Yet another update ... the consistency of this place is driving me nuts. Sometimes its great, other times I wonder what's going on. But when they are on, YUMMY. The black beans are really good and I love those tiny kids chicken and cheese mini burritos dipped in sauce. I think they are hitting their stride for the most part. I eat here very regularly now and I have a few favorites and really enjoy the fish tacos (without lettuce!). A few times I get under cooked rice and/or beans and I just want to slap someone. Chick pea and red curry taco wasn't hot enough either and mostly lettuce and cheese with faint taste of red curry and very few chick peas. Pinto beans were cooked perfectly but needed salt. Terrible place!! I ordered beans and rice and MEAT!! It was almost all beans and rice, with very little meat!! Around $11 for beans and rice seems a bit much!! Not much atmosphere. The dish was practically unseasoned! I could have made it at home much better than they made it there, and I am a terrible cook! Very disappointing! I will never go there again! They save money by cheaping out on the amount of meat that they put in the dish, to the detriment of alienating their customer base! The place is always packed! The burritos are still tasty, but they have shrunk so much that it's getting ridiculous. Today, they were about the size of baseballs. Half the size they used to be. The main problem I had here was trying to decide what to order! So many things sounded good. I ended up ordering the Chorizo Burrito (that I think was a special). It was scary big and very delicious. The great part is I got to have the half I didn't finish for lunch the next day. I wish the chorizo was a little spicier, but it was cooked perfectly otherwise. Chips and guac were great. Bueno y Sano is a nice little chain. The food is good for mexican/tex-mex. If you're into Chipotle or Qdoba, I think this is a nice change of scenery while not straying too, too far from what the first two restaurants offer. Ordered the fish tacos and it was above average. It wasn't soggy and it was nicely seasoned. Also got the chicken East West burrito which has hints of Asian inspo. A little too saucy but still yummy nonetheless. Service was nice, we went around 4pm so it wasn't packed which was great! Cleanly and chill atmosphere. Free refills on drinks and decently priced. 2 stars because of all the times I have eaten here in the last 2 yrs, but had my visit today been the first, it would have been a 1 or 0. The guy who took my order (a short guy, medium size, glasses, hat) was really ridiculous. I realized the order was wrong when I checked my receipt right after paying. I returned to him to let him know that 2 more quesadillas were ordered, and immediately, he looked so disgruntled and tried to blame and point fingers at me. He said how he had checked the order before finalizing (yes, and I repeated my order again after he did that because I couldn't really hear him clearly), then he went on to argue how I got my order wrong because I was on the phone. We both knew that I was on the phone to include the orders from people who were joining us, and I hung up to finish up my order and pay. He kept rolling his eyes, disgruntled - unbelievable. I told him that I simply went up to correct my order because we don't want to eat 2 extra quesadillas, and since our order of 4 items has not been prepared yet, it probably doesn't make a difference for them either. He handed me the change, and kept on mumbling. We all have bad days, but most of us know how to sort of deal with it and know the limit - obviously not this guy. Imagine what he would have said or done had the "fault" been all mine?? Ridiculous. I started to eat more at Oscar's recently, and that's where I will return - the "service" here hasn't been good or friendly lately anyway. read more

We just moved out here from the Amherst area and were so excited to see that Bueno has just opened in Acton. I went there with my son yesterday and we ordered our old favorites: the soft taco special for me-comes with two soft tacos, beans and rice, and a stuffed jalapeno, and the chicken quesadilla for him. Everything tasted fresh and yummy-just like Bueno. If you haven't been here yet I would try the burritos-they are huge and delicious-I wouldn't have made it through college without them. read more

UMASS ALUM and I am obsessed with this place. It is not "authentic" Mexican if you are looking for that...it is on par with a Chipotle (although I am not a fan of Chipotle), but on a much larger and less commercialized scale. The BBQ chicken burrito with pinto beans and sour cream is my go to. The food is excellent, comes out quick, and the service is great. Went here today. I've been wanting to go for a while, but never got the chance. Honestly, it did not live up to the hype. I've heard people compare this to Oscars nearby. I am a former "Umass'er" so I got to eat Bueno y Sano quite often in Amherst and Noho while I was in school. I was thrilled when I heard that Bueno had opened a location in Acton which is only thirty minutes from my current living location compared to the 90 minute drive to Amherst/Noho locations. I have come to this Acton location roughly five to six times and every time I come the food quality gets worse. I noticed that the first time I came they had employees from the Amherst/Noho locations cooking the food and presumably training the soon to be Acton employees. The food was great that night and tasted just like the original Bueno locations. The third or fourth time I came the food had little to no taste. The burritos shrunk in size even after ordering a grande. My grande burrito in Acton felt like a normal sized burrito in Amherst. I always order the burrito special just to get the extra rice/beans and grilled Jalapeno. The Acton location completely skimped on the amount of rice and beans they give you when you order the burrito special meal. I went to the Acton Bueno last night cause my girlfriend and I were in the mood for a quick Mexican fix and the rice was hard as a rock and crunchy while eating. It was absolutely disgusting. Their salsa was watered down and had no flavor. It tasted awful. Recommendations: Get some of the staff from Amherst/Noho to revive this place and teach the cooks in Acton how to make original Bueno quality food that lives up to the standards we have come to expect and enjoy. Also, the staff in Amherst/Noho is always welcoming and seems grateful that you have come by to give their business your money and they show that by producing good food. The Acton Bueno staff is slow, doesn't care that you have come to eat in their location, and has no enthusiasm. It shows in their food quality. Conclusion: Acton better change quick or former "Umass'ers" (good chunk of their business) like myself will once again make the trek back to western MA to eat the Buen y Sano quality food we came to love while in school. read more

