I planned to rent a Penske truck from Southern California to Northern California. My brother suggested Budget. It has been a never ending nightmare. I returned the truck three weeks ago And have still not received my deposit back. There's no explanation as to why the $200 deposit was kept. They reassured me the deposit was just a hold but they never really charged my credit card. yes they did. I've called up to get answers only to be transferred from department to department to department only to be unfortunately hung up on. This is a review for Budget Truck overall. Every store is different, and the deception is the same because it's corporate. Until the end, the experience was decent. However, I went for the full package and paid for the zero responsibility option. The top of the truck was damaged during our move, and they called me from corporate to demand payment. Apparently, even though the contract explicitly states "I have selected the zero damage waiver, I am not responsible for any loss of or damage to the vehicle", there is some other language buried deep in their agreement (which I don't believe came with the rental) that the top of the truck is not covered. I refuse to pay for it, of course, and will never use Budget Truck or rental cars again. No other rental company does this. read more

I just took my truck rental back to my place this morning after reserving it yesterday afternoon. I had an appointment to pick it up at 9AM today, but it was not ready. The guy at the counter told me that I would need to come back in about 30 minutes, because the tech was doing maintenance on the truck. I wasn't expecting that, but no biggie. I just ended up going to Starbucks and getting some coffee. I came back 40 minutes later and they were done with the truck. Basically the whole process took about 1 hour and 20 minutes from beginning to end including the extra waiting time of 30 minutes. Would I call this place professional and recommend it as my number 1 choice for truck rentals? Not really, but the staff was nice and they did the best they could. The agent at the front desk made sure to tell me all the prices/changes up front before I agreed and signed and everything seemed to be on the up and up. I will state that this establishment seems to take their sweet old time on getting things prepared, but the important part is that I got the truck that I reserved. Overall I give this Budget Truck rental experience a solid 3 stars and I'm glad that this part of my move is done with. Thanks BUDGET!!! read more

We reserved a truck with this facility about 6 weeks in advance, and showed up on the day of our move only to be told that they wouldn't honor our reservation -- not here or at any Budget facility. Never mind that we'd already terminated our lease, scheduled movers for that day, scheduled cleaners, scheduled a final walkthrough with our landlords, booked accommodations in our destination, booked daycare for our baby, etc.: no truck, and no help finding an alternative arrangement. We were given no advance notice that no truck was available. If you're considering using this facility of Budget in general, consider how f'd you will be when you're dropped off by your Uber and go in to pick up the truck you'd reserved for the day of your move, only to be told that there are no trucks. If your plan was to joyride for the day, no big deal. But if you hoped to actually move something with your reserved moving truck, this is a Very Bad Situation to be in. Do not risk it with this or any other Budget facility. The icing on the cake: we were also charged a $50 "No Show" fee. read more

Called for help only to be told they were closed for the day, could do nothing to help us, and to call the 1-800 number which we've been on hold with for close to 30 minutes. We walked in and there were two guys standing behind the counter and they didn't even look up as we stepped in the door. Awkward, a little bit? We get to the counter and we stand there for a quick 15 seconds and finally the guy behind the computer looks up and asks "How can I help you?". We told him we have a truck rental for pickup at 11. He doesn't respond and proceeds to typing in a bunch of stuff on his computer. A few minutes later, he looks up and says "We don't have any 10' trucks anymore, just 16'. You're lucky. We almost had to call you guys to cancel". Okay, first you were rude, then the 2nd sentence that comes out of your mouth is that you were about to cancel our order? ALRIGHTY THEN. Terrible. Budget truck rental is an Unethical company and I'd say their practices border on the illegal. Budget accepted my online rental reservation and had terms requiring i pay a cancellation fee if I did not rent with them unless I cancelled before a certain time frame. I got a call from the mountain view store saying they did not have the truck I reserved and I should call reservations to find a location that had a truck. This occurred on the day I was going to rent the truck. I called customer service and eventually Jamal (spelling?) called me back. He said that there were not many trucks available. There was one truck available In millbrae, but I needed to pick it up within 45 minutes, even though I was 90 minutes away and my original reservation was not starting until 4 hours later. There also was possibly a truck in foster city, but he could not confirm this as that location was not picking up their phone. They had no other viable solutions. No ability to provide a van or truck from budget rental car. No vouchers for trucks from other companies. No after hours pick up solutions. I asked to speak to Jamal's manager. He said he did not have one. I asked for his last name. He said he did not give out that information. He said he'd have to send me to the customer service department if I had an issue. It seems they cover this behavior by having fine print on the reservations receipt saying that reservations are preferences and they reserve right to find customers alternatives. Unfortunately, I need to write this on the location's Yelp review. Hopefully enough customers will complain to encourage the local sites to contract with a company more committed to honesty and fair business practices. read more

