CAUTION!!! More of the same from this company. I got their info from a remodeling website that promotes themselves as verifying and recommending contractors. BIG MISTAKE. The sales rep came to take a look, no issues. The problem began after he left. He told me to give him a few days to look into things, work out the details and he would get me the pricing. I told him to take a week or two as I was still waiting for the bank closing to occur so I can get the financing complete. Three weeks pass, no contact. I called the office to get an update and was also told (like other reviewers here) that they apologize, would get a hold of the sales rep, and guaranteed a call by the end of business. NO CALL, NO EMAIL, NOTHING! I figured I give them a third chance, but once again they gave me nothing but empty promises and no follow through. Their actual craftsmanship might be good, but I will not trust a company that cannot do something as simple as returning a call from a potential client. Forget the aspect of this being your business, how about common decency? read more

Don and his team remodeled my basement from start to finish. They came in and made many good suggestions and promptly gave me an estimate once we decided what we wanted to do. They followed the time frame just as they set fourth from the beginning and when completed came back by when I was there just to go through everything again and make sure I was completely satisfied. It almost feels like Don is family, he was always smiling and calling me to make sure everything was going along to my satisfaction, this is very rare in this business. I wanted new back steps and new cellar doors. I called 2 companies, 1st company came at was Budget Construction. Michael was wonderful, he lesson to what I had to say and what I needed. I'm a caregiver to my mom (89). I explained about my home life, he understood. He said he will get back to me in a couple of day (this way I can speak to the other co.) Michael came back, and I told him I wanted Budget Construction for the project. I made a big change I wanted a deck. (with all this covid 19 stuff now my mom can get out). We sat down went over the contract, and the price. After signing the contract, I felt peace in my heart, this was the right thing. Couple days later Michael came by w/ Chris (his right handman). Chris is a nice guy, he kept me informed, with who what when. The carpenter came with his son and father-in-law. Very nice people, polite, and caring. When my beautiful deck was done, I asked the carpenter to install my flag pole holder. Old Glory never looked so beautiful. Chris and another guy came by and built me new cellar doors. Michael came to my house to give me a quote for my kitchen remodeling project and he was the only one who quoted me $15,000 compared to all the other 6 other contractors quotes of $3k-5k. When I told Michael that I thought his quote was extremely high he smiled and chuckled and said well I can do financing. He spent most of his time talking about how famous he was and joking around. He didn't seem to care or focus on the things I wanted fixed, he just joked about moving into my house. He also talked about his commercials (which I've never seen). Then a week later someone from his company called me and asked me if I had gotten a quote from Michael and "I said yes but can you email me the exact quote again?" The lady got upset because I asked her to email it to me and she said "why do you want a written quote?"..."oh we don't do written quotes" ... " if you want a written quote I'm going to have to charge you a lot of money for it". I told her that I was not interested in paying for an emailed quote and hung up. I don't think this is a real construction company, I'm not sure what this place actually is. Don't be fooled! read more

Salesman came in wasted an hour of our time. Said he would leave a brochure but didn't. Said he would call back but didn't. Gave us a flat quote for the bathroom job here.. But never quoted the painting job we needed as if he wasn't interested. Seems as he was trying to size us up financially to see what could be gotten out of us. Bathroom quote was very high. We have a small bathroom.. Charges the same whether it's a small or large bathroom. Unless you have money to burn would not go with this company.. that's if they even get back to you. Also, Yelp hides reviews, so look below for the 'unrecommended' reviews My wife and I employed Budget Construction Company (Don Schneider and Alan Gross) to renovate two bathrooms and a stairwell for us last Summer. At the time, they had come in at a price-point approximately 20% below everyone else we had submit a proposal. While it raised a red flag for me, after a reassuring conversation with Alan where he explained to me that they would not leave the job until we were satisfied, we signed up to work with them. The first issue came up 48 hours into the job after they partially demo'd our downstairs bathroom on the first day and then didn't show up to work on the second. On the third day Don and Alan let us know that the quote they gave us was going to need to increase another $5K (after 'guaranteeing' the original rate we contracted for). After a lot of conversations, it was agreed that mistakes can be made, and that in exchange for the change in compensation the job would be complete on schedule (spoiler alert: the project took two months longer than they scheduled - mainly due to their lack of attention to detail and Alan's poor organization skills related to ordering the agreed materials on time). While there were constant flaws throughout the project (mislaying tile, poor installation of both toilets, destroying 100 year old trim needlessly and then haphazardly tacking on a cheap substitute as replacement, etc.), the stairwell upsets me the most as their cost-cutting approach to reconstructing the stairwell was to break off the ends of existing/worn down stairs, lay new steps and then glue on facades over the existing risers. One month later and the job looked like a complete wreck. Someone else will have to come in to redo that entire portion of the job. By the time we finally had enough of the incompetence, we did our final walk through, discussed the elements that we weren't pleased with (still), and they closed the books on the project. Within one hour of Alan leaving our house, Don was on the phone with me asking for the remaining payment. No acknowledgement of the poor service, poor work or delays they caused. Trust me: if you are looking to have the work done on your own house, you are better paying the higher price. You'll end up doing it anyway - either by them miscalculating costs initially, or by having to pay someone else to clean up their poor work. read more

