This rental from Budget was pretty uneventful, which is what you're looking for in a car rental. They had a few cars to choose from and I ended up with a Mazda CX-50 hybrid which was fine and I had no issues with the car. They did annoyingly scam me by charging me for 1/4 tank of fuel even though the needle was barely below full and at most needed a gallon and probably less. I don't usually rent from them but if did so this time since they were the cheapest option. The fuel charge scam is annoying but I'll rent from here again if the price is right. read more

I didn't originally plan on leaving a review for Budget Car Rental, but after my recent experience, I felt it was worth sharing. I had a work trip to Jacksonville & arrived at the airport to pick up my rental. Since I made the reservation within 24 hours of arrival, I was informed that I needed to physically go inside the airport to sign the contract. Thankfully, the line was short and I was able to head back outside pretty quickly to retrieve my vehicle. I located my rental, a Dodge Durango, loaded up my belongings, and got inside ready to head out. Unfortunately, the main screen was completely black and wouldn't turn on. I tried troubleshooting it myself, but nothing worked. I walked back to the counter and was assisted by Lachele. I explained the situation, and she mentioned the Durango was brand new and had just come in, so there shouldn't have been any issues. She came out and tried everything I had already attempted, but the screen still wouldn't power on. She then remembered that sometimes new vehicles can be in "ship mode." We quickly looked it up, followed the instructions, and thankfully the screen came on. I really want to give a shoutout to Lachele for her patience, professionalism, and willingness to step in and figure it out instead of brushing it off. She stayed calm, worked through the issue with me, and made sure I was taken care of before sending me on my way. Great customer service goes a long way, and she definitely delivered! read more

When we made our flight reservations we also booked a mid sized car reservation with Budget. So, when we arrived at the rental car desk in JAX and after waiting in line for an hour, they tried to change our reservation "How would you like a sports car" "No thank you", "How about a Suburban/full size SUV", "No thank you", "How about a full size pickup truck?" "No thank you". No extra charge, but umm we just want what we reserved! After spending another 30 minutes at the counter negotiating, they finally had a car for us. The man at the counter was pleasant and I felt sorry for the situation he was put in due to lack of cars/inventory. Who's in charge of running this place!?! When we went to leave there was a little snafu on the paperwork, one sheet had someone else's name on it, they figured that out and let us depart. Whew! That was exhausting! What a much better experience with using Budget car rental at JAX airport this time. I had the fast break to get the car. I was able to walk right out and get my car. They emailed me the vehicle description and plate #. I do wish they had the space # on the email as there were about 5-8 cars with the same description as ours. Turning the car in was super easy as well. We had an early morning flight before Budget was open. We parked in the designated area and left the keys in the car. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. Waiting in line for two hours to get your car is absolutely ridiculous. No one was working at the budget desk so it was a combination of budget and other rental companies with only 3 workers at the desk during prime flying hours. We were worried about what we were going to do between now and our check in time at the hotel, but this used up our entire time between landing and checking in at the hotel. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I've been through here every for the last years, and this location along with Avis have been elevated to the worst car rental location in the country. No organization, no leadership, no idea how to run a car rental location. I gave them a pass the first couple of times because of covid, (which they didn't handle well either.) Today I guess they were short on cars. Their solution is to run people through the fast break/preferred line, and have them stand in a group in the parking lot. The person who came up with this idea needs to be fired. Maybe the worst idea I've ever seen in a car rental place. (And thats including LAX, Orange County and Honolulu.) The lady in the parking lots answer to everyone was, "if you don't like it, go complain inside." Really? Led by incompetence, and managed to look more foolish than anyone thought possible. Booked & paid for my rental a week before pick up. I was leaving for my trip immediately after picking up the car. They would not accept the debit card I used to prepay because I didnt want to do a credit pull, even though it was a soft check. I had to scramble and call Enterprise. Be sure to clean your rental and vacuum everything prior to turning it in, and take a lot of photographs with the date and time so you can fight the bogus cleaning fees they try and scam you with. I cleaned my rental and minus some residual sand that would vacuum out in a few min it was clean. They charged me $250 for a cleaning fee for animal fur. I was at a military base for 2 weeks and had no animals in my vehicle. I tried to get them to drop the charge and explained that I had no animals in the car and they sent me a fuzzy picture of the trunk (which did not show any dirt or fur), but they wouldn't drop the charges, and unfortunately I did not take any pictures. I am so sick and tired of these car rental places renting out cars that they don't even have. I booked a car for 2 days but when I went to go pick it up they told me they didn't have the car. I've rented from Budget numerous times and before this experience I had 1 complaint that was resolved accordingly. This time however, has been unacceptable. I rented a car from JAX airport July 23-26. When I picked up the vehicle it was dirty but I was in a rush to get to where I was going. Later that evening, I went to leave my location, and to my astonishment found roaches, live roaches in my car! I was 45 minutes away from the airport and was on a tight schedule so I was unable to return and swap for another vehicle. I reached out to Budget to inform them of this unacceptable incident and was