I Had a fantastic experience here, and I dont know why they seem to have a bad rap. I messed up and made my reservation a couple hours later than I should have due to bad time estimates, BUT the guy at the desk did what he could to try and get me a van early. A very friendly and helpful team that seems to be treated poorly by customers who are stressed about moves. I was nice to the attendant and in return he did everything to make sure my LONG drive up the coast was smooth and easy. He gave me plenty of pointers on how to drive it, where to find cheap gas, and what to do if I have any challenges. 100% would go back/recommend. read more

Please, let someone reading this be a class-action lawyer... I'm no snowflake, this is nationwide bait and switch marketing to generate fees brought on by their conflicting systems. If the corporate website reservation system followed the times that were true to the physical world I would have made different decisions. THE STORY: Go to www.budgettruck.com and create reservation for two days over Memorial Day with Sunday 5/24/15 pick-up at 8:30AM and return on Tuesday 5/26/15 at 7:30PM, which the system allowed me to do and estimated my total rental fees at $97.10 Return truck on 5/26/15 at 6:15PM (1 hour early) and get charged an extra $80+ dollars for a total of about $190?!!! How did that happen you ask? Well, the reservation system that allowed me to choose a 7:30PM drop-off has no connection to the actual hours of the location.... SO IT MEANS NOTHING!!! I dropped it off after they closed for the day, so I got charged an extra day fee AND I got charged another $50 fee for dropping it off after hours. So, I got charged the extra day, but didn't even use it. I would have paid less in extra fees by actually keeping the truck longer. Next time I move I might use Budget... Or then again, I could find someone on the street to mug me and punch me in the nuts... at least they won't have access to me credit card info. read more

On October 25th 2016 i reserved a 16' moving box truck one way and dropping it off to Santa Clara location as a one way rental, The day before the rental pickup a person at this location told me that I will need to return the truck back at the Millbrae location or I will not have a truck to rent. At this point I'm stuck and can't another truck with less then 24hours notice, I agreed to rent it anyway and picked up the Truck Saturday the 29th as planned and returned it on the 30th back at Millbrae location. The original estimate for a one way was $136.39 they charged me $327.52 due to the milage on the return trip. The reason they told me they needed the truck back was it was there only one they had. When returning the truck I noticed they had 4 more 16' trucks in the lot, I asked why did you make me return this truck and you had 4 more he just giggled. I found out it was the franchise owner that called me and scammed me to get a double return on the rental. Shame on you and Karma will get you one day! read more

They called me the day before my reservation telling me that they had no trucks for my move for the following day. I was left scrambling to find an alternate truck. I should have checked the reviews prior to reserving a truck We reserved a truck in order to empty out my moms house in one day. My sibling and I flew from different cities and as soon as I landed there was a voicemail from Budget saying the truck I reserved wasn't there and they provided me with an 800 # to call I immediately called, answered a variety of questions and was told the Area manager would return my call in less than 2 hours. After 2 hours I called back, answered the same questions and again was told I'd get a return call Hours later I see an email from someone at Budget saying there were no trucks. Really, you couldn't take the time to place a call? Clearly the guy, Joe Stack, lacked some courage At this point it's mid day and we started scrambling around to find a truck. Luck was on our side and the staff at Penske were amazing. They found us a truck, gave it to us for the same price and went above and beyond for us. Please be VERY cautious when renting from this place. Customer service is sub-par at best. Our truck was not clean and had a horrible odor. They didn't have another truck to provide and he actually stated that they had not cleaned it. After a multiple conversations, we did get a very small discount, but the customer service here is not good. Better to drive a little bit further to have a better experience. Budget corporate should really consider rethinking this location as their name is associated with it and certainly left a "bad taste" in my mouth. read more

