Food is great quality. Service is warm and most staff are skilled. The ones who are slower are still smiling and receiving help from the more experienced ones. If I rated Luna only on the tacos I wouldn't be impressed. I've been spoiled by the many taquerias in Florida I've been to, every single one of which had better ones in my experience. But what brings up my rating and gets me coming back (5 times and counting) is the variety, including more traditional Mexican dishes than the standard Tex-Mex, the very good drinks, the ambience, and great service. On my first visit the first thing I noticed is the "Luna" branding. The name and logo are on everything: the plates, the waiters' aprons, moon stencils on the chair backs, and more. This doesn't detract from the overall look and feel of the place, elegant but not stuffy. One more "luna" allusion: instead of chips with salsa they serve a large round crispy flat bread, presented vertically and obviously meant to suggest a full moon. Many people would probably prefer chips but that's a Tex-Mex thing so this is actually more authentic. And you won't fill up as easily munching on broken-off pieces of the "moon bread" as you would tortilla chips. The taco entree is 3 tacos, several varieties available, served with refried beans. I've had the chorizo and the Al Pastor. Mix and match not allowed unfortunately. They are both ok, and the tortillas are I believe made in house. The chorizo spicing was unimpressive. My chief "complaint" if that's the right word, is they are too simple: just the protein, some chopped onions, and cilantro. In my memory of great tacos I've had in the past there are a multitude of flavors and ingredients: onions prepared 2 or even 3 ways, sautéed and raw peppers, fresh avocado slices, etc. None of that here. Specialty sauces aren't offered by default but are provided on request. Two were brought to my table, one red and one green, both very hot. In small bowls so I don't know if they are home-made or commercial. I like a lot of sauce and always run out so next time I'll ask for a "double portion" and we'll see how that goes. The wife has had the beef fajitas. In my opinion the meat was overly marinated, with the wrong consistency and a flavor I don't expect in a fajita. And the vegetables were cooked with the meat so their flavor was muted. I'd pass on that. The Pollo Mole Poblano (chicken mole) was decent but there wasn't enough sauce. As was the enchiladas 3 ways (one each with chicken, beef, and cheese). Most entrees are served with a side of rice and refried beans, the latter served in a small fried tortilla cup. Portion sizes are reasonable. On the traditional Mexican side I've tried two meat-heavy entrees: Borrego Matitito's (marinated lamb shank with chili pepper sauce), and Chamorro's (a similar dish but made from pork shank, and different seasonings). I liked both but preferred the lamb, and the portion was larger too: enough for two meals. In the appetizer section I've had Pulpo Rasurado (octopus in salsa negra with red onions, cucumber, avocado, and radishes). A beautiful presentation and perfectly prepared (octopus can be tough and this was not). Also the Oysters Rockerfeller (not Mexican, I know). This could have been great but unfortunately was under-grilled so the cheese wasn't browned and bubbling. The table-side finishing treatment by the waiter with his hand torch wasn't enough either. Maybe he got impatient or maybe the butane was running out. I'd try it again though; it might have been an anomaly. Both these appetizer portions were huge, almost enough for a meal in itself. All the cocktails I've tried (several mescal concoctions and margaritas) have been tasty and seemed to have adequate alcohol content. Their gimmick here is all cocktails arrive bubbling and steaming like a witch's brew. I think it's from dry ice? That doesn't change the taste but may help to keep them cold and it's fun to watch. I've seen this before but usually it's reserved for one or two of the high-end specialties, not every cocktail. Nevertheless, the prices are in the normal range for cocktails these days, not excessive by that standard. Service has always been friendly and flawless. Desserts: We've tried two: The Pan de Elote is a cornbread cake served with ice cream and sauce, flambéed by the waiter at the table. And the churros: fried dough sticks covered with cinnamon, stuffed like cannoli, served with two sauces for dipping (chocolate and caramel), and served in a whimsical wheeled contraption resembling a food cart in miniature. The Pan de Elote is my favorite of the two but the churros were good too and the portion size was enormous! So until I can get back to Florida for some truly great Mexican I'm grateful to have Luna as an option. read more