We are out of state but had Budget Construction working on a project in Chicago. They are horrible at communication which is key when renovations are being done in another city/state. Hard to get ahold of someone with actual information. Terrible with technology. Had to have the SAME conversations over and over and over again. I don't think they had any notes on the renovation because they'd continue to have the same questions. Would not recommend. read more

So, I bought all my materials for a lighting remodeling project from a third party and contacted Don at Budget Construction to have his crew install the products Upon looking at my materials, they let me know all the things that would and would not work. They gave me suggestions on what i needed to get make this project work out. These guys are extremely professional and very knowledgeable. This is the precise reason you should rely on the help of experts when buying your materials! They were very patient and kept in touch to see when i would receive the parts i needed. They were able to schedule times to come install within a few days and always arrived exactly on time. The finished product looks fantastic and they gave me an unbeatable price, despite then having to come out multiple times to finish the project. We needed a total reconstruction of the bathroom which still had the original 100 year old tub. Derrick and Andy worked hard and long to build an amazing new space, using quality products throughout. Robert tiled the floor and walls professionally, taking the time to get exact fits. Our preferences for the new bathroom interior were honored, and the professional result was impressive and personal. I have never had Budget perform any work for me, so I cannot comment on the quality of their work. However, I would never engage to them to work as they cold call soliciting work. My phone number is on the do not call list. I question the ethics of any business soliciting business on the phone when that phone number is on a do not call list. In summer of 2016, I had Budget expand my basement apartment (legal), increasing the size of the bathroom and living space into my existing basement. The work was all done by the same person - Greg. Bathroom work (new vanity, toilet, shower, walls, ceiling, floor and door) was done in 40 working hours. Water, drains and electric have all worked well. Living space was also expanded (kitchenette, walls, replace window, custom electric, door and tile floor - I was surprised how level the floor tile was given the 100+ year-old basement). Electric worked as planned. About 60 working hours to complete. Whole thing cost just under $30k -- the work was done quickly and it was all good craftsmanship. No problems to report. read more

So this review is not for Budget, but for the new guy they sent to fix what the previous contractors they sent messed up--his name was Greg. He was fast, efficient, and did a wonderful job. He was also very nice. If they had sent him to begin with, I would have given a much higher rating. And that shower door that they couldn't install for four months? He did it by himself immediately. Worked with Budget recently to remodel our first floor bathroom and install new interior doors on the first floor of our house. Michael came out twice to meet with us, and was a good salesman without being pushy. Very personable and friendly, and I thought was a fair price for the work we wanted done ($13K, in line with other estimates we received). When Mario came out to look at the house to measure and schedule work, there were several items not included in the contract that we specifically talked about with Michael (removal of old door frames, full tile of bathroom) which had to be confirmed as they were not in writing. I could not get a call back from Michael after calling the office a couple times, but did hear back from Mario after a few days saying the work was ok as discussed. They started work in the bathroom, and made a good attempt to put plastic up and keep things relatively neat and clean, but with any work involving tile and drywall there is no stopping the dust. However, the quality of the work was excellent and we are pleased with the outcome. Our doors had to be special ordered, and a couple of them were damaged in transit. They did not accept the doors due to the damage. I was very appreciative of that, but it did add several days on to the project since they had to be re-ordered. Upon completion, Don was willing to work with us on a final price as we had purchased some items that were included (vanity, some tile, etc.) and they gave us an allowance for them. We have noticed some gaps in the wall tile grout but they have been responsive as to coming to fix it. Overall a good company to work with, but make sure you get everything in writing (as usual)! read more

I don't recommend going with Budget. Michael R is a nice guy, but when he came out, he told me he could completely work within my budget, it would be no problem. He took no notes, and gave me no written quote. I wanted a breakdown of the costs to see what I could realistically get done in my budget. Finally after following up with them a few times, Michael and his Proj Mgr came out. They quoted MORE THAN DOUBLE what they said it would cost initially. It was very frustrating for me because it was such a waste of time and was extremely unprofessional. Unwilling to provide any sort of documentation, in fact the woman at the office said they normally charge a few hundred dollars for a written quote, and even after Michael said he would give me one, just stopped calling/responding. I should have just read the reviews and not bothered making an app't. for an estimate. 1st-they called me and said they were working in the area and listed off a number of job..including floor sanding. I said send me information. When they didn't, I called them, finally got an app' t but no paperwork, just an amount and 'eye balled' it rather than measuring..and how they are a great company. I called for the estimate WRITTEN out-three times! ...never came. I just called now and she said they didn't send it because I would never use their company because i mentioned their YELP reviews aren't that good......and they had SO MANY customers...they are SO busy. Be prepared that they talk about 'financing' right away rather than the job they do. Also be prepared they write NOTHING down. A waste of time. Sounds like they do a 'great job' for some people..but maybe those are the people who 'finance' with them. And the Yelp reviews are basically the same over and over again. read more

