I will agree with the sentiment of the other less positive reviews that communication can be lacking at times. I had my closet redone and ordering a custom door took longer than it should have (not their fault), but the communication while waiting for was lacking. I assume this is because they are a small shop and pretty busy not out of malice or incompetence. THAT BEING SAID. I had a great experience with DBR; the crew was considerate, kind and clean. They worked hard and did a good job. They completed many tasks adjacent to what I had asked for in the remodel. Overall I am very pleased with the work they did and I would use them again. The experience with DBR was fantastic. James, Alex, and Adrian were extremely communicative, friendly, and true professionals. We were preparing our condo for sale and needed to update the place to look a little more modern. DBR provided much attention and care to every last detail. Our built-ins and kitchen cabinets looked brand new after their refinishing. The marble surround on the fireplace was meticulously placed. The walls were buttery smooth after their paint job. Our master bathroom was not a complete gut, just a mini-refresh. DBR was able to run the plumbing to accommodate a double vanity in no time and run the electrical to allow the mirror to function properly. I needed a shower door installed this weekend. James and Ivo did an excellent job!! They showed up on time, provided really good advice and did an excellent installation, leaving the place spotless afterwards. Since the door was so heavy (81lb) they recommended adding studs which they were able to add in the adjoining room. The workmanship was totally professional and very neat. The entire duration of the project, it felt like we were an afterthought. Communication, both with their own workers and with us as customers, was abysmal. There were way too many prolonged periods of radio silence despite attempts to reach out for information, and way too many times in which we were not listened to, especially in regards to scheduling anything. At one point, someone showed up late in the evening to deliver additional materials and haul away the old deck scraps. This wouldn't have been a problem had I known they were coming, but this was not communicated. Instead, they just showed up in the alley and hopped the fence, and I had to confront them to find out who they were. It ultimately took over three months to complete a project that we were told would take two weeks to complete upon signing the contract. Several contractual items were forgotten about during construction and needed to be addressed after the fact. It turns out these forgotten items were never communicated to the workers in the first place, and they wound up having to return on a weekend once it was acknowledged that these items were missed. Even after that, there was still minor electrical work that needed to be completed, and when the electrician came out, I learned that the workers had severed the electrical that was previously there, leaving a hazard under the deck for weeks, unbeknownst to us, which led to more work for the electrician as well.  While the finished product wound up being quite nice in the end, based on this experience, I would not seek additional services from DBR, nor would I recommend them to anyone. Edit: This is not the place to share where we were, but the point remains that these things were communicated with our rep, but this was not ever taken into consideration when scheduling, despite promises made by our rep. We were told what we wanted to hear in the moment, but we were ultimately ignored. I did not have any contact for anyone else at DBR besides our rep. All communication went through him, and he failed to properly communicate with us. I was not made aware that the electrician was out of town. The electrician was not made aware of when we were not available, despite letting our rep know this several times over. Our rep's absentmindedness was ultimately detrimental to the completion of this project. read more

Didn't get the chance to work with them so can't comment on that since they never showed up for my appointment. Talked to Brian (operations) yesterday, kept going on about client service and how i can call him any time for help or questions etc. Setup an appointment for a quote for 2pm today. Called at 2:15 and got his voicemail. Texted him at 2:30 and no response, left another voicemail at 3pm still no response. Extremely poor client services that you don't even have the decency to cancel the appointment or call/text me back. Pretty much got ghosted by them... Update to response: this is not true. He tried to call me a day later and I was on a business call and unable to answer. He did not leave a voicemail and there is no message on Yelp. In these times client service is even more important than ever and not even letting me know you won't be able to fulfill your setup appointment is unacceptable. read more

