talk me out of it. Other times too, they tell you things no other car rental office says, like "this car had two keys. Please do not separate them." Or reservation has you returning car at 5:00 and they're like, you have to bring it back earlier because we need to lock up the office early that day- no after hours drop off. Or ask you to return the car early because they're out of cars and someone else wants it. They yelled at me one time when I showed up (on time) because they "kept calling me over and over again" to find out when I was coming to pick up car... and my call log showed they called once and didn't leave a message. I do think they must have a lot of lowlife customers, especially on the truck rental side, because they pre-emptively give you sh** and won't take no sh** from no one. read more
