The food here is SO good. There isn't much to say about the place's ambiance since you are really only stepping in to order, but it is a tight fit. My partner and I went to check out tBuen Provecho out as we loved trying different ethnic food including Caribbean out and recently had a wonderful experience at another Caribbean restaurant in the area. We loved the setting/where this restaurant was located. It's in the El Vado Motel retail space with many shops around..so it was definitely a great place for people to grab some food from different shops in that space, find a place to sit and chill outdoor. We got a few things to try: nachos, yucca fries, meat plates and a pineapple basil drink. Overall, I thought the price was reasonable. The food was fresh and had good presentation. However, I wished there were more spice in the food as they were all a little bland to me. The portion size was quite good though. Two of us definitely over ordered and we wrapped and took some food home for next day's meals. Glad to be checking this place out. We probably will stop by this area again when the weather is nice and not too hot out (e.g. fall thru spring). But I think, given a bit of bland taste, this place may be better for snacking while we drink/chat with friends or people watch around the area than for full blown meals. read more

This place is always packed/busy when we're at El Vado. I've only ordered the nachos because they came highly recommended. The nachos are sold at a great price for the amount they provide. This cuisine reminds me of the great food in NYC! I get tired of jalapeños on everything! For me, there's a big difference between food with delicious spices and hot spicy foods that make my nose run. That's me. Friendly staff. We have not had a chance to try many new restaurants lately but a friend recommended this one and we wanted something special for our anniversary so decided to give it a shot. I called in our order on a Sunday afternoon and were given a 30 minute wait for pickup. Not bad at all!! I arrived for pickup and the El Vado patio was packed but everyone in masks and all spaced out. I paid for my order and it was all packaged well and out the door right on time. Excellent customer service from call in to pick up. We elected to picnic in our car. The sturdy takout boxes, provided napkins and utencila made that super easy. The food was honestly FABULOUS!! I'm so glad I decided to eat here! Not only do they offer several vegan dishes but pretty much everything on the menu can be customized to be vegan and/or gluten free. I love restaurants that cater to different diets! I got an order of yucca fries and the vegan bowl and my husband got the vegan tamales. Wow! Maduros were pure perfection and something I've been craving and haven't been able to find in town (at least not done the way I want them). I have sampled a few different menu items over the couple times I've been at El Vado so I'm comfortable saying that I'm pretty sure everything is great! This time around I got the arroz con pollo, and the patacones. Everything was plated in a very appealing way, with the right amount of sauces and little extras to make it feel special. Everything was delicious, but I'm a particular fan of the patacones and the sauce that comes on them. Ropa Vieja platter... well seasoned stewed beef, spicy black beans, fluffy white rice topped with a fried egg and a runny yoke to increase the unctuousness... all for me, licking the yolk from my finger, dipping the fried traditional bread into the gravy... so full of flavor. Lovely Maduros on the side and some coconut water to wash it down. I almost forgot I'm in Albuquerque right across Central from the Botanical gardens. Sadly they were out of empanadas but she offered me something else that was similar to flautas and it was DELICIOUS! The food is fantastic, fresh, tasty, decent portions, well cooked, the staff is friendly. However, it literally took 45 minutes to receive my plate. I have no idea why the food is all precooked and proportioned either waiting in a crock pot or a warm for the beans and rice. Was here having a beer from El Vado Taproom nextdoor in this interesting patio area of different restaurants that is adjacent to a dive motel of sorts in back. The patio area was super freezing cold even though it was only in late fall. Needed something to warm me up so popped my head into Buen Provecho right before the were about to close. Saw the menu which looked to be specializing in mostly Central American tacos and tamales. All of the tamales are wrapped in banana leaves which is my preferred method as they keep the tamales very moist. They had a vegan black bean one that I decided to try with my IPA. I also got a side of plantains to share. One bite an I was in heaven. The best masa i've had in a while. Most tamales are just gritty and dry especially vegan ones but not here. The black bean was super moist and flavorful. I wished I had gotten more to go as they were that good. The plantains were also super tasty and moist not dry like you get at other spots. They also had a few other vegan options that next time I want to try out like their Casados veggie bean bowl and different taco options. This a nothing of a space with no inside dining only a large communal patio with tables. So if it's cold outside like when I was there it may not be ideal but if you want some tasty treats Costa Rica style then this is your place. read more

I recently had surgery and a friend asked what he could bring me for dinner. I was wracking my brain to think of a place that would make a decent, quality, healthy meal that tasted good, but wasn't going to cost a fortune (since I knew my friend would insist on paying.) I was so glad I remembered this place! I had the Vegan Casados Bowl and it was so flavorful and interesting--a nice mix of sweet, sour, savory, comforting, wholesome... It had it all! All ingredients were fresh and well prepared. I've also eaten on site during covid times and felt like El Vado provided a positive environment where people took mask wearing and social distancing seriously, but you could still relax and enjoy a meal outside. On that occasion I had the Ropa Vieja plate with fried egg - a little too much for me in one sitting, but every single bite was delicious, so I ate it all anyway. ;) I also had a guava/papaya/milk drink that was fantastic. I've heard the chicharron bowl is also good, but it was sold out! I think this is going to be a favorite place moving forward - good for comfort food when all you want is a little Gallo Pinto - as well as for something a bit more unusual and special when that's your mood.
