Had a great experience with our movers, Malcolm and Dre. Nice guys and very easy to work with, and they did well with the heavy labor despite the heat. We had a snag with truck size, our fault for not ordering the right size, but they didn't make us feel bad, and we came up with a good solution. One item was damaged, but Jamal worked out compensation administratively. I did have to contact him several times, but I believe a new office manager is taking on things to help so things go smoother. I would recommend! read more

Hire Rick if you want a headache moving day and to be overcharged with no response. There were a ton of great reviews so I hired him for my first time moving. Communication was good until he didn't show up. We had booked for one day, but when I received the deposit invoice, I noticed it was from the wrong day. He told me not to pay that and he will issue a new invoice with the correct date. Paid that and waited for moving day. Except, he forgot to correct the day on his calendar so never shows up. I frantically try to find another mover. Thankfully, he finds someone 3 hours later. I did find other companies even for less than what he was charging but decided to stick with hustle. As for the move itself, I know much professional movers bubble wrap everything, they didn't which is nice to reduce single use plastic. They wrapped my tv and vanity with blankets instead. I paid for the 2.5 hours at $150/hr which came out to $375. However, I had already paid a deposit which was not deducted from that and all communication stopped when I tried to inquire with Rick for my deposit refund. I was so impressed by how quickly and efficiently they loaded my piano, couch, heavy dresser, and even took apart and rebuilt a super large bed that wouldn't otherwise fit through the door. Do not hire. First off, he subcontracts his work, so just go straight to another mover instead and pay less. Secondly, the manager/owner, Rick has very poor communication and a short temper. He will hold your items hostage until you pay him extra fees. Hired him to move, everything was going well until he decided to move items to his own storage unit and hold it there for no reason. I considered calling the police for theft at this point since there was no communication from his end. Rick finally got back in contact and said he thought he was being scammed, despite being paid. He then charges for moving the items from his storage unit to the original agreed upon location. He charges extra for this "special" move which his wrongdoing in the first place. But of course, he's holding the items and I need them, so I have to pay. He tells me he'll move them the following day. Turns out he was at the 49er game and didn't intend to move anything at all and he said he was closed. I had to sit around waiting for him all day. He sent someone else to move the stuff the next day after that. The movers are very nice though. He rarely picks up the phone number that's given to him. He especially doesn't respond to texts when they're over 2 lines long. You have to constantly text and call him. It's a google phone, so it redirects to his actual phone. I recommend looking up his real phone number, it's listed on public files as the main contact for the LLC. It's an iphone, so if you have an iphone, you should be able to tell if his number is blue and you can imessage the number. That should get him to pick up the phone. read more

