As a very long time customer, I feel I can say this. The taste of the food has gone downhill drastically. The last 3-4 times we've tried different things & all have been disappointing. I don't know what, if anything, has changed, i.e. cooks, owners, whatever. It's not the same deliciousness it was a couple years ago. We typically spend in the neighborhood of $100 every time the 2 of us go. Portions are smaller, prices are higher and the flavor is more bland. Please put it back the way it was! read more

Craving some quality Mexican grub along our road trip from Ohio to Millinocket, we decided to veer of track a few miles to try this place based on the good reviews. Arriving at 4pm, the place was way busier than expected (a good sign) but we were seated right away. Both service and the food were great. They have a good beer selection and the margaritas looked great, although we didn't try 'em out. The complimentary chips n salsa were great (both red and green salsa). I had the potato flautas (delicious and more than I could eat) and my two friends had the chicken quesadilla (the cheese sauce inside was so good!) and the veggie quesadillas (they resembled tacos to me, but she said they were good). I really like this place! The food is great, decor is fun, nice staff. If you want Mexican food in the Waterville area, come here and not the other Mexican restaurant in town. I can practically fill up on the chips and their homemade salsas before the meal even arrives. Which brings me to my only complaint: thankfully they offer chips and salsa first, because sometimes it can take awhile before your meal arrives. Such an odd little place, Buen Apetito. Looking for some Mexican food on a random Saturday afternoon, we stumbled upon this place, walking first into the movie theater next door before realizing the entrance was around the corner. The first thing that struck me was the chips and salsa already laid out on all the tables. My first thought: "Oh great, stale chips..." but after sitting down, I realized I had jumped the gun. The salsa options (one tomato based; one avocado based) and the chips were nice and crunchy. Perfecto! I ordered black beans and seasoned rice while my compatriot chose the chiles rellenos. I found the beans and rice combo to be simple and delicious and the seasoning was great! One thing to note, which is definitely by no means a fault (in fact, this could be fantastic when sharing dishes), is that the serving size for the meals is gigantic. The plate of chiles rellenos was massive and could have easily served 2 people comfortably. All told, this was a great little place that I'd be happy to patronize again! Every time I have come here there has been a very long wait. You can make reservations, but only if you have five or more people in your party. Personally, I think groups of four should be able to make reservations, but that's just my opinion. Their cilantro lime sauce is delicious and unique, served up with homemade salsa and complimentary tortilla chips. The atmosphere is warm and colorful and inviting. Not too loud even though the place was packed. We also had rather attentive service despite how busy it was. Everyone was pleased with their food. Even the beans and rice on the side were quite good. I ordered a combo plate with a taco, an enchilada and an entomatada to see what the difference was between the latter two. I still don't know. They seemed exactly the same to me, aside from the different meats I had chosen. Of the two, the beef (slow-cooked, I'm sure) was far superior to the chicken. When my friend asked for a box for the remaining half of her huge burrito, I was disappointed to see that they use styrofoam for leftovers. I thought they were classier than that. I'd still go back and eat their delicious food... I'll just make sure not to order more than I can handle! read more

If I checked in and wrote a review every time I'm here I'd be the duke of dukes duke! So consistently good. I bounce between the combo plate and burrito grande with green verde sauce. The chips are cooked in house always fresh and warm and served with house made salsas as good as you would get anywhere. A must stop if your in Central Maine. However be prepared to wait because even on a week day between 5-7 you'll wait 30-60 mins on average buts it's ok, grab a seat it's worth it. read more

It's 5:15 and we're all a little bit hungry. We've been running around all day, toting people to Sunday River so that they can ride their bikes to Belfast for the trek across Maine and we're now starving, so we decide to grab an early dinner. We arrive at Buen Appetito at about 5:30 and the line is out the door! Ha ha, that isn't saying much, there is only a small waiting area inside the door, but still its 5:30 and all the tables are full! I guess I'm in Maine, I shouldn't be too surprised. Anyways, the service is exactly what I want - there when I need them, gone when I don't. The food is great; the chips and salsa were perfect to wet my appetite before . Its not extravagant, its pretty simple, actually. I got the beef chimichanga and it was very filling - enough for two people really. This resto is attached to what appears to be an indie-type movie theater. The space is small and looks nice. I was looking for a vegetarian burrito, but it wasn't on the menu, so I payed the extra for a meat burrito, but without the meat (a vegetarian pet-peeve). They also use lard in their refried beans, so have them swap them out for their black beans, which are pretty good (a touch on the salty side, but good nonetheless). They only have Cuervo Gold as an option for tequila and their margaritas are over $10 FOR A WELL MARGARITA IN EAST B.F.E MAINE!!!! (Just looked at their website and it says its $6.50, so it looks like I was charged more which is disappointing). Margarita melt-down aside, the food was good and I'd probably go back, but I'll be a bit more vigilant with the prices. Grrr. read more