This has been a project that was interrupted only by the weather! Other than that, James and his crew are honest, hardworking and took pride in what they do!! Before we began- James met with me and we chatted about what I wanted to replace- he listened and then told me what they could do. No pressure, no hard sell. Suggested what would work for our limited space. We met several times after that, emails answered promptly. The guys were all friendly, too. They picked up ALL of their mess and power washed where they had their equipment and tools! Here's why I will use them for my next project- on the day James came to collect payment- we walked thru the project one more time so he was assured that it was done to our satisfaction; then his brother shows up, Evo (not sure I got that name right!) He hadn't been part of the project as he handles inside construction, but wanted to check on it. As we chatted, I said I should've done our fire pit with a little variation- they BOTH did my design change right then and there!! I have a very bright and over the top sense of home decor style, and I'm a perfectionist. So I was very worried about hiring a team because in my mind I had big, bright dreams and I was not sure anyone would be able to first understand my vision and second execute it with as much attention to detail as I have. DBR met and exceeded my expectations. I had two projects, the larger bedroom project which was removing a load bearing wall and the old trim, repairing and refinishing my hardwood floor, installing chair rail, new base/trim and crown molding, and putting up wallpaper. I was particularly worried about my very detailed wallpaper because they were super expensive and I would have noticed any mistakes, but it came out perfect! The second smaller project was my bathroom where they also hung wallpaper and replaced all my wall accessories. All the guys that worked on my projects were very nice. When I explained my vision they got it and worked hard to do everything how I wanted it, even if I'm sure it was a bit much. I've heard horror stories where contractors quote you 2 weeks and the projects take months, especially since we were living in my basement but they came on time every day and finished it in exactly two weeks as they projected. My wife and I hired Ivo and Team to help us restart finishing a basement. We had previously hired a separate contractor in March and had to fire him half way through due to terrible work and prolonged timelines. We found DBR Builders who worked with us to demolish the previous work and start fresh. 5 weeks total is all it took for them to demolish the old work and completely finish our basement. Electrical, drywall, painting, flooring, and building a bar area. The finished product was better than we could have imagined and now we're slowly finding decorations to make it feel like a true "man-cave". We were very impressed with Ivo, his team/crew, and their professionalism and timeliness. I tried my best to not watch over the project too much (considering the disaster of a job my previous contractor did), but even when I had questions or concerns, Ivo and team were very helpful in answering my questions and making sure I felt comfortable with their plan of action. The only small hiccup we had was when it came to our choice in paint. We had specified to DBR the paint color and brand that we wanted to use on our walls, but not the specific finish. We assumed that we would use at least satin paint, especially in the bar area where we expect high traffic, spilled drinks, etc. It wasn't until all the paint was up and we saw some chips/scratches that we realized it was flat paint. When asking DBR if there was anything we could do like repaint it with a more durable finish, they asked for a rather significant upcharge. They did however make sure all imperfections in the paint were touched up before officially being done with the project, which I greatly appreciated. I would consider that hiccup a 50/50 responsibility. We should have clarified, and they should have asked. But either way, I understand they're a business and are not working for free. Just was surprised they asked for as much as they did. Make sure to be as clear as possible in this area what you're looking for. Nevertheless, if that's the worst hiccup we had, we came out pretty good. All-in-All, we are very pleased with our finished product and are very thankful for DBR. Would highly recommend to someone needing a job well done by professionals! 9.5/10! read more

This company was referred to me by my lender in April 2021. Someone named Terrence reached out and came over to give me a quote for a one-unit renovation project. This is not a full gut project however, there were a lot of things that needed to be done, replacing doors, laying planks, creating a laundry room, remodeling kitchen, etc. We walked through my apartment at least 1 hour. On 4/17/2021, I paid $300 via ZELLE to 773-756-8878 for a quote. DAYS GO BY NO QUOTE!!!! I finally receive a quote on 4/28/2021 at 1:42am! When I realized I finally got the quote that morning I opened it up to review the items there. None of what we discussed was in the quote. I replied via email with a list of items that were missing from the quote. It had to be a mistake and maybe I got someone else quote instead. I emailed and called..... NO RESPONSE! I called the company left multiple voice messages! NO response!!!!! No call back! Nothing whatsoever. We're now in June! No quote and at this point they stole $300 from me! Beware of who you pay for a quote. I really do believe this company is a scam and they refuse to return my calls or give me a full quote which is what I paid for. I will be reporting this to my attorney and they can handle it from there. read more

Single family home with multiple flat roofs. ALL of which were leaking. Had one estimate tell me I needed to replace doors AND roof. Dbr gave free initial estimate quite a bit lower and was detailed about why I didn't need to have doors replaced. They then brought out their roof specialist who added a few other recommendations like roof venting and replacing of threshold. This brought the estimate up quite a bit but to be fair it did include a roof that I didn't include on initial estimate. The guys came, kept me updated, sent me pics when I wasn't around and overall had great communication. Was very happy with end product. I'm not super knowledgeable about roofs but they didnt seem to cut corners which my last few roof guys seem to have done. Have had 2 pretty hard rains and dry as a bone so far. If it changes will let you guys know but they do have a 5 yr guarantee. read more

Competitively priced and delivered on the vision to remodel our basement. We liked how they shared ideas that created more storage by closing off a part of a hallway and putting enclosed storage space under the stairs. They painted, installed vinyl flooring, removed walls to create an open layout and redid our stairs so we could actually use them (the ones when we moved in were to steep), and put in a wet bar. I needed to replace our old wooden front porch and stairs with composite materials [ no maintenance ]. DBR was recommended to us by our daughter. The cost of the estimate was within our means, so we decided to replace the porch and stairs. Our project manager- James was right there to help us select the material and color and was available for any questions about the project. The actual tear down and rebuild was performed by a young man [ Peter ] He completed the project in 2 days all by himself. Amazing! All the old porch material and other debris was cleaned up and hauled away. Needless to say, my wife and I are very happy with our new porch!