We used this company to move from Brentwood, CA to Ventura, CA and it was a nightmare. This move was our 9th, so we are no stranger to the difficulties of moving. That said, the little communication that was provided was generally wrong (boarding on outright lies from Rick). Our move was supposed to be one trip from Brentwood to Ventura. When Rick's team showed up with a pick up truck and converted horse trailer to move all our possessions we knew we were in trouble. It took three trips over the course of a week for this group of clowns to bring all our possessions to Ventura. Once we finally received everything the amount of damage was infuriating! Broken lamps, broken Christmas ornaments, pictures.... Literally, on the 3rd trip with Rick and I standing in the horse trailer looking at two big boxes of our stuff exploded all over.... we look down and Rick is standing on a pictographs my son with Santa. DON'T DO IT, It's a SCAM. I read all of the reviews prior to booking and decided to ignore the few bad ones because I really doubted that anything bad would happen. I was very wrong, we got hustled by a muscle head. His responses and excuses to his customer's reviews should have been the biggest red flag. We moved from the SF area to San Diego and have struggled to recover from this experience. They broke our furniture, lost various boxes, delivered damaged boxes and tried to deliver other peoples belongings to us (which we refused). Here is a brief outline of our experience: - Rick showed up 3 hours late to pick up our belongings - Rick stayed for less than 10 minutes and left the job to two men hired from Thumbtack to pack the truck and left. - After the truck was loaded he proceeded to let us know that our shipment would be delivered with another shipment (not in our contact, he broke our contract) at that point we had no choice to back out - Rick arrived 5 hours late to our drop off - Rick hired two random men from Thumbtack from the area to help him unload the items - Rick mishandled our items as he threw them around and dropped many on the asphalt - Rick broke most of our furniture (including $2000 bed) - 6 missing boxes - Tried giving us someone's toaster and kitchen supplies "want a free toaster" - Blamed his friend "OJ" for messing up the move by saying "OJ really fucked me over". He literally took NO accountability. - Rick said he would reimburse our broken things and find our missing boxes if we filed claims - Rick and his "claims team" stopped responding - We are missing more than $4000 with of belongings and Rick is nowhere to be found. - Till this day we have not been able to get a hold of RICK We have been contacted on social media from 2 of his customers claiming that they have some of our boxes (they now reside in Los Angeles and San Jose). We have also been able to locate out stollen items on Craigslist and Offer up in the Bay Area. Do not trust him with your belongings. He pays for his reviews. THIS IS YOUR RED FLAG. He and his crew had to be creative in figuring out how to unload, transport and install a 500lb refrigerator down & up some steep and tricky stairs. Not easy! But Rick and Sparky figured it all out w/ humor and determination. This fridge was a beast. They even were able to connect the water hose thing inside the fridge. Nothing but praise for the polite, efficient, and speedy manner with which Rick & co handled our small, local move. Upon arrival, they got right to work-- loaded and unloaded our shambolic assortment of stuff with ease, and didn't even flinch when we presented them with unboxed miscellaneous items that we hadn't had time to better organize prior to our move date. Moreover, when the 2-man team finished up the move in less time than anticipated, Rick kindly agreed, for just a nominal fee, to do a dump run to dispose of our discarded items that didn't make the final cut! If I could I would post a no star rating. I highly recommend NOT using this moving company! I have had to rewrite this review 3 times because it continues to disappear on yelp as I'm writing!! We were in a pinch for a timely move and Rick C., the owner of Hustle and Muscle answered the call. After I described the move, he informed me that he would send over 2 movers with boxes and blankets. Only 1 mover showed up with a personal truck and without any boxes, blankets, or tape! If we hadn't required a quick move, we would have called it off then and there. The mover proceeded to place our individual, unprotected, and unpacked items into the flatbed of his personal truck. This took forever! He claimed that he worked better on his own. Needless to say, 3 computer monitors were broken in the move! Rick attempted to make the break our responsibility. He then suggested he take the monitors, at an agreed upon time, to see if repair was a possibility, however he never showed up. My husband and I then took them to be evaluated, just to be fair. The answer was an astounding NO! They could not be repaired. Rick then went around me and my husband, the clients and payers of the move and approached our 24 year old son, owner of the monitors, to craft a private "pay out over time" contract not associated with his moving company's insurance policy. Rick told our son this would be easier, faster and worth more money. Unbeknownst to us, our son signed this contract which was to pay a certain amount every 2 weeks on a specific day of the week until the significantly lowered value amount was paid in full. The first few payments were made on the agreed upon day ( albeit at 11:00 PM -12:00 AM). Then payments were skipped. The contract states, if a payment is to be late, Rick must notify our son. This didn't occur. Several payments were then late or missed entirely without notification. Rick stopped answering our emails and calls. We then hired an attorney whose correspondence was also ignored. By this time, the reimbursement should have been long ago paid in full. It is not. Rick being in breach of contract is not the only reason I'm writing this review. I have never written a negative review on any one or any business in my life! But, his unprofessional behavior, lack of integrity, negligence, and unethical business practices are overwhelming. I'm sorry to feel the need to post this. I hope that all readers of this review take heed of our experience and think twice before hiring Hustle and Muscle Moving Company. read more

Hustle and Muscle moved my HHG goods from Oakland to Oakland CA. Rick removed my dresser drawers. They did NOT take the time to number them. My computer screen is broke and needs to be replaced and the screws from my TV stand are missing. My bed was taken down and it was not put back together correctly. these guys were on time and handled all my furniture moving with no issues. I had them move a couple couches, bed frames, heavy bookshelf, bar cabinet, and very heavy wooden table (300 lbs total). the large table was round so they got clever with their equipment to securely harness it and walk it down the stairs safely. they managed to finish moving all of that down 40 steps into my POD within about 45 minutes. since we had some extra time I also asked them to move some boxes down for me as well. they did all of this without any hesitation or complaints. read more

