We stopped at Dos Gatos on our vacation date night. It was the only day it rained in the week we were there and it was kind of cool out. We walked up and we're told by the host that there's a 15 min wait at 6:15PM for inside seating pur we could sit in the outdoor lounge area. We walked around the block and came back just as the host was calling to tell us there was a bar seat available. We descended the steps to what I could only describe as an underground secret garden. It was compact but did not trigger my claustrophobia. There were tables, couches and the bar. We sat at the bar right in front of the cake stand for the oft mentioned Texas Sheet Cake. I ordered the marg special which was grapefruit; my husband ordered the blood orange. Both delicious but the blood orange was a much brighter citrus flavor. We ordered the chips and salsa with a small side of guacamole. I thought the salsa was amazing but husband said it was too much cilantro for his soap gene. Dinner was chicken tinga tacos for me and duck confit tacos for him. The chicken tacos were delicious, among some of the best I've had. The tortilla was a warm, soft, extremely flavorful flour tortilla packed with chicken and topped with microgreens. I'm not a big duck fan so I didnt try my husband's tacos but he loved them. Our second round of drinks was the spicy margarita for me and the same blood orange for him. The spicy margarita did NOT disappoint. We got the last piece of the chocolate Texas Sheet Cake to go as well as an orange vanilla spice cake slice. We ate them at home and both were very good. Stopped at this restaurant while passing through. They didn't have any availability in the restaurant but had a very cute outside area to sit. We were worried because it was raining and chilly. However they had the best heaters set up. The blood orange margarita and spicy margarita were delicious and we had the nachos as well. The chips and queso were so salty I had a hard time forcing myself to eat them, ended up leaving most of it. . Kept wiping the salt off the chips, but not much I could do about the "queso". I'm assuming this place is under new management because it's not what it used to be. The food was still great but the drinks were subpar but quite expensive. We got seated quickly but the server didn't show up for a while. We were sitting for maybe an hour and fifteen minutes when they told us we had to leave because they have a policy that says we can't be there for longer than 90 minutes. We spent plenty of money and had already paid and generously tipped when they told us to leave. There weren't people waiting for a table that we could see. Definitely not the great experience we had there in our previous visits. But since the drinks were poor, we probably won't return again. Finally was able to check this spot out after seeing their pre-open and open stages on social media. After going down the stairs you enter into the dark lit restaurant that has an inviting bar with an overall vintage and unique vibe that makes you think of a speakeasy. We thankfully beat the rush showing up early and snagged two bar seats. The bartenders and other staff were so friendly and attentive as well as food came out in a quick manner even with them being busy. Gladly tried out their normal margarita and was impressed and even more so look forward to trying more cocktails. If you love tequila this is the cocktail spot for you and let me tell you about the tacos....! Firstly I chose the Tamarind Duck and my fiancée chose the Carnitas and wow both would be immediate order again! They have a great selection of spirits, especially tequilas, and they know how to make great drinks. We had (me) a classic lime margarita (and for a backer a pint of draft Salud from Marshall's Wharf); and wife had the signature spicy margarita. Both drinks were a hit. By the way, it's a cool sign when the menu has one page for food and three pages for drinks . My kind of place. For food we ordered queso to accompany the house tortilla chips. Their chips are served hot and salty (awesome!). Normally I don't love queso because it usually tastes like velveeta, but not the case here. Their queso was good enough to eat with a spoon!!! First, the ambiance is 5 star. Love the feeling of dining in a grotto or castle basement. The bar is very stylish and the vibe is great. Our service person was also 5 star, she made recommendations, she was very attentive and took great care of us. My main beef is the cost of items on the menu. We know an avocado costs about $1. So to pay $15 for quacamole and a few ounces of chips feels like usury. Prices for 3 tacos (albeit tasty ones) were really high. Drinks were also high and were small pours. We stopped in on Tuesday and there was a wait for a table so we decided to order take out instead. After we left my husband opened our order and we were missing a taco. Tuesdays are ala cart tacos so you can try different ones with a starting price of $6.00 a taco, a bit pricey if you ask me and they don't come with anything extra such as rice etc. We called to let them know we were missing a taco and asked for a refund although the girl that took our call was super annoyed she said she would take care of it. Well, we got our refund of $3.00, not the $6.00 for what we paid for the taco. It's not the $3.00 that's a big deal, but the point of it. I'm not even a vegetarian, but I do love beets, so I tried them after a hearty recommendation from someone I had met while shopping at the co-op, and they were fabulous. We all ordered different kinds of tacos and shared. They make their own hot sauces. The owner is originally from San Antonio, so he knows good Tex Mex. I haven't even mentioned the bar! Especially the tequila selection! Wow! You will not be disappointed I can assure you. I tried the spicy jalapeño margarita (even though deep down I'm a bourbon girl) and it was the perfect accompaniment to the tacos and fingerling potato special. The space is very sexy! A cozy, warm basement with several very intimate nooks to relax and enjoy an evening with your friends. It also has a nice long bar to belly up to and enjoy mingling and chatting with the talented bartender who will make whatever you're craving. A nice outdoor patio is in the works over the next few weeks with a pergola to add shade and charm. What a nice addition to Belfast foodie scene.