The full disc of the moon as you enter, the phases of the moon on the chair backs, the ceiling over the bar area, the paintings on the wall, the giant moon tortilla (wheat flour) that is brought to the table. This is a lovely restaurant with wonderful staff. The menu has many gluten free items. The server thanked us for mentioning the need for gf. The food is delicious. We have tried takeout here and it was good (enchiladas suizas) but recommend going in person for the atmosphere and the opportunity to try some special dishes that don't travel well, like the molcajete for two. So happy to see a quality establishment open up in this location. What a treat! Have gone their twice now - once to eat in a d once as takeout. Ordered various tacos both times (chicken, fish, shrimp) and they were DEEEELICIOUS each and every time. When we dined in, the service was friendly, attentive, and timely- no notes! It was fine. The ambience is really nice. The service was really good. I got the veggie burrito. It was OK. It looked great, but it mostly tasted like black beans and rice in a burrito topped with some tomato and some cheese. It just seemed mostly like rice and black beans though. The sauce was OK as well. First, reserve a few days ahead for weekend reservations, unless you are ok with 5 or 8:30 pm seatings on a Saturday night. While I felt the $25 reservation charge, forgiven if you show up on time, was a 'bit much', the service was most attentive, and the food was incredible. There was awesome attention to detail, especially to the look/feel of the appetizers. Margaritas - get them, may use dry ice and 'smoke', so cool. We shared the tasquitoes, a DO NOT MISS, incredibly and elegantly presented with Crema. Dinner, whether the Chicken Tacos or the Chicken Fajitas, was served at once and within 30 seconds of cooking. - very hot and tasty. LOts to bring home. An alternative appetizer for larger parties is the 'made in front of you' tub of guacamole. And unlike our neighbors, please tip the maker with some cash. Their testimony upon inquiry was 'awesome, the best' - so tip him, right? Anyway, a terrific dining experience, the best in Acton. Bland, Bland, Bland How do you make Mexican flood w/ no flavor. Mexican food is suppose to be made w/ chilies, spices and herbs. The first thing that came out was a large disk of a flour tortilla that was cooked dry. It was stale and tasted like matzo! Also, I've had better mole from a can and better enchiladas from Trader Jose. Skip this restaurant and the other "mexican" restaurant (El Huipil) in Acton. The tables were really high. My baby had to stretch her arms to even reach a piece of food on the table. My toddler had to sit on a booster seat and was still not tall enough to have a comfortable eating position. The server was constantly MIA, or helping other tables. Tables that were sat way later than us had their food before we even placed ours. Our water cups were empty most of the meal. We had to keep flagging down the server about our food having missing items and then we still never got said missing items. The food was mediocre, there was no flavor at all. And everyone at the table ended up having a bad experience in the restroom after eating their food. We thought we were going out to a new and nice restaurant for my birthday but ended up being really disappointed in the staff, food, and overall experience there. read more

Right off the bat, we were annoyed by the way too loud music- very difficult to have a conversation. The tortilla and salsa presentation was cute but it was cold, dry, and tasteless. We both ordered fajitas and I asked if I could do steak and shrimp (instead of chicken). I was informed that I would be charged the price for 3 meats- ok fine. What I got was maybe 6 tiny strips of overcooked steak and 4 shrimp. Really?? If I'm paying for the most expensive fajita plate, at least include the equivalent of the 3 meats. They also didn't give us enough tortillas (small) for 2 of us so we asked for more. We were charged $2.50 for 3 additional tortillas. Overall, VERY expensive (almost $100 for 2 meh fajita meals, 1 soda and 1 margarita) and not worth it. Better off elsewhere read more

I went here with my son. Fantastic food and atmosphere. We had a brief wait before a table was ready. The host was very efficient and he was able to remember which party was waiting first, and how many. Our waiter was really responsive, and friendly. We had the guacamole which was made at our table. I had the chicken quesadilla and my son had Campana tacos. Very flavorful, perfect portions and the food tasted very authentic Mexican. My only criticism is the food was a little pricey. Restaurant has a really cool ambience. Staff is friendly. Most of the food has a camera popping look to it. I had the birria tacos and the meat was perfect. The margaritas were very flavorful. They made an error on my wife's meal, which happens sometimes, and the owner was cool enough to give us an extra margarita flight on the house for the mixup and also redid her order without issue.