OJ and Andy were so great! I put all my very fragile things aside. All asked that a couple items be moved with special care. Other than that, I gently communicated that I hoped we stayed in the estimated time frame. They moved so fast! And they were very careful with the larger items. Andy was actually running up the stairs at the end. They had a long walk from the parking to my front door. Also they were friendly and professional. I highly recommend. I forgot about the bikes, and they kindly said, no problem we have room :) * Of course movers should always be tipped and provided with cold bottle water. I don't recall which site people were complaining about this (I looked at a lot), But please tip your movers. That is an incredibly difficult job. read more

The name of their business should have been the first red flag. But they had good reviews on Thumbtack, so I expected at least basic competence. Boy was I wrong! They not only managed to break or damage nearly every thing they touched, they didn't deliver most of my items for over 3 weeks! And that was after repeatedly ghosting me, claiming they would show up with my stuff and then didn't, which was understandably nerve-wracking. I'm still missing 6 boxes of items more than 2 months later. They delivered some of my stuff to someone else, which I found out about because they delivered some of her stuff to me and saw her name on it. She said when they delivered my $800 smart oven to her and she said it wasn't hers, they asked "want a free oven?" Just total disregard for our belongings. I paid extra for them to pack my items and they just threw glassware and other delicate items into boxes without any insulation. They admitted they didn't even label the boxes, supposedly because they didn't have a Sharpie on hand. Are you kidding me!? They not only ignored my emails and texts about reimbursing claims, but they have the audacity to dispute them with the bank. Beware! read more

Sorry to say Rick did a classic bait and switch on me. Found him on Thumbtack to clean my spa (he's no longer affiliated). In hindsight, it was a side gig for him. Very responsive until I paid him in full after his first visit on 1/18 (Venmo). After convincing me to repeat draining the tub to "clear our the jets" he never returned to finish the job. Cover is still dirty, and he cleaned only 1/2 of the spa inside (never fully removed the cover). I emailed him 1/26, 1/30, 2/2, 2/7, 2/14 and 2/21 to see when he might return. My early emails were polite, I finally asked him to refund the payment for the second visit, and then radio silence from him. As to his announcement about being a veteran, I stupidly thought he'd be a man of his word. My dad flew F86 Sabre jets in the Korean war. My dad had integrity in spades. In my eyes, Rick does not. I gave him every chance to do the right thing to finish the job or refund the cost of the second visit. When I contacted Rick the owner to move me I advised him what needed to be moved I really wanted to help out the veterans which he claims he was affiliated with, this was the worst experience I have ever had I would have been better off getting some of the guys at Home Depot. My scheduled date was on a Sunday at 10 am and I sat at the storage waiting for the movers for a hour and a half and nobody showed up I kept calling him and texting him and he wouldn't reply so we left and went back to the house, then I received a call from the movers saying they were there at the storage so we rush back but didn't see a truck anywhere, now remember me saying when I set up the move I told Rick what I was moving a large bedroom and living room set and to my unbelief he sent a van which could only move boxes no furniture I called and I texted him and no answer and no reply I only way I could get him on the phone was to have one of the movers call him, he then promised the next day for the next two days in which I sat at storage waiting for 2 hours because he kept saying I wasn't there so they left I asked why didn't someone call me especially since they came before the appointment time I missed two days of work and on the last day of no show I requested my money back and he said I would receive it via Venmo which as of today which three weeks later he still hasn't sent me my money back I filed a dispute with Venmo and got it back from his sorry ass he put me through a lot I'm a older female with back problems and arthritis and had to sleep on a air mattress for several days I also had to pay another moving company $427 to move me which cost me a total of $700 and Bay Area movers did an excellent job. Please do not do business with this inconsiderate, non communicating man Rick Mullens or Mullen you will be sorry. And one of the worst parts is he is using our veterans as part of his business which is not cool at all. read more
