My favorite meal this year. Very friendly staff and comfortable seating outside underneath a tree, with fairy lights above. We had the guacamole and salsa, I recommend mixing them together, they pair surprisingly well. A little pricey at $9.60 for the plate. For entrees, we had the green chile chicken enchiladas and carne adovada Christmas style. The latter is one of the most distinct and delicious regional dishes I've had. All entrees had really nice pairings with pinto beans, potato hash, and freshly cooked sopapillas. I've been here several times over the last month or so and I just ordered DoorDash from here last night right before they closed. Each and every time the service has been wonderful the food is great I love just getting the enchilada plate. Also with DoorDash everything was in the bag and the soap peel was wonderful and the enchiladas were fantastic. Waitress brought fresh chips and salsa and then fresh sopapillas. Both the salsa and carne adovada were much spicier than we expected but delicious. Green chile enchilada also had a decent kick to it but not as much as the adovada. Meat was a bit on the dry side and I wish I had more chile to wet it, but still tasty and very hearty. We waited for over an hour for basic kids meals ($10 or more!) to come out. At other restaurants, one would think chips and salsa might come to the table to keep hungry kids from being hangry if food is delayed so long. This restaurant charges extra for chips, so they obviously did not want to bring any out to our table without charging more. We did our best to keep the kids entertained with such a long delay with the food, but we won't be back if that is typical. There are many other restaurants that try a lot harder. Recently made a trip to my old home town Albuquerque. While there we went to El Patio, which has been open for way over 50 years. I hadn't been there in many many years and was happy to see that it is still going. So we left immediately and headed over. It still has the best food around. We chose to sit in the front patio are and it was spot on nice. The ambiance is nice and the servers were very nice and attentive. I had to have a stuffed sopapilla and my wife had a flat Enchilada . A friend and I ate lunch there this week. She suggested it but admitted she hadn't eaten there for a long time. Cute little restaurant. We were seated immediately. I ordered the combination plate: chile relleno, cheese enchiladas, taco, beans, potatoes and a sopapilla. The people who praise this food must not be locals or used to NEW MEXICAN food. We don't use poblano or ancho mexican chile for our rellenos. This chile was paper thin and tasteless. They used white mexican cheese and the breading was so thick. The cheese was also used on the enchiladas, and taco. The green chile on the side was the gravy chile Mexican restaurants use not real authenic green chile. The red had no heat at all! My friend had the same relleno and that was what she was craving. Friends avoid this place if you are looking for authenic New Mexican food and Chile. As far as service, we got our food then never saw another waiter until they brought the check. My lunch was $19.99 (without a drink) the most I have ever paid for a combination plate. If you split the check they automatically charge a 22% tip. My friend paid and I gave her cash to avoid this. Never again. The frontier is just down the street, go there. read more

My meal companions go the green chile chicken enchiladas, which are the #1 seller. I didn't try these, though I did try the sopapilla, which was tasty with honey. I got a hot chocolate, which tasted like 90% water and 10% chocolate powder. Service - it was all quick. The food and check came out quickly. The employee checked in on us enough but not too much. There was a sign that said wait here we don't have allot of staff or tables. So we waited. Not to long until someone came out and told us to continue to wait until he cleared tables. I live in Taos so when I go to Albuquerque to pick up visitors at the airport I always start out with lunch or dinner here to set the tone for the visit. El Patio is dynamite. It's in a former house converted to a restaurant. There aren't a whole lot of tables, so make sure you come early to get your spot. There is also a patio outside but it was closed due to rain. Service was quick and attentive. Our server knew the menu and made sure we received exactly what we ordered, and our party of 6 did! My kids loved the guac. I thought the salsa (*with chips) was hot but tasty. The enchiladas were good. I live in LA and wanted to try New Mexican food for the first time after a conference. The ambiance was nice with southwestern design and it had a rustic vibe. Server was cordial and checked in on us as expected. However, the green chile enchiladas were underwhelming. I appreciated the roasted quality of the chile but it lacked more flavor than I am used to with enchiladas. I wouldn't recommend getting that dish.