informed I would get a complete refund 5-7 business days later. After 10 I reached out again and never received a response. I had to file a whole new complaint and ​sent pictures with timestamps along with the email showing where I was informed of a complete refund. My experience with Budget was extremely disappointing and frustrating. When I arrived to pick up my rental car, I waited over two hours in line just to be assigned a vehicle. After finally reaching the desk, the employee directed me to parking space I-58 to pick up my car. However, when I got there, I found another line, which took an additional 45 minutes before my name was called. After waiting close to an hour at the counter to get a car assigned, we were directed to a "numbered spot" where there were over 20 other customers waiting for their cars. They relayed to us that they had been waiting for over and hour and a half. We watched as people waited for their reserved rentals either small children and frustration. Cars came slowly for customers clearly just cleaned. We waited the same length of time (1 1/2 hours ) and then were asked if we could take a different car than what we were assigned. We asked what was happening and they said they did not have enough in the fleet for their reservations. You should not allow people to reserve a car if you do not have it available. There are time restraints that customers need to work within and adding the 1 1/2 hours causes major difficulty. This will make us not rent from Budget. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Budget. Despite having a confirmed reservation for weeks, when I arrived to pick up my car, I was told there were no vehicles available. I was instructed to wait several hours and return later -- a complete waste of time and incredibly inconvenient. In the end, I left without a car at all. To make matters worse, several other customers were also being turned away, and one person was even sent to the wrong parking spot to find a car that didn't exist. This Jacksonville, FL airport location currently has a 1.5-star rating on Yelp, but that number doesn't do justice to how poorly it's run -- most reviews are one star only because that's the lowest option. I'm only giving two stars because of a friendly staff named Mike and his young colleague who helped me to finally get on the road. Let me begin by saying wow this is the worst rental car experience I've ever had in my life. My flight arrived around 6:30pm and I had a pre-paid reservation for a Volkswagen. I was hoping to get a car by 7pm as I had 2.5+ hours to go. A huge long line formed and there were only 3 people working at the counter. After over an hour wait, I finally got a Kia. I'd have been okay with that if the Kia was ready for pickup. Nope! Another 45 mins of wait for the car to get ready. There was another line in the garage and it turned out that they were just washing the cars. Ridiculous!! I finally got the Kia I waited for almost two hours. But it didn't end there. The car was absolutely filthy with over 60K miles. There were huge stains on both the passenger seat and back seat. It looked like someone puked on it. I couldn't believe it! I had enough at that point and went off on them. They asked me to go inside the counter to start the whole process all over again. The lady working at the counter was also shocked at the car I got after looking at the pictures I showed to her. She upgraded me to a brand new 2023 Toyota Highlander. I thought I could be on my way. But nope! The CarPlay would not connect so I couldn't use the GPS! I found a very nice gentleman Mike working late in the garage who went above and beyond to help me. He couldn't get the CarPlay to work either so he went to get his young colleague who knows a lot about Toyota cars. The young guy couldn't get it to connect either. So Mike went to do another car swap for me. This time, I got a nice and clean Toyota Camry with 3K miles. Mike and his colleague connected the CarPlay for me also. They had to go grab a USB port from their office. By the time I was able to finally get on the road, it was already after 10pm. As a result, I didn't get to my final destination until 2AM. And I only slept for two hours the night before. Funny thing about the Camry I got: there was a pink tag on the car keys saying the AC doesn't work which I didn't find out until later. Luckily I didn't need AC in the winter in Florida. Also gas was a little over half a tank instead of a full tank when I got the car. I didn't notice that until 30 mins on the road. I took a picture as evidence so they refunded me the gas charge after I returned the car. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! Our plane arrived about 9:00 PM and there was a line of 15 people in front of us. Each person took 15 to 20 minutes so we waited almost 2 hours to get the contract and then another 30 or so to pick up the car. This office is understaffed and the employees under trained. Every other renter needed a call to authority to ask how to do something or another. My In-Laws who came in a different day and time had a similar experience. This is the worst experience with a rental car company that I have ever had. The suv that I rented was a 2022 Toyota 4Runner. I don't think there was one spot on this truck that didn't have scratches like someone keyed the car everywhere. The tires were almost bald, the front end felt like it had a ball joint problem. The windshield was broken, the driver side mirror was broken (of which I was charged $79) and was not the one that broke it. I like all of the other reviews had a 2+ hour wait and had to get to work I didn't have time to get back in line for another car. Never come back again, bad service. I am writing to report a serious case of racial discrimination and poor customer service at Jacksonville Airport location on June 30, 2025. When I tried to pick up my rental car, the employee refused to explain why I was being charged over $300 for three days. Because I don't speak English well, I had my friend help translate over the phone. The employee told me to "read it myself" and ignored my friend and me completely. I rent cars almost every month for work travel and never have issues. After the rental in Jacksonville I was told in October that I owed $400 for a car left they had to clean inside which was dismissed after I called because it was nonsense. Today 12/19 (4 months later) I am being told I owe $214 for car damage which was