The happy hour and the incredible made-to-order breakfasts were the deciding factors in choosing Hotel Nichols. The location couldn't be better, easy walk to the beach and right in the middle of all the shops and restaurants. Our room was perfect, it was very roomy and had all the amenities we needed, the bathroom was huge. Most of all, we had fun chatting with everyone during happy hour, the wine was great, and the charcuterie board and appetizers were delicious. On Saturday night, Nick even grilled hot dogs for everyone, they were so good! Live entertainment and all! I read the reviews before booking, and everyone was right! Scott, Nick, Todd, and Aaron couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. (The fact that I know their names tells you everything.) As we sat in the lobby drinking tea, I told my daughter I wish I had some chocolate, maybe I could run outside for something. Next thing I knew, Todd presents me with a small box of chocolates! I really enjoyed the bikes that the resort provides. Riding around the blueberry fields was a very peaceful and bonding experience. This resort was a wonderful experience for my family. If there were things to do onsite, we were not made aware. We did go on a mimosa hike with the owner but she didn't elaborate or engage with everyone in the group. The staff is only there limited hours and did not provide a lot of information upon arrival. While in the pool the staff came in and had discussions about other people and seemed to do a lot of gossiping, which is in poor taste in front of guests. This may be the place for some people but we would not recommend it.

So I was very pleased to find this inn in Fennville, just next to the Saugatuck-Douglas resort area. There is a coffee station upstairs for making single cups of gourmet coffee. And a porch upstairs for relaxing and sunning. The breakfast is served not in the dining room but in an enclosed sun porch.. The food was excellent and the hostess very pleasant. She does own dogs, small dogs that have to kept from the stairs by a doggie fence so guests must negotiate the doggie fence. However, upon sitting down to breakfast, the hostess introduced me to the capsules she had placed at my setting. They were some sort of fruit and vegetable powder or concentrate and she extolled their virtues and invited me to try them at no cost of course. I am not a believer in replacements or artificial products like margarine or weight-reducing shakes or pills, so i thought nothing of it. She explained that they are actually better than real veggies and fruit and claimed that they had the classic curative powers of other type products. She gave me a small supply and wanted to know if she could call me in 30 days to follow up on my progress with them. I was not interested, but I felt her disappointment. She has a small "store" at the reception desk with Eastern medicine products and items to accompany her Reiki services. I wasn't about to sign up for one of those after the nutritional product solicitation. Frankly I think it is inappropriate to be hocking such products at a B&B without asking guests in advance. I have since had need of a pet-friendly inn in that area but will not return for that reason. Otherwise, I thought her establishment was first-rate - it's just unfortunate that she cannot separate her money-making interests.
