I've done business with this company for at least 20 years. Their rates are fair for sending a $200,000 towing vehicle plus an experienced and well trained operator. Distance is not the issue as any person would be able to handle the truck. The skill needed to load the disabled vehicle safely out of tight spots and unload with no further damage is where the true difference is. He also told me to have them choose when to come in the next few days. If I could give them no star, I would. If you look at all of the reviews on google, you will not see anything but one star and so many complaints. They lied about the date that my car was towed, had no type of sign at all, and came all the way to Bloomington from St. Paul to get some business. illegally, and then tampered with the date. I was being civil by making a complaint with the BBB, ands had to wait for 10 days, $1,000 later, they did not respond. I was treated so horribly and was told that I had to walk to a gas station, without any knowledge of anywhere there in St. Paul. I just moved from NY, to Minneapolis and do not know my way around. I do not know anyone and they wanted me to take out of an ATM, $3000! Everything they did, and continue to do, is highly illegal and from the looks of the reviews, crooked and thieves. This needs to stop and may b look into an alternative outcome that's legal.. They went as far as asking for proof of purchase, my actual license, insurance, everything, like they were police officers. I thought that they were in the business of helping people. Looks like I was wrong. They are in the business of helping themselves and much more, lining their pockets with hard working people's livelihood and cash. Not ever again. Truly a tragedy. read more

Honestly, could not have been worse. $373 for them to tow my car to what was a 2 minute walk away from me. While that price is inordinately high, I understood that I had mistakenly left my car in the wrong place. However, when I arrived, I was greeted by enormous "TRUMP 2020" and Pro Police signs and other fascist paraphernalia. It was assaulting to say the least. That being said, I paid to have my car unlocked and went my way. As I tried to get into my car, I realized the steering wheel was still locked. I approached a gentleman who worked at this establishment and asked why my wheel would not turn. He asked why I didn't know how to do it myself and I replied "because I've never had my car towed before." He then said he would fix the wheel but he was wearing no mask. I asked him to put one on prior to entering my vehicle and he smugly and vehemently denied. He then went on to aggressively claim that he could not wear one due to Asthma? (He was smoking a cigarette prior to this conversation) My daughter has severe Asthma and is usually hospitalized for about 4 weeks every year because her breathing is so bad. She has to DANCE in a mask, not sure why he couldn't put one on for a moment just to help unlock my car. We then argued and he said he would "call the police." Okay? I was not in any way breaking the law or threatening anyone, I simply asked that he follow the state mandate when entering my vehicle as my family is immune-compromised and we take Covid very seriously. This was an unnecessary and awful experience. LET ME SAY: The very kind woman who worked at the front desk has NOTHING to do with the disagreeable nature of my review. I walked outside to go to work and BAM! my car was gone. Must've been a snow emergency I did not know about. My boyfriend, which had walked past the car at 8am, told me that he had not seen a tag or anything on it. I called the Budget Towing and asked if my car was there. She informed me that it was. I told her that my boyfriend had walked past the car at 8am and had seen no tag, to which she replied 'Well I'm looking at the tag right now' in a very sarcastic tone. Let's just say that the rest of the phone call did not go so well... I understand she may have to deal with a lot of people who are angry and frustrated and take it out on her but I tried to give her the same amount of kindness that I would like for myself. She was rude and sarcastic, all of which is very unneeded when your car has just been towed. I hope to NEVER have to deal with them again. UPDATE! Apparently one of my neighbors called on my old car which was parked in front of my house for 2 weeks, didn't know that was illegal? So it got towed by our BFF's at Budget Towing. YIPEE. ONCE AGAIN given the rudest attitude, no respect. Was told they took cash only but had no change. Seriously? The lot was covered in ice so walking to my car was an adventure in itself. Was with my father and even he was using some choice words to describe the lady who works there. They have an F rating on the BBB website and have filed for bankruptcy a while ago. Out of control expensive and rude. As others have stated, they are contracted with the city of St. Paul, so the business is not hurting as the owner might claim. "Roy Carlson of Budget Towing admitted his price is high, but he said it reflects rising fuel charges and property taxes, plus the cost of running a 24-7 operation that takes care not to damage cars in transit." : this is also an absurd defense. First, he chooses to run during those hours, and second, other tow companies with similar or same hours have much lower rates. Fuel prices have actually gone down and the property tax hikes (15 to $125) aren't great enough to warrant the egregious prices Roy charges. The bottom line is that the city of St. Paul has limited regulation on prices for towing and if you are towed from a suburb, there is no limit at all. Regarding my personal experience, my bill was $503.59. My car died at the Holiday Gas Station in Apple Valley on Cedar Ave, and I didn't see the sign that said they'd tow it. When I got a hold of the lady at Budget, she was rather rude in tone and when asked about why it cost so much she simply said "That's just the cost of towing from a private property." Really? No specifics? I drive a piece of crap sedan. No special needs. As I've stated, I've never had a tow cost more than $200 bucks. There was no specific reason as to why Budget is the contracted tow company (I suspect Holiday gets a kickback from them) when Dick's would charge much less. This will be my first review. I have been considering joining YELP since my wife turned me on to this organization. I have been inspired to join, at this time, due to a difference of opinion about Budget Towing Inc. of St. Paul with my wife. We discussed our difference of opinion and have always felt free to disagree with each other. I would like to give a different perception of Budget Towing Inc. of St. Paul. Our car needed a tow so we used Verizon to search a tow company. Verizon has a deal with the tow company with their subscribers that they will tow you, I believe, 10 miles, for 59$ and there will be an additional charge for mileage beyond that distance. Up front, the Verizon contact contacted the tow company and made the arrangements to send the tow truck to our location. They quoted us the amount of time it would take for them to get to us up front and made it to us in that time frame. The tow truck driver was professional, polite, groomed, and helpful. He noted our issue could be temporarily resolved, and gave us the option of driving the car home to avoid the additional mileage charge. For the tow it would be an additional 5$ per mile beyond the tow radius set in advance. I found that not only was our tow person helpful, but saved us money, and his time, by providing us with the option to drive it home ourselves. To me this was a win / win situation for both of us. I would expect that in the towing business it would be very hard for most tow companies to achieve high ratings. Tow companies interactions with customers begins at the start of a very irritating and possibly very costly day. For the above reasons I give this company 5 stars and would strongly recommend their services to others. read more