During my two-year stint at UMass-Amherst, Bueno Y Sano was a favorite of mine, so I was excited to see their "Coming Soon" sign when I passed through Acton. I didn't have a chance to try out their new location until last night, and boy was I excited. I called up and ordered a chipotle steak burrito for my boyfriend and a side of chips and guacamole for myself, as I already had dinner plans for myself. The first sign of things to come was that it took 4 calls before someone answered the phone without immediately hanging up. Are phones that difficult? Or are you just rude? I gave my name and was told when my order would be ready. Great! I arrive about ten minutes later, and the woman at the registers was on the phone, and the two other employees were just kind of standing around. Great! So I wait for her to get off the phone, tell her my name and she just stares at me blankly. "We don't have an order for you." ..Really? I *just* called. Turns out they had put my order (one of only two waiting pick-ups) under Stacy. Now running behind, I grab my food, swipe my card and take off. I was given two paper bags, one presumable had the burrito and the other one was grease-stained, so I assumed they had made me fresh, delicious tortilla chips to go with my fresh, delicious guacamole. NOPE. The chips were incredibly stale. Like, chewy. So it appeared that they were once fresh, delicious tortilla chips, but then they had an illustrious life, living in a greasy brown paper bag, waiting for someone to come along and take them home. I was so hungry that I decided to overlook this in favor of the guacamole, because after all, chips are just a vessel to get the guac to my mouth. The container of guacamole, which I paid $1.25 for, was a half-full ONE OUNCE condiment cup... and out of the already half-full cup, half of if was just one hunk of avocado. So I paid $1.25 for a quarter-ounce of guacamole.. which, I guess, could have been okay-- if it were any good. But alas, like their chip-counterpart, the guacamole had also been living its life on a shelf somewhere. It was oxidized (that weird green-brown color) and had the texture of guac past-its-prime. (you know, that kinda fizzy, not-quite-right, impending vinegar taste? Yeah.) The worst part of the whole ordeal? My boyfriend was SO not impressed with his burrito. After listening to my tales of this delicious take-out for months, he was only "meh." For $10+ and a whole lot of unmet expectations, I could make my own lackluster burrito. We moved to the Acton area from Southern California, where fantastic Mexican food is everywhere, so we are a tough crowd to please. However, we are happy to have this place in the neighborhood and will definitely be back. The menu is creative and the ingredients were very fresh, however the food overall lacked a certain pizzazz. Not sure if it is because they are serving low sodium meals, but the steak on my salad could have used some zest. The rice was bland too. My husband had similar things to say about his carnitas burrito. The restaurant itself is fantastic compared to the hole in the wall Chinese place that they took over. Like night and day with the renovation. Super cheerful and clean with excellent, quick service. Again, we are happy to have Bueno y Sano in Acton, and will be back. We really like the food, which is why I'm giving any stars at all. However, ever single time we go in they get the order wrong. Every time. This happened 5 times in a row. We kept going back because the food is good and reasonably priced. Each time our order was wrong, it was always the same person who was at the register. There was some language barrier and he would put in orders without checking on what we meant. When I would ask for an order to be read back, or when I would return a wrong order to him, he would act flippant. Decided to make the journey to Acton from Woburn with a co-worker yesterday because my 2 year wait for a Bueno Burrito, his 11, had to end! We were both skeptical on the drive there that it would not be as good as we remembered; or that the line to get in would let us down... By the drive back we were plotting to make this a once a month venture! Found a parking spot right out front, ordered in less than 2 minutes, was eating in less than 5. Great service, awesome food, and very clean. They even have the same metal bowl/plates they have in Amherst! Whether you're a fellow UMass alum or a Bueno virgin, this is a phenomenal lunch, dinner, snack(?) spot. If you're a true foodie: this is not a Mexican burrito place that you will find in SoCal or even East Boston, but true to it's name: it's good and healthy! Tried to go here a few days after it opened but there was a line out the door, so we returned a few days later on a weeknight. The wait wasn't bad, the food was decent, but (and it's a big but) I was surprised and disappointed that the tacos were made with flour tortillas instead of corn, which I consider to be the true Mexican standard for tacos. They really should put this on the menu. They tasted like small burritos without the rice. I will probably go back because, as others said, it is nice to have a reasonably healthy, quick option in Acton that isn't pizza. Very disappointed as I once had a very good experience at another location. Staff was unwelcoming- does not hurt to smile and look like you enjoy working with your customers. I very rarely do take out but had to do so- ordered a grilled chicken burrito. Quite honestly, I felt I was eating a pure rice burrito as there was hardly any chicken. I unwrapped the burrito and discovered small chunks of chicken spread throughout but with hardly any substance- could hardly taste it. If I would have been at the restaurant, believe me I would have brought it to their attention. Hopefully this was a one off for this restaurant and not the norm. read more

Just tried Bueno Y Sano and the Spinach Garlic Chicken Wrap for the first time. While not quite Spanish, the food is unique, packed full of healthy and full of flavor. The portions are generous and I had close to half of my lunch to bring home for another meal. Despite the exterior, the inside is comfortable and clean.
