We see that and we are sorry," I might have softened or retracted parts of my review, and responded in kind. But they made a different choice. So we double down, too: Do Not Hire Big Hugs. We will let our contacts in Chicagoland know our experience, and we strongly recommend our lovely Naperville venue's clients look elsewhere for a photo booth vendor. One Star. original review: We were so surprised and aghast that this highly-recommended photo vendor failed so epically: 1) subjects were cut out of photos 2) backdrop was broken and we had to fix it Big Hugs was hired for a large Celebration of Life event bringing together relatives and friends from across the country. To memorialize the day, we provided this service so loved ones could take group and family photos. Only after the event, paging through the photo book, did we see that on the majority of prints, subjects were not even within the frame of the photos! We had approval in advance from Big Hugs to provide our own rented couch to set in front of the backdrop, and asked repeatedly if the couch would appear too low in the frame, or if those standing behind would appear too high. Big Hugs' on-site attendant assured us he would make sure and this would be no problem. Yet in about 35% of photos, taller guests' heads were partially cut off, and guests on the couch appeared only from the neck up. Some were out of frame on the sides of photos. The rest of the photos looked ridiculous because the people on the couch were way down in the lower third of the photo. So, why is an attendant present if it's not to ensure good photographs!? From a once-in-a-lifetime event, our guests took home ridiculous, unprofessional photos as their remembrance. This is not what we intended when hiring a professional photo booth vendor at a premium price. Prior to the event, as the attendant set up, we noticed the backdrop was hanging crooked. Two event planners and myself asked if he would fix this before guests arrived. He replied, "I can't. That's how it is." Our venue manager said to the attendant, "This looks terrible and is unacceptable." He did nothing. So she stepped in herself and created a fix for the broken backdrop provided by Big Hugs. Subsequently, our event planner reached out and explained the situation to Big Hugs, who pushed back saying the attendant reported everything was fine. Then offered a 20% discount. Our planner detailed again the numerous points of failure, and then Big Hugs offered 50% off the remaining balance. That Big Hugs charged us *anything at all* after their epic fail should be an embarrassment to them. Highly do not recommend Big Hugs to anyone seeking professional photo booth for an event they care about.

The payment and contract was all signed the week of the event. The night before (late evening), the company owner Jon I believe called and cancelled stating he was not able to get a flight to our location in Orange County California. Ummm... The company was aware of my location since we were in talks since Monday of that week. They are getting ONE STAR REVIEW, for ruining my party. If I knew they would have done this, I would have gone with another company but they told me the night of. My party starts at 11 am and there is no way to replace such a fun addition to the party. I definitely would not recommend them for this sole reason. I know others have had great reviews but to CANCEL the night of is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Luckily they refunded instantly. We tried not to jump the gun and book the first person we met, but I think meeting with other photographers was just a formality. We had a gut feeling right away that we wanted Heidi to shoot our engagement photos and wedding. She invited us into her home, showed us photos of her work and was just so darn nice, it made the decision to book with her so easy. Our engagement photos turned out beautifully. My husband and I really wanted to have Chicago be a part of our wedding, since it's where we took the next step in our relationship and we love the city- and Heidi found the perfect places for us. We took photos at Salvage One, which has a more urban feel, but has so much STUFF in it that it felt like we went to 25 locations. We then went over to the lily pond in Lincoln Park for a more outdoorsy, softer feel. Heidi was then sweet enough to come over to our house and shoot a few photos with our pup to round out our afternoon together. The pictures absolutely captured our personality and love of Chicago without feeling cliche. We don't have our wedding photos back yet, but I have no doubt they'll be amazing. We shot all over Chicago- from the Kinzie Street bridge to the Art Institute Gardens, Heidi made certain Chicago was well-represented at our wedding. In addition, on our wedding day, Heidi just had this calming presence about her. We had a few mishaps leading up to the ceremony (none of which having to do with her), but Heidi took them all in stride without breaking a sweat, keeping us on track and on time. It should also be noted that Heidi is extremely thorough and thoughtful. Before our wedding, she sent us a list of places she was considering shooting us, but also made sure to get our opinion and feedback. Nothing about her process feels generic. Neither of us would describe ourselves (or our husbands) as photogenic, but our wedding photographs turned out beautifully.