This company gets one star, for the simple reason that the guy who came out seemed to have good ideas about what they could for us. I'd called them for an estimate for remodeling of my enclosed deck. He had quite a few suggestions for what they could accomplish. He looked it over on a Thursday and we talked about what we want to happen and he left promising to send me an emailed proposal over the weekend in 2-3 days. So we waited. By Monday we were skeptical, but figured it was delayed for some reason. Tuesday I called their office and a woman in their office said our salesman would call me back in 30 minutes. Nope, didn't happen. This morning I called again and waited on hold while a woman sorted out who should call me back. She said someone could call me back in a little while. I told her that if they do not want the job for whatever reason, stating that is the appropriate thing to do. I wouldn't take the chance of hiring this company and assuming the work is any better than this side of their business practice. read more

We reached out to Budget initially to give us a quote for our master bath because we thought we had some issues there. Michael came out and looked at the bathroom and gave us an immediate quote of $30-$40k (without even measuring, looking at material costs, etc.) Never offered to write up a quote. In the meantime, we decided that we would rather update our kitchen and save the bath for next year. Michael was quick to come out and give us his ideas, but when it came time to actually provide a quote, we have nothing. I have reached out to the Company twice and received the message that 'he's working on it'. It's been more than 3 weeks now and I've heard nothing from them. I'm assuming they don't want the job. This has been a waste of my time. I should have thoroughly read the comments here prior to calling. Very poor customer service. I would think twice about doing business with Budget. read more

Michael came out to do a quote. Out of all the contractors, he's the only one who never wrote anything down. He spent most of the time talking about how great his company was and how great his work was, but didn't really seem to pay much attention to what I wanted. He was really egotistical. He said he'd have a quote in the next few days. I had to call 3 times, only for him to finally call back and say he didn't think he'd be in my budget. Well of course not, if you would have listened maybe he would have been more accurate, he was more than 18,000 higher than the highest bid. This company is a HILARIOUS nightmare. I think they must have a service/ their employees writing their good reviews. Otherwise it would be helpful if the people who somehow got them to answer their phones or meet a single deadline would outline their methods: Gold bars, first born child? It can't be time or energy because we tried that. We signed a contract outlining the details of the work to be done and the amount of money we would pay. Two weeks later we COULD NOT get them to give us a start date. When my partner (who is a professional project manager) finally got Don on the phone (the only person who answers their phone), Don said it would cost 5k-10k more than THE CONTRACT WE SIGNED and they wouldn't be able to start for another 3 weeks. It wasted so much of our time and we made SO many phone calls to get even the initial steps underway. How these people stay in business is beyond me. I look forward to reading the next 5 star review they post immediately after this one saying, "I am just baffled by these bad reviews.' I would give this shady company 0 stars if that were possible. My roof was leaking so I called Budget to repair it. They came out, fixed it, and 5 years later which is today, it started leaking again in the exact same spot! How long should a roof last? Longer than 5 years I think. I call them to let them know what happened and they tell me that they will have someone call me but their work is only under warranty for only 1 year. I would have thought that it would be quality work and I wouldn't even be having this problem. So sorry I had this company do my roof! They never called me back. I had to keep calling until I finally got someone to come out to look at my roof. When the guy comes out, he climbs onto the roof and he's there for all of 15 minutes. He comes down, puts the ladder back in his truck, and sits in the truck. A second later I get a call from the office and this woman says, my roofer is at your house, he just fixed your leak, and now you have to pay him. Pay him? Pay him what? We never discussed any payment?! I made an appointment for him to come out and find out why my roof was leaking after only 5 years? He came out to look at it! There was never a discussion of any work to be done, what was to be done, how long it would take, and how much it would cost? He was only up there for 15 min.! I said all of this to the rep who called me and to the roofer who finally got out of his truck and came back to my house, I guess to collect some random payment for work I knew nothing about that only took him 15 min to do? You can't work on someone's property without their knowledge and then demand money for it? OMG! About 15 min later, the rep calls back and tells me to forget about the payment. I guess they realized how ridiculous and how illegal that was! I would never recommend this shady, unprofessional company! Please find someone else.
