Such a FUNKY hotel!…read more This was a lucky find. We prefer unique and interesting places to stay, and City Hall Grand did not disappoint. Highly recommended. It's a 100+ year old municipal building, obviously not intended for lodging, yet the owners made it work. It's a bit of a time capsule with updated decor and amenities. We walked around every floor, soaking up the architecture and millwork of a bygone era. The entire place felt clean and safe. We stayed in the Mail Room (I've been told you start there, and work your way up). As described, it's spacious and bright, with a huge bathroom. However, the sunset mentioned in the brochure was obscured by the building next door, because June. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, the room was immaculate, the fridge and microwave were handy, the digital thermostat worked as expected. We didn't use the elevator, or try the restaurant. Wi-Fi was a little sketchy in the room, but stone/concrete walls make it challenging. We lounged on a sofa in one of the common areas to play Wordle in the morning. Yes, there is no front desk. That doesn't bother us, since we've stayed in many self-serve hotels. We never had to call anyone, but texts were promptly answered. Yes, some of the rooms don't have windows, and that detail is clearly spelled out in each room description. It takes a special kind of asshat to write a negative review on a place they've never even been to, or complain about the sun rising in the morning, or century old windows not being soundproof. Seasoned travelers bring earplugs and eye masks, just in case. The location is very convenient, within walking distance of almost everything, and quiet at night. Parking was plentiful and free. Life is short, don't waste it staying in generic little boxes.

I initially thought it was weird to not have a front desk but I didn't need it. With my personal code in hand, I walked up the steps, opened the exterior door, entered the vestibule, put in my code, and the door unlocked. The same code was my room key. Rather than walking the stately stairs to the second floor, I ascended to the second floor using the elevator. Very smooth ride. The Council Room was just WOW. Hardwood floors, 6 huge windows behind the bed, chandelier, barn door bureau, glass barn door shower, wall mounted tv, iron & full size ironing board, microwave, and coffee pot, As a light sleeper, when checking in, I heard the clock tower chime and saw the full length window blinds (not black out curtains). With the firm mattress and plethora of pillows, I died and woke up refreshed. Tons of food options in walking distance. Ample lot and street parking. Minor inconvenience: no nightstand with a plug access to charge my phone overnight. With a little Feng shui, I brought a side table closer to the bed and had a long cord. Problem solved. Speaking of problems, if you have any issues, the phone number for 24 hour help is posted in the vestibule and in the rooms. Looking forward to trying out other rooms on future visits.

Lots of doors ... between living room, bathroom sink, shower/commode, & bedroom. Two closets. Bedroom has large bureau. Large TVs in living room & bedroom. My favorite part of the room is the ledge by the door for hotel, keys, etc. The parking garage is next door. When checking in, I received a parking ticket that opens the exit gate. Worked great. Unfortunately, most restaurants, since the pandemic, are closed on Mondays. The front desk identified the local open restaurants for me. Looking forward to my next stay at this location.

Apparently, the pool closure is listed at the very bottom of the reservation page, but I just clicked through the booking button without scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the page UNDERNEATH the booking button when I made my reservation. This was an overnight stay for my daughter's birthday who was looking forward to the pool. I called x 3 and couldn't get anyone, and when someone finally answered, I was informed they would not refund my prepaid stay because "it is clearly marked on the landing page that the pool is under renovation" which is false if you go to the hotel website. I was offered a free stay to use within "3 months or maybe a year" and told this info would be emailed to me, which I still haven't received. Very disappointed.

The Front Desk person (Imran) greeted me on arrival, as though I was HIS family member - warm, friendly, accommodating, caring, etc. I gotta say, the room was updated, everything worked well. (I have been in too many hotels recently, where the toilet leaked, the bathtub dripped, but THIS Fairfield Inn was SWEET and gave me the assurance one doesn't have to spend a lot to get a hot breakfast, a great night's sleep, good clean bedding, rather decent coffee, hence FIVE STARS. HEY, it isn't a 5 star hotel, but for the cost & what I got and how I was treated - *****