This is a joke of a location. Manger would not receive truck because it was too dirty--mind you we drove the truck to move furniture from Colorado. The manager was super rude and blew cigarette smoke in my face as I was talking to him. Furthermore, I had to drop off the truck in a different location 30 minutes away and pay for gas so I wouldn't get charged. I called THEM to confirm the day before and they decided that they didn't have any trucks available. So now I was left truckless for a move scheduled the next day; Saturday. They had me call customer service and they gave my issue to some inventory manager. When he called back he informed me that there were no trucks in my area and I would have to go to Santa Cruz or Salinas (I live in San Francisco). That, is obviously not going to happen. The owner himself is very rude, unprofessional, greedy, unethical and cares nothing of customer service. I rented a panel truck in Jamestown CA one way to Millbrae CA Saturday to Sunday one day. I was told to return the truck to Millbrae as a drop off with full tank of gas and clean. I did all of that and was 30 minutes early. Put the keys through the drop off slot. Budget billed me for an extra day, clean up and gas. I called Budget and they said that this what the local Millbrae Budget reported to them and that I had to clear it up with them. I called Millbrae budget talked to a counter person who was very short, rude and unprofessional. I then talked to the "owner" who basically said that my situation was tough for me, I do not believe you, you should not have dropped it off, pay or we will take you to collections. Beware of and do not do business with this Budget in Millbrae CA!! Budget Corporate was also extremely unprofessional, unethical, and lacked any level of customer service during 4 phone calls to clear this up. I will never rent from Budget again. read more

Wow, it's REALLY rare to find a business with 40+ reviews that are 100% 1-Star. I think a Chinese Restaurant could serve patrons a hairy rat on a plate and someone will rate them 2 stars because they thought the rat was cute. So KUDOS to Budget Truck Rental, aka SC Enterprises for setting a new low bar for customer service and business operations. Moving from one state to another is a stressful situation, and to have situations come up just makes it all the more so. This was a bad rental pickup experience, and ended up costing me money. For my July 6 move, I specifically requested pickup at 8 am knowing that if I had requested 7:30 am when they opened, I might experience delays with others standing in line for the open. I arranged for my truck loaders to arrive at 9 am knowing that'd give me plenty of time to get the truck and allow for a little traffic to get to my home to meet them. I called the night before to make sure the local facility had my reservation and was prepared for my arrival the next morning. The rep that answered the phone had no issues finding the reservation and said the truck was already there. I arrived at 7:45 am for my 8:00 am reservation pickup. Even though the sign said opening at 7:30 am, there was nobody there. 8:00 am it was still dark inside and door locked. 8:30 I finally pounded on the door thinking maybe someone was in the back. A man walked out who obviously was just woken up, and unlocked the door and seem confused, and said he overslept. Weird! I let him know I had a reservation. He walked outside to where all the trucks were lined up. Then he came inside and said he didn't have a truck for me. Huh? I explained I had even called the night before. I asked what all those trucks were for, he said people with reservations. I explained I had a reservation. He got on the phone and called someone. He was speaking in another language, but from what I gathered, this guy was a relative of the owner, and he was just babysitting. He hung up and said someone was going to bring a truck over from another location. I explained I had loaders arriving in 15 minutes, because at this point it obviously was going to run over. About 8:55 am someone else who worked there showed up, and acted like none of the above had happened. I was so livid at that point, but they refused to do anything. I called my loaders and they said they'd have to charge an extra hour of labor at $110 since they showed up on time and by the time I got the truck and got there I was nearly an hour behind schedule. I get it the whole franchise locations thing is what it is, but Budget needs to step up and take a bit of accountability for situations like this. I should have known better when I read the Yelp review and they had received an unheard-of 1 out 5 stars from EVERY review on their listing. Please learn from my feedback.... it's a) unacceptable I had to go through the experience I went through, and b) unacceptable that I have to bear the cost of Budget's local franchisee's incompetence. Often people say that if you go cheap, you get what you get... but like an Airline, just because you buy a economy ticket for cheap doesn't give the company the right to treat you like garbage. Me and my bf had the worst experience here . 1) We got confirmation that our truck rental is available at that location at that specific day. What happens.... went there to pick up our rental truck and was told that there wasn't any truck available . We than ask them when will the next one be available and his answer to us was " I don't know". With no choice, we had to take the van that was available. 2) We were told to be there at 7:30 to turn in the truck otherwise we were gonna be charge an extra day. We got there WAY before 7:30 and it turn out they aren't even open until 8:00! WHAT THE HELL! 3) We fill up the gas tank as mention on the contract but for some reason the needle does not go to (F) even when the tank was full. Went to another gas station to fill up again assuming that there was something wrong with that gas pump but same result.. 