Unethical: watched to news lambaste Budget Tow today, it seems they had picked up a woman's car that had been stolen, stored it for a long time, never contacted her, sent a certified letter which was returned as undeliverable, destroyed her car, kept the money, and had a collection company send the woman a bill for $2300.00 for storing her car. Budget Tow said they could not find the woman, who has lived in her house for 9 years, but the collection company sure did. This is outrageous; I will never use Budget Tow. read more

Paid $399.75 for a car that was towed for about 12 miles, plus retarded truck driver damaged front bumper ($250), ripped of fender liner ($45), and messed up muffler ($100). If I could give them a zero or less I would. Here's their scam - you have to sign over the title to get your personal belongings out of the car or have it towed somewhere else. When you sign over the title, they tell you they will send you a check for the salvage. A week later, they say it was worth $0 and if you don't like it, you can come and take it after you pay the $40 per day storage. I was ok paying the outrageous bill and having to get exact change - that is life and they need to make a living. But stealing my 23 year old son's car after his accident that was no fault of his own is just out right wrong. read more

Just encountered one of their drivers though steaming the wrong way through the Cub parking lot trying to save a few seconds-no looking to tow anyone in that row I can tell you with that kind of speed going. From the very first conversation with them to the last word spoken when I picked up my vehicle, all of their employees were extremely rude and unhelpful. I understand some people put themselves in bad situations where they can possibly "deserve" to have their vehicles towed, however, some people do not. I parked in a guest space for less than 3 hours and someone in that short time was towed away. I'm still not sure why seeing as the sign ONLY said 'Guest Parking' and I was very clearly a guest. My vehicle got to their lot at around 11pm, which means I couldn't have picked it up that night even if I wanted to... However, they still charged me $50 for the following day. Their initial price is insane and if I didn't have the help covering the $449 cost, I would have been in a lot deeper water. $390 for the initial tow is definitely setting the average person back. This company was rude, expensive, not willing to help with my situation at all. I'm sure you feel great collecting that money when people come in, but you are causing a lot of extra stress for us innocent people after the fact. read more

I was disappointed in this company recently. After spending a stressful couple of hours on the side of the road the tow truck arrived. The driver was polite and repectful. I was quoted what I felt was a high price of 185.00 to go about seven miles. When I recieved my bank statement the price was actually 199.11. When I called the company I was rudely told the extra was sales. tax. I felt I should have been informed of the entire charge my credit card would be used for at the time. They go out to tow cars when they are needed and when your car gets towed in they go through it and take any valuables that may belong to you and then lie about it.