dropped as well. Someone needs to be replaced in leadership at this location and I hope they read this because they are harassing people for no reason. I rented a mini van from them at JAX Airport. Arrived at 9 at the kiosk but no one was at the kiosk so I had to go inside and wait for Fastbreak. I was quickly served, went back out to the parking Garage to find the van was never cleaned. Came back in and was offered a different vehicle but I needed a van. I said I would take it dirty with some compensation or extending the rental by a day. I wa offered another van from another agency that was expected in and would be washed. When I asked what I would get as compensation they responded "a clean car". Really? Isn't this what is expected? As I waited well over an hour I experienced people complaining about an EV car with a discharged battery, a battery dead on the keys, plus another issue I couldn't remember. Their maintenance and service levels are terrible. I rarely write a bad review. But I had to write about this one. This "it is what it is " attitude is terrible customer service. The customer service was HORRIBLE. I waited in line for 30 minutes just to get to an agent to pick up the car. The agent who checked me was super rude. He even tried to coerce me into purchasing the car protection. When I told him that his behavior was unprofessional, he began to insult me and make rude comments under his breath. WOW! Let's talk about actually getting the car... They make you stand outside and wait for someone to call your number. I waited for 30 minutes for a car. When I inquired at the booth on the lengthy wait time, the agent told me that the car isn't washed and prepared until I arrive. What?! Why? I made my reservation 2 months ago for the holiday travel. After the 30 minute mark, something told me to talk the isle. Why did I find the car I was waiting for ALREADY PARKED in a spot with no keys. By this time, the booth agent cut off all the booth lights and went home. After asking another Budget employee on what I should do, he advised me to walk back into the airport, stand in line again, and ask for the keys. Are you kidding me?! I wasted an hour with Budget. I will NEVER rent from this Budget again. I am also letting my corporate travel know what happened so they can remove the Budget location at JAX from the list of preferred options. London, Heathrow Airport, booking through Priceline: Horrid experience. Wish I could leave a no star. I had a Budget Rental in London, Heathrow Airport, England 28-31 Aug 2025. (1) Their price at the location didn't match the Priceline Price in what I thought was a Contract? I had to Pay an additional $96 London Airport pickup Additional Fee! (2) After getting key fob and contract: there was no one in the car yard to confirm the condition of my car. Add was pouring rain, and que of 8 cars to leave the lot. (3) I paid for fueling at turn -in: I apparently got ripped off with price at end (Bill over $500 in additional charges). (4) I also got charged around est. $400 for scratches a passenger side rim, which was obviously there before and was on their turn-in/pick-up photos. (5) Add then -- I never got an email final bill for all the final charges to reconcile? (6) Budget in the UK/International said my Budget Collison wasn't with them? Priceline and Budget US said it was. They didn't honor it. (7) I called to complain about all. Still never got a final bill: asked Budget US Customer Service and UK/London Customer Service. I did get a Claim Receipt, but was told it would take 15-30 days to get back with me. (8) Budget in the US, UK, International all appeared as separate organizations -- not linked by data and oversight policy? Unimaginable in the global-digital age. This was all horrid. When I called their customer service line earlier in the day, they said that's their policy for all airport locations so when they ask for your flight number, put it in! This car rental served its purpose. I rented a 4 door Toyota Camry. But the car itself had a check engine message displayed and was filthy on the outside. The process of renting was quick and easy. The return was even easier than that. All and all I would consider using Budget again I would just go for a better level of vehicle. read more

On Saturday April 12 my husband and I waited on line at the Avis/Budget desk at Jacksonville Airport for almost 90 minutes to pick up our prepaid car rental. There were approximately 30 people on line. I counted 12 computer stations and three (3) people working. Inept, inefficient and slow as molasses. We were assigned a 2024 Hyundai Elantra. It was dented and scratched and did not have windshield washer fluid. During our 25 mile drive to Amelia Island a dashboard light indicating low tire pressure came on. We pulled into a gas station and filled the rear tire with air ($3). Three days later after a day trip to Savannah, we returned to the car to find the tire flat as a pancake. I called Budget and the agent said we could wait and have someone come out to change the tire (there would be a charge) or we could change it ourselves and then drive to Savannah Airport to exchange the car. He explicitly said to go directly to the counter and to not wait in line. My husband changed the tire and we drove slowly, with emergency lights flashing, to the airport. There were about a dozen people waiting at the counter. When I approached the first available agent l explained what had happened and said we were told we would not have to wait. She looked straight at us, pointed to the line and said, "No that is not how it works." No understanding, no explanation and no apology for the inconvenience, wasted time and stress. The car clearly had not been adequately serviced and Budget appears to be pitifully understaffed. Customer service is low on the list of priorities. Absolutely TERRIBLE experience. The incompetence at the desk was shocking. After accidentally putting my PIN in once and then the clerk having me try to bypass it, and it still not working and then making me repeat the same process several more times, my corporate card got locked. Not one person knew what to do and kept doing the same thing, expecting a different result. This goes all the way up to their management-- improper training and support of their staff. Traveling on business... so limited by what car companies I can use. All other options were above my daily limit. So... I have no rental car. Taking an Uber for now.