4) Mentioned to the guy at the front counter and he said that was a command problem on their trucks and vans. Instead of letting us go , he was gonna charge us stating that we did not fill up the tank as mention on the contract. WE DID FILLED UP. Why was he trying to charge us when he KNEW that was THEIR problem? We as customers already fulfill our duty. At the end, our contract with them ended up not being closed because we refuse to pay for another full load of gas. That guy said he was gonna have a mechanic come and check on the van and told us to call back. 5) Called back the next day and all we got was ATTITUDE from him. He said exact words or at least close to what he said to us" DO U NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH OR SOMETHING... I ALREADY TOLD U WHAT WILL HAPPEN OK.. I DON'T WANNA HAVE ANY CONVERSATION WITH U" and than he hang up. We called back again and he HANG UP on us. HELLO,,, he was the one that told us to call back . 6)Than we called the BUDGET customer service and told them the whole story and the CSR told us that she will notify the district manager regarding this and also call that place to get the whole story.She also mention that the district manager will call up to give us an update... of course, no phone call for days. 7) Finally, my bf checked his credit card charge and realize that BUDGET already charge him for the van. It was only a few dollars more than what was told before.Even though it was a few dollars more than expected but we were glad that this nightmare was finally over and that we didn't get charge for the EXTRA load of gas. Last words: DO not go there, those ppl will try everything they can to rip u off. We were lucky to not get rip off cuz we stand up for ourselves. Just imagine how many ppl they had rip off in the past. Don't be one of them. If this is your only option, make sure that the truck / van is filled up all the way pass(F). If not, make sure you have one of those people that works there to see it and write a statement clearly stating it as well so that you won't get into the mess that we did. Absolutely worst experience. Made a reservation online for a 12ft truck. Get to this location at 8:30AM to it being closed. Sign says they open at 7:30. Call phone number and the owner tells me there are no trucks. So I call the corporate office and they tell me that there are no trucks in all of San Francisco. ZERO stars if I could! Do not come here!!! Like many other reviewers here have said, they have no trucks. And they literally do not tell you until the day of your rental, and you have to call in. I made a reservation online for pickup on 5/15/16 8am morning. Website did say location was just a preference but said everything was hunky dory. WEBSITE LIES! On the day before pickup on 5/14, after reading bad Yelp reviews, I increasingly got worried and called this branch. The man who picked up was extremely rude when I asked about my reservsrion and curtly said "we have no trucks today, don't know if we'll have it tomorrow, you have to call tomorrow morning and check." They literally were not going to let me know about this issue had I not called. I needed the truck 5/15 morning at 8am and no truck would have been a disaster. This is where Budget general customer service line redeems itself. Luckily I called the main general Budget customer service line and told them the issue (location had no 16 foot trucks), and they "escalated the issue to a local inventory manager" and said the manager would call me back within 2 hours, usually within 30 minutes. Within 30 minutes I got a call from Joe Stack who was incredibly helpful. He told me Milbrae had no trucks but he could confirm a reservation at Oakland (near the airport). Not ideal, but better than no truck! He sent me an email confirming everything and reassured me I would definitely have a truck because the Oakland location has a large lot and literally told me they had more than twelve, 16-foot trucks on site. Joe literally saved the day, I went to Oakland 8am the next day and everything was smooth. Conclusion: be wary of what the website tells you when you make the reservation. Milbrae Budget customer service is horrible. MAKE SURE TO CALL AHEAD OF TIME to check inventory and if needed, call the customer service line to speak to an inventory manager who can locate and secure a truck for you. Oakland Budget truck rental was smooth and easy. Also unrelated tip: I was moving out of a studio apartment, and definitely needed the 16 footer even though it said it was for 1-2 bedrooms. The smaller trucks would have definitely been too small, and the price difference is just a few bucks that you should definitely size up! read more

Upon showing up at the rental office, we were told that our reservation was canceled - no preliminary notice by email or phone call. The attendant was not helpful in finding a resolution and told us to call Customer Service. After talking to multiple people at Budget Customer Service, no one was able to help. I went to rent a truck at this location and had to wait for about one hour to get the truck due to that they filed the wrong truck up with fuel. Then when I got home the lift gate didn't work I called costumer service and they told me that I reserved a truck not a left gate and she hung up on me. Finally I get another truck 2 hours after my pick up time. Then when I returned it I had to wait for one hour to be helped. They decided to help the customer that came in after me and keep me waiting. I called costumer service and they said they will give me 10 dollars back for the inconvenience. This was the worst rental experience I have ever had. I will never use budget rentals ever again. I don't recommend this place or company to anyone. read more

I have to agree with all of the previous reviewers. Just totally rude customer service and vehicle reserved over 2 weeks in advance not available. Reminds of me of the Seinfeld episode, "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to keep the reservation...". Avoid this place at all costs... read more