If you're vegetarian/vegan or have allergies, stay away from this place. They make no effort to keep foods separate in the kitchen. You will find chicken gets into absolutely anything, including the supposedly vegetarian dishes. I love this place! I drive by Waterville several times a year when I visit my grandparents, and I love to stop by with my family. The chips and salsa are perfect and my favorite dish is the potato flautas, which are absolutely delicious. My only complaint about the restaurant is that it can be cold inside, so I would definitely recommend bringing in an extra sweater. read more

This is a very cute 12 table restaurant in Waterville, Maine. The front of the restaurant is a bit disorganized. It took a couple of minutes for the hostess to appear. Once we were seated, things smoothed out somewhat. We were served tortilla chips with some excellent salsas. Wine by the glass was very good. There was a good IPA on tap. The food was good. We all ordered some variation of fajitas. Two of us had chicken and I had mixed fajitas, with steak, chorizo, chicken and shrimp. The portions were enormous. They were different than most fajitas in that the meat was served with melted cheese on top and there was no sour cream, guacamole or pico de gallo. The portions were gigantic. We received 3 tortillas each, which covered about 20% of what we were served. The fajitas were accompanied by beans and surprisingly al dente rice. The restaurant ran out of the IPA that was on tap and salsa verde- sort of surprising. Overall a nice casual restaurant with a few mis-steps. I would go back. read more

We went at 6:30 on Fri and had to wait a while to get seated but I was told it's best to go earlier so we will do that next time. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at on the East Coast though! Usually the rice and beans are left on the plate but the rice here is so delicious! Me and my girlfriend did our weekly dinner date here. She has never been but I have been taking my mother here for her birthday for years. Food is amazing and authentic and the prices are perfect, especially when you see the size of the meals. But, we had a skinny blonde server who I'm going to say was probably one of the worst servers I have ever had ( we still left 15%). Four groups of people who came in after us were all served at least 20 minutes before we even got our drinks. One of the groups was her boyfriend and his friend who brought their own drinks with them in a paper bag, sitting right next to us. They came in 10 minutes after us and had appatizers done and we're starting on their meals when we were just getting drinks. So a half hour dinner for everyone else was almost 2 hours for just us two. Then our waitress asks us if we would like some more salsa, guac., or sour cream? Yes please, thank you, I said. Yeah, she never brought any of that to us so we just asked for some boxes which took about 15 minutes then another 20 waiting for the tab. Super disappointed with the service seeing as they have always been soo great in that area. But still probably the best tasting, fairly priced food in the Ville! read more

I am so disappointed with the Bartender last night. The restaurant was busy big dinner crowd. We were told 30 minute wait for a table, no big deal the food is worth it. Stood at the bar and waited to order some drinks for our group. The bartender asked what can I get for you: 2 margaritas, Jack and a beer. Her response, I don't have time for that I am dealing with take out orders. Mind you the tone in her voice and body language indicated she was pissed about what I ordered. Needless to say we walked out. I get that people can get stressed but seriously you were our first impression of the restaurant last night and you lost 4 customers because of a crappy attitude. We ended up having a great meal at Silver St and the staff all had great attitudes and treated us all with respect, 20% tip for them. read more

Okay, so I have to qualify "as good as it gets" -- I'm a recent transplant from Tucson, Arizona, so my ratings for Mexican cuisine will be skewed -- BUT considering that we are in Maine, this place is as good as it gets. I tend to order vegetarian dishes -- and have found that the fajitas, enchiladas, and chile rellenos are all great. Even tho the wait can sometimes take awhile, I appreciate how kind and helpful the wait staff are (accommodating special requests; making margaritas less sweet; and finding specific salsas/hot sauces). The green cilantro salsa and chipotle salsas are phenomenal, and the hot sauces (for sale) are excellent. In fact, we're ordering a selection of Jalisco Hot Blueberry salsa for our friends back home (no, it's not blueberry-like in a gross sort of way; it's perfect). I had heard that this place had authentic Mexican food, but I've had "authentic" Mexican food before, haha. I didn't know what to expect; however, this food was actually quite surprising.
